Jermaine Jones’ Idol Journey Over
Idol contestant Jermaine Jones has run out of lifelines on American Idol. Having been brought back despite missing out on making the top 24, the man nicknamed the Gentle Giant has been disqualified [note – there are spoilers on the performances at this link]. Jones broke the story himself, tweeting on Tuesday night: “Awww I will no longer b on the show.” That tweet was deleted, but TMZ was onto the story, claiming that the giant was not as gentle as he’d made out and had not been honest about his “criminal past”.
E! Online reports:
In 2011, the singer was reportedly charged with two crimes; Jones allegedly gave a fake name to the cops during both arrests.
According to TMZ, Jones was involved in a fight in March 2011 and the outstanding warrants involved driving whilst suspended and “disorderly conduct with an open container”. So, he doesn’t sound like a criminal mastermind, but it does show that being less than scrupulously honest on applications will inevitably come back to bite you. Of course, there are always conspiracy theories. Some commenters here suggest that the producers knew about his past all along and are milking the situation for the publicity that a “shock” elimination brings. What do you think?
