The Block – Andrew and Mike versus Rana and Brett

The Block won the Logie for Best Reality TV Show, but it also could have won Logie for most unsubtle product placement. At this stage brand names are getting more close ups then the contestants.

It was the last chance to get on “the block” and it was mother and daughter team Rana and Brett versus brothers, Andrew and Mike.

The piece was a moroccan style dresser, however it was bit unfair as one was black and white, and the other was pink and white. Rana and Brett got the pink one and they really ran with that colour, with it on the walls and wall paper. I would have loved to have known what Neale Whittaker and John McGrath really thought of the colours.

Brett who is a drainer was very handy with a paint brush and it was a pity  Rana was not as efficient at the shopping. Her returning with one rug after hours of shopping was amusing.

Andrew and Mike were far more efficient, they had pictures from magazines and spent a lot of time planning. Then they both went shopping together a different strategy from most of the teams this week. The commentary was trying to hint the boys were running late because they did not start painting until late afternoon. However because two of them painting they easily got it completely.

Andrew and Mike were making a sitting room, and they were not going to put in a TV. When Scott Cam queried this Andrew said “not many people have TVs, Mike doesn’t”. Scott Cam drawled “Well if not many people had televisions I would be out of a job.”

Actually Scott was on fire last night with his quips when Mike looked like he was about to keel over he said “First rule of building, don’t faint with a stanley knife in your hand”.

At judging time Scott kindly pointed out the holes in the walls in Brett and Rana’s room, and it was no surprise the brothers won. Andrew and Mike with one being a handyman and the other a labourer must have an advantage in the competition over some of the other teams. However as well as being handy with a power drill this pair are also easy on the eye.

Rana would have been annoying on The Block if every second sobbing utterance from her was being a good mother and not letting her son down. That said, they perhaps were stronger than some of the other teams (Tuesday’s couple) that got through.
It was an awful piece to work with considering how neutral the other “inspirational” items were.

Yes it was a no brainer – the brothers were always going to get through.

Geez, I thought Rana was just a smoking cougar. Having just read Maz’s post ,glad I had the mute on for the whole show.

I found that shade of green in the brothers room really disturbing.

Thanks for including some of $cotty’s gold ,RR.

Now with the suss product placement, I couldn’t help noticing the shot of the life sized cardboard $cotty in the Mitre 10 store.

I’m glad Rana didn’t make it, I found her really annoying. Every appearance was her saying she wanted to be a good mother and not let her son down, followed by her letting her son down.

Having said that, I think the final selection is a bit dull considering how many people must audition for the show

BDD – I have never really been a huge fan of Scott Cam’s bit too blokey for me, but last night he was on fire.

I managed to watch this for the first time this year. Rana only seemed capable of shopping and spending money, rather than any of the useful grunt work that is essential for renos. It was pretty clear if this team got through they’d be a one son operation and in the bottom on a nightly basis. I also got the feeling she needs another hobby other than her son (and no, shopping and spending money isn’t truly a hobby… even for a Kardashian).

bit disappointing that a parent-child team didn’t make it since thats a team dynamic we haven’t seen before but i’m so glad rana is gone. how annoying and useless was she?
gotta say though the couples that did make it are all a bit bland. nothing much to differentiate between them so far. esp compared to last yr when we had the constantly arguing couple, the whingy whiny sisters, the typical suburban ones and the lovable bumbling fools who somehow managed to win.

Rana was a hottie and Brett could do her a favour by taking her onto My Kitchen Rules perhaps and seeing what she can do in the kitchen!

Good lord how this show has been a ratings blockbuster I will never know.
tis so utterly drab and boring – and the rooms are hideous.

Thought they were great would have made good tv I did like there room would have been better than the 20 something rest of contestants and i think they would have done justice to the victorian terraces as it was obvious she understood that era a lot better. should get them back for next series could be pitted aganst farther and daughter team as it should have been done in the first place

Easy on the eye…you need your eyes checked.
