Lily Allen To Get Her Own Reality TV Show

Lily Allen has schleped her singing career and is now going to be in a reality TV. The show will be about her trying to become a fashion designer.

This Frisky article quite rightly points out wasn’t reality TV meant to be about unknowns getting their 15 minutes of fame? But more and more it is about people trying to extend or renew their profile.

It is interesting that Sarah Palin is schleping around a reality TV show – this could possibly make her the first reality TV star to become the President of the USA. Also American Idol judge Kara DioGuardi is also trying to get a show made where people who have been dumped by their record label compete to see who will get a second chance. I would probably watch that.

Career dead end? Get yourself a reality show.

I don’t think Lara Bungle’s going to get the opportunity….her profile has been well and truly expanded, though probably not in the way she wanted.

There needs to be a new category for these types of shows (the Tori and Deans, the Kardashians… ) because they are not reality TV as we know and love it. Part of the joy of reality TV is seeing “ordinary” people dealing with the challenges of the show and the unaccustomed pressure of being on camera (okay, so sometimes it’s more schadenfreude than joy!). Celebrities come with their identities already PRd and watching them is more spot-the-spin/look for the crack in the PR facade.

Not good. Not good at all.

Wurstsemmel – My advice to Lara Bingle would be to go overseas for 2 years and get a real job. Not sure I will sign up to watch the Lily Allen reality show.

Injera – I don’t tend to watch many of the famous celeb type shows because I don’t get the pay TV channels unfortunately. I must admit The Hills and The City could be ok.

m: +1 for RuPaul’s Drag Race. I adore that show!

RR – I still haven’t checked out The Hills, but only because I’ve been busy doing far more important things *coughRockofLovecough*. At least The Hills is true nobodies-becoming-celebs which is the reality TV ideal!
