Guest Post: Masterchef Australia – This Weeks Contestant’s Odds

Each year of Masterchef, Paul who may or may not punt in real life, has kindly sent through a weekly odds list about who he thinks are the favourites. For new readers you cannot actually bet real money on them, but it always starts a good Friday conversation on who we think is the favourite to win. Also interesting to see how it changes as the series evolves.

Over to you Paul:

$4.00 : Audra
$9.00 : Mindy, Kylie
$11.00: Dalvinder
$13.00: Tregan
$15.00: Andy
$17.00: Jules, Sam, Ben, Amina, Alice
$34.00: Wade
$41.00: Debra, Julia, Andrew
$67.00: Filippo, Mario
$101.00: Beau
$201.00: Emma

Sorry MILF lovers, but Audra clear favourite. Does not put a foot wrong, seems calm and is popular with the others.
Mindy and Kylie next best as both haven’t really done a thing wrong so far.

I think Dalvinder is a bit of a smoky and Tregan seems to be a real fighter who will never give up. Really like her atttitude.

Andy the best of the blokes on what has been shown so far.

The group on $17 with the exception of Amina could move up or down the market quite rapidly over the next few weeks as we just haven’t seen enough of their cooking on an individual level to make a decision. However, the little we have seen in the group challengers indicates they are more than capable. I really like Amina but not sure whether she has what it takes to win it.

The others have all shown flaws and I doubt they can take out the prize.

I am surprised with Kylie’s position. I can’t remember any outstanding dishes delivered by her. She messed up twice. Her ganache (or is it mousse?) didn’t set properly on her tuile during the biscuit challenge. How can we forget her dog turd dessert?

Amina should sit higher as she has delivered 2 immunity challenge wins and she is good in both savoury and sweet.

I am hoping Amina moves up in the rankings too – she really seems to be the most versatile of the lot.

3 Maryann { 06.01.12 at 11:37 am }

I agree Audra is the one to beat at the moment. But I do think Debra will move up the ranking as she can cook, she just can’t lead.

4 Georgie { 06.01.12 at 11:41 am }

Amina has taken over first place from Emma in the bawling stakes.

5 Amy { 06.01.12 at 11:59 am }

Audra is definitely a chance to take it out. Seems like a nice lady too!

6 Joseph Skyrim { 06.01.12 at 12:02 pm }

I agree with Maryann that Debra seems to be able to cook just fine, and Georgie – Amina had decent reason to do so yesterday. Emma can just turn it on at will it seems.

Can I ask why is Beau so far down the list – I probably missed eps where he screwed up? I do agree that Audra seems to be the one to beat at this stage though. She’s just kicking butt.

7 Georgie { 06.01.12 at 12:09 pm }

Joseph Skyrim – yes I know she was besties with TK, but I wasn’t just talking about last night. Every other time they show her on camera she’s wiping up tears.

8 auds { 06.01.12 at 12:22 pm }

I am still going with Mindy to win – then Audra

9 Paul { 06.01.12 at 12:28 pm }

Have Beau down the list as he seems very limited on what I’ve seen from him so far.

Agree that Debra can cook however don’t think she has the mental toughness to last the journey. She is going to be put in plenty more pressure situations as the weeks go on.

10 Dunbi { 06.01.12 at 12:40 pm }

Can’t decide between Audra or Amina

11 Joseph Skyrim { 06.01.12 at 12:41 pm }

@Georgie – Oh my bad! I’ve never actually noticed or I’ve passed it off as she’s wiping sweat? Her attire doesn’t look comfy, especially for someone working near heat.

I think the one who will win is…

Mario! Haha, that guy has had the least air time methinks. I don’t even know what he likes to cook! 😛

12 dmc { 06.01.12 at 12:58 pm }

Interesting that this year’s MC is really all about the ladies. I can’t see any male having a hope in hell of winning this year.

13 Andy Pandy { 06.01.12 at 1:08 pm }

They don’t give the men enough air time, I want to see more of all the invisible contestants. I don’t care who wins at the moment as long as its not Julia or Debra.

14 brain dead dave { 06.01.12 at 3:23 pm }

Austraia’s next Ma$terchef will need the mental toughness to deal with their dishes being compared to dog excrement or remembrances of urinals past if they are to succeed in this culinary crap shoot.

Then there’s dealing with the creepiness of Gary and George. They’re salivating – but not for food.

Cripes Raver, how come your site advert’s are now peddling hipster glasses a la Alice? >

16 littlepetal { 06.01.12 at 3:39 pm }

Yes,Mindy can win. Maybe Channel Ten want a lesbian to win. Just like Biggest Loser. I like Amina’s cooking. Also agree that Audra and Deb can cook. The boys are not too good.

17 Token Canadian { 06.01.12 at 10:33 pm }

Definitely think you have Amina way too low…I’d put her in the top group with Audra and Mindy. Doesn’t seem to have any shockers and has a massively diverse culinary background to draw from.

Also I know why you have Deb so low but seeing as nearly everything she cooks solo is spot-on I would have her a bit higher, pressure notwithstanding. Definitely above Kylie, who hasn’t shown much and Jules, whose claim to fame so far is not knowing how to make pasta.

18 Daze { 06.02.12 at 8:27 am }

Amanda Keller interviewed TK on last night’s Living Room (follows MC) TK said she spent most of her time doing karaoke with Amina and getting to bed at 2am – she also hinted Amina is there for a while, hmmmm.

So far they’ve had 2 female winners, 1 male, so perhaps it will be a male this year but there are no real standouts, so far. The stronger cooks are Amina Audra Mindy Debra Tregan and perhaps Ben and Andy to be in the top 12. Hard to pick Sam or Julia to make it to top 12.

19 Georgie { 06.02.12 at 8:59 am }

Thanks for that update Daze – I was out last night so missed everything. I did manage to see a repeat of Amazing Race at about 11pm though, to fill in the missing bits I slept through the other night.

20 Daze { 06.02.12 at 9:06 am }

Thanks Georgie. I’m liking this group a lot more than last seasons – mostly everyone was annoying and now, with Kath and Lydia gone, I’m liking everyone that’s left.
