My Kitchen Rules – Ann Maree And Nick Admit The Show Hurt Their Marriage

Regular viewers will have noticed then tension between South Australian couple Ann-Maree and Nick when they are cooking together on the show.

So it was no surprise when I read that the show has had an impact on the newly married couple.

Digital Spy who is quoting a New Idea articles states:

Two contestants from My Kitchen Rules have revealed that the show nearly destroyed their relationship.

Married couple Ann-Marie Battista and Nick Sharp, who took part in the cooking show against various other pairs from around Australia, said that filming it was one of the “hardest” times in their marriage.

Battista told New Idea magazine: “It definitely impacted on our relationship. Prior to the show, we liked being in the kitchen together. But now we take it one [day] at a time.

“Whatever doesn’t kill you makes you stronger. But yes, it’s up there with one of the hardest times in our relationship. I’m confident once it all passes we’ll be back to our happy and healthy selves.

“I didn’t like telling Nick what to do, and he didn’t like me telling him what to do. I guess I did do a bit of bossing. This wasn’t comfortable for either of us. It caused strain.”

Sharp added: “It was definitely an experience we won’t forget. I learnt that Ann-Marie is pretty fiery in the kitchen.”

If you had a fragile marriage don’t even think of going on a reality show together like My Kitchen Rules, or The Amazing Race. However Temptation Island could work.

Thanks @davisimp for sending me the article.

I was watching these two the other night, and the way they spoke to each other really reminded me of the chapter in Blink by Malcolm Gladwell where he talks about these body language/communication experts who can tell with a high degree of accuracy whether a relationship will last, just from a fairly short interview/observation. Ann Maree & Nick were displaying the various behaviours which in that research indicated a marriage would fail, it was really obvious to me. I hope that seeing the footage is a wake up call for them and they find new ways of communicating.

Ann Marie was like a T.Rex wearing an apron.

It’s My Kitchen Rules not I Rule My Kitchen.

The chocolate rissoto lady (Ann Maree) seems to be always on the verge, she can’t cope with pressure. I feel sorry for her husband, I think he tried to calm her down all the time. I hope they fixed their issues.
