So You Think You Can Dance Australia – The Top Ten
I found myself fascinated by Natalie Bassingthwaite’s lips tonight as apparently they have been voted Australia’s hottest lips. Personally I cannot see it, but points for not filling them with collagen ala Lisa Rinna. The dress she was wearing tonight was a bit of a turkey – literally. The feather bouffant bottom that went mid calf was not flattering.
Jason Coleman kindly gave a pep talk to the viewers now that we have the voting power in our hands, and told us to vote for the best dancer, as they will be representing Australia and so on. But hasn’t he just spent the last five weeks talking up Penny whose technique was the weakest in the top 20? Hypocrisy, hypocrisy, hypocrisy.
Also can someoone cue the music like they do at the Oscars once Bonnie Lythgoe gibbers on for to long, so she will know it is time to shut up.
Apart from all that it was a great show, and barely a weak routine or dancer.
Amy and BJ – Hip Hop – Dizzee Rascal feat. Calvin Harris – Dance Wiv Me
Etienne Khoo’s hip hop routine was really fun, and Amy worked it. Has Nacho Pop been permanently sidelined? I was disturbed by the black latex poop catcher pants. I hope they don’t catch on.
All the judges liked it Jason C made a slight criticism that it “looked like a jazz dancer in a hip hop routine.” to Amy.
Loredo and Gianne – Contemporary – Sarah Vaughan – Peter Gunn (Max Sedgley Remix)
Didn’t choreographer Sarah Boulter have a baby last week? As soon as I saw the table I immediately thought of the Sabra and Neil routine in Season 3 SYTYCD. (See it below).
However Sarah’s was brilliant, atheletic and mesmerising. She is a great choreographer.
Has Jason got it in for Loredo this week? As he did not think he went pop. Whereas I thought he did. I find he has more impact on stage for me than BJ.
Charlie and Talia – Quickstep – Mark Ronson Feat. Amy Winehouse
A Jason Gilkison routine usually means you are safe, and I don’t see this one being anything different. Jason Coleman loved it, however he did feel “Talia was more on top of it than Charlie”. Charlie must have wanted to throttle Matt Lee for pointing out to everyone with a replay that he tripped at the beginning of the routine, as I missed it.
Ben and Penny – Jazz – Cast of ‘Two On The Aisle’ – If You Hadn’t, But You Did
The Cameron Mitchell choreography has given Penny a complex character. She was dressed like Roxy Hart from Chicago with a similar story line of killing her lover. Now previously in the show Jason C had a go at Loredo about the lack of steps in his routine therefore having to get into character. There were barely any dancing in it for her a few kicks and twirls. Jason C was critical of her performance.
Bonnie Lythgoe raved about her personality and then criticised her a bit about her pirouettes. If Penny wants to be judged on her personality she should enter Miss World. I think this is Penny’s last stand. Hopefully she won’t drag Ben down with her.
Kat and Timomatic – Samba – The Belle Stars – Iko Iko
Sandro Catalano’s Samba was fun. Timomatic was great, and Kat really seemed to losen up this week. Kat liked her red wig as it made it easier for her to get into character, but I wonder if by not looking like Kat it will lose her points.
Jason thought the dancing clashed with the costumes, which clashed with the music.
Ok if you want to see a Samba that rocks here is Lacey and Danny’s from Season 3 SYTYCD in the US.
Amy and BJ – Contemporary – Beyonce – Halo
Marko Panzic’s routine did not really do it for me as some of the other have done tonight however it was well performed. However it was Jason Coleman’s favourite routine of the night thus far.
I cannot stand the way they ask the dancer’s how they feel about dancing with each other. Seriously are they going to be negative about it and say “I hate it the guys a tool and his/her technique is weak.”
Gianne and Loredo – hip hop – Counting Crows – Mr Jones
I am not sure abot Travers Ross’s choreography, it was a bit music videoish to me. Matt Lee said he did not ‘Get it” and “Loredo went to far with the character.” Loredo grabbed the microphone and said he was told to overact. I got the feeling Loredo thought he was walking the plank tomorrow night and was trying to win some viewers over.
Jason thought “It was not good enough”. He reckons it looked more contemporary, but if Traver’s was dancing the routine it would be more hip hop. Personally I think they got stuck with a crap routine.
Talia and Charlie – Contemporary – Boys Noize – The Battery
Larrisa McGowan from the Australian Dance Theatre choreographed this modernistic routine. It was great. Bring back this choreographer again please. This was Talia’s first contemporary routine since she has been in the top 20. It was sensationally danced by both of them. Jason gushed over both of them, as did the other judges.
Penny and Ben – Foxtrot – Michael Jackson – Rock With You (Frankie Knuckles Remix)
Jason Gilkison was a busy boy this week choreographing a second routine. Penny looked like she was making her debut. This show would be so much weaker without Jason Gilkison’s choreography. Unfortunately this means he cannot be a judge fulltime. Imagine the judging panel if it was Jason Coleman, Kelley Abbey, and Jason Gilkison now that would pop.
It was a beautiful routine will this save Penny?
Kat and Timomatic – Jazz – N.E.R.D – Kill Joy
Does anyone else think the dark haired guy from Project Moda is hot? Gay or straight? Anyway I am not going to let that effect the way I judge this routine… Ok it was kind of cute, but did it pop? Well kind off. It just did not seem as technically difficult as some of the other routines.
It think Loredo and Gianne will be eliminated tomorrow night. Penny got lucky with a Jason Gilkison routine which usually comes with immunity.
