Emmy Nominations – Reality TV Related

The Emmy nominations are now out and there are only three categories I am interested in.

They are:

Outstanding Host For A Reality Or Reality-Competition Program
The Amazing Race • CBS
Phil Keoghan, Host

American Idol • FOX
Ryan Seacrest, Host

Dancing With The Stars • ABC
Tom Bergeron, Host

So You Think You Can Dance • FOX
Cat Deeley, Host

Survivor • CBS
Jeff Probst, Host

Outstanding Reality Program
Antiques Roadshow • PBS
Deadliest Catch • Discovery Channel
Hoarders • A&E
Kathy Griffin: My Life On The D-List • Bravo
MythBusters • Discovery Channel
Undercover Boss • CBS

Outstanding Reality-Competition Program
The Amazing Race • CBS
American Idol • FOX
Dancing With The Stars • ABC
Project Runway • Lifetime
So You Think You Can Dance • FOX
Top Chef • Bravo

Top Chef last year surprisingly won the best competition reality TV show. They are on Bravo a pay TV channel and have far less viewers then the other shows. But it was a worthy win.

Amazing Race all the way..

and how Kathy Griffin is on there is beyond me….her show was funny for a whole of 30 secs…

Meat and Potatoes should have been nominated for ORP. Hopefully it will be next year along with Bar Rescue.

Hopefully, Deadliest Catch wins.
I loves ’em sea dog shows.
To be honest Hornblower used to also get me almost as hard as this show does. And, no girls and boys, this wasn’t ’cause I carried secret man-torch thing for that spiffing young Ioan chappy.
Maybe me sea fetish is why Rick Stein shows are still worth vegging out to, provided he’s focussed on the ocean and seafood and not cupcakes and his latest shag.
Hoarders is a good, but one-dimensional concept, ruined by a crap ‘intervention’ team.
Given Top Chef would not be expected to win two years running, I don’t give a Flying Spaghetti Monster who wins the reality-comp category. I just wish they’d kill Idol off once and for all and leave the pop music industry to wallow in its mire and find the ‘next big, bland thing’ by having to sift through millions of mailed audition tapes and crap YouTube videos.
And why don’t they have a lifetime service award for reality TV prize?
I nominates Danny Bonaduce and Jonny Fairplay jointly, so they have to share a podium.

CB – great idea for the lifetime award. My only thoughts on why they haven’t may be that they don’t think reality TV has been a programming format for long enough to award that. Johnny Fairplay would be a great nominee. I’d nominate Mary-Ellis Bunim and Jonathan Murray.
