Guy Sebastian to try and crack the European Market

In today’s music section of the Sunday Telegraph it says that Guy Sebastian, the first Australian Idol winner, has set his sights on Europe.

Despite a lot of success here, he has never tried to crack the overseas market other then Malaysia, where he was born.

“I’ve always dreamed of having my music played in the UK and throughout Europe, so we’ll see how we go.”

Maybe he has been inspired by another Australian Idol alumni Ricki-Lee Coulter who has had one of her singles taken up by the well known Ministry for Sound.

It will be a busy year for Guy as he is writing songs for his next project which he hopes to have out by the end of this year, as well as starting a national tour to support the release of The Memphis Album.

Dates and locations for his tour can be found on his official website. Guy

You are not correct in stating that other than Malaysia Guy has not had success in any other market(you should research more thoroughly). His first album was successful in The Philippines, Indonesia, Singapore, and New Zealand as well as Malaysia. In fact in New Zealand he actually had 2 singles in their Top 10 at the same time. Angels Brought Me here at #1 and All I Need Is You at #5 in the same week, 25/04/2004. Angels stayed in their Top 50 for 22 weeks. His 1st album Debut at #3 there and was in their Top 50 for 12 weeks. He has had more actual overseas success than any other Australian Idol graduate.

The only reason that success did not continue was because when Sony and Bmg merged they decided not to go ahead with the release of his second or subsequent albums, for some strange reason. He still has many fans in those countries and also in the USA. They visit his Myspace, website and also leave many comments on his youtube clips. His latest album has been released in Indonesia, and there is a push to have it released in the USA as well, given the calibre of the musicians who are his backing band. The Mgs. The songs from the album have been picked up by an online Memphis radio station and are played in constant rotation.

My apologies for not being a Guy Sebastian savant, however I took the story from the Sunday Telegraph music column, and one would hope they would have a measure of accuracy.

Obviously not. I am prepared to check facts from other blogs but I do tend to rely on the fact that newspapers are correct, even ones owned by Rupert Murdoch!

Both Guy and Ricki-Lee are doing brilliantly with their careers. Not surprising considering they are the most talented guy and girl to come out of the Idol show, and have such dedicated fans. Good luck to both of them. :)

Apology accepted reality raver. I can understand you following the newspaper article. But newspapers are notorious for not checking their facts before writing stories. Two quotes spring to mind here.

Jack White from the White Stripes:

“Journalists are inherently the laziest people on earth. Even in the age of Google, they don’t do any work to check what they’re writing about”¦ Any time I pick up a music magazine, I assume 90 per cent of it is incorrect.”

The text of a cable sent by Mark Twain from London to the press in the United States after his obituary had been mistakenly published:

“The reports of my death are greatly exaggerated”

On the other hand my information is thoroughly researched and is 100% correct, including about the people in Memphis who think his latest album should be released overseas.

John Fry, founder of Ardent, a recording studio entwined in the history of Memphis soul music as the famous Stax label itself:

“With the songs and performances I have heard, this should be the record to give Guy the global platform we all think he deserves. This should go over great in the US, UK, and Europe.”

Now hopefully Sony will seriously make the effort this time.

Prins here, I am sorry re not logging on, but quickly passing thru.

The Memphis TOUR (live) is also worthy of purchase. Not only do you get the DVD with the live CD, but Steve Cropper & the boys put in one of the BEST Green Onions I've heard 'em output! Plus LIVE is where Guy should always record (like TMA, all one takes (except 1 track), band in the studio & even an audience of appreciative musos called in by Steve, to see and hear just what he was raving about.

Anyhow, an astonishing pack, & a classic at that.
