Beauty And The Geek – Why Is This Show Goddamn Entertaining?

Beauty and Geek remains a mystery to me, it is a show in theory I think I will hate, but again last  night watching the first episode of series three I had quite a few laugh out loud moments.

Both the beauties and the geeks are likeable, ok some more than others. Jimmy and Lachlan are the star geeks at the moment, but who know who else will emerge as top geek.

A few thought from the episode:

  • In the pyjama party scene where the beauties walked in scantily clad every geek had a cushion around their nether regions;
  • However I am not sure what they did in the spa but hopefully none of the beauties were using Julian’s prescription goggles to dive under water;
  • Gaia described herself as a part-time Nanny would you let her look after your kids;
  • I liked the way they picked each other it was quite funny and pleasing that none of the girls were negative about the guys they selected;
  • Jimmy is very funny, and reminds me very much of Xenogene from season one of the show;
  • It was interesting the geeks reaction to a good looking guy in the house, as Jimmy said “It took him back to school”. Suddenly Jimmy wasn’t going to be the alpha male in the house or so he thinks. It will be interesting to see how all this plays out in the next few episodes;
  • Bendeguz who appears to be the most eccentric is not as entertaining as I thought he was going to be, but that could change once he feels more comfortable on camera;
  • The girls having to do that wipeout game with the food was hilarious, particularly that they had no idea about where pavlova or black forest cake was from;
  • Darlene and Nathan were the first to be eliminated.

Will Helen and a geek find romance? Will a beauty and a geek find romance?

If you want to know more about the beauty’s and the geeks check out this previous blog post here.

Ah Raver I was waiting for this post – see my nagging on The Renovators post.

Regarding the wood-hiding cushion trick, this was used to with great effect by Beavis & Butthead in the classic episode ‘Top of the Mountain’, where our entrepid shorts-wearing grade-school nerds go to the hairdressers, get a scalp massage and BO-OI-OI-OI-OI-NG, the rest is cartoon history. (C’mon MTV!! Weren’t you rumoured to be bringing B&B back. Or has Snooky and them jersey shore greaseballs sent you broke?)

Bendeguz needed to ride a camel on to set and production surely must give him a riding crop as a prop. Gaia is the dimmest ‘beauty’ for some time based on last night’s performance and laughs like a braying donkey. Giving the dearth of decent comedy on tele at the moment this show provided a number of laughs (intended and unintended).

But, why are beards somehow considered geeky? *strokes beard, brows furrowed*

That tiebreaker “closest to” question was so blatantly unfair – the second geek had a huge advantage once he knew the first one’s guess. Can’t really blame him as he was smart enough to just add one, but the situation should have never arisen. Surely they could have written their answers and revealed them at the same time? Shame, as Nathan and Darlene seemed like they would’ve been an interesting pair. There’s going to be tension in that shared room now.

The beauties “aaaaaw”-ing every time a geek appeared during the introductions really stayed to annoy me – they’re not puppies or kittens, girls.

What soft porn producer came up with the challenges? Firstly, get the girls in bikinis followed by them sliding around in oil. I don’t recall the previous seasons being quite so exploitative. Having said that, I’ll shut up as soon as they oil up the musclebound himbo.

I’m prepared to bet a beauty will find romance – the boy beauty and any one of the girls.

I think the geek girl might be in with a hot chance too – the geek guys all seemed to think she was a bit of all right.

they have had dodgy challenges int he past – there was one in a mud pit.

I was so sad that couple left- they seemed like one of the more interesting ones – and now that poor guy is only on telly wearing his super hero suit, and then crying about going home – poor thing.

As for the pair who nominated their room mates – perhaps they just wanted the whole room – but very poor move – surely they could have found someone else to nominate.

This show seems so dodgy, but it just works. The presenter is quite good, the mansion is nice, they move the action along and dont’ do any boring recaps, and it is quite watchable.

Actually I think it is quite heartwarming how people come out of themselves when put in a different enviromnet with people who are different to their current social circle.

I think they edit well and they don’t take the piss out of the geeks, they are like the heros of the show.

I thought sarah’s fake capped teeth were going to choke her, they were so big- they took over half her face and made her speak badly- reminded me of Jodi Gordon’s fake teeth and monster mouth ! :)

The weird moustache guy seems so over the top it is almost like he is a caricature of a nerd/mad scientist!

still, it was largely enjoyable to watch- I must have no taste!!! lol

Credit to Ch 7 for encoring this at lunchtime today. It’s kind of cruel but highly entertaining and at times educational ie I thought Pavlovas were from NZ and didn’t know $3,ooo boob jobs could be had in Thailand. It’s hard to imagine a euphonium player getting through the culls on XFactor ,too.

Beards are not geeky but they give them something to shave off and change their appearance for the makeover episode. Same goes for wild and woolly hair.
