First Eliminations From The Top 20 Tonight on Junior Masterchef

Tonight the children were killing lobsters and I did wonder if by the end of the series these mini chefs would have to kill a sheep and butcher it.

It was an elimination challenge tonight with eight of the top 20 in a cook off for Junior Masterchef survival.

The first challenge was for the kids to cook the perfect roast in one hour which is not much time considering the prep they had to do as well.

Alysha and Tom were judged to have done the best in that round and were safe. Both had cooked a version of roast chicken.

The second challenge was to cook guest judge’s Lobster Risotto with chanterelles and truffles. Interesting that the kids had to pick the lobsters off the ice and shove them into boiling water. It did surprise me.

Zac even though he poured all his stock onto the rice at once was judged to have a top two dish, as was Marcus. They were both safe.

Therefore Aya, Caroline, Hannah and Jade were eliminated.

Boycott junior Masterchef for the sake of the children. If ratings drop they’ll stop making it. How can stressed children performing under pressure be entertaiment?

I worried about the killing lobster thing too. I really enjoyed this series last year, but not so much this year. I don’t know if it’s because the kids aren’t quite as appealing or because I feel a faint waft of child exploitation this year. I do have a soft spot for Alysha though.

I thought the lobsters were already dead. But I didn’t really look that closely TBH. That bit seemed to go pretty quickly anyway. And they were in ice so presumably not moving or anything.

And yeah, I have to agree that this series just doesn’t seem as good and there are too many kids who annoy me and not enough who I really like, lol. I don’t even watch the Monday show anymore, and only watch on Sunday because nothing else is on.

One thing I like about junior masterchef, is the clips where they talk about what happened. I krnow that’e one of least favourite parts for most people in regular mastercehf, and any other reality show, buts its really natural for the kids, because that’s how they usually recount their days.

At least they didn’t send them on their way via incineration with a magnifying glass, like boys of my generation did to ants and other creepy crawlies.
Though on second thoughts…cooking with a magnifying glass and the sun…hmmm… could this be the new foodie craze to beat sous vide and edible ‘earth’?
It’s certainly carbonisation in a carbon neutral manner.
Hey Shine, there’s an idea for next year’s eco-challenge.
