American Idol – Michael Sarver Eliminated

It was no surprise that Michael Sarver was eliminated tonight on American Idol. I know the producers of these shows like to have an ‘amateur’ singer as it is a good story. But most of the time they just don’t cut it. Australian Idol runner-up Luke Dickens is a notable exception.

Anyway as I see this comp it is a three horse race Adam Lambert, Allison Iraheta, and Danny Gokey. I know the judges are talking up Matt Giraud, but he landed in the bottom three tonight, and he just seems a touch bland.

Adam Lambert could start turning off fans if every week he does some trippy performance. Personally I am enjoying his creativity in an otherwise bland season. I know Dlisted thought he looked like KD Lang, but I think he looked like Chris Isaak.

I did think Alison’s performance of Papa Was A Rolling Stone was the best.

Yep – goodbye Michael. Start packing your bags, Scott.

Predicting final three is hard this year. I’m kind of torn with Adam. I thought he was brilliant this week, but I haven’t liked any of his previous performances. That’s not to say that he’s not talented – I just didn’t like where he went with the other numbers. Nor do I get the feeling that he’s a solo record-selling proposition. He’s been successful in theatre and he brings a lot of that to his performances, but he doesn’t seem to have an identity as a singer – too much of a chameleon (again, good for theatre, not good for solo). As much as Megan Joy can be flakey and inconsistent, she’s got her own style.

Still, in a field of bland, Adam does stand out and that will get him to top three, I agree. And even when I don’t like his interpretation, I’m always glued. I hope Alison is there, too. It’s not often I like the really young female singers (they usually sound like singer-impersonators) but this girl’s a natural. I don’t feel the Danny-love, but the judges continue to pimp him out, so I think you’ve got a fairly good chance to see your final three prediction come true!.

How far d’you think Anoop will go?

I am not a fan of Danny’s I don’t think he has commercial potential. Yes he has a good story with his wife dying and he can sing. But he is bland.
Unless Megan Corkery can actually do a good performance she may get up there.

I wonder how stable Allison’s fan base is because she was in the bottom for country night. I enjoy her performances and think she has a lot of stage presence, but she is 16…I am afraid she will do what David Archuleta did last season, mainly picking songs that are similar in style/sound/tempo every week.

Megan has the sparks, is memorable, and fits nicely in today’s market. I agree with you Reality Raver, I think a lot more viewers would be willing to support her if she can sing in tune during the live performances.

I bet Scott is the next to go. He has such credential, but from this clip, perhaps his siblings are the singers of the family and his talent lies more in music composition and at the piano.

I like Adam’s past performances and look forward to seeing what he brings to the show every week. To Injera above, I actually like that he is a chameleon. So far he has done four distinct performances and yet IMO they would all fit on the same album. I think it would be a waste for someone with his versatility to do one ‘strict’ style of singing.
