Matt Newton In Sydney Psychiatric Hospital

Ok it is time to call a spade a spade. Matt Newton now former host of The X Factor is now in Sydney in a Psychiatric Hospital at Wentworthville Northside Clinic. Yes calling it rehab is a more gentle way of letting the world know he has some issues, but come on being in a psych hospital should not be seen as a negative thing. (Source: Daily Telegraph)

What is negative that somehow being allegedly majorly depressed, if that really is his diagnosis, is some excuse for hitting two girlfriends that we know of.

This is insulting to the 1000’s of people that suffer from depression in the day to day lives who do now harm to others.

I somehow suspect that there is more to his illness than depression.

What I find interesting is that a newspaper report, I think it was the Daily Telegraph, said that Rachael Taylor was found in his dressing room on set cowering in a corner. Now if this is the case, when did Channel 7 know their choice of host was going pear-shaped and what did they do about it?

Also as Annette Sharpe wrote yesterday in Sydney Confidential, they gave him housing a couple of hundred grand to someone just out of rehab. What did they think was going to happen?

As one of my commenters mentioned yesterday, was Matt actually set up by the Network, and the production company?

Anyway New Idea has a big article on it when it publishes tomorrow so maybe it will have more about the saga. The good news as they are linked to Network Seven, they should have the inside gossip, however don’t expect any criticism of the TV channel.

I wonder if he was set up as well. My daily dose of Today Tonight shows a network being REALLY harsh on one of its own.

I’m sure channel 7 is pissed off. They gave this guy a big chance to get things back on track and he blew it.

can someone please acknowledge that the arrogant little pr!ck needs to take responsibility for his own actions!!! No-one forced him to sign up for any gig, no-one forced him to bash anyone. he is a spoilt brat who has been protected from his own problems, and now he has to pay the price. Lay the blame/fault whatever you want it to call, where it belongs…with Matt Newton!!!!!

Why has no-one mentioned drug-induced psychosis born out of being spoiled rotten by “entertainment royalty” and being led to believe that he is entitled to behave in any way he chooses? Booking himself into a psychiatric facility is a way of avoiding prosecution and a criminal record—–“I was not well so therefore not resposible for my actions” even though he only chose to bash women and not men. If he is a psychotic as he and his family would lead us to believe, surely his angry outbursts would be so unmanageable that both genders would be potential victims. Seems that he is nothing more than a spoiled perpetrator who hides behind the broad spectrum of “mental illness” (which is female specific in his case) in order to protect himself and his family at the cost of others safety.

Dmc YOUR COMMENT IS VERY NASTY. No wonder people end up on medication for mental illnesses.When there getting mentally abused by people like you.When they want to throw nasty comments at them like that or physically abuse them.People like you should be on the medication.

7 no respect for people with mental illness { 05.17.11 at 1:42 am }

I have a brother who suffers from schizophrenia. An when people make slurs towards his mental illness or towards mental illness in anyway.I just want to hit them,cause there nasty remarks regarding mental illness hurts me.

8 You could end up with a mental illness or someone close { 05.17.11 at 1:54 am }

People who make slurs regarding mental illness or slurs towards people who are mentally ill. Never realize until it happens that someone close to them or they themselves could end up with a mental illness.Don’t make slurs toward mental illness cause you never know when one of your own could end up with a mental illness.

the point is that “mental illness” is not an excuse for a person’s actions, and maybe if Matt Newton and his family had properly acknowledged and addressed his illness (with their vast resources and connections) then the whole sorry mess could have been avoided. He bashed someone, moew than once- and NOTHING excuses that.

He has to take ownership of the problem, and hiding behind his “celebrity” status doesn’t cut it- it is no good for him, and certainly not for his victims. If he genuinely has an illness, and this is not a ‘celebrity excuse for his actions’, then yes we can feel sorry for his illness, BUT that NEVER excuses his actions!!! It appears as if he (& his family) thought he could get away with his behaviour because of his status- this is WRONG.

The slurs, as some call them, are towards Matt Newton and what appears to be a new & convenient excuse for his behaviour, not metnal illness in general.
