If You Have Just Survived Dance Recital Season – You May Want To Watch Dance Mom’s

Most people who have had daughters have at some stage have had them in dance lessons and this means end of year concerts. This means Dance Moms are out in force thinking their little darling is going to be the next big thing.

This can result in things getting pretty tense in the dressing rooms. I have just come through this year’s annual stressfest, where I managed to hiss at one poor mum “No you put the ballet tights over the shimmer tights….” however my dance mom credentials soon crashed with a slow costume change and Miss 7 having to run onto stage late. You can imagine THAT is going to be brought up in therapy when she is older.

Anyway Dance Moms the reality TV show starts on Lifestyle You tonight at 9.30pm and it looks like a cracker. This is series one it had been on E! and it has created a lot of controversy online.

Here is the blurb from the official site about what it is about or for a quick look see check out the clip above:

Featuring infamous dance instructor Abby Lee Miller, her world-class students and their mothers, “Dance Moms” will take its long-awaited leap back into the world of competitive dance.

It is set in Pittsburgh’s renowned Abby Lee Dance Company, owned and operated by the notoriously demanding and passionate Miller, “Dance Moms” follows children’s early steps on the road to stardom and their doting mothers who are there for every rehearsal, performance and bow…all under Miller’s discerning eyes. The show immerses itself in the highs and lows surrounding dance competition season, delivering a captivating and dramatic look at the cast’s intense pursuit of National Dance titles.

Centered on the devoted Miller, who runs her school with an iron tap shoe as she instructs her young, talented students while also dealing with impassioned mothers who go to great lengths to help their children’s dreams come true, “Dance Moms” will continue to pose the tough questions many people have been asking since the show’s launch about what really goes on behind-the-scenes in the fast-growing and controversial sport of competitive dance.

“Dance Moms” uniquely captures the outrageous and dynamic interplay among teacher, student and parent as Miller commits herself to bring out the best in her students – and their mothers – willing to dedicate themselves to be part of one of the best dance teams in the nation. Constantly on edge from Miller’s strict discipline and at times harsh “my way or the highway” style of teaching, her students and their mothers are pushed to the limit emotionally, physically, socially and, in some cases, financially as they tirelessly rehearse every day and travel for weekly dance competitions throughout the U.S. Some students and mothers buy into Miller’s methods, while others crack under the pressure as they all battle each other for her attention.

Dance Moms premieres on Lifestyle You tonight at 9.30pm.

I flipped to this show in between watching Hillbilly Handfishin’!!!!
I must say if I had a choice on what fun activity to get one of my daughters involved in I’d rather her tackle a giant catfish with a couple of hairy middle aged guys in America who have a grand old time camping and fishing, rather than have her bawl her eyes out in some dance comp where she just gets criticised all day long! I had to stop watching Dance Moms, it was making me angry!

Izobel2 – I have to check out Hillybilly Handfishin’ – who thinks of these shows????
It was interesting the mums trying to live through their daughters. I was conflicted by it. If the kids are a success and happy later on they will be happy about being pushed, but otherwise they could end up hating their mothers.

The example of the white tiger mum.

RR – Who knows who thinks of these shows??!!! There are shows for everything these days, like Ice Road Truckers and Swamp Loggers and Coal and a billion other shows I don’t watch (mind you on your latest poll there are only 3 I didn’t tick so I guess they keep making shows as we keep watching them!)
You’re right if the kids are happy and end up on Broadway then it’s all good, but probably about 1% do and the rest just end up being on 16 & Pregnant or My Big Fat Gypsy Wedding!
