The Biggest Loser – Are They Allowed To Eat At All?

Last night the teams were locked in a room with temptation for twelve hours, and the thing that got me was that the teams thought they should not eat. Something the trainers see as a positive thing.

If you have allotted calories left over in the day, why not consume them, cheese and crackers are not that bad. Nor could they be worse then having your body go into starvation mode. To be cheered for not giving into ‘temptation’ and not eating over that long period I thought sent out the wrong messages.

The black and red team did not partake at all.

However the young boys team did give in eating nearly 3000 calories between them, with Ryan appearing to be the one manipulating his team mates into it. The viewer has to wait until tonight to see if the white team of the young girls also decided to go for team immunity.

Also Tiffiny Hall fan site has Tiffiny doing a weekly blog post for them, and in this weeks blog she hints at a romance between Michelle and Hamish. Personally I am calling bollocks on that one, as I just can’t see Hamish in the Casanova role at the moment, but then stranger couples have been known.

There is too much crying on TBL. They keep repeating their sob stories. Maybe the criteria for TBL is that you must cry at the drop of a hat.

At this moment the Over 30’s teams are more discipline and they work as a team. Can’t say the same for the Under 30’s teams.

This challenge is merely the tip of the iceberg as far as inappropriate health tips go. As for Hamish and Michelle – eww! I’ve never seen a softer piece of fluff than Hamish. That boy is a sooky little mama’s boy and if he thinks it’s only fat that’s prevented him from losing his virginity, he’s in for a rude shock. And I know he can’t help the man boobs, but I’ve got to avert my eyes when it’s his time to disrobe and weigh in.

3 Lebay { 02.09.12 at 8:48 am }

This show is not about sustainable weight loss. Its about letting people feel better about themselves by laughing at people fatter than they are. Its about people laughing as the fatties starve, because after all, they deserve it. I work in an office full of women who spend their time doing just that, and personally it makes me sick.
Other than Adro, is there any contestant that has mananged to maintain the weight loss??

4 littlepetal { 02.09.12 at 9:04 am }

Lebay – I think there are a few but also many have put the weight back on. Bob, Sharif, Sam, Bob’s daughter in law have maintained their weight.

Starving is the worst. Your body will grab on any food that you eat for survival and you will put on more weight.

5 Anonymous { 02.09.12 at 9:18 am }

Adro has kept it off.

They were hardly going to to go into starvation mode in twelve hourse, some of which was into or overnight!

The point of not eating anything, regardless of whether they’d used up all their day’s allotted calories was shown by what happened to the blue team – once you start with that sort of food, even a comparatively healthy snack like cheese and crackers, you can’t necessarily stop. Especially bingers. I doubt any of these contestants got that heavy just by eating the odd cheese sandwich too many in their otherwise pristine diet.

Good point about Billy Bunter* (Hamish) smauge…he makes that man-sized teddy bear in them Cornetto ads look hard as an ex-con with a gym addiction.

Any chick up for some rumpy-pumpy with Hamish would have to be a card-carrying member of the extreme fringe of the Chubby Chaser Movement.

Anonymous – Maybe the binge eaters need help other than to shove them into a room with cameras and food where they will be shamed if they eat. Its just not right and will cause more overeating when they are away from the house and the cameras.

8 Brad { 02.09.12 at 10:04 am }

The reason why not eating at all was the better decision is that once they started eating the worry was tht they wouldn’t stop! We saw evidence of that with Hamish who moved on from cheese and crackers to a mars bar etc. These people have serious problems with eating and going cold turkey on the bad food is really the only option.

9 Anonymous { 02.09.12 at 10:08 am }

LeBay – it’s Temptation – the game show part of the show. The idea is not to take temptation. As Brad said above, better to go cold turkey.

I know plenty of empty people watch this show to laugh. I watch it because I feel for these people, this year especially, and have had my own struggles.

10 brain dead dave { 02.09.12 at 12:31 pm }

What is this? Oprah.com?

The fatties literally roll up every year,with the same sob/slob stories and roll the dice on a cheeseball reality show that has ritualized their humiliaton.They are two time losers for that … morbidly fat and not very bright.

The fatties commenting here want to blame viewers. Typical. You can eat cake.

11 Georgie { 02.09.12 at 12:44 pm }

Lmao with tears bdd.

12 Anonymous { 02.09.12 at 12:49 pm }

“the fatties commenting here”…. are who?

My struggles were with class A drugs.

13 brain dead dave { 02.09.12 at 1:06 pm }

Yawn. Save it for Narcotics Anonymous,then.

14 Anonymous { 02.09.12 at 1:10 pm }

Wow, you are as empty and despicable as you seem, you sad old sad-cunt, pumping up your flabby ego droning on with your contempt for the rest of humanity here, and worst thing is you are applauded.

15 brain dead dave { 02.09.12 at 1:14 pm }

You’ve just shown why you haven’t got the guts to give yourself a name.

Well done.

16 Rosie { 02.09.12 at 1:42 pm }

*Tip-toeing in rather carefully*

On this matter, I have to agree with Ms/s Anonymous.

*Carefully backs out*

17 brain dead dave { 02.09.12 at 2:13 pm }

It’s a free country. Even foul-mouthed ,cowardly cretins need support.

18 littlepetal { 02.09.12 at 2:27 pm }

We are not talking about not eating for 12 hours. It’s the 1200cals per day. It’s too low for these obese people. They are doing many hours of exercises already and they need fuel to exercise at a higher intensity.

19 Reality Raver { 02.09.12 at 3:22 pm }

Anon – Yes BDD can be polarising and pushes the boundaries at times however he contributes a lot to this blog and his humour does appeal to some of the other readers. Calling him a cunt was probably a step too far, however he should had shown some sensitivity to your revealing your struggle with Class A drugs. By the way I hope you are conquering it. As you know sometimes with addictions cold turkey is the way to go.

However I am going to be a hypocrite here, on an excess baggage blog post I was critical of Joanna’s view about moderation. That is fine for some but not for people with food addiction. I will own up to not being able to eat just one piece of chocolate , so I now rarely have it in the house as I will just inhale it. But the whole having them in a room where the aim was to eat nothing as the main aim was silly. If the contestants had eaten the cheese and crackers when they started feeling hungry maybe they may have been able to stop. Not wait until they were starving.

BDD – I have to be honest I don’t watch the show to laugh at them. For someone like Brenda this was obviously a cry for desperation. Who would unveil on TV like they have to do if you were not truly wanting help. I don’t see Ryan sustaining weight loss – I hope they deal with the emotional issues which allegedly they do.

20 Reality Raver { 02.09.12 at 3:22 pm }

Oh Anon and BDD if you can’t get on can you just ignore each other???

21 smauge { 02.09.12 at 3:27 pm }

I think they both like fishing RR πŸ˜‰

22 Mrs T { 02.09.12 at 3:36 pm }

I tend to agree that TBL doesnt necessarily set the contestants up for sustainable weight loss. However there is a point where people need to take responsibility for where they are in life and I believe that the show does address that as an issue. they can take it on board or go to A Current Affair afterwards and complain that they weren’t supported enough after the show.
I agree Hamish does need to toughen up a little, but like RR I don’t watch the show to “laugh at the fatties” there are a few moments of hilarity but for the most part I feel for them.
I agree with Smauge, but I don’t think fishing and name calling is necessary in this forum.

23 Anonymous { 02.09.12 at 3:38 pm }

I wrote intemperately, I was not trying to ‘bait’ anyone – I expect that is what you are insinuating, smauge?

RR – ‘sad-cunt’ was perhaps a little unkind

The reason so many people are currently posting as Anonymous is the second they pipe up with anything that isn’t toeing the current party line (of a small group who apparently own all the opinions allowed here) they are leapt on.

24 brain dead dave { 02.09.12 at 3:55 pm }

“The reason so many people are currently posting as Anonymous is the second they pipe up with anything that isn’t toeing the current party line (of a small group who apparently own all the opinions allowed here) they are leapt on.”

That’s paranoid rubbish. Prove it– with examples. How on earth would you know how many people are posting as Anonymous?

I was a heroin addict for five years and never felt the need to publish it here- anonymously or otherwise. Frankly, I dont give a shit about anonymous claims.

25 Culinary Boner { 02.09.12 at 3:58 pm }

Being of the reality TV is ‘porn for misanthropes’ school of thought I watch this crappily formulaic show to have an effing good laugh.

Though mainly I’m laughing at the lame milking-the-emotions production, Hayley’s diction, the absurd physical challenges* and especially the dumb-as, self-regarding personal trainers – esp. Tiffiny and her trout pout, but probably not Commando who seems to have things in more perspective than the others because he may have once had a real job**. Occasionally I laugh at the fatties. But mostly I pity them.

* Having guys who’d be puffing their way to a coronary whilst pulling their knobs, instead pulling a mid-sized Sydney ferry. Super stuff. Though they should have had them in replica Viking longboats for better visuals followed by a ‘mead temptation’ challenge. (Oh and an Ikea ad tie-in).

** Even though I detest him because of the way Mrs Boner drills her posterior into the couch whilst she’s looking at him and his 6-pack. (She thinks I don’t notice, but guys are alert to these things). Though, to be fair, in past seasons I did have to reach for a cushion because Ajay gave me the horn.

26 littlepetal { 02.09.12 at 4:27 pm }

You are funny, CB. Get over Ajay.

27 brain dead dave { 02.09.12 at 4:28 pm }

RR, I don’t think I’ve ever written that I watch TBL in order to laugh at the fatties. However I think they’re fair game for ridicule and mirth for going on such an exploitative show when a simple consultation with a physician would have made them aware that weight loss regimes that ask for more than 1 kilo a week loss are not healthy. This is not a great mystery.

I merely enjoy train wreck television and the deluded participants who lust after their photo being in New Idea.

28 Georgie { 02.09.12 at 6:29 pm }

The truth is there are very few people who have not had or are not having some sort of struggle in their lives – me included.

My heart broke as I watched my eldest daughter go through 10 years of hell with heroin addication. I’ve battled depression and a gambling habit for the last decade. Everyone has got a story.

The best way to overcome adversity and find peace and happiness is to not take yourself so seriously – learn to laugh at yourself and your weaknesses because you’re in good company.

I’ve never watched TBL so I’m not laughing at them or their struggle but I do laugh at brain dead dave’s irreverence. With his declaration today I can now understand where his sense of humour comes from – his own struggle.

Lighten up and enjoy your journey. We’re all waiting in the same queue.

29 Andrea { 02.09.12 at 6:47 pm }

RR, I know Im on my own here but I think you should monitor this more closely and not allow the use of the’ F’ and particularly the’ C’ word from ” Anonymous” and” yourself” as I find it highly offensive and unneccessary for everyone to turn on each other instead of what we are meant to be doing which is giving our fair opinions on the reality shows that we watch. this is why I look at this blog as I like to read about the shows and what others think. My opinion may not be the same as BDD or CB for example but I respect everyone here and have the courage to use my real name, unlike the anonymous people out there who feel the need to use foul language.

30 Reality Raver { 02.09.12 at 8:57 pm }

BDD – As you know you are a valued part of this blogs community, and as you know you have quite a few fans here and some foes. I’m sure you and Paul will be debating each other again when Masterchef is on…

Anonymous – Everyone should feel welcome on this blog and their views should be listened too respectfully. As I have written before debate the opinion not the person. However inevitably once every few months the comment section does flare up.
I will keep a closer eye on the comments to ensure the debate is robust but respectful. Also when I have the time I will put up a comment policy.

Andrea – Point taken about the swearing. However I do have a potty mouth so sometimes the “f” word does slip out or is used for dramatic effect. Agree the point of this blog is for people to come in and give their opinions and I am thrilled that 99% of people (sorry Altiyan fans) that contribute here have interesting, insightful and/or funny comments. Quite frankly I don’t think any blog has better commenters then mine. However I will monitor the comments more.

31 Reality Raver { 02.09.12 at 9:00 pm }

Since we are talking about the comment sections, does anyone else have any issues, comments, what they would like to see occur, or guidelines?

32 Marepoppin { 02.09.12 at 9:05 pm }

I think we should get a mandatory CB and BDD comment or two on every story. Offensive as they both are wont to be, I want to see what their opinions are. Also, abolish ‘anonymous’ postings. If you can’t even assign yourself a handle, get off the Internet

33 seepi { 02.09.12 at 9:14 pm }

i DONT’ LIKE THE c WORD EITHER. Sadly/Happily the F word I use myself and hardly notice.

34 Reality Raver { 02.09.12 at 9:18 pm }

Thanks Marepoppin and Seepi for the input as it is not just my blog it is also the readers. As a blog is nothing without them.

35 Andrea { 02.09.12 at 10:00 pm }

thanks for taking the time to reply to my comments, I appreciate it and agree with Marepoppin about abolishing anonymous postings.

36 Culinary Boner { 02.10.12 at 12:57 pm }

As the “F” word is now passΓ©e and almost legally acceptable in our society, I agree with Andrea, but for an entirely different reason, in taking a hard line stand against the “C” word.

For the “C” word’s own sake, please everyone, reserve its use.

Why throw it unfairly and unnecessarily at BDD (who happens to a shining ornament to this blog with his wit, snappy puns and snarky, but considered, comments) as anon did?

No no no no no! It must be kept locked safely away to be only smashed out of its emergency locker for describing the vilest of scumbags. Apart from Kyle Sandilands and Mark Latham I can’t think of too many other public figures truly worthy of the “C” word. Though I have to say, speaking as a confirmed fan of vagina, it perturbs that the history of the English language has equated an item that has brought so much pleasure into the world* has been vilified so.

* I’m talking about children and childbirth, cripes you’re all a dirty minded lot.

37 brain dead dave { 02.10.12 at 1:03 pm }

Thanks for your kind words CB. I don’t feel such a sad old beaver now.

38 brain dead dave { 02.10.12 at 1:16 pm }

Hamish and Michelle???
No way.
He’s was probably giving him his bottle and changing his nappy

43 Candice { 02.12.12 at 11:21 am }

I am with Anonymous and Rosie.

Just wanted to say that. I can’t read here any more. This place is a snake pit.

44 smauge { 02.12.12 at 1:45 pm }

Don’t let the door hit you in the arse.

45 Anonymous { 02.14.12 at 10:22 am }

Aren’t you a charmer. I thought the foul language and the bile was reserved for the hilarious misogynist and homophobes here. You just have to boot the boot in and have the last (nasty) word every time. I’d call you a troll, but you are too busy implying that anyone who does not kowtow to you and your spiteful smug little gang is a troll for the term to be effective. So I will name you as I see it – so inadequate you have to attach yourself to a bully like BDD and then crow about it, and an internet psychic vampire, endlessly stirring discord in the most nasty waspish way.

46 smauge { 02.14.12 at 10:28 am }

Not only do we not know who this is directed at, but we also don’t know who it is from. Grow some balls.

47 Culinary Boner { 02.14.12 at 10:32 am }

gee anon, you seem to be investing an awful lot of time getting your knickers in a twist about a site you claim to dislike… so I will re-phrase smauge’s suggestion in a less offensive way for you:- “Don’t let the door hit you in the derriere.”

Who says the posters on this site have no class?

Ta ta.

48 Reality Raver { 02.14.12 at 10:41 am }

Anonymous – I take it your comment is directed at me. My policy is to pull any comments that someone emails directly about and their concerns are valid, so if you have some issues about a comment please contact me directly.
For the record I don’t support misogyny or homophobia nor racism. In fact the best article I have read all week was by Jane Caro on Mama Mia which is about how men have to be responsible for their own responses to women. It is in relation to the Bettina Arndt article that was in the Sunday papers. In fact everyone should read the first paragraph of it as it is a cracker. http://www.mamamia.com.au/relationships/bettina-arndt-asks-whether-women-with-boobs-out-inviting-ogling/

Also for the record in the mid-nineties I worked closely with the gay community as a pallative care nurse mainly with patients who had HIV/AID’s. Thankfully these “skills” are not required as much now as the treatments have improved.

Look I know sometimes this blog pushes boundaries of good taste and thoughts but that is what does make it a bit different from the other sites. Again I reiterate to all readers contact me via email on realityravings@hotmail.com someone alerted me earlier this week about the racist remark on an MKR thread it was removed as soon as I could.

49 brain dead dave { 02.14.12 at 11:34 am }

You’ve still failed to provide one iota of proof of your insane claim of the other day, Anonymous.

50 Georgie { 02.14.12 at 7:10 pm }

Anonymous – you really are a censorious sanctimonious bore. I pity your poor family – you’ve probably put a ban on fun.
