Masterchef Australia – the Second Season Curse Striking?

Gary Mehigan

The Daily Telegraph had an inganteresting article today which indicated that it is not all champagne and strawberries on the set of the second season Masterchef Australia.

Apparently filming has already started, and one contestant has already quit.

The article states:
One contestant – understood to be a police officer and mother of a young baby – was a leading contender but left because she was only allowed to see her child on Saturdays.

“The baby ended up not recognising the mum,” Confidential was told. “So she quit.”

Also it states judge Gary Mehigan may be having some health problems and was being monitored. Last year he was sidelined because of a heart flutter.

Well, I’m not sure why someone with a young baby would go on Masterchef, or any reality show which requires such a full-on participation. The producers should have said no from the get-go.

Hope Gary’s ok!

Agree with comment above. But I hope there will be no spilling of news from the set as It will be not so interesting to watch when it will on air. I mean… I know now when I’ll be watching the audition of a young police woman (mum) she will go through to the last 20 and then quit. Where’s the surprise here? producers: not spoilers before it even starts please!

Agree with you. Wont say what i originally thought for obvious reasons, but it should not have to be up to the producers.

Skye – another amen to that over here! I can understand this happening in the first season – I’ve read a similar tale in a blog (can’t remember where… ) of a hopeful for the initial run who turned down top 20 when it was revealed that it was a serious lockdown. So, this contestant didn’t do much in the way of research and still signed on for top 20 despite knowing that it included being sequestered.

It’s going to be really interesting to see how the second season shapes up. Will it have the same impact, given the over-exposure of the judging panel since the first season finished? I mean, Matt Preston seems to be in more places than Eddie Everywhere ever was and Gary has managed to keep up with the boys’ weekends and the bad chef business. George is probably the only one who has kept his profile relatively low (although his anti-blogger stance has turned me right off him).

Can’t believe we still have to wait so long to find out!

Injera, what are you referring to re Gary’s boys’ weekends and bad chef business… do tell!

CG – no inside goss, sorry! Just referring to his other shows. The Boys’ Weekend is a program where he and Manu and others scoot off to the country/beach/mountains and cook up a storm whilst bonding). On Good Chef/Bad Chef he cooks delicious looking food with fat whilst a killjoy woman smugly makes less appealing things with tofu.

Injera, thanks for the follow-up. Dratty! I was hoping for some salacious gossip involving Gary and the Im-POH-ster! Guess we’ll just have to wait a little longer until the Tigress of MC shows her true stripes. Grrrrrr.
