Masterchef Australia – Three Versus Adam D’Silva
I knew Sun had been a vegetarian up until recently but I was slightly surprised when she said she had only cooked pork twice before. I think her lack of cooking animal protein is going to trip her up later in the competition.
Sun, Craig and Peter faced off against Adam D’Silva from Coda. They also had a special guest judge which was Mark Jensen from Red Lantern, Sydney.
Dani obviously has a chef fetish, as she said she gushing “I love Mark Jensen, I freak out like a 13 year old girl seeing Justin Beiber for the first time.”
Do you think Dani is the new villain of the series?
Mark was quite cute in that herbal inner city type of way. I am sure he makes a good chai latte, but he looks pretty intense. His twitter profile at @markredlantern also suggests this. Anyone in their profile who puts eat less, exercise more shows that he is pretty dogmatic. I wonder if he told that to the Matt, George and Gary as God knows they could use that advice.
The challenge was for the three masterchef contestants to cook off against Adam.
They had to cook Crispy Noodle Salad with Pork, Coffin Bay Scallop with Tapioca, and Seared Ocean Trout with a Pepper Sauce.
Which meant one dish each to complete in the time frame. The prize if their plate was better than Adam’s they all win an immunity pin. However they were now having to rely on the other contestants to win that pin which I think was a disadvantage.
Rachel said she didn’t want them to win it, and why would you then there would be four immunity pins in play at the same time, as Hayden aka the gold child has already won them.
Peter could not get it together, he took 20 minutes to fillet the trout, and pin bone it badly. His hands shook the whole time he cooked it. He was having a bad day and when he finally got to the bottom the recipe he realised the pepper sauce that was accompanying it needed 20 minutes to reduce time he did not have. Lucky for him Adam D’Silva gave him some of his source.
Peter did gives us the best product placement moment of the episode when he ripped a Campbells stock packet open with his teeth.
However his trout dish was raw. Also Craig’s scallops was over cooked. Surprisingly Sun managed to cook the pork really well.
When judging Adam D’Silva’s plate it was described as “spectacular” but Matt Preston thought the pork was disappointing on his dish, as it was not as sticky. Pity for Sun she was not just going head to head with him on that dish.
The judges scored the Masterchef contestants all sevens, whilst they gave Adam D’Silva all nines. So no immunity pins.
Tomorrow night they off to Cronulla Beach, and just in case we didn’t see the preview Channel Ten have kindly sent out a press release with the headline “Hayden From Masterchef Strips Off”. I thought this was a cooking show not Jersey Shore.
