The Renovators – The Person They Brought Back Was A Strategic Move
Does Kathy from the light blue team ever get enthusiastic over anything? When told they would have to design a piece of street furniture to display on the Southbank in Brisbane she said “Oh wow” but looked like she had been told that she would have to clean up dog poop and turn it into an art deco object d’art.
Natalia on the other hand was over the top excited, as a welder she knew it was her challenge to lose.
Jason a furniture designer was taking a different tactic. “I’m sick of talking myself up” he said. He wanted the pressure to be on Natalia. He did say at some point he wanted to win something. I would like to see more of Jason and his gibbering, as there appears to be a lot of inside jokes amongst the cast about him, but we are not seeing it.
The teams had five hours once they had designed the furniture item to have it made. The team that won got to pick a person to re-enter the competition and the house they would join.
Keenan designed the green teams seat and it was aesthetically pleasing and also practical as it could seat a large number of people.
Nathan just did a pretty normal park bench type chair, and painted it red. However guest judge designer Alexander Lotersztain didn’t like the colour. Nathan figured if the public were going to vote he wanted his seat to stand out.
Natalia’s chair was both artistic and practical. However my eyebrows did raise when she said ibises are iconic on Southbank. I must say I have never heard of iconic and ibises in the same sentence before. IT was a design of the ibis and frangapani.
Michael’s bench was rather interesting I am not sure how comfortable it would be. They did not get it fully finished as their bench was in the sand blasting room with the grey teams. Something Michael was not too happy about.
The light blue team had also done a bench with a tribute to the victims of the floods. Very clever but it did not help them win.
Peter’s table based on a bougainvillea was pretty but not very practical for the masses. It was very Alice in Wonderland.
Natalia’s team won by a landslide. They had twice the number of votes of the team that came second. Interestingly Fiona the fourth grey team member who left the show due to health issues was not there so this meant there was no obvious person for them to bring back.
They picked Sam, formerly of the inner city terrace, who is a hard worker but not a design talent. They put her on Peter’s team. The other members of the show looked slightly shocked by the grey team bring her back in. I think this indicates she is not seen as a tour de force, and tactically they brought back in someone innocuous who doesn’t have a chance in winning the show. So the grey team were being strategic.
Peter looked a bit non-plussed. He has nearly finished the house, and he would have preferred Lisa. Will she be an asset in challenges -probably not. He won’t be happy if he loses the key to her.
