Masterchef Australia – The Final Four
Larry Emdur should have been guest judge on this episode of Masterchef Australia. He could have yelled “Alana – Come on down”.
But then you may have already knew that if you had been on the Masterchef website this afternoon. For the second time this season the official website has put up a yet to be screened episode on there. See this Herald Sun article complete with picture and all.
After five minutes of the show we found out that Dani was going to play her immunity pin. Since she did she managed to dodge the elimination challenge where Alana and Ellie had to fix a dish they had stuffed up in previous episodes, I did wonder which of the dishes of Dani’s the judges would have picked for her to re do.
Just to ensure the playing field was not even between Ellie and Alana tonight Alana had to cook two dishes in 45 minutes, and Ellie one dish in 70 minutes.
Alana had to fix her harissa lamb cutlets and fennel and orange salad, as first time around she had under cooked it, and also her poached pear as she had again she had under cooked it.
Ellie had to fix her dish from the Spanish invention test, which had been a disasterous stuffed capsicum. However one of the “rules” of tonight’s challenge was you don’t have actually cook the same dish again. They just had to cook something from the same box of ingredients they had received in the original challenge.
So Ellie fixed her capsicum dish by turning it into Spanish creme caramel, with orange ice cream.
Ellie also got some help from George about her dish. He asked her what she was cooking and when she said she was going to serve it with syrup he said she needed something fresh on the plate.
Pity neither of the judges thought to tell Alana that she should cut some of the fat off her lamb. Their policy for meat fat only extends to pork crackling.
Alana kept with her same dishes because she proabably did not have time to experiment.
Ellie was first to be judged.
Gary said the creme caramel looked perfect, and had a lovely texture, but it was a little bit eggy. Matt Preston said it was a beautiful dish.
Alana was criticised for the fat on the lamb saying it was not rendered enough, but she had cooked it perfectly. The judges also praised the pears.
It was no surprise when Ellie was eliminated. I did note George got hugged twice when she went to say goodbye, which George appeared to appreciate.
Ellie is doing work experience in Melbourne at the Rockpool Bar and Grill.
