The X Factor – Party Anthems

I must confess when I heard it was going to be party anthems on The X Factor I assumed it would be get up and dance type of music. The only act that made me want to do that was Three Wishez. That is not saying some of the other acts were not entertaining.

Audio Vixen – Valerie by The Zutons

Again their vocals were flawless, but contrary to most of the population I keep on getting the Wedding Singer vibe from this act. They are pimping the slimmer sister over the brother and Christina, however all are very talented.

The judges loved it and Mel B said their harmonies were flawless.

Declan – I Write Sins Not Tragedies by Panic At The Disco

Declan is the dark horse to take out this competition, I know it is all about Reece and Christina at the moment, however his performances are always fun to watch and his vocals are stronger then expected.

However the downside is whoever did his make up with the creepy barb wire mouth deserves to be sacked. Or the person who suggested it. He really did not need to look like a young Alice Cooper.

Jacquie – Heaven Is A Place On Earth – Belinda Carlisle

Mel B dressed her as the sixth spice girl – slutty spice. She did look good, however her vocals were really weak, not sure if this was all the choreography.

I did laugh at Nat Bass’s bitch slap at Mel B querying whether “if Belinda Carlisle is dirty rock, I don’t get it”.

Mitchell – All Summer Long by Kid Rock

This guy always looks nervous. The vocals were fine however not the most memorable performance of the night. Miss 7 wanted to vote for him because she liked the song, thankfully not because of the tatts.

Young Men Society – You Shook Me All Night Long by ACDC

This was fantastic, great song and really well done. These guys will be in for the long haul. Guy Sebastian is a strong mentor.

Reece – I Kissed A Girl by Katie Perry

There is a lot of love for this guy and he has stage presence, but I thought it was one of his weaker vocal performances. None of the judges commented on this. Just “you are star” etc etc.

Both he and the dancer enjoyed the kiss at the end. Thankfully there did not appear to be tongue.

Tyla – The Edge by Lady Gaga

Tyla’s vampy persona could get a bit repetitive in a few weeks. It started with a jazz vibe, amped up and then went back to jazz. Guy Sebastian was right when he said he thought it went nowhere.

Andrew – I Want To Break Free by Queen

If it was the loveable factor he would win. He is a sweetie with a great story to be told, can he go from peanut salesman to international superstar? Unfortunately I don’t think this is the type of person Simon Cowell wants to win the competition.

His voice is good but it is not unique.

Johnny – Down by Jay Sean

Hooray the vocals were stronger and the dancing was pretty funky,  but he is in Declan and Reece’s slipstream. The girl vote will keep him in for awhile but not to win.

Three Wishez – Don’t Stop The Music by Rhianna

This was the performance that made me want to get up and dance. However the judges criticised that the girl singer was more out front and the boys were more backup singers. I note they don’t say the same thing about audio vixen.

Christina – Girls Just Want To Have Fun – Cyndi Lauper

Christina has the styling gods on her side as she looked cute and a little bit rock chick sexy. Again like Reece her she has good on stage presence but thought when she was spraying the cans of crazy foam her voice went all over the place. Not that it matters as this girl will be safe.

The judges kept on hinting at the Reece and Christina romance.

Prediction for bottom two – Jacqui and Andrew.

Who do you think will get eliminated tonight?

I think Jacqui and Tyla, to be honest.

Re: Three Wishez – the problem they face is that they still seem like three singers who just happen to be on the same stage. There is a lack of cohesion between them as a group, and that is Ronan’s fault for not noticing.

The front girl is being pushed as the main singer, which she should be, but it seems like the other two are being forgotten about and not being utilized to their fullest potential. Which tends to let the group down as a whole.

It also doesn’t help that the choreography always tends to have the group separated and rarely together. Just leads to the impression of a lacking within the group structure.

Which is a shame, because I really do like Three Wishez and I think they could be there until the end.

As for the rest of the field – I must either be out of date, or not up with what’s “hip” for parties because they weren’t party anthems. :\

Plus, re: Jono. My ears must have been broken ’cause I didn’t hear or see any improvement?

Overall, though: last night was a slight let-down and missed the mark in terms of the competition. Only a few I would consider actually hit the goal of “being good”.

Still enjoyable though… 😀

Pretty much agree with what you wrote, Reality-Raver..
But, i actually think that the song which Australia chose for andrew suited his vocal capcity.. and he actually performed better than the week before.

Tyla – What a disappointment. Lucky for her, Australia voted and gave her a pop-like party anthem. I expected her to use that as a key advantage over the other contestants… but bottom line, she failed.

Yer, I agree with Kaylen, Tyla and Jacqui were my bottom 2. However, Channel7 probs wouldnt want this to happen… But if it does happen it will be interesting to see! Given that Mel B always talks her girls up and slams everyone down.. now she’ll have to choose one over the other… Her “surprise package” (Jacqui) or Vampy Tyla

However, i still dont get the bit where “Australia voted” for each of the finalist to sing a party anthem.. and yet, Guy and Mel at some point during the show said that they chose the song for the contestant. Technically, they couldnt have directly “chosen” as Australia “voted”.

The lasers and lights are awesome but a good share of the contestants are out of tune a lot and it’s hard to disguise. They’re party anthems alright- for a dead party.

Blandrew ought to go. Freddie Mercury would be doing pirouettes in his grave after that schmaltz.

Small point Reality- Raver you praise Guy Sebastian for being a strong mentor in your review of Young Man Society – they aren’t in his group! So the praise should go to Ronan for that one I think.

Kaylen and Sheng_huang – props to both of you for picking bottom two. The recap is coming

Um I think my definition of a party anthem is somewhat different, I’m thinking Bon Jovi, Jackson 5, B52’s. Katy Perry and Lady Gaga yes but I probably wouldnt have chosen those songs. Oh well, maybe I’m old fashioned.

The lame party anthems make me very twitchy about next week because the theme will be “Rock”.
I’m expecting Mitchell Callaway to stick with what he knows and do “Jailbreak”.
