The Biggest Loser To Premier On Monday Jan 23 at 7.00pm

It is going to be reality wars as Network Ten have decided to take on Channel Nine in the 7.00pm timeslot with news The Biggest Loser will premier at that time on the Monday 23 January.

Obviously they want to drag the viewer  in early to get involved in the series before Excess Baggage kicks off a few weeks later.

Network Ten would want to ensure the first two weeks episodes are crackers because there is a lot of interest in Excess Baggage – A Celebrity weight loss show with some big personalities on it.

Or ensure there is some romance going on in the now all singles loser households. Thankfully it has not morphed into Big Brother and there are no webcams in the bedrooms.

More on The Biggest Loser contestants later.

The Biggest Loser – Singles to premiere on Monday 23 January at 7.00pm.

1 Paul { 01.11.12 at 9:35 am }

I’ll make a prediction here.

Biggest Loser – Singles will be a big hit and Excess Baggage will be a major flop.

2 John { 01.11.12 at 10:03 am }

My prediction – Excess Baggage is going to be a huge hit for 9 and this will be the last season of Biggest Loser after it is flogged in the weight loss war

3 Culinary Boner { 01.11.12 at 10:37 am }

I rooting for Excess Baggage (and Ajay).

Biggest Loser’s format is tired to the point of coma in my opinion, and Michelle Spirulina Bridges, Felicity Tantric Yoga Scrawnbag, Bogan Tatts Rats-tail and Sargeant Buzzcut Sixpack annoy the shit out of me. As does Hayley Can’t Remember What The Hell She Was Famous For.

Darren Lyons will use The Force to become an early contender for reality TV dirtbag of 2012.

4 Georgie { 01.11.12 at 10:54 am }

I’ll put my money on Excess Baggage. I’ve never watched any of the ‘fat, sweaty, struggle’ shows before but after Celebrity Apprentice I think I’d enjoy the ‘personality’ antics of Excess Baggage.

5 Reality Raver { 01.11.12 at 11:32 am }

Paul – Interesting, we will know if you are correct in a few weeks. By Loser being moved to 7.00pm it certainly is going to make it a bit more difficult for them.

Culinary Boner – I had forgotten about Commando’s six pack, certainly makes me more interested.

Georgie – fresh format, celebs, transformations, and real people with real stories, Excess Baggage has it all.

6 Culinary Boner { 01.11.12 at 11:41 am }

Yeah Raver, perhaps I’m just jealous as the only six-pack I’m carrying is my hands when at Dan Murphy’s car park. He still shits me though, but not as much as Michelle and Rats-tail.

7 TVtragic { 01.11.12 at 11:58 am }

Biggest Loser all the way. What a load of crap excess baggage looks like, I totally get that its designed to be a shock jock style of show, but i’d rather rub glass in my eyes than whatch that tragey that is AJ. frankly i think Biggest Loser is some of the best tv of this kind around.

8 Reality Raver { 01.11.12 at 12:33 pm }

TVTragic – What The Biggest Loser has going for it is that the people on there are not one there for fame, ongoing media careers, or even the money (except when it gets close to the pointy end) they are one there because they are desperate to lose weight. So real people. Why else would you do it?

9 TVtragic { 01.11.12 at 12:51 pm }

hey raver, totally agree with you. real people, changing their lives, thats exactly why I like Loser. I’m sick of D grade celebs like in excess and thier last ditch effort at fame. blah.

10 Paul { 01.11.12 at 12:52 pm }

I like what Ten are doing with their promos for The Biggest Loser this year. The contestants seem fairly interesting and they seem to have taken the focus off the hosts and trainers.

I also like the ‘Singles’ edge they’ve given it this season. Love stories on reality shows hardly ever miss.

As for Excess Baggage, the way I see it, is that all their celebrities just don’t have any wow factor with the one exception being Darren Lyons who looks quite interesting.

And their promos have been woeful. All have been terribly scripted and the campaign has dragged on for far too long.

11 Reality Raver { 01.11.12 at 1:00 pm }

TV Tragic and Paul – I think the higher profile cast mates like Ajay and Darren are sucking up air time at the moment, however I am interested in seeing some of the other celebs pop. I think Gabby Milgate is going to be very entertaining, like the Julia Morris of the series. Also Christine Anu could be good, though she does not look like she has that much weight to lose. And physical transformations are what I want to see.

12 Culinary Boner { 01.11.12 at 1:12 pm }

As I subscribe to the “reality TV = porn for misanthropes” school of TV viewing, I prefer to watch D-list celebs making arses of themselves over everyday plonkers any time. Thus, it’ll be Excess Baggage for me. Oh, did I mention that Ajay gives me the horn.

13 Nicole { 01.11.12 at 1:23 pm }

Along with Drop dead dave, CB always makes me laugh out loud. R u a stand up comedian or something?? Im also team EB mostly for the novelty factor. Im so over BL, especially the trainers who think they’re psychologists with their counselling sessions over the treadmill. I dont want to hear anymore red or blue teams grunting and sweating and becoming better people so that they can go off and save the world. Maybe EB can provide some humour, something different. But i think BL has a pretty loyal following.

14 Culinary Boner { 01.11.12 at 1:35 pm }

I only do ‘sit down’

15 Nicole { 01.11.12 at 3:07 pm }

I will probably regret asking but what does culinary boner mean exactly?

16 Culinary Boner { 01.11.12 at 4:07 pm }

It was a catchphrase from my favourite reality show – Top Chef – during season 4 (2008) and coined by one of that season’s 3 amigos*, Andrew D’Ambrosi. Andrew famously said – in response to an exciting cooking challenge – “I have a culinary boner right now”. There’s even a t-shirt –

* the ‘three amigos’ also included Spike Mendelson (who has a really good gourmet burger joint in Washignton DC that I’ve been lucky enough to eat at) and a stoner-riffic New Zealand chef called Mark Simmons (who seems to a clean up his image and is still cooking in New York –
The amigos got a fratboy, bromance thing going in the Top Chef house, drinking plenty of beers and even having bubble baths together to the raised eyebrows of judges Padma Lakshmi and Tom Colicchio.

17 brain dead dave { 01.11.12 at 4:13 pm }

I’m going to watch BL again. I miss Nollsy’s jingle, too.

This years’s love ‘n lard theme will make for some pretty tragic television. So far as I’m aware many addiction recovery programs advise against starting relationships while in treatment.

The Biggest Loser is a a cruel,exploitative show and this early showing is definitely trying to get the jump on Excess Baggage. I’ll try to watch both.

18 Reality Raver { 01.11.12 at 4:18 pm }

CB – thanks for responding to Nicole, I was searching on YouTube for the iconic clip, but the search term culinary boner meant there were some ugly clips coming up so had to hop off.

BDD – Of course I will try and watch both, but for most viewers two weight loss shows in a evening is too much. My theory is the average person can only watch two reality shows a night. My Kitchen Rules will be the winner here.

19 Culinary Boner { 01.11.12 at 4:21 pm }

Raver, I think you’ll the non-Top Chef google definition of ‘culinary boner’ involves items that can double as fishing rods.

20 Nicole { 01.11.12 at 4:44 pm }

Thanks for clearing that up! I have never seen top chef. Wonder why there is no aus version? I get confused with top chef, iron chef, masterchef, etc. if i remember iron chef bombed here? Sorry to go off topic rr!

21 Culinary Boner { 01.11.12 at 5:06 pm }

Nicole, I believe there is no Aussie Top Chef because we just have the number of talented second-string sous chefs to sustain more than one series, unfortunately.

22 Culinary Boner { 01.11.12 at 5:07 pm }

should read “just don’t” above

23 Kirsten { 01.12.12 at 8:54 am }

I vote for real people losing weight – esp single people – over has been celebs every time!

24 Rob { 01.12.12 at 5:43 pm }

EB is TBL not taking itself so seriously.

25 jo { 01.14.12 at 1:21 pm }

i’m so happy the biggest loser has lost the couples/family angle….i completely lost interest….let them all fight for themselves like the original concept, i can’t believe they had the couples and families for so many seasons. I’ll probably watch it again this season. And having the individuals as singles makes it even more interesting…smart move

26 Andrea { 01.14.12 at 8:49 pm }

I agree with you Jo, I hated the couples/family series. It should be really interesting this year, watching the singles form friendships and just concentrating on themselves instead of doing everything as a team, getting back to basics is the best thing. Also I would like to see everyone stay until the end as its good to see all their journeys and whoever loses the most weight wins.
