Masterchef Australia – Only Winners Not Losers
With Masterchef Australia heading to Tasmania and no elimination pressure test on Monday night there was not a lot of tension in the episode as only a winner was selected and no bottom three. However the plus side was the invention test was about seduction and the producers used this as an opportunity to let the viewer find out if their favourite contestant was single.
Also I am sure they are hoping for a Ben and Kylie hook up before the end of the series. Filippo also has the opportunity to become a sex symbol as it appears his wife is nowhere to be seen and I suspect he must be separated or divorced. Unfortunately Andy burnt his hand badly and was up watching on the balcony so we are still none the wiser about his love life status.
Unfortunately for the winner it looks like they won’t be cooking off for an immunity pin, but will get some big advantage in the challenge tomorrow night. Hmm that is a bit unfair.
The mystery box was pork, beetroot, pineapple, marshmallow, ciabatta, and white rum. Which of course meant all the dessert queens had the opportunity to do just that. However Andy did a fusion type dish which was a mix between and main and dessert. He made flambe pineapple which his was going to put his pork in the middle, however he grabbed the scanpan handle and second degree burns. Not great advertising for the company, I would have thought they had heat resistant handles.
Amina cooked pork for the first time and I thought it was disappointing they did not select it, just to give her some feedback on how it was cooked. Hopefully this occurred off camera.
Audra and Dalvinder made top three with their versions of Sweet and Sour Pork, with Beau also being selected for a simple but nicely plated Crumbed Pork Chop with Beetroot and Goat’s Cheese Salad. Dalvinder won the mystery box. However both ladies with the young families both appeared to missing them very much.
After Dalvinder was announced the winner the other contestants did a Bollywood Dance it must have been some cultural acknowledgement or some cross promotion to SBS’s new reality show Bollywood Star which started last Saturday night.
The Invention test was the dish the contestants would cook to seduce a loved one. They had the choice of strawberries and cream, champagne and caviar, or chocolate and roses.
Dalvinder was able to cook with any of the ingredient she liked in the pantry, and the judges were disappointed that she made a chocolate cake with strawberry mousse.
Kylie made Chocolate Ravioli, which Matt Preston was a bit iffy about, however George was enthusiastic about it, though not sure if this was to do with the fact that Kylie said she was single and she would take any guy that was breathing.
Filippo’s cake hit the brief and seduced George who gave him a hug. It also got him into the top three.
Audra was in tears when she served up her poached strawberries and mascapone, and even though her pastry was undercooked, George told her she was a front runner in the competition.
Ben who is turning into the Jimmy Seervai of Mexican served up a Scampi and Caviar Mexican dish he may want to change to other cuisines as the judges are getting sick of seeing tortillas.
Tregan made a mergingue and cream and strawberries and she said this was the last dish she made her fiancee Luke before she entered the house. Thankfully Tregan did not reveal the extent of the piercings Luke had, as my theory is more then three on the face usually is indicative there are some under the clothes….
Sam made Seafood for Two, using the champagne and caviar. Matt Preston said it was spectacularly cooked.
Mindy got teary when asked about her love life as she has just come out of a three year relationship and a TV WEEK article had said she had been engaged to her girlfriend. She made Seafood Pasta. It looked good. But Matt said it was good, but not great.
Again it was another episode where we did not see the food of either Jules or Mario when are these guys going to do something.
The top three were Sam who again hit the seduction brief with George exclaiming “You blew my mind”. Tregan and Filippo also were top three with Sam deservedly winning.
