SPOILER THREAD: MASTERCHEF AUSTRALIA

Regular commenter Airwalk suggested a spoiler thread so people could put what they think are spoilers on it.

Here is a post to put spoilers that you know about Masterchef Australia Season 2.

As a courtesy try not to bring up what you read here on the other blog posts. As some people love spoilers, other people hate them.

Also just because they are spoilers does not mean they are accurate.

A couple that I know that have already been posted on the blog by other people are:
Jimmy was spotted in Newtown with Marion getting out of a black car.

People in the house currently that are on twitter:
Aaron Harvie (not tweeting much)
Jonathan Daddia (not tweeting)
Adam Liaw (not tweeting)
Marion Grasby (not tweeting)

I will put addresses up later but twitter is now over capacity.

Umm from what I got off the old spoiler thread in Masterchef forum, supposedly one of their challenges will involve the Iron Chefs. Whether that is true or not remains to be seen. I LOVE SPOILERS :D

3 Jacqui { 06.15.10 at 7:13 pm }

Don’t have any to share :( but love the thread for those in the know!

4 Anon { 06.15.10 at 8:49 pm }

One of the J’s has been seen out in Sydney by a member of my family. I’ll dig for more info.

5 Reality Raver { 06.15.10 at 10:20 pm }

Anon – they do get days off. As Claire was also sighted at Otto with her family (that was in the paper).

6 CG { 06.16.10 at 12:29 am }

KC: wasn’t the Iron Man link already covered when Adam and Aaron did the challenge “in the round” ?

As mentioned in another post, Jimmy, Skye and Peter are quite active on Twitter which suggests that if there is a “return” contestant in the final weeks, it is not one of them!

RR: if Clare was at Otto that suggests she is still in Sydney and still in the comp.

7 saffronlie { 06.16.10 at 12:56 am }

A friend of a friend knows Jimmy, and he went back into the house recently. Not sure why — do they make all the contestants return to the house when they have to return for the finale? Otherwise I guess he got brought back as a wild card.

8 Fides { 06.16.10 at 1:22 am }

Jimmy’s last twitter was May 9th. It’s really looking like he nabbed the wild card.

9 Fides { 06.16.10 at 1:24 am }

And thank you so much for creating this thread Raver! I love my spoilers too, and am annoyed at very strict stance the MC forums have now taken with spoilers.

10 Airwalk { 06.16.10 at 10:52 am }

Thanks for the thread…I have nothing will share but agree with the above…looks like Jimmy is back in

11 CG { 06.16.10 at 12:07 pm }

Agree, theory re Jimmy seems sound…I didn’t realise his last Twitter was from May. It will be a shame if Jimmy gets back in but not Courtney (Spearmint Girl). Perhaps the producers are going for ethnic diversity over talent (again).

Spotted Matthew at Cargo Bar on the weekend… Must be a break in between when filming ended and the finale?

13 reality raver { 06.16.10 at 12:22 pm }

Just saw Sharnee being followed by a camera crew through Paddy’s Markets……….ONLY JOKING.

14 reality raver { 06.16.10 at 12:23 pm }

Helen – Matthew cannot still be on the show… can he?

15 MolksTVTalk { 06.16.10 at 12:24 pm }

Twitterers I know of:
Jimmy – @jimmy_mastchef
Richard – @richard_gunner
Skye – @wildsugar_skye
Peter – @PeteKrita

Jimmy’s gone dark because he’s back in. ;)

16 Fides { 06.16.10 at 12:32 pm }

Matthew’s a Sydney (north shore) boy, so he could just be out and about ie no longer on the show. He also did a shopping centre appearance with Dom, also from north shore, last week. So I’m hoping it means he’s been eliminated.

My local paper gives updates on the north shore lads – Jono is another.

Raver – my heart skipped a beat reading the first part of your Sharnee comment. Too funny!

17 smauge { 06.16.10 at 1:23 pm }

Richard – @richard_gunner
Who’s Richard?

18 Helen { 06.16.10 at 1:23 pm }

yeah, Matthew went to school with friends little brother. I know almost for a fact that he’s no longer in…

19 Helen { 06.16.10 at 1:24 pm }

PS. Helen – @helenlovesfood

20 Fides { 06.16.10 at 1:33 pm }

Smauge – Richard Gunner – he was the butcher/farmer right, who nearly made top 24? Wish they’d given Sarah’s spot to him – he seemed like a pretty decent cook and a nice guy.

Helen – do you know what Matthew is up to now? I imagine he’s no longer accounting…

21 smauge { 06.16.10 at 1:35 pm }

I have no memory of him but thanks Fides

22 Helen { 06.16.10 at 4:13 pm }

Sort of, I cant reveal what I know, but it certainly doesn’t match up with winning Masterchef!

23 Betty { 06.16.10 at 5:37 pm }

Anon might be right. I just read an article were John says he hasn’t slept a home since he was married. Article dated 28th May?

24 smauge { 06.16.10 at 7:17 pm }

got a link for that Betty?

25 Betty { 06.17.10 at 2:59 am }

I can’t find the link (i think you have to be a subscriber to get into their site?) but it was in The Jewish News, Friday 28th May 2010.
As an aside it mentions he had eaten bacon before but never roasted pork. And, he worked for free every Saturday at Gordon Ramsay’s Petruse for 3 months and they offered him a job however he went back to Oz instead. So clarification of some previous discussions about him i guess?

26 OdieWan { 06.17.10 at 3:20 pm }
27 Reality Raver { 06.17.10 at 3:25 pm }

Odiewan – just posted on it, I don’t know who it would be but I can only guess it is either Matthew or Jono, as they are the two that live in that area. There will be fear and loathing if jonathan goes before matthew.

28 skye { 06.17.10 at 3:38 pm }

I reckon it’s Matthew.

29 CG { 06.17.10 at 4:04 pm }

How amateur! Good thing they are doing the finale live. Agree it must be someone from the North Shore which rules out Claire, Marion… but without looking at the Ch10 MC site I don’t know where the others are from. Funny, by his demeanour I thought Jono was from Melbourne. Ha! Have picked up my husband’s bias to Sydney. I was born overseas so don’t have a dog in the race, between Melbourne and Sydney that is. If I had to guess across the group, without this leak, I thought Matt or Alvin would be going tonight.

30 Airwalk { 06.17.10 at 4:24 pm }

I think it must be Matt-shame as thing weaker cooks on red team but think he is the weakest os blue…wonder if he is working now if it is him. Liking Jon now even without fluff on his face so hope its not him…

31 Airwalk { 06.17.10 at 4:45 pm }

Jon’s ife has been busy while he has been competing in MC, started a company called Savvy Brides http://sugarloveweddings.blogspot.com/2010/04/meet-savvy-bride-masterchef.html

32 Bee { 06.17.10 at 4:55 pm }

Thinking it’s Matthew – damn there goes my pick for winner.

@Fides – I know for sure Matthew left EY, so presume he’s no longer accounting.

33 Fides { 06.17.10 at 5:46 pm }

Just checked my letterbox to see if they delivered tomorrow’s North Shore Times early… no luck I’m afraid.

Channel 10′s ad last night would have me believe it would be either Jono or one of the girls (being the show’s favourites) but with this news that it is one of the north shore boys, I expect it to be Matthew. If it’s Jono, I imagine he’d get a wild card back in.

Thanks Bee for that info re Matthew.

39 Tim { 06.17.10 at 6:26 pm }

Jono’s family have been busy on his online ‘to win’ page over the last two days which doesn’t make much sense if he’s out tonight, does it? Anyone found one for Matthew?

40 Fides { 06.17.10 at 7:13 pm }

Raver, I didn’t know that about Jojo. The local paper has never mentioned her at all. Do you think I should go my nearest Zalm hairdressing salon and ask for a lucky plait?

41 TwitterCheck { 06.17.10 at 7:36 pm }

Someone on twitter has the paper and says it’s Jono.

46 Fides { 06.17.10 at 11:17 pm }

47 Airwalk { 06.17.10 at 11:26 pm }

It was the only info I found on Jo…that she used to work at hairdressers and as I am in WA would love to know if she is back there doing admin and the occasional plait?

48 Fides { 06.17.10 at 11:29 pm }

Maybe I should go for real and check it out! I’m actually quite tempted to bring a photo from the MC website of Jo with plait, tell them that I saw this on TV and really love it, and can they please do this for me… but then I’d have to walk around with hair like a 4 year old.

Not really a spolier but some interesting info about the MasterChef kitchen (Alexandria in Sydney) can be found in the DA application to Sydney City Council. Go to council website, Development applications, D 2009 285 A

Approval valid to Aug 2011. Junior MasterChef and a Season 3 planned for location. Restaurant section removed for Season 2

TIM you posted “Jono’s family have been busy on his online ‘to win’ page over the last two days which doesn’t make much sense if he’s out tonight, does it? Anyone found one for Matthew?”

What is this “win page” – can you post a link?

Ta.

51 Tim { 06.18.10 at 6:16 am }

@CG
I have noticed his family posting on other support pages too, though these were done earlier in the show. I am assuming they are family members going by Jono and his wifes last names. Those two seem to be trying out for celebrity couple status, they seem to be giving a few interviews/promoting their business at the moment.
Anyway the one i mentioned is on facebook, just type in masterchef in search. I found ones for Marion, Callum and Joanne too however can’t see any comments from people with the same last name in them – i haven’t read all of them though, someone else can do that :-)

52 Fides { 06.21.10 at 11:43 am }

Someone on Adam’s facebook support page says they saw him in Adelaide yesterday. If it’s true, then unless it’s a break from filming, or they’ve finished filming before the finale already, he must have been eliminated.

53 littlepetal { 06.21.10 at 12:32 pm }

Jono was seen during the weekend at the Entrance Farmers Market supporting Jake who has a stall there. Maybe they are back home before they continue filming the last few episodes.

54 Fides { 06.21.10 at 1:15 pm }

Oh I really hope so!

55 Maladroit { 06.22.10 at 8:45 am }

All i can say is. John goes, Clare goes, Marion Goes, Joanne goes, callum goes, and alvin goes :)

Enjoy :)

56 Fides { 06.22.10 at 1:21 pm }

Will Jimmy be brought back next week? My TV guide says that for next Sunday night’s episode, the remaining 7 contestants are in for another surprise…

57 crabtech { 06.23.10 at 1:43 am }

After MC1 makers said that the next finals for MC were going to be live as they had been concerned that they would not be able to keep the results a secret (in the Age Green Guide). So can only assume that will take a long break in order to have finals (final week) live because the Melbourne shows were filmed in February and they were in London for the Logies.
So they must be in break now waiting for the show to reach finals time.
For what it’s worth spotted Peter walking near the law courts in Melbourne during lunch time.

58 Fides { 06.24.10 at 1:36 am }

According to the MC forums, which have a strict no spoiler policy but somehow this slipped through – Jono is eliminated tomorrow night. I’m really hoping it is not true.

Apparently, earlier in the season, Jo’s family/ supporters mentioned how far she went – it could be as high as top 3 but I don’t see how that is possible for them to know that so many weeks ago. I’ve never seen those posts so don’t really know what they’re talking about. Those posts have been deleted, but there are people on Jono’s forum who read the original posts and are resigned to the fact that he leaves tomorrow.

I’m hoping it’s just mischief makers at work, because I cannot see how Jo could beat Jono in a cookoff.

59 littlepetal { 06.24.10 at 9:40 am }

I have also read that Joanne got to Top 4. His cousin has said that on Facebook.

60 Maz { 06.24.10 at 10:33 am }

It probably is Jono that goes tonight as the article in the smh said Jo was ‘oblivious’ to the social media commentary. She wouldn’t be oblivious if she was out of the house.

http://www.smh.com.au/entertainment/tv-and-radio/fan-ban-threat-over-masterchef-hate-campaign-20100622-ysv6.html

61 Ellie (Almost Bourdain) { 06.24.10 at 11:16 am }

I don’t want to see Jono leaves tonight but I have a feeling he is leaving soon because he has registered a Twitter account and started following a whole lot of food bloggers and foodies last week. He hasn’t tweeted but I can’t stop feeling the act is to prepare him for his exit.

62 Bee { 06.24.10 at 11:48 am }

Smart thinking Ellie. I too have read that Jo makes Top 4, but don’t remember where. I think it will be Jono gone tonight, which is a shame

63 littlepetal { 06.24.10 at 1:02 pm }

This Sunday night episode mentioned about a major twist. Thus whoever got eliminated tonight may be brought back.

At the moment the remaining contestants are back home. No filming at the moment as I have seen George watching football in South Africa. Joanne should be home as well as someone mentioned that they saw her working in her salon.

We can’t tell who is still in or out.

64 CG { 06.24.10 at 2:56 pm }

I hope we see the last of Jojo tonight and Jonno stays in but consensus of all the spoilers seems to suggest JoJo is in until near the end.

That said, filming would surely be done by now – except for the finale – so seeing Jonno setting up on Twitter, etc. just last week is not much of a spoiler and could in fact suggest he stays in until the end?

65 Ellie (Almost Bourdain) { 06.24.10 at 5:19 pm }

My logic about Jono setting up his Twitter account last week signals his exit was based on the fact he doesn’t need the extra publicity if he is in the final. If he was in fact not in the final and plans to start his French bistro, he will need all these foodie connections and publicity.

66 CG { 06.24.10 at 8:16 pm }

Ellie – good theory! I suppose the other explanation is that he has time on his hands waiting for the finale!

67 Nicole { 06.24.10 at 10:25 pm }

Adam and Callum were together in Adelaide a few days ago. Does this mean anything?! lol. I wouldn’t have thought those two would just hang out if they got eliminated, but hmm >____<

68 littlepetal { 06.25.10 at 6:28 pm }

I have three names for the Top 4 but not sure they are true or not.

69 Nicole { 06.25.10 at 6:57 pm }

@littlepetal share?

70 Open Post: Masterchef Australia – Masterclass | reality ravings { 06.25.10 at 8:25 pm }

[...] for those who want to check out the spoiler thread go here, but don’t discuss what you read there on any other blog post [...]

71 airwalk { 06.25.10 at 10:26 pm }

And littlepetal where did you get the info? (and yes please names …) :)

72 littlepetal { 06.25.10 at 10:47 pm }

Alright, I have read it in Facebook. Marion, Alvin, ready for the shock……. Joanne and no name for the 4th one. Doesn’t mean it’s true. Joanne being in the Top 4 has been circulating around for a long time.

Jonathan was seen with Jake at the Entrance Farmers Market last Sat. Picture to proof on Facebook but doesn’t mean he is out of the competition.

73 Nicole { 06.25.10 at 11:27 pm }

Oh yes, I’ve seen that on Facebook as well.
I don’t know, I find it a little hard to believe… Joanne if she comes back would make sense, but surely Jonathan and/or Claire are better than her in sheer ability. I’m disappointed, I really want Callum to be there :(

74 littlepetal { 06.26.10 at 12:09 am }

As we know the judging is not very fair. They should have a new panel of judges where they just rate each plate without knowing who cook what.

75 Fides { 06.26.10 at 12:46 am }

I don’t see how Joanne can come back. She has not proven herself to be brilliant by any stretch of the imagination…but silly me, I’m thinking this is a cooking show. I’m still hoping that those facebook people are just messing with everyone.
The top 3/4 comments about Joanne on the MC forums were apparently made very early in the series, and considering filming has only recently wrapped up, it doesn’t make sense that someone would know that so long ago. Jono’s twitter activity could suggest he makes it right to the end as well.

76 Airwalk { 06.26.10 at 3:54 am }

I thought (for some reason) Jimmy is the one that comes back-not that he can cook for &*%$…final 4 I think should be Marion, Claire, Jonno and Claire…but its not about the best cook is it? Thanks littlepetal..do you have the facebook link?

77 littlepetal { 06.26.10 at 12:40 pm }

Airwalk – Sorry can’t remember which one . Just go to Facebook and search for Joanne Zalm. Few pages will come up. Be warned that you will read some nasty and inappropriate remarks about her.

78 CG { 06.26.10 at 7:38 pm }

Another story/rumour doing the rounds on Facebook is that CLAIRE pulls herself from the competition. She is such a stress cadet it wouldn’t surprise me but I am not buying the rumour. My guess is that Sunday’s show is a cookoff between the contestants with 3-4 previously-eliminated contestants coming back – and two eliminations on the night – meaning 1-2 previously-eliminated contestants could get back in. Winning this way, it isn’t a popularity contest but rather a cook-off. But question is (and this is pure specualtion), how do they determine which ones to bring back for the cookoff? The most recently-eliminated ones? The “fan favourites”?, or the ones who were eliminated under shady circumstances (e.g. Courtney)? Has there been any sitings of Courtney at all?

79 Nicole { 06.26.10 at 10:43 pm }

CG, I agree with you about Claire, it wouldn’t be surprising, haha.
Eliminated contestants coming back is hardly fair… then again the show isn’t about that is it :l Sooo what do you guys think about Callum? D’you think he’s going to go soon?

80 littlepetal { 06.27.10 at 10:44 am }

The rumour now is the remaining 7 contestants may be the judges for the dishes cooked by some eliminated contestants and to bring them back into the competition. Will it be blind judging or if they know whose dishes they are judging, do they judge fairly or do they bring back ‘not so competent’ cooks?

81 Fides { 06.27.10 at 1:18 pm }

Oh that would be interesting! It would be wise for them to pick the worst dish…it would explain one trick Jimmy’s return.

82 CG { 06.27.10 at 3:35 pm }

Interestingly, the descrip for tonight (Sunday’s) show in the paper TV guide is the contestants “…commitment is tested”. This could support the Claire bowing-out theory?

I still think the ultimate winner is about their marketability. Claire is so morose that she would never work as an MC brand ambassador. Of the group that is left (before any previously-eliminated contestants are brought back in) Marion is obviously a good fit and would get them into a different demographic, as would Adam. But for me there is something I really don’t like about Adam and I’m not sure what it is. Callum would be great if he were just a few years old, a litte more mature, and his skin cleared up but as is, he doesn’t work.

Jimmy, if he comes back in, would be an interesting choice given Australia’s diplomatic problems with the Indian community in recent months.

83 littlepetal { 06.27.10 at 4:20 pm }

CG – agree with you regarding Callum. He would have been great if he is a few years older and more mature. He is still learning at the moment and not an excellent cook yet. I don’t mind Adam but his cooking has too much Japanese influence at the moment. Do we want another Tetsuya? Jimmy is o.k but only good at Indian cuisine.

84 Fides { 06.27.10 at 4:37 pm }

Maybe their commitment is tested b/c they think they’re nearing the end and the judges spring it on them that there are weeks more to go? Last year there were 6 in the final week – so at this stage as Top 7, maybe they’re thinking it’s a week to go before the finals.

But if only Jimmy comes back, it doesn’t extend it by that much. Unless there are less than 6 in the final week, but if it follows last year’s format where you lose 1 per night in final week, you’d need 6 to make the right numbers. Course it could be totally different this year, who knows?

85 Reality Raver { 06.27.10 at 4:56 pm }

Fides – cracked up about putting the worse dish back in but pretending it was the best. If that is the case it has to be a blind tasting.

It looks like it is going to be a great episode tonight.

86 AnonyMousse { 06.27.10 at 8:44 pm }

Well, now we know for sure (unless they do a SECOND round of bring-backs) that Joanne can’t be coming back and therefore can’t be in the top four. It does show how unreliable these sort of spoiler rumours can be, though.

87 littlepetal { 06.27.10 at 9:48 pm }

AnonyMousse – Hope so but I still can’t breathe a sigh of relief yet. Does the judging is correct.

88 CG { 06.27.10 at 10:16 pm }

Jimmy dodged a bullet with his hollandaise sauce tonight…and previews show him cooking up a load of curries (again) and what looks like parantha tomorrow night….so rumours he sticks around for a while could be true. There has been no news on Courtney since she exited so I am hoping she gets back in as of all the eliminations hers was the least deserved.

89 Fides { 06.27.10 at 11:21 pm }

I hope it’s Courtney and Devon, along with Jimmy making up the three.

littlepetal, I’d say you can breathe a sigh of relief…

90 Fides { 06.28.10 at 12:57 pm }

Dunno if it’s really a spoiler, but looking at the coming episodes for this week and next Sunday, it seems rather anti-climactic. All the HUUUUGE challenges have already been done and what’s to come is seriously underwhelming.

Wed team challenge = arvo tea bake off for the Country Women’s Association : maybe they can try Donna H’s icing tips.

Sun invention test = home style cooking with Margaret Fulton as guest judge … nothing against the good lady, but I have one of her cookbooks from the 80s and I’ve only ever made one thing from it. Very uninspiring.

91 pollywaffle { 06.28.10 at 2:03 pm }

This season of MC is bringing back memories of the good old days when C10 Friday night movie was often stuffed up by putting the reels on in the wrong order.

92 MolksTVTalk { 06.29.10 at 12:26 am }

My prediction, now we’re back to 10 & both Aaron & Claire are having the sulks: Claire walks, Joanne is invited back in.

Maybe way off, but it’s a great rumour none-the-less…

93 Fides { 06.29.10 at 1:44 am }

Love it Molks! It should just be a revolving door of walking and returning contestants and just keep it at Top 10 for as long as possible.

94 littlepetal { 06.29.10 at 7:25 pm }

Molks, there could be some truth in it!!! Woman’s Day just push the happy family factor for Joanne. Lovely kids and husband-how not to like her???? Maybe she is coming back to Masterchef !!!!

95 CG { 06.29.10 at 10:02 pm }

Peter must not last long in the top 10. He showed up on Twitter after he was eliminated the first time. Since then the longest break between Twitters is June 12-17 – less than five days. And he has been back with regular daily or every-other-day tweets since the 17th. See PeteKrita on Twitter.

96 AT { 06.30.10 at 12:22 am }

CG – ditto. i’ve noticed this as well so it’s likely that he got eliminated this Thursday or sometime next week at the latest given how long it takes to film the episodes and the current eps most likely filmed around mid May?

97 Aussiegal { 06.30.10 at 12:29 am }

Could you pls share Jonathon’s twitte id n the rest of them too? Thanks

98 Reality Raver { 06.30.10 at 9:35 pm }

From Crikey: SPOILER! MasterChef fans may want to look away now… An anonymous tipster tells Crikey the final two for the phenomenally popular Channel Ten cooking show will include current favourite Marion Grasby. The other finalist is unknown.

A producer who I follow on Twitter has said she has stopped working on Masterchef, so this would indicate they are down to the pointy end of the competition.
I had also heard they will keep a top three so people won’t be able to confirm the top 2.

99 littlepetal { 06.30.10 at 10:31 pm }

This is no surprise isn’t it? Will the other in the top 3 be Alvin, Jonathan or Adam?

100 Jamlace { 06.30.10 at 11:58 pm }

No Courtney in Womens Wkly ?? Only photoshoot of Julie Claire and Marion – pretty much spoilt it for me – I was so happy Courtney was back…………….

102 Nicole { 07.01.10 at 9:14 am }

Why would Joanne come back? When given the opportunity with everyone else she didn’t, so I doubt she would suddenly come back.

I think it’s pretty clear Marion is going to win.

Jimmy was/is off Twitter. He came on after he was eliminated the first time and then disappeared. The theory he went back in to the comp was right. He has not come back on which could suggest Aaron is eliminated tonight and Jimmy stays in a little longer or right thru to the end?

104 littlepetal { 07.01.10 at 1:24 pm }

CG-I hope not !!!! Jimmy can only cook curries and nothing else.

105 Fides { 07.01.10 at 2:52 pm }

CG – I’m convincing myself is that Jimmy goes early, but he is embarrassed so has been avoiding twitter. Though Aaron’s time is surely due, I wouldn’t want one of the original 7 to be knocked out straightaway by the returnees.

106 Nicole { 07.02.10 at 11:35 pm }

littlepetal, I totally agree with you… sure he’s GREAT at them, but he doesn’t exactly have a diverse range that he can cook.

Friends of mine saw Jonathan leaving a house in the North Shore over the weekend.

108 Fides { 07.04.10 at 12:27 pm }

Jono lives on the North Shore, in Lane Cove. I wonder if he makes the final 2/3, given Marion’s predicting him to be the winner.

109 Anon { 07.04.10 at 5:50 pm }

Fides – i don’t know where it puts him on the timeline but they’ve seen him a few times over the past 2 weeks.

110 littlepetal { 07.04.10 at 8:25 pm }

Filming has finished for a while. George has been to South Africa to watch the world cup. I think all the remaining contestants (Top 3, I think) have gone home. Thus seeing Jono at home can’t tell us anything.

111 Anon { 07.04.10 at 9:13 pm }

He goes back into the house on Monday, along with the other remaining contestants.
Rumour has it that behind the scenes media training has been on the agenda to help some of them get on better with the Oz public in case they win…

112 Anon { 07.04.10 at 9:48 pm }

Also, noone was thrilled about the return of other contestants mainly because they had more to compete against again. They all knew it was happening though.
JD has moved near the water now, no not Bondi, but keep an eye out if you’re in the East.

113 littlepetal { 07.04.10 at 10:07 pm }

Anon- Are you saying the JD is one of the Final 3? I really think JD deserves to be in the Final 3.

114 CG { 07.05.10 at 12:34 pm }

didn’t some previews of the Army Camp challenge give away who survives tonight’s elimination challenge…I thought I saw Marion in the clips, meaning she is not eliminated tonight.

115 Fides { 07.05.10 at 2:12 pm }

I’m sure it’s Pete who goes. As mentioned upthread, the twitter timeline tells all! Returnees came back May 11th (found that out somehow, don’t quite remember how), Pete’s back on twitter May 26th. One week of TV takes close to two weeks to shoot, so he’ll definitely be gone by the end of this week. Hoping against hope it’s Aaron tonight though, given he put Pete in the elimination – twitter’s no help in working out the timing of his elimination.

116 littlepetal { 07.05.10 at 2:48 pm }

Aaron should be going soon. Both Aaron and Peter are not good with dessert.

117 Reality Raver { 07.05.10 at 5:54 pm }

TV Week and Channel Ten have given the game away with who does not get eliminated as there are photos of Alvin and Marion in army gear in this week’s obligatory article on Masterchef

118 Airwalk { 07.05.10 at 5:59 pm }

oops :) Great…hope for Aaron to go. Peters no great cook but he does smile and stays positive.

119 Anon { 07.05.10 at 6:08 pm }

Not sure if he is in the final 3, sorry. Though i guess timewise it’s looking likely. He’s very, very, very confident, he has the right attitude for a stereotypical image of a Chef…
Also, he and his wife are enjoying their new celeb status, they are loving being stopped for photos and autographs.

Does this mean that the blue team loses again in tonight challenge and Jonathan survives the elimination challenge again. BTW I have read this article ages ago and whether the Final 8 refer to the Final 8 before the return of the 3 eliminated contestants.

125 Reality Raver { 07.07.10 at 11:30 am }

sam and little petal I am not sure, but could mean either. But seriously is it really Jono’s time to go yet? Aaron surely has to be next?

Jimmy, Courtney and Alvin were seen getting out of the black Hyundai i-van about 31/2 weeks ago. surprise, surprise Jimmy was shopping in an Indian spice store. yawn. surely a one trick pony has to exit this comp soon. over-rated.

128 Fides { 07.07.10 at 11:52 pm }

3 1/2 weeks ago…would that mean those three make it to the final week, given filming up until the finale ended a few weeks ago? I’d be so disappointed if Jimmy makes it through at the expense of any of the others. He should have gone on the coq au vin.

And Adam has just resurfaced on twitter.

129 CG { 07.08.10 at 2:52 am }

Yes Adam resurfaced tonight on twitter with a very strange one-word tweet: “masterchef”. If the finale is live than he cannot be giving away the ending. I reckon he got drunk, watched Wednesday night’s episode, got all emotional again about giving up the immunity pin vs. looking like a traitor..started typing a Tweet and then his good friend Alvin stopped him?? Or being a lawyer, he realised that by tweeing he’d be breaking his contract so stopped himself (altho that didn’t stop fellow solicitor Peter)??? Whaddya reckon???

130 Fides { 07.08.10 at 2:22 pm }

That was a cryptic tweet wasn’t it! I reckon he gets eliminated next week so doesn’t make the final week. He’ll be kicking himself if he watches tonight’s challenge and sees he would have done OK…

131 Reality Raver { 07.08.10 at 3:10 pm }

CG and Fides – disagree I reckon he was drunk and teasing.

132 littlepetal { 07.08.10 at 6:50 pm }

Oh NO!!!! I read something from the Adelaide Magazine that as of July 1, Callum is still in the competition. Can’t see what the judges see in him. He is not Masterchef calibre yet. Maybe in a few more years.

133 Anon { 07.08.10 at 7:20 pm }

Unless i am being lied to – always a possibility i guess – JD went back into the house on Monday so i guess that means he’ll survive the next elimination round or if he doesn’t then he gets back in at a later time?

Who said Marion is one of the Top 3 ???? So sad to see Marion being eliminated.

136 Anon { 07.08.10 at 11:38 pm }

There is a rumour going around that he was offered a job by one of the guest chefs very early on in the show which doesn’t do much for people thinking the show is rigged i guess.
They are certainly editing him differently now plus the positive press pieces/quotes from him which have been appearing all over the place at the moment.

137 Fides { 07.08.10 at 11:39 pm }

littlepetal – perhaps the article means July 1 when we would watch it on TV, not July 1 when it is being filmed ( ie eps we would be watching at the end of July). Does that make any sense?

138 littlepetal { 07.08.10 at 11:42 pm }

Fides – it make sense but…… with Marion gone, I believe they are trying to get Callum to the finishing line.

“Insider’s tip: Aaron signed a deal (many weeks ago) for his own show called “Rock’nRoll Chef” so there’s no way they can get rid of him. It’s rigged to keep him in at any expense until the end at least… That’s why Marion’s gone. I know someone who works on the show and that is the truth y’all!”

143 CG { 07.10.10 at 3:14 pm }

RocknRoll Chef. Hmm. What channel? I can believe it. Time will tell if this is true and then we can all go back and analyse the elimination sequence and circumstances. If there is such spin-offs and product ranges from Jimmy, Marion, etc. then I think MC will jump the shark sooner rather than later and will be doomed to maximum of 3 seasons.

144 littlepetal { 07.10.10 at 9:27 pm }

Just took a closer look at the preview for Sunday and I could see Claire has won the Mystery Box challenge and doesn’t have to do the Invention Test (7 Deadly Sins). She is safe from elimination.

145 Fides { 07.10.10 at 11:21 pm }

Thanks littlepetal! I remember seeing Jono, Aaron, Adam and Jimmy cooking for the main challenge but not who was exempt. Claire’s really finding some form at the right time. That will be a great mystery box to win, but the theme of the challenge is intriguing.

Not the most exciting spoiler in the world…. The lovely Maggie Beer will be a judge on the episode screening July 21st. She says in her “Food Club” newsletter “It goes without saying that my lips are sealed on the results”.

151 hine { 07.12.10 at 6:26 am }

Tonights challenge: Guest chef Christine Manfield has the most technically difficult dish seen so far in a pressure test – spice-roasted squab with a turnip cake. The ingredients list alone tops 75 items.

152 hine { 07.12.10 at 6:34 am }

Found this on the Vogue Entertaining forum: anyone know if its true?
‘in the sunday mail today they did an article about the final week. for iron chef fans, hiroyuki sakai will be on. and that there will be 4 eliminations, and zumbo is back with a layered vanilla cake, and maggie beer is back to judge an invention test where they have to prepare a 3 course meal they would want in their cook book. that’s all i can remember at the moment, but it looks like an awesome week’

153 Reality Raver { 07.12.10 at 10:37 am }

Hine – I have two Christine Manfield cookbooks and I open look at the list of ingredients require, have an anxiety attack shut it and then pick up the Donna Hay or Bill Grainger. LOL.
Last week is going to awesome.

154 Fides { 07.12.10 at 11:10 am }

Can’t wait to see Maggie again. She’ll be the perfect judge for the cookbook episode … I want more than Donna welling up just because Julie did, and criticising Chris’s brown on brown.

As far as spoilers go, couldn’t see who goes tonight in previews of Wednesday night’s episode (Raver, it happened a lot last year – almost every week – I used to spoil myself watching it on slo-mo, so this year has comparatively been much better) but as Jacques Reymond is one of the judges, I’m thinking Jono must make it through because if it is like last year, they pick judges who suit the contestants’ styles. I don’t think Jono could beat Justine if that is Jacques’ benchmark.

155 Reality Raver { 07.12.10 at 2:10 pm }

In the Taste section of the Adelaide Advertiser yesterday is a story about Callum and his girlfriend Chloe having dinner at Andre Ursini’s new restaurant last week along with a photo of Callum and Andre. As I am fairly sure that the contestants remain holed up in the Masterchef House in Sydney while they remain in the show, I am assuming that Callum did not make it to the end.

That is unless the show is over and they are just waiting to film the final.

FROM THE TASTE SECTION
It was a meeting of two vintages of MasterChef finalists last week, when this years young aspirant Callum Hann visited the new city restaurant opened by Andre Ursini, a competitor on last years show. Callum was having dinner with his girlfriend Chloe.

He’s says seeing Andre’s Cucina and Polenta bar was inspiring because he hopes to use his Masterchef experience to open his own restaurant. Look out for a review of Andre’s bar in taste next week.

Also Adam Liaw started following me on twitter so I am hoping that does not mean HE has been eliminated. But he is not tweeting, but nor is Jimmy.

156 Fides { 07.12.10 at 3:20 pm }

I thought that filming ended and whoever Top 2 or 3 are get to go home before the final on July 25th. It would be a dull few weeks if they aren’t. There were sightings all over the place of contestants like Jono, Callum and Adam towards the end of June. All I do know is that the Army episode was filmed on Sunday 30th May (courtesy of the alarm clock they showed), so it would follow that the final week would have been shot towards end of June, then they those still playing get released…

I had such high hopes for the finals but the TV guide for next Sunday has me grimacing already “the final 6 are challenged to catch and cook a crustacean”.

157 littlepetal { 07.12.10 at 3:25 pm }

RR- I have read this about Callum being seen at Andre’s reastaurant but that was like end of June. According to an earlier poster, the remaining contestants went back on the 5 July. Thus Callum could still be in.

158 hine { 07.12.10 at 5:43 pm }

What do you make of this? Would it be because they are all the same(contracted?) anyone read the article?
Jonathan of Canberra Posted at 1:56 PM Today

You may or may not be aware but this week’s Woman’s Day has given the winner away, inadvertently, it seems. Check out the article on Claire and see what you can make of it? Many are suggesting she’s won the competition from the blurb in Woman’s Day on “only attending official contractual engagements”. I don’t think that’s the case, but it is a revealing comment.

159 Fides { 07.13.10 at 12:59 am }

But the finale hasn’t even taken place yet has it, so unless it is all a farce (hmmm, suspect it is) the winner hasn’t even been determined. I do suspect she is in the final three, but then again, the assumption this time last week was the F3 was Jono, Marion and Claire.

Zumbo’s comment about Adam or Jimmy taking out the prize is interesting though, if it is true he set a pressure test challenge in the final week. As it would have already been done, and I reckon Zumbo’s comments would have been made only recently (probably since the macaron craze) – would that mean those two make it a long way yet? Mind you, my speculating based on anything other than twitter timelines has been woeful!

160 littlepetal { 07.13.10 at 12:30 pm }

Fides-I think in the Final Week there will be one elimination every night (from Mon to Thurs, from 6 contestants to Final 2). Monday night challenge is to create Zumbo 8 layered vanilla cake. You can guessed that Adam and Jimmy must have done well here for him to think both of them can be the winner.

161 Reality Raver { 07.13.10 at 12:48 pm }

Ok this one is bollocks but I am reporting it in – conversation I had on the train this morning with a man in a dodgy overcoat (ok a friend)…

Friend: Marion is going to win Masterchef.

RR: Duh she was eliminated last thursday

Friend: No no she comes back in I have it from a good source.

RR – Rolls eyes.

Also the other thing I heard media people gossiping that top 2 were Claire and Aaron….

Can see Claire going top two now, but Aaron???

162 Fides { 07.13.10 at 1:44 pm }

Raver : Maybe like a phoenix reborn, Marion has imparted her skills to Aaron as he rose from the ashes of the satay sauce…(they didn’t show us that bit last Thursday because it would freaked out the little ones). So if Maaron wins, I’ll be happy. That would be a world first Mexithailican pasta range : Mexican spicy and Thai red curry pasta sauces. Tom Yum ravioli. Claire’s got no answer to that.

littlepetal – so is Zumbo pressure test on the Monday? From memory, last year Zumbo came with only 4 left – I think it was the Wednesday night after poor Julia and Lucas had already been shown the door and Poh had ALL NIGHT to familiarise herself with that awful recipe. If Jimmy is there at the start of next week, that would be sort of OK (but not really), but if he’s there towards middle or the end, it really wouldn’t seem right.

So Jono reckons it’s between Adam and Alvin as who he’d pick to win… interesting.

163 littlepetal { 07.13.10 at 3:48 pm }

Fides – Yes, Zumbo challenge is on Monday night and one will be eliminated. We will know that it is not Adam or Jimmy or just the opposite?

When Marion was eliminated, she said Jonathan will win and Jono got eliminated. When she said that on Fri, Jono would have be eliminated in real time (but not shown yet) and surely Marion would know that Jono got eliminated after her. Thus still no conclusion as who are the Final 2.

164 Fides { 07.13.10 at 4:05 pm }

Littlepetal : oh I see what you mean! Maybe everyone has to deliberately nominate someone they know can’t be in a position to win, lest it be too big a spoiler. So it’s red herrings all around! I wonder how Jimmy will cope with a Zumbo cake – yesterday he showed he didn’t even know what lining and greasing a tin meant – Adam and Callum had to explain that to him.

165 Anonymous { 07.13.10 at 7:05 pm }

What are your thoughts on this – on yesterday’s news (on smh) Alvin, Jono, Matthew and Courtney were at the charity event on the weekend? So it could have meant Jono was already out of the comp and was able to attend this event… althought the published articule mention they were the part of the top 8 (exc Matthew)… it got me thinking if they had Matthew (out) and now Jono (out) at this event – could this mean all the eliminate contestants attended this – thus Alvin and Courtney is next up? i.e. they are allowed to be out of the MC house and is able to attend this charity function? why aren’t all the MC contestants at this function and only those few? Hmm….

Isn’t it obvious that Callum is the flavour of the month. He doesn’t even know what he wants-one moment he want to be a pastry chef and then he want to Mark Best. He just go with the flow.

171 reality raver { 07.15.10 at 5:52 pm }

Apparently someone spotted on the preview for tonight that Aaron and Alvin are cooking off meaning Jimmy is safe.

172 littlepetal { 07.15.10 at 6:01 pm }

Not a surprise here as Adriano Zumbo said in the paper he thinks Jimmy or Adam can win. Jimmy must be there on Mon to bake the 8 layers vanilla cake.

Aaron has a video clip on the Daily Telegraph’s website. Last week it was Marion and she is gone. Thus Aaron may be going.

173 Fides { 07.15.10 at 6:11 pm }

Even if Jimmy makes it through tonight, I cannot see how Jimmy could bake eight layers of a cake and impress Zumbo. Baking cakes is not Adam’s forte either, but he’s smart as a whip and if it is something near impossible facing all the competitors, my money would be on Adam to make it through.

174 AQQ { 07.15.10 at 10:42 pm }

In womans day, after the article on maroons departure, there’s a little section on “who will win”, and coincidentally the two contestants eliminated after Marion, ( johnno and Aaron) were deemed as having low chances of winning after Marions departure. Mhmmm.. Does this mean the two deemed having a medium chance ( Alvin, and callum) will be eliminated next .?

175 guess who { 07.16.10 at 10:26 pm }

I have read that they have already filmed the Finale cook off and only the announcement of the winner will be live.

Someone said Matt Moran told someone when they met him at the airport last Mon.

178 CG { 07.18.10 at 10:45 am }

Makes sense cooking part of finale has already been filmed because we know / have been told many times that it takes hours to film cooking and hours to get thru the tasting…

179 Fides { 07.18.10 at 5:20 pm }

But if the verdict will be filmed around 2 hours before it is telecast, it can’t exactly be called “live” can it. I understand it all has to be edited, but it would be fun watching it as a truly “live” event.I’m picturing live studio crosses to family/friends of the finalists but could be a bit too much like Idol. At least they won’t be announcing the winner from the Opera House steps…

180 Liberty { 07.18.10 at 5:55 pm }

I’m sure there are many people in the “know” as to who the final two are. There’s big money and ratings points on the line which is why everyone involved has to sign confidentiality agreements.
Any attempt at a “real live finale” would be near impossible because of all the creative editing that takes place. Does anyone know how long it took to film last years’ final episode? I’m sure in one of Julie’s post win interviews there was mention of a 14-16 hour filming day.

181 Fontana { 07.18.10 at 7:03 pm }
182 Reality Raver { 07.18.10 at 8:33 pm }

Little Petal – why do I never bump into Matt Moran at the airport.

I heard they were keeping the final three together until the big day so noone could identify who was in the final three.

183 littlepetal { 07.18.10 at 9:57 pm }

I just hope the Final 3 are Adam, Claire and Alvin but I know I will be disappointed. Callum will be there !!!

184 Fides { 07.18.10 at 11:22 pm }

MC no longer shows their heads, but I’ve just realised I can just about recognise the final 6 by their forearms and hands, so here is my “forearms” spoiler based tonight’s previews! For Tues night – it looks like you can see Courtney, definitely Claire’s hands. For Thursday’s GG challenge, I’m certain they show Adam’s forearms making the entree (quite distinctive as they look just like my brother-in-law’s), someone who is very fair (so I’m thinking it’s Claire) doing mains. The dessert forearms are much harder – I can’t tell yet, but will be watching closely tomorrow night to work it out. It is someone who has faint blotchy scars on their forearms – positive it is not Alvin though (he’s got the smoothest forearms ever).

And I must just add that Aaron had the most beautiful surgeon/pianist fingers.

185 Reality Raver { 07.18.10 at 11:28 pm }

Fides – too funny I rewound the preview of the next few episodes to see if I could pick anyone. I think your analysis on this issue is way ahead of anything I could say. But I did think they were Claire’s hands.

186 littlepetal { 07.18.10 at 11:32 pm }

Fides-Callum doing dessert for GG?? I can see a chocolate fondant on the plate and Callum is good at using MasterClass ideas.

187 Fides { 07.18.10 at 11:46 pm }

Littlepetal – yes I thought it would Callum the dessert king too – but Callum is actually quite fair like Claire, these were darker (course it could be the lighting). Can’t imagine it would be Jimmy making a chocolate fondant… but actually, didn’t Jimmy help Gary make fondants in masterclass? Ahhhhhh – I hope I can spot little scars on Callum’s arms tomorrow, – I’d rather it he him than Jimmy.

188 kugel { 07.19.10 at 6:41 am }

Had a close look — yep sure it’s Callum’s arms.

190 Fides { 07.19.10 at 9:15 am }

Thanks kugel! Did you agree about the others? Does that mean we have our final three?!

If Zumbo’s praise of Jimmy is to be believed, and if they are Courtney’s forearms shown on the Tuesday’s ep, (they’re slightly tanned and very lean) Alvin will go tonight.

191 kugel { 07.19.10 at 9:36 am }

Oh sorry Fides. Yes agreed about the others. The first (entree I think) is definitely Adam and the next Claire.

The person with the disaster cake (which is tonight) appears to be Alvin so I guess he will go next.

I think Courtney will go next (cookbook concept) and then Jimmy.

The person shaking while serving the GG is probably Callum, poor thing, leaving the final two as the genius and the perfectionist.

And best of luck to them.

192 Fides { 07.19.10 at 10:01 am }

Thanks kugel. That would be the most worthy final two. I’d say genius would have the edge, especially for an invention test.

193 kugel { 07.19.10 at 10:11 am }

Agree Fides, the most worthy for the final two and the genius has the creative and technical edge over the perfectionist.

194 Fides { 07.19.10 at 10:41 am }

And I’ve just realised they’re both lawyers… interesting!

Genius has been getting the best edit. He was positively bursting with joy when Sakai walked in, is always smiling and just getting so much screentime – helps that he is the most telegenic of all MC contestants (take that Poh!). Perfectionist did a Clayton’s (not Utz) quibble last night ie the quibble you have when you’re not having a quibble. But she’s been performing well the past few weeks too.

So although the winner is officially unknown, I’m sure it has been determined and the producers are painting him in the best light… oh I could be so wrong, and it could all just be wishful thinking on my part!

195 littlepetal { 07.19.10 at 11:39 am }

But didn’t someone said the final 2 is Adam and Callum?

196 kugel { 07.19.10 at 11:49 am }

Fides yes lovely that they showcased the genius last night — smart and gentle! Yes and makes you wonder why theyare showcasing him now; previously he didn’t get much attention.

LP: Not sure who the final two are but pretty sure about the final three. My mentioning a final two is only a guess.

197 Fides { 07.19.10 at 12:07 pm }

Littlepetal – yes, no idea about F2, just running wild with kugel’s theory! Could well be Callum if he pulls off luscious fondants. How could an impressive dessert not be a winner? Claire looks like she’s doing lamb racks which could go either way. In fact, the entree tart thing could be the one that is the least impressive, but not of course, in a genius’s hands.

Kugel, what would you call Callum then?

198 kugel { 07.19.10 at 12:28 pm }

Fides, what would I call Callum? Hmmm, give me a bit of time.

He’s very sweet and is over willing to please and learn.

Perfectionist yes I think it’s lamb rack and fava beans, and think the entree belongs to the genius.

199 littlepetal { 07.19.10 at 12:30 pm }

Callum is the fumbler

200 kugel { 07.19.10 at 12:32 pm }

I think that’s possibly right LP. Sure it’s not Adam, could possibly be Claire, but most likely Callum

201 Fides { 07.19.10 at 1:05 pm }

Nice one littlepetal! He certainly has dropped the ball on a few occasions – bit of a butterfingers. But if he can pull off the difficult individual challenges over the next few days, I suppose I can’t begrudge him that place in the F2.

kugel – lol your description of Callum sounds very much like a little labrador/goldie puppy. And he gets that sheepish puppydog look when he’s caught out doing the wrong thing.

202 kugel { 07.19.10 at 1:36 pm }

Fides I think you have it: the Labrador puppy

Feel bad that Callum is getting a hard time by posters on the MC site: I certainly couldn’t cook like him at 20 nor could I make macarons like him. If he is in the F2, the puppy should run around, exhaust himself, then settle in for a long sleep while the posters rage.

203 CG { 07.19.10 at 6:47 pm }

You guys are hilarious! When they were showing the previews of this week’s shows, I too thought about how we might be able to identify people by their hands and arms. I was too tired to go back and look at the video in slo-mo. Fantastic!

I was hoping that Claire would go tonight based on the preview and her little to-the-camera moaning but we’ve seen it all before haven’t we! If Callum is in the final 3 – never mind final 2 – it is simply a joke.

Of the lot that is left, I’d be least pissed if Adam won. The fact he is well-spoken, smart and scandal-free makes him a relatively safe bet. His Asian cooking style also provides a distinct contrast to Julie’s homecooking from MC1. I cannot see Claire winning under any circumstances she is just too beige, miserable and up herself and, as has been discussed, enveloped in a scandal (whether the details are accurate or not).

204 Chris { 07.19.10 at 9:47 pm }

A friend of mine is a producer at Chanel 10: Masterchef Season Final has just been taped and the winner is totally not what anyone will expect!!!!!

A small hint…. its a wild card :)

205 Tarrin { 07.19.10 at 9:56 pm }

Im sure you’ve all just watched tonights episode.
Jimmy is our family friend and had been for years. I don’t necessarily talk to him ( I’m his cousins best friend) but I have got a leaked bit of info which is straight from a contestants mouth.

Basically the competition is finished, Jimmy is home and is in the middle of writing his book. My best friend has talked to him asking who has won, and she gets one of those seedy smiles from him that we see a lot of on tv.
This obviously implies he wins. Bit disappointed.
I thought Adam had the most flair and talent.
But anyway, massive spoiler. Tomorrows show is very controversial since Jimmy chooses ingredients suited to his curry habits.
It enrages me that he doesn’t take risks and step out of hos comfort zone.

206 littlepetal { 07.19.10 at 10:13 pm }

Chris-what do you mean a wild card? Is it like a eliminated contestant?

207 kugel { 07.19.10 at 10:16 pm }

LP: wild card would be one of the judges — like the one who wins the pressure test on Friday night…(!!)

No I think Chris means Jimmy, Callum or Courtney…? Right Chris?

208 littlepetal { 07.19.10 at 10:32 pm }

Oh my god!!! They really want to create a controversy to generate publicity !!!

209 kugel { 07.19.10 at 10:37 pm }

Cool it Little Pee . Rumors could circulate to put us off the scent. However, Matt P did tweet “New season almost over. We’ve seen largely better food. A few shock eliminations again but that’s the nature of food & pressure”.

Look closely in slow mo at the GG challenge — you’ll see the final 3.

210 Liberty { 07.19.10 at 10:41 pm }
211 kugel { 07.19.10 at 10:43 pm }

yes, she should be pleased with top 4

212 littlepetal { 07.19.10 at 10:46 pm }

I really hope you guys are right with the Final 3 !!!!

213 kugel { 07.19.10 at 10:50 pm }

Little Pee: look in slo mo at the GG challenge (viewed as a preview after last night’s challenge) and look at the arms and torsos of who is serving, and tell us what you think.

214 Fides { 07.19.10 at 11:11 pm }

If it were another massive twist (which I doubt), I would boycott the final. And I believe Matt’s tweet about how the finale has not been completely filmed. Some select few may know who has won, but I don’t think the contestants do, or most the crew. That’s why they wanted the semi-live finale, to prevent these spoilers.

So I’m sticking to the genius inventor, the perfectionist and the puppy (love it kugel – he was giving good puppy tonight with his oops my cake is upsidedown face) to cook up a storm in the GGs kitchen. I’ll be devastated if the genius is not there and it is the curry king’s hands I’m being fooled by.

215 kugel { 07.19.10 at 11:18 pm }

With you all the way Fides. The genius is definitely in the top 3 — had another look.

BTW genius inventor is also a child prodigy — look at his profile on the MC site.

Think we may need to provide some padding for the puppy this week — poor pup is getting a hiding from the posters in the forums.

How do we revitalize a battered puppy?

216 Fides { 07.19.10 at 11:33 pm }

Yes – think Adam’s was one of the first bios I looked up back when top 24 were announced. I am so impressed with his scholastic achievements, but what I liked best was his Q and A section from MC website is that what he thinks he’ll learn about the show is whether this industry is right for him/ one he wants to pursue… love his attitude – no grand pretensions there.

Poor puppy must come good tomorrow night I think, but given it’s going to be spicy ingredients, I don’t see how he will excel. Our pup doesn’t like it spicy…or maybe he is secretly a genius puppy?

217 littlepetal { 07.19.10 at 11:42 pm }

kugel-I did have a look at the preview. The entree is prepared by someone with a hairy arm !!! and I am not as good as you and fides in identifying whose arms or torso.

218 Fides { 07.20.10 at 12:12 am }

littlepetal – Adam has pretty hairy forearms – also they’re quite broad and “pudgy”, and his fingers are quite dark. Jimmy has leaner, fairer, hairy arms, with longer fingers. Courtney has smooth, slightly tanned, lean arms with prominent bony wrists. Claire has very fair, spindly arms and horribly mottled hands (they always freak me out). Callum’s would be the forearms/hands I could not pick out of a lineup…

And having just typed that, I know I’ve been watching far too much Masterchef!

219 KhunDel { 07.20.10 at 12:20 am }

Cooking for GG – entree is definitely Adam – has a small burn btw knuckle and middle joint of his index finger on right hand. Main course is definitely Claire as you can see her reflection in the background – can see a white chefs hat and long red curls. Now for dessert, I have looked and looked and think it is Callum however not 100% sure.

220 Chuck { 07.20.10 at 12:22 am }

Looking at the promo/preview at the end of Sunday’s show in slomo, it looks to me that the hands are Adam for the entree, either Jimmy or Courtney (doesn’t look like Callum’s arm) for the mains(someone like Claire’s curly locks with chef’s hat is seen in the background, head coming up from under bench or oven) and last shot of what must be Claire putting finishing touch to desserts.

221 anon { 07.20.10 at 12:35 am }

JEsus,

a wild card to win. There ‘s only one and that’s Jimmy. if so, it must be a political move, to improve Indian-aSUtralian relations.

Must check to see if the GG is entertaining any Indian Diplomats …

222 Anonymous { 07.20.10 at 12:41 am }

Great thread-221 postings:is this a record RR?
If it is Jimmy-I agree it will make Julie look like a Michelin star chef. And Alvin would be a great Poh alternative-great humour and personality and an ok cook.(I like Pohs show on occasions and sad to see Alvin go but glad he is back with his partner and bed) Thanks to Chris and Jimmy cuzs friend above. Keep the spoilers coming :)

223 AQQ { 07.20.10 at 12:43 am }

I reckon top 3 is going to be Adam, Claire and Jimmy/ Courtney.

224 littlepetal { 07.20.10 at 12:45 am }

We are back to square one as all 5 have been rumoured to be in the Top 3!!!! Adam is the sure bet at the moment.

225 Chuck { 07.20.10 at 12:49 am }

KhunDel: You could be right about Claire’s reflection but the arm looks to me to be a bit thicker than Claire’s. Guess we’ll know for sure at the end of Wed night.

226 AnonyMousse { 07.20.10 at 12:57 am }

This is turning into less of a spoilers thread, and more of a random guess/pick-names-out-of-a-hat thread.

227 Fides { 07.20.10 at 1:09 am }

Thanks KhunDel re the burn on Adam’s hand!

Yes that shot of Claire’s face leaning over is baffles me. I thought it was her arm because it is quite fair (the hands are covered with gloves so can’t tell if they’re purple) but it wouldn’t work to do have your arm like that to spoon something on the plate, yet bend below the plate of food at the same time (just rewatched, mystery arm and Claire’s head are in the same shot – not possible to be Claire’s arm then). But the dessert arm does not look like Claire’s – to me that arm is too dark and masculine to be the dainty Claire. lol it probably is hers!

Guess we’ll know for sure on Wednesday … or maybe I’ll need to see everyone’s (except Adam’s) arms positioned in the same angles as the .05 seconds we see from Sunday’s promos and reassess! Should I rewatch tonight’s challenge is slomo?

228 Fides { 07.20.10 at 1:25 am }

Nup, giving up on the these forearms. Too confused now! But we do know it is unmistakably Adam, and Claire is there too. It’s number three yet to be determined – haha, maybe it is Jono!

229 CG { 07.20.10 at 2:14 am }

Hang on, guys what show preview do you see Claire in the background? Are some of these observations based on Friday’s G&G masterclass show?? If so, isn’t it the case that all 24 – or most of them – come back for this episode. So any outtakes from Friday’s show are irrelevant.

Hee hee – if Ch10 is reading this thread they will be madly taking down videos or putting up red herrings.

230 CG { 07.20.10 at 3:21 am }

OK, had a look for myself. At the GovGen challenge – yes – you can see Claire in background leaning under the table. So Claire makes it through to top 3. As for the two sets of arms. I can’t tell. But both look masculine to me and neither look at big or dark as Jimmy’s arms/hands. So my guess based on the preview video is that the top 3 are: Claire, Adam and Callum.

231 Pinto { 07.20.10 at 7:57 am }

Love the forearm analysis. If we think about the 84 eps plus 30 minutes of musings and analysis for each ep. the most conclusive comment I can make here is that we have spent days of our lives watching this show. What will we all do on the 26th?

232 Reality Raver { 07.20.10 at 10:12 am }

Anonymous – a possible thread record I think, but the MC final thread last year was pretty long.

Anonymousse – #226 – LMAO

Pinto – Not sure what we are going to do, but I will be doing a Masterchef wrapup next week, about the pros and cons of the season

233 CG { 07.20.10 at 11:31 am }

RR has reported via Twitter that Woman’s Day is running photos of Claire’s manfriend…and suggesting perhaps they are now engaegd. If this is the case, is this a clue that Claire could be the winner and her rehabilitation is underway? Otherwise, unless she is an attention and media whore, why would you continue to expose yourself and family to the trash publications? I haven’t seen the mag: are the photos staged or papparazzi type shots? If posed, then Claire is a willing participant!

234 Liberty { 07.20.10 at 12:03 pm }

CG – Not necessarily. Prior to Jimmy and Peter’s first elimination(s) and Marion and Carrie’s eliminations, there were “feature” stories in the mags in the week they went. I was using it as a predictor for a while there. You’d see the story on the Monday and by Thursday that person would be gone. Has anyone else noticed that?

235 CG { 07.20.10 at 12:18 pm }

Liberty: but why bring her man-friend into the public at this stage given earlier attempts to disguise his identity? A feature on Claire, sure. But surely her contract with Ch10 does not require her to roll out her manfriend…and why would she want to do that…unless it is part of a rehabilitation strategy? Of course, Forum5 (Fremantle’s inhouse “talent development” agency) or other advisors may be telling her she needs the rehabilitation whether she wins or not if she is going to try and launch a public/food/media career.

236 Reality Raver { 07.20.10 at 12:21 pm }

CG – Claire and Trevor were papped not a studio job.

237 CG { 07.20.10 at 1:06 pm }

RR: thanks! in that case, Claire is not the winner! she must go out on the GG (GovGen) challenge.

238 pluck a duck { 07.20.10 at 1:44 pm }

kugel (at 215) – in answer to your question, how do you revitalize a battered puppy? You give it a treat (like $100k and a book deal) and that will perk it up and have it licking you again.

239 Fides { 07.20.10 at 2:19 pm }

Sorry CG – I don’t get understand. How can you know from what Raver says Claire goes out on GG challenge?

240 CG { 07.20.10 at 2:34 pm }

Fides – You are right! No logic to my assertion! Hahaha. It only worked one way: if the piece in Woman’s Day was staged then it might help make case Claire is winner and starting her rehab tour and bringing her lover out of closet. But RR said she was papped and the reverse of this theory doesn’t hold. There is no spoiler evidence – as far as I know – of who gets past the GovGen challenge!

241 Fides { 07.20.10 at 4:18 pm }

CG – you’re gold -love it! I was staring at Raver’s comment and the discussion around #236 thinking : I must learn to read between the lines… the answer is here if I open my mind…

And Raver, I must thank you and tell you that your blog and these nightly musings have easily been the highlight of MC Season 2 for me. C10 should thank you – I think you singlehandedly keep those ratings up! I know if not for this blog and all the comments, I’d have lost interest many weeks ago. This has been like a big group therapy session which I’ve needed to get me through those hours and hours…what were those stats again?

242 Fides { 07.20.10 at 4:23 pm }

And RR you should have a new poll – why do you watch MC? With the options a) for the food b) it’s just entertainment c) for RR’s blog .

243 Abhi Jayawera { 07.20.10 at 5:15 pm }

I have a friend of Jimmy that was at his house party when jimmy arrived home from masterchef on last sunday, apparantly he couldnt stop smiling and my friend who knows him very well immediatley suspected that he was the winner of masterchef.
He also said he wont talk to any of his friends until the final episode to not reveal the outcome of the final but he did say that since that day on he would have a lot of work to do.

244 PaZzoCANe { 07.20.10 at 5:21 pm }

According to my dads friends at work they also somehow found out that Jimmy had supposedly ‘won’ Masterchef:S
Sucks cause i really favoured Adam to win.

245 Reality Raver { 07.20.10 at 6:03 pm }

Personally I think the Jimmy to win is bollocks

246 kugel { 07.20.10 at 6:13 pm }

Fides: we all know that the answer to your poll @243 is C, so no need for the poll!
RR: why do you think the Jimmy to win is bollocks?

247 Nicole { 07.20.10 at 6:22 pm }

THE FINALE IS LIVE? HOW CAN JIMMY HAVE WON LOLZ? D:

248 kugel { 07.20.10 at 7:23 pm }

Lol Nicole — exactly!

249 Anonymous { 07.20.10 at 7:30 pm }

Isn’t the live sunday only to anniunce the winner-they have filmed it all so definately know the final 2 at least?

250 CG { 07.20.10 at 7:38 pm }

I wonder if the posters coming here and bombarding us with spoilers that Jimmy has won also have something to do with the curryhouse fire bombings in Surry Hills?!

I’m actually taking the producers word for it on this one: that the finale is live. It may be rigged and pre-determined..but I think the announcement is live so as to prevent leaks just as they say.

If there is any truth in the spoilers posted her re Jimmy in the last few days – ie that he has come home with a smile on his face and not saying anything. The most I would read into that is that he is in the top 2 which is possible. Although as stated above, I didn’t think the 2 sets of male forearms and hands shown in the GovGen preview are Jimmy’s.

251 CG { 07.20.10 at 7:43 pm }

Hang on!!

If the spoilers about Jimmy’s homecoming party have any truth in them then is it more likely that he is in fact eliminated before the top 2 finale?

Now the family might have a small homecoming for a contestants in the top 2 when the come home for a break before the finale BUT a larger homecoming party involving friends and cousins, etc. COULD suggest this was the homecoming party filmed on elimination??

252 Reality Raver { 07.20.10 at 7:56 pm }

CG- Good point about homecoming party.

And apologies if I am wrong I just think whenever I read I am a friend/sister/ lover etc of someone my bullshit antennae starts twitching.

253 Reality Raver { 07.20.10 at 7:57 pm }

Just read on twitter that Courtney goes over a less then impressive brulee

254 AnonyMousse { 07.20.10 at 7:59 pm }

According to the rumours the cooking part of the finale may have already been filmed, but the actual filming of the winning decision supposedly won’t be until the day or near the day it airs. So at best I could accept that Jimmy’s in the final two and maybe cooked so well in the final challenge that he THINKS he’s won, but I can’t accept that he actually KNOWS at this stage.

255 pluck a duck { 07.20.10 at 8:11 pm }

Yep, I second the motion for three cheers to RR – your blog has made the shenanigans of MC almost bearable.

256 Tarrin { 07.20.10 at 8:31 pm }

Jimmy wins against Adam in the final 2.
Jimmy cooks a chicken curry, while adam risks and cooks a medium sized crockenbouche (what Jimmy failed to do a week ago)

It turns out decent, but according to my cousin, he’s very confident that he’s won. Of course the result has not been revealed since they announce it live, but Jimmy is verrrry confident.

Hopefully they don’t base their decision on that one dish. Adam needs to win, just to write that ANNOYING smile off Jimmys face. Stop being so proud of yourself mate. You’re a wildcard.

Does anyone remember when George asked Jimmy if he still wanted to be I’m the competition?
HE HESITATED AND DIDN’T EVEN SAY YES! They surely can’t let someone with that attitude win.

257 Chris { 07.20.10 at 9:37 pm }

Hi all…

Well i did say it was a wild card that wins the show… and with Courtney now gone, who does that leave???

:)

258 littlepetal { 07.20.10 at 9:54 pm }

I thought in the Finale you have to cook at least 2 or 3 dishes. Really can’t imagine how Jimmy can win. Adam has good techniques and can cook different kind of food whereas Jimmy is only good in curry (maybe with some baking if he can study the recipe for the whole night !!)

259 kugel { 07.20.10 at 10:11 pm }

Tarrin: Jimmy didn’t say he didn’t want to be in the comp.but wasn’t sure he could win it.
LittleP: He’s also highly competitive, so who knows…?

260 AnonyMousse { 07.20.10 at 10:35 pm }

It never fails – get near the end of a show, and people will swear black and blue that their cousin’s mother’s hairstylist let them onto the secret of what happened in the final moments. I don’t really buy it anymore, to be honest. Maybe you’re all telling the truth about what your father’s dog’s nephew’s half-sister told you, but for now I’ll operate on the presumption that if a ‘friend-of-a-friend’ told you, then you’re shovelling more BS than most cattle farms. No offense intended.

261 lydia { 07.20.10 at 10:44 pm }

I think Claire is in the final two. Froze the promo MC played of the final and saw her curls sneak into a frame or two.

262 kugel { 07.20.10 at 10:58 pm }

Lydia: yes, still going on Fides and my original tip from last night (and all the other help we received from others working this out)

263 Reality Raver { 07.20.10 at 11:28 pm }

By the way thanks for the nice comments about the blog, as at them moment with masterchef I feel like I am in a marathon and have just hit the pain barrier.

264 littlepetal { 07.20.10 at 11:30 pm }

So now we have the Final 2 between Adam and Callum or Adam and Jimmy or Claire and Adam or Jimmy and Claire?? You guys are so funny and I am at a lost as who the Final 2 are.

265 kugel { 07.20.10 at 11:38 pm }

RR: intelligent comments from you and heaps of fun. Thanks.

LP: One or two of us are right.

266 Fides { 07.20.10 at 11:41 pm }

kugel # 246 – lol I want Raver to do the poll so MC producers will have to see how disgruntled we all are and why we actually watch! But they wouldn’t care why we watch anyway – as long as we watch.

I agree it is BS about Jimmy winning this – he is getting a terrible edit. That self satisfied smirk they repeatedly show… now they wouldn’t always need to show it would they? But they do. So now he is the villain and villains will never win this thing.

And whoever said they attended Jimmy’s homecoming party that was last Sunday, do you mean like just one week ago? That doesn’t make sense. I know Callum and Adam have been spotted in Adelaide since the end of June. I assume that is when filming finished up until the live finale. Of course I am also assuming that one of those two are in the final 2, therefore they would be filming for just as long as Jimmy (if he is the second finalist), so why would Jimmy have only come home from MC a week ago? Nup, timeline all wrong. Sorry!

267 kugel { 07.20.10 at 11:47 pm }

Ok fides. Good reason to do the poll. The best aspect of the show? The editing.

Still working on our original theory.

Need more than an apparent smirk from jimmy for apparent evidence. As would the lawyers…

268 littlepetal { 07.20.10 at 11:50 pm }

Fides- Regarding timelines, Zumbo said the V8 cake episode was filmed 2 weeks ago which made it around the first few days of July.

They must have filmed the Final week in July as George is still in South Africa for the World Cup.

I think seeing Adam and Callum together at the end of June must be the break after they got to the Final 6.

269 PaZzoCAne { 07.20.10 at 11:59 pm }

I hope the jimmy rumours are fake, he is becoming masterchefs camera whore, sick of seeing his cocky smirks and i think the judges are sick of having diareaha from his endless curry collection.

As for the marion judging rumour…..would be nice but dont think so mate!

270 AnonyMousse { 07.21.10 at 12:12 am }

Comment 267 – Imposter! (That post wasn’t from me)

271 kugel { 07.21.10 at 12:16 am }

271: “apparantly [sic] she lost out [?] in an Australian theme cookoff [sic]…meaning??

Qualify please.

272 Reality Raver { 07.21.10 at 12:24 am }

AnonyMousse – no it does not appear to be you, and has posted under another posters name. Trying to rectify the matter.

273 Reality Raver { 07.21.10 at 12:27 am }

Kugel – I think they were being tongue in cheek, perhaps, b/c everyone is going on about the curry issue. Though I could be wrong.

274 Fides { 07.21.10 at 12:57 am }

Thanks littlepetal! Didn’t know that the final week was filmed quite so recently. So fake timeline theory doesn’t work. But then what does that mean about the letters the contestants received from their loved ones that they seemingly hadn’t seen in months. Hmmmm.

Yes kugel, sticking to the original theory seems best. In fact, all these new spoiler theories flooding this site are probably from people who know we know the truth and are trying to derail it!

Ah remember when Jojo’s fafo were running around saying she was in the final 4…

275 CG { 07.21.10 at 4:00 am }

On Alvin’s new website/blog (www.cinnamonpig.com.au) there is a comment from Skye Craig…it seems legit at least in tone and content…and she says “see you Saturday”. So while it is entirely possible that parts of the cooking have been pre-filmed, all indications are that at least the final announcement of the winner will be live (or just a few hours before air time).

RR: What is the deal with imposters? I think there have been some on the current blog threads as well that are using other users names and/or setting people up via “anonymous” comments. Can you require an email and no anonymous comments and/or track IP numbers because it is getting really annoying.

276 kugel { 07.21.10 at 7:27 am }

Fides, CG and RR: thanks, the imposters are just trying to derail us as you write, Fides. That’s fine. Makes one wonder why though. Sorry RR — just didn’t understand 271 post.

Skye and Alvin are best friends according to Alvin — maybe they are spending the weekend together, back for the filming of the final.

277 CG { 07.21.10 at 7:49 am }

Skye said see you “Saturday” to Alvin…which implies the Friday Masterclass where all of the top 24 are supposed to re-unite was filmed sometime prior. I suppose they could have filmed it at any time after they got down to the final 2.

Speaking of the reunion, I wonder if all 24 will come back or like last year 1-2 bitter ones will be no shows (if I recall Sandra from last year didn’t show). If Carrie is in Europe she probably won’t be there and she was probably the one who suffered the greatest embarassment during the series.

Fides-I was wrong with the timeline but I got the right timeline now. Zumbo either lied or gave wrong information.

Tomorrow episode was filmed on the 29 June but when did they film the Final 2 cook off ? Adam and Callum were seen end of June or early July.

http://diamond-valley-leader.whereilive.com.au/news/story/royal-toast-to-the-volunteers/
(Sorry, do not know how to highlight this)

281 Fides { 07.21.10 at 2:12 pm }

Nice find littlepetal! So the lamb is good… can Adam’s smoked trout tartlet beat it?

Yeah I don’t get it either – Adam was supposedly spotted in Rundle Mall June 20th. Maybe just a lookalike fan who’s emulating his hero? LOL, C10 sending out decoys? Don’t know about the Callum sightings.

282 littlepetal { 07.21.10 at 2:29 pm }

Callum was seen with his girlfriend at the opening of Andre restaurant which was also end of June!! As of 29 June, we know Callum is still in the competition. Very confused and not knowing who the Final 2 are is killing me!!!

283 Fides { 07.21.10 at 4:28 pm }

I know the feeling LP! But I’m not actually wanting Adam to win – he can come 2nd or 3rd, though I’d prefer him not to be outcooked by Jimmy. We’ll know in a few hours if Jimmy makes it through and whether those persistent rumours by his fafo can finally be torched. If he doesn’t make it to GGs, then I do reckon it’s Adam and Callum in F2. Callum can take the prize. Claire in a finale when so much is on the line would be just too exasperating to watch.

284 CG { 07.21.10 at 5:08 pm }

Great find, Little Petal. The more you think about it, there are quite a few people out there who know the top 3! Did MC put the heroic SES volunteers under a confidentiality agreement in exchange for free wine and a night at Yarralumla?

Quite the dichotomy going on at this event: Reality TV + the money-grubbing MC producers and sponsors+ three not so great “amatcha chefs” + the Australian monarch + hardworking, selfless SES volunteers and bushfire victims! Good to hear the GG recognised the absurdity of the scene and made a comment that the SES volunteers were the heroes. I just hope the dinner wasn’t ruined with all the production takes, etc. that would have gone on.

Absorbing all of the spoiler input of the last few days, I’m going to go out on a limb (ha!) and suggest Callum is ejected tonight. It is always going to be hard for a 20-year old to have enough life’s experience to have a repertoire or “theme” for a cookbook.

This would leave Claire, Adam and Jimmy for the GG challenge which is plausible given the arm/hand/hair observations.

Then again, smoked trout tartlettes would seem right up Callum’s alley given he has finally mastered short crust pastry (well on a good night, anyway)!! And Callum is most aligned to Ch10′s demographic – although MC is clearly an opportunity for them to extend their demographic reach, not just reinforce it.

I guess we’ll all find out in a few hours!!

285 kugel { 07.21.10 at 5:19 pm }

CG Fides and Lp thanks for all these posts.

Interesting that the article didn’t mention the dessert. I had another look at the dessert and it’s very elegant — I don’t think Jimmy could do this. It’s precision and sophistication smacks of the best of Callum’s desserts and I may have egg on my face (or short crust pastry) after 8.30 tonight, but I’m absolutely certain that the smoked trout entree is Adam’s (it’s his arm for sure) and the dessert is Callum’s.

Less certain is the lamb, but I think she’ll do well tonight for MB.

286 littlepetal { 07.21.10 at 5:20 pm }

Jimmy was at the Masterclass when Gary did the Chocolate Fondant. Don’t you think that will be what Jimmy will do at the GG dinner when he doesn’t have much skills with dessert.

At the Final Week I think it is appalling that they can’t create something new but just reproducing what they learnt at Masterclass. The more I think of it, the more I think the dessert at GG is Jimmy. I think Callum have more ideas for dessert. Very sad.

287 Anonymous { 07.21.10 at 5:23 pm }
288 kugel { 07.21.10 at 5:29 pm }

LP: maybe I’m grabbing at straws. The dessert just looks too sophisticated…

Anonymous: Hope it’s right.

289 littlepetal { 07.21.10 at 5:30 pm }

He he he. We have Jimmy winning, Claire has been mentioned too, Callum and Adam are also winners !!!! LOL Of course one of them will win as they are the Top 4.

290 kugel { 07.21.10 at 5:36 pm }

yes funny LP. And if it hasn’t been filmed yet, but judged, then one of the judges leaked it. Even funnier.

291 Fides { 07.21.10 at 7:26 pm }

CG : Completely agree re Callum’s life experience for cookbook. From the previews, it looked like he does savoury and sweet dishes for tonight’s ep – so the judges will compare his vision and dishes to Claire (which will of course be her on a plate : beautiful but unpretentious I think were her words exactly) . And we know Claire makes it to GGs.

So it could be Jimmy making those fondants – I remember it irked me so much in Masterclass when he assisted Gary the other week because he seemed to suggest it was the second dessert he’d ever made in his life. In which case, it’s entirely likely, since there’s no curry on the menu for entree or mains, that he is forced to do dessert for GG. We’ll know in 2 hours, but this speculating and these chats have been fun!

292 kugel { 07.21.10 at 7:32 pm }

Fides: I can’t remember that comment by Jimmy re the desserts, but if that’s the case, there is no way that dessert made for the GG is made by him. It looked stunning.

I think all 4 have to cook dessert and main tonight — not sure about entree as well.

293 Fides { 07.21.10 at 7:50 pm }

hehe, all I remember is after Jimmy had made the fondant, he grinned and said “second dessert”. It was quite soft but it’s definitely what he said though he didn’t qualify it with anything. So he could have meant anything, like “this is the second dessert I’ve made today!” or “if these fondants don’t work, I’d be delighted to make a second dessert!” but because he was already irritating me that episode, I’ve decided he meant second dessert ever in my life… the first dessert would have been that horrid rice pudding that got him in a pressure test.

294 KhunDel { 07.21.10 at 8:06 pm }

I think they all have to do 3 course tonight. From the preview it looks like the following:
Callum does mussels for entree, something that has scallops and something else (look greats) for mains and something round and maybe chocolateish for dessert – looks like he has thing plated up first. Claire does a red meat for main and a panna cotto that is sitting on something with a red sauce and looks like sugared citrus on top of the panna cotto.
Jimmy does some stacked prawns with a curry bisque for one of his courses.
Adam does something ina Japanese bowl with a mound of rice and some seared tuna and not sure what else.
whew !
that is what I got from going through the preview that was on last night.

295 Fides { 07.21.10 at 8:26 pm }

LOL we’re all getting so good at working out the whole show from the previews! I think Adam also does something with eggs – or at least someone is cutting eggs in half. They look like Asian salted duck eggs. Claire’s pannacotta looks really delish!

296 KhunDel { 07.21.10 at 8:55 pm }

Hi Fides – thought the eggs might be Jimmy – the edges look a wee bit rough – assumed Adam would have better knife skills. However Adam has had eggs in his last couple of dishes. Also replayed the preview and Claire’s entree is served in a shell dish so assume her entree is seafood

297 AnonyMousse { 07.21.10 at 9:39 pm }

Well, I guess those sister’s mother’s husband’s son’s rumours about Jimmy winning turned out to be a load of porky pies, eh?

298 kugel { 07.21.10 at 9:45 pm }

Lol yes mousse and we picked the 3 for the GG episode — callum dessert, claire lamb and adam entree
Now we’ll have an agonizing day tomorrow trying to pick the top two! Ugh!

299 AnonyMousse { 07.21.10 at 9:54 pm }

Adam was shown to stuff up in the preview – that’s almost an editor’s guarentee that he’s safe.

300 pluck a duck { 07.21.10 at 10:11 pm }

Using immense powers of deduction, it seems pretty obvious that the top 2 this year will be blokes. Off memory, in MC 1, the top 2 were birds, a bloke was 3rd and a bird was 4th. Jimmy’s just taken out 4th spot tonight (thanks for that Jimmy), therefore to reverse the sex positions (pardon my eruditeness) from last year for the top 3, Claire has to go out tomorrow in 3rd spot, leaving Adam and Callum to fight it out for the top 2 spots. Could the craftiness of the MC producers be that simple? If so, what’s the code to work out the winner from those 2 blokes?

301 kugel { 07.21.10 at 10:15 pm }

Plucky: I don’t think so. What’s the point of having 2 guys? Just to reverse what happened last year? But ok, given your question the code would be
2 As a D and an M

Or to be safe: some one with 2 syllables in their name which ends in M

302 AnonyMousse { 07.21.10 at 10:15 pm }

pluck a duck – if everything’s the reverse of last season, then clearly that means the asian-descent cook wins and the anglo-saxon-descent cook comes in second this time around.

303 Bstar { 07.21.10 at 10:20 pm }

Maybe the winner will be the chef
behind the trees on the grassy knoll

304 KhunDel { 07.21.10 at 10:33 pm }

Last year the winner was the one that kowtowed all season and was prone to perspire a bit so maybe that person this year will be the runner up?
Last year the contestant that was born in Malaysia was runner up so perhaps this year that contestant wins?

305 littlepetal { 07.21.10 at 10:44 pm }

I think Adam deserve to win. He has shown creativity and style.

306 kugel { 07.21.10 at 10:49 pm }

Agree LP. He may have even knocked Marion off her perch. He’s an intelligent guy and an intelligent cook. A thoughtful cook. I like that depth. Almost the opposite to Donna Hay’s style.

Having said that, I know Callum is inspiring Gen Y males — how good is that.

But we’ll be queuing to eat in his restaurant in a few years, whether he wins or not.

307 Fides { 07.21.10 at 11:18 pm }

But who will get their own show on ABC?

I think Adam and Callum will be F2. I’m in two minds about wanting Adam to win because I just think the title is something of a poisoned chalice and I would want him to have respect and longevity in his career- not be remembered for winning a reality TV show. Despite whatever substantial talent he has, I just think the title taints it a bit. But he would be a deserving winner. Hang on, I’m getting carried away. He’s got to get past tomorrow night first, fish bones and all.

308 kugel { 07.21.10 at 11:26 pm }

Lol Fides. yes that’s why I wrote that tomorrow this forum will be hot.

Our analysis of the GG preview proved correct. Now we have nothing to go on.

Except our instinct…sniffing…

309 Fides { 07.21.10 at 11:39 pm }

Yep pretty proud of our collective forearms analysis! Those MC producers will have to think of better ways to show previews in future… but no, I hope they don’t. I would have been anxious each night had I not known that Adam made it to GGs already on Sunday night.

What are your instincts saying?

310 kugel { 07.21.10 at 11:48 pm }

Loving the commentaries here guys. Fides we should stop talking about the previews — they are going to make it harder for us predict the finalists in the future.

On of my desires says adam and callum because I would like both to win

another says adam and claire because it would callum won’t lose

regardless, I think Adam and Callum are the winners.

311 littlepetal { 07.21.10 at 11:59 pm }

I would love to see Adam and Claire as the Final 2 but I think it will be Adam and Callum and Callum will win.

But it doesn’t make sense to have Callum coming out with a cookbook. Imagine during the launch of the cookbook and when asked what are you doing now? and he said I am an apprentice with so and so !!!!

312 Fides { 07.22.10 at 12:07 am }

Good point LP! It’s not like he really has all that expertise to be teaching people all those techniques in a cookbook. He should just do a dessert cookbook – I’d consider buying it! I love dessert cookbooks, even though I don’t make them much. They just inspire me to want to try something new.

Love the way you say it kugel! Agree, Adam and Callum are the winners whatever the result. I think Claire’s perfectionism will be a hindrance and will prevent her seeing what a positive experience this has, or should have, been. Like if/when she gets eliminated, she’d be so hard on herself about why she didn’t do it better. She needs some of Aaron’s “do your best, have no regrets” attitude.

313 Reality Raver { 07.22.10 at 1:00 am }

On Crikey today they said Adam wins

314 CG { 07.22.10 at 1:27 am }

GREAT JOB, guys! As soon as they narrowed it down to Jimmy and Claire tonight we knew the outcome. I was a little disappointed I knew for certain who was going but the result was so obvious after Jimmy’s shocking dishes in tonight’s episode.

I have a sick feeling that the comments tonight about Adam’s food not appealing to the “western palate” could be the kiss of death. Are they rationalising why Adam should not win?

Also, Callum’s cookbook idea makes a lot of commercial sense and I suspect that he did not come up with the idea on his own. At his age and lack of experience, a book of recipes on some theme like “hearth” (WTF?) would not be credible. Having him publish more of a “how to” book based on basic techniques is the perfect solution to this issue.

I hope it is Adam and Callum in the final and that Adam takes it out. Iam optimistic that Ch10 is mature enough and gives the Aussie public enough credit for being able to deal with a winner who has an Asian heritage and choose to cook Asian dishes.

315 CG { 07.22.10 at 1:49 am }

Great job on the predictions and analysis guys!! When it came down to the final two tonight (Jimmy v. Claire) we all knew the outcome! I was a little disappointed I knew the outcome but happy to see Jimmy go as he deserved to go a long time ago.

As for who survives the GG challenge and ends up in the final two, I thought the judges comments tonight about Adam’s dish not appealing to the “western palate” could be the kiss of death. Will Ch10, Fremantle and the power that be think it is a step too far to pick a winner with an Asian heritage who wants to publish an Asia-focused cookbook??

I’m also suspicious about how well thought out Callum’s cookbook seems to be. He could not have credibly written a cookbook full of recipes based on a theme like “the Hearth” (WTF?) so what they have come up with makes a lot of sense given his age and lack of experience. Did Callum really come up with this highly commerical idea himself or have they already been working with him to develop the book in anticipation of him winning?

I don’t have a gut feel other than it will be a male for all the reasons I stated at the beginning of the season: female last year, so male this year and a style distinct from Julie’s. Adam’s style is more distinct but Callum’s is more a “how to cook “book so also distinct from Julie’s homecooking style.

Callum winning would also move the show more into the “become a great cook” contest vs. a contest of people with existing talent v. latent talent. This would help address critics of this season and potentially position the show for a longer run and hits the sweet spot of 10′s demographics (which are also the most lucrative demographics for advertising sales).

Anyone but Claire is how I feel at this point. Personally, I’d like Adam to win and will be disappointed if being and cooking “Asian” is held against him.

316 MolksTVTalk { 07.22.10 at 10:01 am }

Stuff we know:

1) The finale cook-off is filmed already and likely edited, ready to air.
2) The Top24 (well, those that want to show up) are returning to SYD this Saturday for a SUN late AM filming of the judgement for the finale. This will be crash edited & delivered 9pm-ish as the end of this season.
3) There is no third point.
4) There is no way Claire (sadly) can make it to the finals as she’s no match for the awesome power of a blank-faced 20 year old.
5) There is NO WAY Callum can beat Adam. It’s just not possible. Despite protestations otherwise.

This season has been everything I’d hoped – exciting, gut-wrenching, heart-breaking, appalling, disappointing, emminently watchable. I’ll strap myself in for the next season of this rollercoaster, in the front seat given the chance.

317 pluck a duck { 07.22.10 at 10:38 am }

Didn’t Adam work for Disney in Japan, so theoretically he should be singing “when you wish upon a star, your dream comes true” or however the song goes?

However, like everything else, Callum’s probably pinched that line and will be singing it on Sunday night, after the MC producers have cuckoodled him across the line.

318 littlepetal { 07.22.10 at 11:17 am }

With Season 1, I thought all the other contestants were present to watch the final cook off. I am sure they will do the same this year which make me think they may not have film the finale yet.

Syd Morning Herald seems to think so or Channel Ten is just leading us on.

Just been on Adam’s Facebook support page set up by his friends and it’s telling everyone to cancel their plans on Sunday night to watch Adam take it home. Usually it doesn’t make such proclamations so I do suspect it is true. His friends would probably know if he was eliminated/gets through tonight and if they don’t know, I doubt they would be making such confident statements. So fingers crossed!

329 Fides { 07.23.10 at 1:59 pm }

I’d looked at recipes for snow eggs before and just never seen the appeal. If I want meringue, i want it to crunch and shatter! But I suppose a lovely soft pillowy meringue must have an amazing “mouth feel”.

But the youtube of the Quay one has also has icecream in the middle of it? At least that is what I thought PG said.

Just saw your link to the recipe. Oh my, That looks like a rather complex dish! Have you tried PG’s recipe?

330 Anonymous { 07.23.10 at 2:03 pm }

good to see the final 2 actually doing some ‘work experience’-shame they didn’t do the same a last year and work some of the time in restaurants throughout the comp. Would have sorted them out a bit. Gollums juicer blindness last night would not have impressed in a real kitchen. To be fair he may not have had a fair ‘induction’ to the kitchen. Like the kitchenhand at a site I worked at who was told to peel 60 kg of gourmet potatoes only to nearly have a breakdown until 20 minutes later someone told her the ‘potato’ rumbler and not the peeler is what she should be using

331 Anonymous { 07.23.10 at 2:06 pm }

hehe, I had a dessert souffle at Luke Mangan’s Glass recently and was so underwhelmed. I definitely don’t appreciate fine French food because I found it just plain old soggy and did not like the texture of wet sponge in my mouth! But no doubt PG’s snow eggs would be a wondrous thing.

Yes it will be great to see the F2 out doing work experience. That Flying Fish guy was excellent last time doing the private masterclass.

@RR: Many thanks for your Masterchef blog. I am a lurker who has thoroughly enjoyed reading it and the (often hilarious) comments.

BTW, this thread has way surpassed the Finals thread from 2009, 257 comments for that, to 340 + for this topic, and the show still hasn’t ended yet.

343 Fides { 07.24.10 at 8:44 pm }

Sorry for this long post, gotta get it all out of my system. Have just over 24 hours to expel all MC related angst!

spoilersrock, you must also have been talking to the 10 year old students I teach on a Saturday morning – they are all confidently telling me that Adam has won. When I tried to patiently explain that the verdict is as yet unknown, I was shouted down. Kids today, so rude and ignorant!

I think Callum will win. It’s just been building up that he’s had the greatest journey/grown the most blah blah blah like Julie last year. Plus as someone on another RR thread (sorry can’t remember who, where or when) mentioned an article in this week’s Who Magazine on Callum

http://au.lifestyle.yahoo.com/who/article/-/7629125/masterchef-callums-heartbreak/

so it would top it all off to have him crowned the winner. What a feel good moment that would be! I actually don’t want either of these guys to win. I like them both, but if they want to be taken seriously in the food industry, how does winning a reality TV show help that? In that case, I wish the F2 were Jimmy and Jojo.

So there’ll definitely be a snow eggs challenge and a cheese challenge – hehe, do you think they’ll have to make cheese sauce as part of the basic skills test? Or make mac cheese? Using only the sponsors product perhaps? Oh dear, imagine that… but with 4+ million viewers expected, who knows?

And not a spoiler, but I can tell you there won’t be heartfelt girlfriend reunions (I was thinking for Adam anyway) on finale night – they’ve already done it! And if the show tries it, then it is ALL FAKE. If anyone watched last night’s C10 news, they did a story on F2 and showed them both being reunited with their gfs. The story that ran with it said that they have only seen their gfs for 8 days in the past 9 months and they were finally being reunited – that doesn’t make sense even if Adam’s gf lives in Australia, as both F2 have been home in SA recently and littlepetal mentioned upthread that Callum was spotted with his gf having dinner at Andre’s restaurant at the end of June. So the story then shows the boys going into a dressing room where their gfs are sitting – they go over and hug them. Adam and his girl are really sweet, but Callum is just the cutest when he gives his girl a big hug, looks at her, says “you look pretty!” and starts playing with a brooch pinned on her shirt ( and no, I really don’t think he was using it as an excuse to touch some boobs).

Dammit, I want a really emotional reunion at the end with lots of tears like last year when Julie finally saw her boys. I want to see Gary blubber and Geo fail to hold back the tears (I love his “must not cry” face). It would be a fitting end to all the crying that’s taken place on the show this year. Never mind, no doubt there will still be tears aplenty.

Fides – let it out. I was thinking the Callum thing myself after seeing the Who article. Which would be particularly unsatisfying. Fides I went to Glass about 5 years ago, and thought it particularly underwhelming.

Anonymous – Yes I had the snow egg, and I am not sure, I don’t think it had icecream, however my memory on these things is not good. The dish had a heap of elements.

I have already brace myself for Callum to win. It has been quite obvious that the judges favour Callum but…………. since Channel Ten has made so much money from this show why not be a tie !!!!!!

2 winners won’t cost them an arm or a leg and they get lots of publicity from both of them. Win win for everyone.

(Sigh) Only wishful thinking from me as I really want Adam to win between these 2. My ideal finalists would have been Jonathan and Marion.

347 Nicole { 07.24.10 at 10:48 pm }

@CG
I know you posted that a little while ago, but I’m fangsupnicolee! hahahaha!

348 Fides { 07.25.10 at 12:35 am }

Nice idea LP! They certainly can afford it. It’s not like they’ve never had a dead heat on this show before; haven’t there been two this season?

I’ve also worked out that when you consider that the winner spends around 8 months away from home, and is the property of MC 24 hours a day, the $100 K comes out at about $18 per hour. And when you consider on that silly MKR, they get the same prize money merely for suffering through other people’s dinner parties then cooking a few themselves, MC prizemoney is pittance.

I’ll let Callum take the win. Adam doesn’t need it, he’s better off without it.

Anyway, I can only hope they get Peter Russell Clarke in as guest judge for the cheese challenge.

349 crabtech { 07.25.10 at 2:34 am }

The winners are the eliminated contestants especially the ones that live interstate. If they have already filmed the cooking section of the final (and they would need to do that as no-one would sit throughy a final in real time ) they will need to fly the contestants back for the final announcement.
Totally agree it was strange that they only had some of the contestants talk about what they had done since they were eliminated. Could it be that they aren’t doing anything related with food? Although that can’t be true as I think I read she has started a cooking school for children with intellectual disabilities.
A little belatedly – CG 233 you were right about Claire and Woman’s Day article being a clue that she was eliminated.

350 Anonymous { 07.25.10 at 6:08 am }

Good points regards the compensation for the winner. I feel the final will be a letdown. Wow this thread is long-we should aim for 400 posts: a record number in line with is it 4 million to watch the final?

351 Fides { 07.25.10 at 11:47 am }

crabtech – I was hoping they’d talk to Adele about she’d been up to as well!. She was one I wish had stayed longer in the competition. Perhaps they did ask most what they were up to, but the editors just picked the people they thought would be popular and interesting.

Anonymous : hmmmm, 400 posts on this spoiler thread when there are about 11 hours before we know the verdict – it’ll take a big effort. So c’mon everyone, start thinking of some spoilers!

So here’s mine : my dog knows a producer’s dog, and his dog says that Callum makes cheese on toast and Adam makes a cheese croquembouche – thanks Jimmy’s relatives for that! (aside – i once made cheese and brandy choux pastry and it was soggy but yum!) The judges decide you shouldn’t take big risks in the finale so Callum wins that round. In the invention test, dog can’t exactly remember the ingredients but knows it contains foods which are no-nos for dogs, so Callum makes his third consecutive chocolate fondant and Adam makes a Japanese style salad with onions, garlic, broccoli, avocado and grapes. Callum wins this easily because the judges won’t eat the salad. So Callum wins.

352 littlepetal { 07.25.10 at 1:05 pm }

Read in the paper today. Out of the Top 10 finalists, only Jimmy thinks Callum will win, Claire undecided (that is another story) and the rest think Adam will win.

With Claire, there is another story.

‘Word from the inside of the MC camp is that Claire left the show with few friends. Allegedly, she offended colleagues on set with her puuting tantrums and tears, and barely co-operated with tonight’s finale episode because she was so sour about being kicked off.
“She was such a bad sport” an onset source said. “she was even hiding from the camera when they tried to film the final scenes”
With such a reputation, we can’t see many endorsements coming her way.’

353 littlepetal { 07.25.10 at 1:37 pm }

Another theory about who will win tonight. In Wikipedia, they have started a page for Adam but not Callum. The only other contestant to have a page is Marion. Does this mean Wiki knows something that we don’t?

354 crabtech { 07.25.10 at 1:52 pm }

littlepetal Sorry anyone can start a page on wikipedia as long as you register so that is no help.
Tweet from Donna Hay at 9.46 “Will be heading into Masterchef HQ soon for rehearsals before tonights big finale. Best of luck to both Adam and Callum.”
If she’s truthful then the final part of tonight is being filmed now so it will be hard for spoilers.
Another curious tweet this time from rockpoolgroup, Neil Perry, Rockpool “Adam for Master Chef tonight. Saw all the contestants heading out for a meal last night, hope not to many hangovers today. Not me dry July!”
As for the other contestants Peter was shopping at Slow Food market at the Convent in Collingwood (Abbotsford) so they must have flown them up yesterday afternoon.

355 Fides { 07.25.10 at 1:54 pm }

LP : Knowing what a strategic mind Jimmy has, it’s entirely possible he’s correctly picked Callum as the winner. Wiki page – maybe it’s just no one is interested enough in Callum to bother. Do you know if the quote about Claire’s behaviour is from the cook-off finale, or the one filmed today? Hopefully she’s calmed down a bit – coming third is this circus is not too bad.

356 littlepetal { 07.25.10 at 2:06 pm }

crabtech-If they are filming the finale cooking challenges, they can’t have rehearsal!!! Rehearsal can only be for the announcement of the results .

357 littlepetal { 07.25.10 at 2:06 pm }

Fides-Yes, Jimmy said Callum will share his winnings with him.

358 crabtech { 07.25.10 at 2:18 pm }

LIttle vpetal I mean the annoucement. I think everone has agreed that the cooking has been filmed already possibly 3 weeks ago. All they are filming today will be the scores and the announcements so that might require rehearsals. I wonder if DH was a judge.

359 Fides { 07.25.10 at 2:21 pm }

I’m so curious now! How much rehearsal can they have for the announcement while keeping the reactions after the real announcement looking genuine and, well, not rehearsed?!

360 crabtech { 07.25.10 at 2:22 pm }

any bets what will be on the front page tomorrow? Certainly not the debate.
And if Callum wins that will dominate even more the radio and morning shows

361 littlepetal { 07.25.10 at 2:28 pm }

Of course not the debate. We are only interested in who won MC. I think the winner is already booked in to be on radio and morning shows.

Julia and Abbott can take a back sit. They may get more publicity if they get the winner of MC to campaign for them.

362 PollyB { 07.25.10 at 2:38 pm }

Adding to the post count
I noticed in the promo, shot from above, two white-coated people, one tall, one short with dark hair, with their arm around each other. The tall one had a ‘hugger’ on his left, the short dark haired one had no-one to his right. From that I’m assuming who the winner is. Best of luck to both of them. :)

363 Fides { 07.25.10 at 2:40 pm }

Hmmm, Matt P says he won’t be tweeting congrats to the winner until later tonight (after WA has seen it)… we know Adam has a genuine twitter account, Callum’s looks like a generic/fake one.

364 Anonymous { 07.25.10 at 2:45 pm }

Interesting Polly B….
The bit filming today is only slated in for 40 minutes according to my HDD player…the Masterchef finale goes 7.30-9 then the ‘announcement is 9-940.
Re: Claire…all the post elimination appearances I saw on tele she said hardly anything-7pm Project Matt talked much more than she did and on The Circle she was quiet as a mouse in a house…

PollyB, I thought the promo shots with huggers and lots of glitter was just the one they did from last year? Or has a new ad come out this morning since the official announcement has been made? Last year, I think eagle eyes could spot that Julie won just from that promo and even saw Julia and Chris kissing!

368 PollyB { 07.25.10 at 3:08 pm }

Fides, don’t know about last years, but the two in white coats looked like our boys to me. Couldn’t see real clearly through the glitter though. Certainly didn’t look to be as big as Julie to me. But after posting, and remembering, doh, that final scenes are being filmed as we post, perhaps they filmed that after the actual cooking this year and there is nothing to it. Or CH10 doing normal elimination thing – trying to tempt us down the completely incorrect path. Gee I’ll be glad when this is all over! :)

Yep definitely the same girl they show on the Channel 10 video from few nights ago. Very cute tweets (the English ones, awww). So she’s lives in Tokyo, and Adam’s got no visa so can’t go back to Japan. Awwww -the gossip mags will need to follow up that story!

It’s just as well Claire did not make F2, given they’ve published both the girlfriends’ names in the papers today. I even saw an interview with Callum and his girl. They are cute!

372 crabtech { 07.25.10 at 4:15 pm }

Adam appears to be the stronger cook and he should win. Something else they will have to take into account is avoiding accusation of being biased against asians. Can’t have 2 asian ruuners up two years in row. Although avoiding controversy is something that has not bothered the producers so far.

373 CG { 07.25.10 at 4:43 pm }

Someone twittered about an hour ago that they saw the whole group of MC contestants at a cafe nearby the Alexandria studios where they film. By all accounts, filming of the final announcement is supposed to commence at 5:30pm. So if there are any leaks they will only come out around 7pm or so. Twitter will likely be the best forum for leaks but impossible to tell if they are legitimate unless from a verified contestant account?

374 CG { 07.25.10 at 4:51 pm }

I wonder if Julie Goodwin will be at the finale now that she has defected to Ch9 and Ch9 is promoting that she is going to be on The Today show tomorrow to discuss the outcome?

Will it be like the “Miss Australia/America/Universe” pageant? Will Julie make a final puddle pie, give a little speech about her reign and then take off her tiara and put it on MC 2010?

375 Fides { 07.25.10 at 4:54 pm }

Thanks CG : wow, they are keeping it close to the chest aren’t they! It must be nerve-wracking to be Callum or Adam – the anticipation must be killing them. I do wonder what they do all day for rehearsal though!

376 Anonymous { 07.25.10 at 4:56 pm }

The result should be Adam Masterchef and Callum Masterapprentice

377 littlepetal { 07.25.10 at 5:00 pm }

I have read on the official forum that they have filmed 2/3 of the finale and from 5pm today they will film the remaining 1/3. Does this mean they have done 2 challenges and will do the last challenge today? If this is the case, the finale is can be rigged by the producers. They can chop and change along the way to favour which someone.

378 CG { 07.25.10 at 5:15 pm }

A sign of “rigged” – IMO – is if like last year there are three challenges – each contestant wins one and it comes down to the third one. From the various stories that have circulated in the last few weeks, I get the impression all the challenges have been filmed earlier – including the final pressure test – and all that is being filmed today is the 40 minute announcement of the winner – which will no doubt include lots of dragging things out, walk down memory lane, etc.

If the challenges are what we have heard about: (i) cheese identification; (ii) taste test; and (iii) pressure test – the winner of the first two would be known to all the contestants – only the pressure test would be subjective.

I reckon that during the earlier filming they filmed everything up to and including the judges tasting the pressure test dishes. Therefore what is being filmed this afternoon is the annoucement of the pressure test winner – which will also be the overall winner.

Can’t imagine a scenario where (for example), Adam wins cheese identification and taste test, Callum wins presssure test – and then judges need to make an overall winner decision separate from the results of the three tests??

I think they need to take out these ridiculous “basic skills tests” (identifying nuts, cheeses, etc.) and taste tests once they get to the final 10 or so. All tests after that point should be COOKING and cooking alone.

Iff this year also has contestants tied after cheese test and taste test… just like last year…well, how many seasons can they go with such a stage-managed finale without losing all credibility??

379 Anonymous { 07.25.10 at 5:20 pm }

Yes I agree with most of above but didn’t they award points last year?
http://video.au.msn.com/watch/video/julie-wins-masterchef/x5a2mee?fg=rss

380 CG { 07.25.10 at 5:23 pm }

Anon, yes, I think you are right re point system. But either way, IIRC it was “close” between Julie and Poh going in to the taste test…and either contestant could win. Can’t imagine where one contestant has an overwhelming lead going in to pressure test that would require a total breakdown by that person for the other to pull out a win. Could be wrong … and hope I am wrong!

381 Fides { 07.25.10 at 6:25 pm }

Yes I remember it like that too – I thought it was totally rigged last year when Julie and Poh had to do the chicken invention test. I think Julie received much more favourable comments than Poh, but their scores were almost identical. Then when Matt Moran choc tart came along, Julie ran away with it cos Poh had a brain freeze. I think in fact it was better with Celebrity Masterchef when there were 3 in the finale – at least it reduced the chance of a one horse race.

382 littlepetal { 07.25.10 at 6:33 pm }

So the 3 challenges will be 1) something to do with cheese 2) Invention test and 3) Pressure Test (Snow Egg)

383 CG { 07.25.10 at 10:25 pm }

Last chance for a spoiler: all the news outlets will know the winner in advance…will one of them pull the trigger before it is “live” on tv ?

384 littlepetal { 07.25.10 at 10:53 pm }

I am so happy that I was proven wrong. Right decision !!!

385 Anonymous { 07.26.10 at 3:26 am }

Yes thank god Adam won. Didn’t mind the challenges:agree ith RR that Callum should have had points deducted for the hollandaise and cream in his scrambled eggs.(omlette). I found it funny that the 2 contestants who put on the most weight were in the final 2. Thanks RR for the blog and the spoiler thread.
