The Block Episode 3 – Tania and Rod versus Carrie and Chris
I am still trying to decide whether the publicity that IKEA is getting from being on The Block is a positive, as just about every nightmare scenario that many of us have been through has been shown except for the crowds.
There has been the getting to the warehouse after a few hours in the store and finding the product being out of stock, the fiddling of getting those flat pack furniture built, and then have some of it fall apart.
Tonight Carrie and Chris had the ultimate catastrophe they did not have all the boxes for their piece of furniture. It was unclear whether that was their fault as they had been running around IKEA in a fluster or if it was the stores.
Will tomorrow night have the final issue that can occur where the box actually has missing parts, and you have to go back and exchange it.
Tonight Tania and Rod went head to head against Carrie and Chris. Scott Cam gave exactly the same blurb as the previous nights, which makes me think the episodes are not sequential that they were shot and then NINE decided which ones they would show in what order this week.
Tania and Rod deserved to win just for their decision to take of the dodgy fireplace out. They decided the retro type lamp and the modern design did not go with the fireplace. I thought it was risky as they could have been criticised for not using the features of the room.
But theirs was a much better room and they were much better organised throughout the whole challenge. Rod stayed back and did the painting etc, and Tania went out shopping, and she got a great deal on a white leather lounge. Ok they did have the stress of a few delivery issues.
Whereas Carrie and Chris stuck together which meant they did have time issues. They wanted to something modern and classy, but with a $5000 budget it was a bit difficult. Nick Scali is not the place to shop on a limited budget, some nice pieces but…
Chris did some negotiation with the middle aged shop lady by giving her a hug to get another $100 off, and I wondered if he had offered some conjugals what sort of discount he would have achieved, she was loving the grope.
It was no surprise that Tania and Rod won, as their room was far superior to the younger couple. It looked warm and spacious, in fact I think it has been the best room done thus far.
