Neil Perry is in the news.com papers today back pedalling as fast as he can. I reckon he is only digging a bigger hole for himself. Perry is known to be volatile: recall recent incident where he fired a pregnant "hostess" at Rockpool and other outbursts over the years. But the funniest bit is everything he said is exactly what everyone has been thinking this season: the contest has degenerated into a "game show" , the "best amateur cooks" are "nobodies", and it is unlikely if not foolish to think any of them will go on to long-term success in the industry unless they step back and are willing to put in the hard yards. If Perry had said something truly outrageous that would be one thing - but what he has said puts in writing what most top chefs and a majority of viewers have been thinking and saying on blogs like RR for many weeks.

Pinto and CG - It is interesting that Matt Preston does tweet as it means he is talking outside the guard dogs that protect the "talent" . I suppose they think that because Matt works in the media that he is savvy enough not to put the brand at risk.

Chunks - would love to here how the truffle class goes.

Kingfisher - I hope you are right about the two re-entering, but I doubt it very much.

Jen - you are right. A lot of people fast track their careers by appearing on a reality shows. Some will use it as platform like Poh, and others will resume their normal lives, like all the contestants on My Kitchen Rules.

Wurstsemmel - maybe he thinks he is like Samson and his culinary mojo will go if the ponytail is lopped?

KC - It is an opportunity to be utilised, for some luck is involved as well as talent.

Muru - It is a game show/ competition, but do you think half of them are bullshitting about their culinary dream. I kind of got the feeling Jono made the french brasserie dream on the hop.

Brain Dead Dave - he would have to fight Matt P for them

CG: Matt is the only judge with a Twitter account and he uses it a lot to interact with the Masterchef hashtag (it is strangely exciting when he replies to you). I think this is the predominant reason for his comments although agree he has more to lose in terms of credibility.

Interesting how Matt P. is always the one that comes out for damage control (Callum last week, Neil Perry comments this week)?

I suppose of all the judges he is the one that is most "at risk" when MC gets ridiculed in the media. George and Gary will continue to run their restaurants and I would imagine that the sheer popularity of MC will lead to all kinds of persons visiting their restaurants for the novelty value. But Matt has to maintain his credibility not just with the public within and across his profession. Matt also has to maintain relationships with top chefs and restauranteurs in order to get access, be in demand by publications, etc.

The integrity of MC would seem to be more important to Matt's career than that of the others.
