Chrissie Swan Got Nominated For A Gold Logie – Reality Stars Rule

In the Daily Telegraph and other online sites there has been much teeth knashing about Chrissie Swan receiving a Gold Logie nomination for her role on a chat show The Circle.

Frankly I think they need to just deal with the rise of the reality TV star. Chrissie Swan resonates with a lot of viewers she is doing this on The Circle, and she also did this on Big Brother (before it jumped the shark).

Ok so The Circle only rates 70,000 but she would have fans from her Big Brother days, I am one and I have never seen The Circle, and I would have been prepared to flick her a vote. Also TV executives it might also be a sign that viewers want to see “real” women on our screens.

People need to realise reality TV is the second most watched genre on TV after sport, so it is not going to die as everyone keeps on predicting – Australian’s are addicted to it. This trend is reflected in the nominations of the other categories.

Most popular new female talent nominations, three of the five in the category are from a reality TV background. They are Julie Goodwin, Poh Ling Yeow, and Chrissie Swan. Chrissie also picked up a third nomination for Most Popular Presenter.

This trend was not seen in the most popular new male talent where only Manu Feildel got a nomination for his role on My Kitchen Rules. Go Manu.

And of course the category we really want to know about is Most Popular Reality TV Program are Dancing With The Stars, Masterchef Australia, The Biggest Loser Australia, The Farmer Wants A Wife, and The X Factor.

Interesting My Kitchen Rules did not get nominated, but I should get one next year. Anyway the winner will be …..Masterchef Australia.

I think My Kitchen Rules missed out on a nomination because even though it rates well, a large percentage of their fans are also MasterChef viewers and opted to vote there instead!

Yay, go Manu! And the similarity between sports and reality tv – competition. Aussie’s want ‘real’ entertainment it seems. Personally, I like to imagine eating all that food!

Reality TV snobs need to get the hell over themselves.

I love that we’re finally seeing the popularity of reality TV and it’s stars reflected in these award nominations.. Give me ‘real’, charismatic and entertaining people like Chrissie, Julie, Poh and Manu over any vacuous teenage himbo/bimbette from Home And Away anyday!

’tis also voted on by a minority of aust, so any nominations results may be somewhat biased…just a thought :)

chrissie is very good on the circle – it is actually quite watchable.

She is funny, not afraid to tell personal stories, and keeps things moving along.

It’s amazing what a French accent and copious use of the word sexy will do for you.

Don’t hate Manu because he’s beautiful, Wirstsemmel. :p

Agree with seepi that the Circle is a pretty good show.

What I can’t accept is that Karl Stefanovic is nominated for a Gold Logie.

I actually think Chrissie is quite often hysterical and the highlight of their show :), BUT the voters/voting is so selective and biased the whole event(Logies) is a bit of a joke these days…

We do like looking at all the dress ups tho :):)
