Masterchef Judges Admit They Are Porkier This Year
Masterchef Australia judges in the TV Week have admitted what most viewers have noticed it that adjudicating on a food show can be dangerous for your waistline. The photo above is a promo shot from last year.
In the latest edition of TV Week Gary Mehigan talks about the weight issue:
“I think we’ve put on a few kilos,” Gary Mehigan admits. “George saw a photo of us in the paper and said, ‘We look slimmer in that picture!'”
And they are not alone. Adam Liaw, 31, reveals the competition has also had an impact on the contestants.
“The first thing I’ll do when it’s over is go on a diet and try to lose the kilos I’ve put on,” he laughs. “I’ve put on seven and Callum’s put on eight kilos!”
Gary who allegedly once had a six-pack is concerned. He states:
“It has to worry me,” he moans. “I’m a middle-aged man with a spreading girth! I never thought I’d be a chubby middle-aged man, but I’ve turned into one!”
And it’s not just the contestants’ dishes that are to blame. Gary also sings the praises of the “brilliant” on-set caterers who provide their meals.
“We have a really healthy lunch and we try to keep the carbs down and not eat dessert,” he says. “On particular days we know we’re going to be eating lots of little bits of food, so we really keep it to a minimum. But we can’t understand how we put on weight when we only eat tiny amounts – and often, which is what the health gurus say to do to keep your metabolism up. I’m sure my metabolism is perfectly tuned to storing fat at the moment!”
Gary has turned to the gym. But he says time is his biggest obstacle. “I know it is a poor excuse, but if I’m not working. I’m sleeping,” he says. “It’s just a crazy world at the moment. I know health comes first, but it just doesn’t seem to be on the priority list right now.”
