Robbie To Take The Jason Gilkison US Tour Prize

The little dancer that could ... Robbie (right) wins So You Think You Can Dance Australia.

Robbie Kmetoni the 18 year old from Sydney who won Season 3 of So You Think You Can Dance Australia has decided to take the prize of touring in the US with Jason Gilkison’s Burn The Floor.

Robbie, 18 from Allawah NSW, has chosen “Burn the Floor”, saying he “couldn’t resist the idea of travelling overseas and learning from the master himself, Jason Gilkison.

The Australian Dance Theatre would have been a better fit for his contemporary style, but really who could resist going on tour.

He also has won $200,000 in prize money and he is being very lovely to his family.

“I will give more than half to my family and use the other half to go to America to do workshops for about three months. I’d also like to buy a hot car, a Jeep Wrangler I’m thinking…”

A great result for everyone.

Makes sense, he is nowhere near the standard of Australian Dance Theatre.

I wonder if Jessie can take up the ADT prize since Robbie’s turned it down. Ive watched a few packages and Jessie has always said that she’d pick ADT if she won. I’d like to see Ivy in hairspray also.

Im a bit surprised but how do you say no to Jason Gilkinson and a 35 week tour of the US?

Josie: Totally agree.. The Jason G prize is too good to pass up.

Anonymous: Is it just me or are you Robbie’s biggest critic?? I think you’ve said 3 negative things about him and his winning the last few days. No biggie.. you’re allowed your 2c, but it just stands out since I didn’t think Robbie’s dance talent was even questionable.

akris, have I? Sorry, haha. Robbie is definitely talented, for sure. I just think he’s possibly one of the most overrated, most catered to winners. But nowhere near as bad as Joshua from the fourth season of the US version, lol.

Wow everyone must be different as Joshua was one of my favourite dancers in any season of SYTYCD! I still have 3 of his routines recorded from years ago. Glad Robbie won. Sad it’s all over really.

I’m so glad Robbie won 😀

I think the tour with Jason G will be brilliant for Robbie as it will help him build his contact base overseas. He’s already got some connections with ADT through SYTYCD – this will give him the chance to build his networks overseas. I think it will be really great for him as a dancer.

It would also be brilliant for the other dancers to end up working in shows or even ADT. I think they’d have to be stupid not to take Jessie, she’s amazing.

So glad Robbie won though! Will miss our weekly chats, RR family :)

Izobel: Totally agree about Joshua… Him and Katie reminded me of Robbie and Jessie. Didn’t matter who won coz they were both deserving.. although Katie did also win.. which I think they should do in Aus. Top girl and Top guy. I also have a few of their (Joshua and Katie) routines that I still watch regularly. That was one of the best SYTYCD seasons I think.. in terms of dancers and choreography.

Expected Robbie to win – he seemed like a nice sweet kid and was definitely a talented dancer.

The ADT performance was exceptional (for me was way more impressive than the fame or hairspray numbers).

I was a bit disappointed that two girls weren’t in the top as it looked like we might of had a dance number without them looking like call girls.

Totally agree Akris. Yes it was nice that Katie also won. Remember she almost didn’t make top 20! That sexy rhumba they did with Katie in the burgundy dress was my fave dance of any season.

RR: before I forget.. Great photo of Philippe!

Alicat – well make sure you stop by now and again.

Vic – Maybe that is why there were not two girls in the top 2 because they were not going to be looking like hoochies.

Akris – I will have to look up that samba.

Congrats to Robbie! Jessie was the better dancer. But the show’s about finding the favorite dancer, not necessarily the best. I agree that he’s been a bit overrated, but he’s still a great dancer. And deserving. Everyone was for different reasons at that point in the competition.

Not surprised he didn’t pick ADT. You should pick what you feel will best help you achieve your dream. And unless he wants a career with a contemporary dance company (which apparently he doesn’t), it probably wouldn’t have been a great choice. Jessie may have been the only person in the Top 20 that would’ve really benefited from ADT. Since she does want a career with a contemporary dance company.

Robbie probably wants a career a little more in the commercial world and feels like BTF will give him an opportunity to create connections in the US. And even if it doesn’t, it should be a great experience for him. So best of luck to him!
