Top 50 Masterchef Contestants Unmasked

Channel Ten on their official Masterchef Australia website has revealed the Top 50 that will be launched on our TV screens tonight. Also the Herald Sun has them with their names on them.

Obviously different contestants will appeal to different people. Daniel Vaughan has caught my interest, but he is an accessories designer so he must have creative flair.

However as usual there are more attractive women then men. George and Gary must have some sort of hot chick clause in the contract. That they must make up 25 per cent of the contestants.

But before that maybe check out this interesting article in the SMH which outlines the audition process and an interview with the producer who talks about the changes for this year and how casting takes place.

Also here is an article in the Herald Sun which states there will be no taste test eliminations, and that the cook offs may not be against celebrity chefs, but a solid home cook. I predict former Masterchef contestants may appear in this.

Anyway go and check the top 50 out and tell me what you think, I have spotted the two food bloggers Mathew Beyer from Cooking With Goths also here is his twitter account, Β from and Billy Law from Table for Two. They are also saying you can support him with the hastag on twitter #teambilly. Also here is his twitter account, but as expect no tweets.

Also there is another foodblogger from Sydney Tanja Bingelli whose blog is I Heart My Food. She can also be found on twitter here. She is tweeting so I don’t think that bodes well for her longevity in the show….

Names are also coming out as well here are links to articles that reveal the contestants names:

  • Previous blog post with names from NSW and Qld.
  • Paul Lombadi a Perth fighter pilot is covered in Perth Now.
  • Jessica Nicholls who is UK/Australian and is taking a year off from Edinburgh Uni to be on the show. (Source: Gold Coast Bulletin)

There is probably more articles out there and I will drill down on the top 50 later.

I noticed this year there are more contestants in the over 40 age group. You will assume these contestants are not going to cry at the drop of a hat.

Just had a trawl through Goth boy’s blog. I like what I see. Hope he does well in it.

In my opinion, I found neither the men or women attractive. I’m quite disappointed :( That or the promo photos of them don’t do them justice!

Phylicia, I am hearing you. I am hoping some just took a bad pic.

Sorry, I must have dropped into the MasterBeautyContest thread by mistake. Perhaps one of you could point me to the MasterChef thread instead, where the ugly people are allowed to cook.

I have already added one member into my ‘I WILL SUPPORT’ crew; Alex, the guy who screwed up his meatballs but made an amazing dessert that was AWESOME. AWESOME ALEX I CHOOSE YOU!

Oh man Masterchef always makes me so excited πŸ˜€

I agree KC, I liked Alex the best from what I saw tonight. I missed some of the end though, he wasn’t eliminated was he?

Matt Preston is parting his hair on the opposite site this year and whacking more “product” in there. Awesome ,dude. That cravat is hiding bulbous reserves of lard, you haven’t called Jenny yet….or she’s not answering your calls. I think he just f***ed up at the Logies by declaring someone other than his wife “the most beautiful woman in the room”? Did I hear that right? Things haven’t been quite the same since I saw Julie Goodwin in an appalling green evening dress(glorified tarpaulin) a few minutes back.

We always knew Earhole Alex would get through because the teasers all week show him dropping a cake in a future episode. A Fremantle fail on the first night.

I don’t want to appear biased but Adelaide makes me proud every year with it’s contribution to reality TV. I was totally passionate about the purple Teletubby Dai getting through but that utterly desperate youth worker Andrew from Pt Lincoln looks highly strung. He was sweating like a pig already….and pigs can’t sweat.

Sorry,that ‘s a purple tarp Julie Goodwin’s wearing/busting out of.

Interesting. Approx 85% anglos, very few Asians. I guess that means we are going to be bombarded with the usual BORING French and Italian crap. Yawn. Why couldn’t they have one Asian judge to bring some sanity and variety? (or perhaps the memory of that GOD_AWFUL century egg is still on the judges sopissticated palates) (I spose the bigots won’t have a Joanne or Jimmy to whinge about this time round)

Yeh, I want a judge who appreciates asian food too, and I’m also sick of French & Italian. Classic maybe but boring.
