Masterchef Australia – Billy Bows Out
Thankfully the dessert they were cooking tonight was tricky and intricate otherwise the episode would have been dull considering the outcome of who went was known for a lot of the viewers (See spoiler blog post here). Also I will take this opportunity to pimp my appearance on ACA teeth gnashing about Billy’s tweet – see video here if interested.
Two things that irritated me tonight –
Did we really the drawn out will Ellie play her immunity pin scene? Really it was obvious she was going to play it and avoid the pressure test.
Also who wrote Gary and George’s lines for tonight? There were a couple of clangers in there. Gary boomed “Stressed served backward spells dessert, coincidence I don’t think so”. George also had a shocker with “Now it is time to rolly cannoli you have got 30 minutes to go”.
The big debate of the night is whether the flavour of the dish is more important then the look. Billy’s dish looked fantastic and Kate’s looked particularly unappetising.
Tonight they were cooking Autumn, by Katrina Kanetani who was the guest chef and judge tonight. She is a dessert chef owner at Satiate in Bangalow. Great publicity for her as she has just taken over the restaurant.
The dessert was made up of blackcurrent jelly, a plum mousse, cinamon and rose cannoli, white chocolate and peppermint power, and rhubarb.
Billy was lucky he had the Greek chorus from the balcony who reminded him to put ingredients in the dish. Michael reminded him to put cinnamon in his cannoli, and Dani yelled out as well to remind him to add three ingredients to the rhubarb. So who knows what other things he missed.
The judges were helping out a lot tonight. They hinted to Billy to re-do his lumpy jelly, and gave Kate advice about her cannoli dough, and her mousse.
Also did anyone else notice Gary Mehigan double dipping his finger into the mousse? Also Gary is not going to see a six pack again with his love for desserts, he wanted the whole cannoli.
Billy’s was judged first, and his presentation was praised, but his plum mousse had a weird texture and his jelly had no fruit flavour.
Kate’s dessert looked dreadful and I thought again have I been caught out by a furphy spoiler. However Katrina said all her components were nicely done.
In the end after finding about about Kate’s dream to open a B&B, Billy was eliminated.
He can now tweet and write on his blog unencumbered. He is also catering private dinner parties called ‘Just Desserts’. Michael and Hayden are the only two guys left, odds are a female will win this year.
