OPEN POST: Masterclass – The Final One
Sorry guys for being late with this. I got diverted by the mundanities of everyday life.
Tonight it is the final masterclass and looks like George and Gary will be doing a mystery box like last year.
Also I found this article on Sarah Wilson’s blog where she implies she left Masterchef as she wanted to be more then a dolly bird.

Was going to watch this, but got bored within 5 seconds of it starting. :\
Am following the tweeter feed of #masterchef – way more interesting.
Yep – too boring. they should have got the returning 24 to have a quick contest to choose who got to select the mystery box for G and G.
If Dom’s come back better hide the cooking wine and Vanilla Essence…am half hour behind you folks.Fifteen mins in and still have the mute on.
aww…Matt and Callum are together again…
I know. It’s so adorable. ^_^!
Can feel the Matthew!Love coming through twitter, too, lol.
Interesting contrasts between Adam’s one-on-one at the start of the show and Callums – Perhaps it’s my perception, but Adam’s seemed a lot closer to a meeting of equals, whereas Callums was definitely a case of being told how to do it. Selling out with 35 specials was a pretty good job as well (I presume, unless they do that every day at that restaurant).
Makes you wonder if there was something we weren’t shown, to indicate such a huge difference of dishes sold between Adam and Callum.
Specials usually sell pretty good, I would think?
Like how George just took the piss out of Callum, after Callum took the piss out of him.
George should to do pantomine
Now, we know how they change the time…
Feel the Gs love for Jonno…
Ouch, Gary’s got all claws out
Ouch..did Gary really say ‘one pot wonder’ to Jimmy
Noticing:
Jonnos ‘caesar’ hairdo
Callum has grown a bit and lost weight, but his nose is still the same size
Gary’s 1-pot wonder crack … ouch!
Gary’s bald spot, and his crush on Fiona (woowoo)
Callums custard crack – noice
Gary’s going gooier than a fondant over Fiona. He’s obsessing over saying “soft peaks”.
Everyone who’s gotten tired of all the antics of Masterchef needs to watch the mystery box challenge from tonight – they took every dig they could.
BDD – I noticed the soft peaks thing too!
Callums showing quite a bit of personality, but ho-hum the going is generally sloooooow
The GG take of the mystery box was LOL funny
George is mixing white chocolate and duck fat and gas .To top it all, he ” burns his nuts”. What would happen if he lit a fart for an encore?
It was so cute and so funny! I love the digs they took at everyone to everyone. Those lame but funny one-liners that Gary, George and Matt always say, the bouncy toes, Jono, nervousness, crying, fishbone! It was seriously funniest episode ever!
Geo has shares in alka selzer either that or his stomach has a cholorophyl lining.
The funniest bit was Marion, she was jesting about a sauce range – ha, god she’s a ham
I agree that the last half hour really was funny.
Love tonight episode. George was laughing his head off and have to put his head on the bench.
Now Jamie Oliver is bawling on his show that “Nobody understands me or why I am here!”
Claire was before her time after all.
Meh, mildly entertaining, now I remember why I never bother to watch Friday night episodes. It was too optimistic to think they’d kick it up a notch since this is the last for the season.
The pantomimes and caricatures were a little painful after a while too.
Gary Mehigan was gold, I must try and watch him on Boy’s Weekend.
I wanted to see more of Joanne and other contestants
Devon was a treat to watch ,,, he looked YUMMOOO
I too wanted to see more of the other contestants
I know Callum and Adam are the finalists but we only got to see a little of the eliminated contestants, some not even at all!
I actually cringed when Callum and Adam were doing the impersonations, laughed but cringed.. it was so unnatural…haha, cooks make bad actors.
The episode made me feel all warm and fuzzy inside. I loved Aaron’s speech about being a family at the end, and oh, how I missed Marion’s beaming smile and entertaining commentary..
All warm and fuzzy
why was joanne absent from the last get together before the finals ?
friday 23rd july
dex-Joanne was there. She was sitting next to Jimmy in the back row. They didn’t zoom on her at all!!!!
Loved the panto at the end.
Am a bit worried about Gary’s health though. He certainly wasn’t Mr Cool, Calm and Collected tonight. Perhaps it was the Fiona factor…but I think it was more likely to be his blood pressure. I think there might be a bit of pressure on all three judges to slim down for next year.

Greetings from the US of A,
I stumbled onto the UK version of this show last year, and have been watching your version since April(?). From there I came across this site and have been enjoying the discussions as well. As such I thought I would share a few thoughts.
The Oz version is certainly more entertaining and I believe our countries a lot of culinary similarities. Reasonably young, multicultural, and free of European tyranny.
Someone here commented on the number of attorneys as contestants and pondered as to the soul crushing nature of the profession. As a member of this august group (here we are counselors of equity and attorneys at law) I would like to thank that person for the assumption that lawyers have souls to begin with, and confirm her conclusion. Were it not for our smug senses of superiority and self satisfaction many more of us would go postal.
I enjoyed learning some of your lingo, sprinkles = hundreds and thousands, iced vovos, golden gay times (a product that could never exist here under that name), and the chico roll (even us yanks can learn something about gut busting, heart stopping food.
As to the contestants; Aaron, we have his kind here in NYC (we call them douche bags) (a fitting name for the beanie as well). St Marion, I do not think anyone could or should look that happy all the time without pharmaceutical aid. Weepy porcelain Claire, Alvin and his manipulative stories, you all said what needed to be said. Jono, I do not see why people thought he was arrogant. He had the knowledge and graciously tried to help the others (Adele and the tomato paste)
What a ride, thanks for the memories and while MC Oz ends on Sunday, that is when ours starts. Good times.
wow johngalt- great post…you may even change my mind about yanks, lol
Joanne did not talk, taste or anything! She must have requested a low profile. During her time in masterchef they zoomed in on her constantly. Kate also given a very low profile. Good to see the great Marion in high profile.
I normally find friday’s show to be very tedious but last night was great with it’s end is school feel about it. I think they should do the mystery box challenge more often, maybe with other guest chefs as well. Good to see Adam and Callum actually getting some kitchen time in two great restaurants as well .
johngalt – Let’s hope someone uploads the US version to a torrent site! I believe it’s going to be a similar format to the Aus. version with Gordon Ramsay hosting??
I will be searching for MC US online too-will let all know if I find it(athough have never worked out the torrent thing)> Think they should set up an identical final show for the Jono and Marion to compete
John Galt_I love to USA(or the few cities I have visited:people were great and the food:great):thanks your reflections on the show:I agree with
John Galt – hope you realise the MC judges are not real people, they are all in character -Ali G/Borat style- our country wouldnt otherwise sanction such drippy behaviour
http://www.fox.com/masterchef/
Great quotes like: “It’s on like donkey kong”. Fab dishes like “funeral potatoes”. Not sure what the schedule is, don’t think it will be on every day. Am hoping that foxtel here air it so I can save my quota for other shows!
I can’t view Fox progs on that site though Liberty?
You should be able to view all the previews – I had no trouble. If you follow the link above the first preview should start playing. If you go directly to the video page, it will say you are in the wrong country. I double you’d be able to watch full eps. I read somewhere that it airs here from mid-aug. on food channel.
^ The clips are working for me, Anonymous. I see Ramsay’s up to his usual polite tricks in the Beer Cheese Soup clip.
(And they’re giving a $250,000 prize (US) in the US version. Makes the Aus one look like cheapskates, considering the profit being made)
thanks-yes seen all the previews on youtube-don’t have paytv(food channel)
re: last nights show during the hosts cooking segment george already had a bandaid prior to them showing him cutting his finger-usual editing
RR – Sarah Wilsons Blog cracked me up – der I dont think she left MC because of the eye candy demands. It may have had something to do with the fact she appears to be an obsessive health nut that basically avoids everyfood to man and spends big bucks getting detox products home delivered. She must have been gagging every episode watching the Gs consume all that gluten and fat, not to mention, shock horror – coconut milk!! – her latest sinner food. In the end the therapist suggested politely if you want to end those dreams of drowing in a vat of ghee, it might be good to get your CV out there.
MC has been fodder for all stations this year especially ACA: here’s one story(they also had one on Roberta Williams becoming a Masterchef wtf?)
http://aca.ninemsn.com.au/celebrity/7934152/masterchef-finalists
Geo is now endorsing Plaistowe chocolate in full page colour ads – he signs his name off in chocolate on a plate, a la Callum, hes signs though not as chef, part owner, wanker ordinarie, proud Greek or anthing like that but as….boom boom…. ‘Masterchef judge’….wonder if its on his passport – would give my last olive to see the French authorities expression, quelle horror
John Galt – thank you for your thoughts, and please at some stage send us your thoughts on the US version of Masterchef, as it looks like it is going to be good. I am hoping Gordon is a toned down version of his Hell’s Kitchen self. BTW love NYC, and just returned from a holiday there 2 months ago. Great restaurants, great people, and fantastic museums.
Pollywaffle – Yes I had envisaged her having a role like Padama Lakshmi on Top Chef, host plus a judging role. So she was kind of superfluous. I wonder if they knew about her dietary restrictions prior to the series, I presume they did. However the show did put her name back into circulation.
RR, funnily enough the MC talent agent was quoted in The Age news today – she is famous for stating the 3 judges were the ugliest recruit on her books- so Sarah was needed initially as an antidote to the trollfest
Must say I totally enjoyed the last part when G & G did the mystery box cook off. There was a genuine feeling of warmth and camaraderie and lots of funny moments. Interesting that only a small handful got to say what they were doing now and there was no mention of Phil working in a pizza takeaway. Oh well, who is John Galt…
Pollywaffle – Well she does have Manu on her books… Hey did you watch My Kitchen Rules? What did you think?
Chunks – are you serious is Phil working in a pizza takeaway?
He was working in a pizza bar when he first left the show RR. I think he may be studying as well. I forget now. I saw it in a story about him posting pics of himself in trunks on his Facebook page or somewhere. I got distracted by his abs…
Photos of Phil working at pizza place

Saturday’s Daily Terror had a 12-page lift-out on Masterchef with all the info that you just had to know – like how much pink salt was used, how many people did the washing etc., as well as being crammed with advertisements for kitchenware and related products. So many words, i.e. newsprint, television & radio…..and, of course, the advertising and promotions….what are they going to do after tonight. The cash cow has left the building!
Scruff- thanks
Liberty- You can be sure “someone” will make the torrent available
Anon-Thanks, I feel the same about Oz (Although I was only in Melbourne and Sydney)
Polly- You must take responsibility for those guys(and also Yahoo Serious)(and Vegemite)(I was happy to see it used as an adjective the other night), just as we must accept and apologize for unleashing Dane Cook and David Hasselhoff upon the world (if only we had an ascot mascot like Matt)
RR- First, see above (response to Anon), second, thanks, for the kind words and witty breakdown of MC (too many to recount here), and last let us hope that we can produce a cast of characters worthy of ridicule.
RR – My Kitchen Rules? Like dinners with people from work, you feel compelled to attend, its all too polite and everyone is faking having fun for the sake of ‘the team’. I never gave a fig about who won or lost, nor got anything ‘wow’ out of their food. If one of their kitchens had blown up and burnt down I would have used the opportunity for a toilet break.
I agree with Anonymous above(not me) MKK as the most embaressing program I havewatched-surprised anyone watched it. MC is a joke but it is better than MKK. The drama of the South Australians rainy day. I like the concept but something just didn’t seem right about it. I think C7 has the rights too Iron Chef? If its anything like the UK version t won’t last long
Even Matt Moran is getting into it: http://www.heraldsun.com.au/entertainment/any-of-top-10-could-have-won/story-e6frf96f-1225896550432
