Guest Post: Masterchef Australia – The Final Week Odds

Thanks for doing the odds again this year Paul – always a bit of fun. At the moment I am trying to decide who to go for. Heart says Julia but considering it is a cooking competition the best cook SHOULD win and Audra really has not skipped a beat. It is a pity we did not know about her “catering” business at the start, like Julia’s cake business. When information like this is hidden it tends to have a bigger impact than if they had been upfront at the start.

Also please keep comments on the subject not attack the commentator.

Over to your Paul:

$3.25: Audra, Mindy

$4.00: Kylie

$8.00: Julia

$11 : Andy

$21: Ben

Nothing has changed my mind for the past month in that the top three girls are clearly the ones to beat. In fact (big statement here) I think they are three of the best competitors to ever grace the Masterchef series so whoever loses can consider themselves unlucky.

Julia doesn’t have the range of the other girls but her determination and poise under pressure can never be questioned whilst Andy and Ben are out of their depth at this stage in the competition in my opinion.

BDD, as I have suggested yesterday, Mr Paul has not read the WD & other spoilers.

My dream team (final 3): Audra, Julia & Andy.
The reality: It could be Mindy, Audra, Ben.

2 brain dead dave { 07.20.12 at 10:17 am }

LOL.

3 Gillian { 07.20.12 at 10:20 am }

@EH – but why should Paul be factoring in any spoilers in the post? He is writing about the final six not three. It would be hard to say who would win as reality TV is not a level playing field and it’s not always based on talent. However on purely talent alone, I’d say Audra is the one to beat.

4 Paul { 07.20.12 at 10:24 am }

EH – I’m a male so don’t tend to read WD…….

I treat spoilers like conspiracy theories – hardly worth bothering with most of the time.

5 EH { 07.20.12 at 10:24 am }

Huh, Gillian… I am picking my final 3 because we are already in the final week & this is the last time Paul can piblish his odds. Am I not allowed to do that?

6 Gillian { 07.20.12 at 10:29 am }

@EH I just read over my post and I didn’t say anything about you not being able to pick a final three :-) I don’t read WD either. Those weekly magazines are trash and they only continue to exist because people keep on buying them.

7 Morgan { 07.20.12 at 10:29 am }

I’d put Andy above Julia at this stage.

8 EH { 07.20.12 at 10:30 am }

Kudos to you Paul. May I ask you a question? Who do you think will win this series?

9 EH { 07.20.12 at 10:32 am }

Gillian – Because you wrote, “He is writing about the final six not three.” and I talked about final 3 on my comment. If I misunderstood the meaning of your sentence, I apologise.

10 Paul { 07.20.12 at 10:34 am }

@EH – hmmm.

Its really hard. Audra & Mindy are both super cooks and up there with Marion as the best ever in the MC series. And Kylie is probably the equal of Kate Bracks as the best dessert/pastry cook we’ve seen.

If I had to tip someone it would be Audra.

11 EH { 07.20.12 at 10:40 am }

@Paul, I agree Audra is the best all round cook among the six. But do you reckon the “catering business” scandal will affect her chance of winning?

12 Gillian { 07.20.12 at 10:41 am }

@EH – I can see how I wrote can be misleading. Quickly tapping out comments while at work. No apology necessary!

13 EH { 07.20.12 at 10:47 am }

Gillian – We have the choice to read/buy whatever we like. To each his own. You can’t criticise someone based on their choice of magazines they buy/read. It is like the journalists keep moaning that blogs exist because people keep on reading them or Justin Bieber is still gracing the stage because the tweenies keep buying his albums.

14 Paul { 07.20.12 at 10:50 am }

@EH – I don’t see why it would.

The judges are judging based on the food that is cooked at that time- everything else is an irrelevancy.

I think the whole ‘scandal’ is way overplayed anyway – it was a story in one of the Sunday papers 2 months ago. Nary a peep about it since in the mainstream media.

Look at it this way. Kate Bracks went through the same thing last year with the Dalai Lama episode. Huge PR beat up at the time and then after that quickly forgotten about.

15 brain dead dave { 07.20.12 at 10:50 am }

The WD spoiler has turned out to be correct.

As for Mindy, I’ve made the call that she cannot possibly win before any spoilers surfaced. The creepy Cold Sore Queen should be 500/1.

Who’d pay $4.00 for Woman’s Day? The nice man at the petrol station let me read it for nothing and write down the deluded amatas that have been selected by $hine for Final Weak.

16 Gillian { 07.20.12 at 10:54 am }

@EH – I said the magazines were trash, not that people reading them were trash! I would have insulted 90% of people reading this blog. You have a choice to read them but I also have a choice to voice my opinion on them :-) I hope you paid for petrol BDD!

17 brain dead dave { 07.20.12 at 11:03 am }

“The judges are judging based on the food that is cooked at that time- everything else is an irrelevancy.”

Believe that irrelevancy and you’ll believe anything. A puddle pie proves that.

I walked two minutes to the servo Gillian, and duly made a token purchase.

18 EH { 07.20.12 at 11:10 am }

Gillian – You directed the comment to me & you wrote ” Those weekly magazines are trash and they only continue to exist because people keep on buying them.”

You blame the people who bought these weekly magazines (or as you put it – trash) for their existence, so it sounds to me that it is indirectly insulting people who bought them.

Just to echo BDD, the WD spoiler has turned out to be correct.

Note to self – Stop interacting with Paul. Now I started to sound like him.

19 Paul { 07.20.12 at 11:13 am }

bdd – do you have to be so goddam miserable and negative about MC all the bloody time.

You would have to be the most depressing poster.

Yes you don’t like Masterchef – Yes, you’re dying to spoil everybody’s enjoyment of it by giving people the results of the spoiler.

We know. We know.

For gods sake, can you just leave your miserable opinions about MC out of just one single blog post on this site.

Please.

20 brain dead dave { 07.20.12 at 11:15 am }

Relax EH – you need to work on your homophobia, racism and disability slurs before you sink that low.

“Also please keep comments on the subject not attack the commentator”

Goes for the author, too.

21 Gillian { 07.20.12 at 11:21 am }

@EH – Do not read so much into my posts. I’m not that deep haha :-) And I would never deliberately insult anyone on this forum least of all you EH.

22 brain dead dave { 07.20.12 at 11:26 am }

I posted the WD spoiler several nights ago after asking Reality Raver’s permission and advice. Problem?

23 EH { 07.20.12 at 11:28 am }

BDD, I don’t like to be perceived by Gillian as someone who supported trash because I paid $4 for a copy of WD last week so I could read about the details of the spoiler and Julia & Justin’s wedding over a cuppa & scone in the comfort of my home. Please take note, I wasn’t the one who started it.

Note to self – reading WD doesn’t help me to distinguish the difference between Flamingo & Flamenco.

24 EH { 07.20.12 at 11:30 am }

Gillian – it is all cool. Paul’s trolling is infectious.

25 Reality Raver { 07.20.12 at 11:35 am }

I know there are ongoing issues between some long term posters on this forum, but I figure you are all old enough to duke it out. However etiquette would suggest to show some respect to Paul’s guest post.

26 brain dead dave { 07.20.12 at 11:36 am }

EH~You don’t feel as bad as I do , shelling out $10 for Rolling Stone “Greatest 500 Albums Of All Time”. Not recommended.

Bought an air freight copy of MOJO last night $18.

These items are trash to many people but like Eric Burdon said:

“It’s My Life And I’ll Do What I Want”

27 Anonymous { 07.20.12 at 11:39 am }

EH, do you often have problems distinguishing between flamingoes and flamencoes?

I do think Audra is the most competent cook on the show; she is not the best team worker and I don’t think she would be the most successful in the pressure cooker environment of a commercial chef’s kitchen, but that is not what the show is about.

Audra is also very attractive and marketable (drawl things considered) so should win without too much difficulty.

28 Joseph Skyrim { 07.20.12 at 11:48 am }

I’m still wondering how Kylie is single. :/

Paul – I think some of the previous season’s contestants could give the girls a run for their money. I do agree that there are -more- higher level cooks in this batch though. Also don’t worry about BDD. If he likes it or doesn’t like it he still watches it which helps its ratings, and his mocking posts later on are quite entertaining for most of the rest of us silly blog visitors. :)

For now I’m backing Julia – she has cute doggies! Nothing like illogical reasoning – hehe! :D

29 EH { 07.20.12 at 11:48 am }

Anonymous – No, only yesterday when I was typing my comment while watching cute Andy cooking on Masterchef.

30 Paul { 07.20.12 at 11:52 am }

@Joseph,
Maybe Poh and Adam had more flair but you hardly ever see Audra or Mindy make a mistake. Don’t think either are at Marion’s level but they’re not far off it.

Also Kylie is very under-rated and is probably the most imaginative dessert cook we’ve seen.

31 Morgan { 07.20.12 at 11:59 am }

If you ask me, I think Billy from last year is the best “Dessert Specialist” this show has had. He could also be very versatile and serve up some great savoury dishes. Kate I found to be a strong, consistent cook, but her style was very bland and uninispiring.

32 Paul { 07.20.12 at 12:00 pm }

Fair call Morgan – Billy was very good too.

33 brain dead dave { 07.20.12 at 12:01 pm }

34 Gillian { 07.20.12 at 12:06 pm }

I like to think I’m a good judge of character but I don’t see the last people on the show being fake. I’m more of a no-nonsense Julia type myself and don’t like gushy types in general but I don’t see Mindy, Kylie or Audra as being manipulative or conniving.

I feel like in Australia you can’t win. If you pat yourself on the shoulder and you’re confident, then you’re cocky and arrogant. But if you show humility, then you are accused of false modesty. I think the final six are being prodded by producers to appear interesting and entertaining – that’s what might come across as false and untrue.

Testing 1 2 3 Chunks :-)

35 bron { 07.20.12 at 12:10 pm }

i swear, the producers are going to milk this bandy thing as much as they can therefore ben and andy will be the final two.

36 Paul { 07.20.12 at 12:10 pm }

@Gillian.
100% spot on.

37 Joseph Skyrim { 07.20.12 at 12:12 pm }

I actually think Justine and Jonathan should be up there on your over-all good cooks list as well. Maybe I’m biased because their names begin with J though. ;)

BDD – re: Kylie being fake. Naw man, I think her boobs are real too. ;P Seriously though I don’t think she’d be like that real life. Need to see these people in a non-competitive environment methinks, though I imagine that wouldn’t be much of a show…

38 Culinary Boner { 07.20.12 at 12:19 pm }

Audra and Mindy are easily the two best cooks, but both have annoying, alienating personality traits.

So my money’s on Kylie – the sweet, young, smiley, fluffy All-Aussie chick from central casting.

I’m sure those who make $$$ off the back of the winner are wishing for an Andy victory. But even they must realise he isn’t a strong enough cook and no amount of chicanery – short of kneecapping the others (or their loved ones) – would be effective in handing him the prize.

39 brain dead dave { 07.20.12 at 12:20 pm }

I guess you look at Kylie fawning over a panel of semi obscure chefs at the macaron tower challenge and see the ingratiating display of describing them as “rock stars” complete with mindless gushing.

Having met some famous rock stars in my time, shock horror , they’re just human beings….like most of us.

Reminds me of Eric Burdon, kneeling to kiss James Brown’s ring when introduced and promptly being told “Get this mother****er out of here!”

40 Dmc { 07.20.12 at 12:20 pm }

BDD – MOJO trash?

Never!

41 Calliegirl { 07.20.12 at 12:26 pm }

I would love Julia to win – just love her dignity. She somehow manages to rise above the inanities of the silly judges comments. So fingers crossed for her.

42 brain dead dave { 07.20.12 at 12:27 pm }

Dmc~The latest one with Brian Jones on the cover,(no bones ,either) is awesome.

I’m with you on the Julia train, Calliegirl.

Could make some pretty good luggage with Mindy’s skin after the show finishes.

43 planb { 07.20.12 at 12:37 pm }

If poor old Callum can be in the final two in Marion’s season, anything is possible. Go Andy’s Mum!

44 EH { 07.20.12 at 12:40 pm }

CB – You never know Andy will rise above the rest & cook up some spectacular dishes in the final week. I reckon a “Bendy cookbook: fan fiction included” will outsell any of the remaining 5 amatars.

Personally, I don’t find Audra annoying. May be because in my past life (aka my life before Sydney) I was surrounded by a lot of people who speak/behave like her.

I like Audra to win because she is by far the best all round cook but I hesitate to pick her as the winner because of two factors: the catering business scandal & her winner cookbook will be too similar to Adam & Poh.

I also like to see Julia win because I just <3 her. But again, two dessert cookbooks back to back?

Mindy has been seen & groomed by Shine to be the front runner & favourite to win. Base on what we have seen, the people who are edited like Mindy won't win. I hope Shine can prove me wrong. There has not been many shock/controversial eliminations except Amina. So may be there is another one installed for the final week.

I ruled out Kylie long ago because she has been spotted working in a pattiserie in Melbourne.

As for Ben. He is still there because of the Bendy/Bandy phenomena.

For that, I put my money on Andy. Go "Bendy cookbook: fan fiction included". Where should I hide my copy so hubby can't find it?

BDD – I prefer “rock stars” over “culinary Gods”

45 Culinary Boner { 07.20.12 at 12:40 pm }

I’d forgotten about Gollum planb.
Is he in MCA All Stars? Hope so.
I also hope they bring back that walking OH&S nightmare contestant – Jake? – so we can have half the set collapse around him.

46 Gillian { 07.20.12 at 12:42 pm }

@BDD You have to remember this is a TV show and it’s edited. Kylie may have been asked a question about the judges and given a Julia-type monotone response. Then she may have been asked the same question in another way and then realised she was being prodded by the producers to seem more enthusiastic. Remember this is ‘unreality TV’ and for our entertainment.

I actually liked her response about the chefs being her rockstars. Everyone has a dream and it’s not neccessarily to be rich and famous. I’d never even date a celebrity. But everyone has their dream and for Kylie is to be a chef. I cannot comment on her cleavage as I’ve never noticed it!

47 brain dead dave { 07.20.12 at 12:43 pm }

Jowl$y to Callum: “It all comes down to the custard you burned tonight…you’re safe!”

Great for Kylie if she has chef dreams. That’s what 4yr apprenticeships are for.

48 EH { 07.20.12 at 12:52 pm }

I can hear Mindy crying, “Why didn’t I get the same Callum treatment with my burnt galangal custard?”

BDD – I think I need another of your lecture time: burned or burnt?

49 planb { 07.20.12 at 12:54 pm }

CB – he is.

Fish Shack Jake – oh happy days – isn’t, sadly.

50 Chunks { 07.20.12 at 12:55 pm }

Very funny Gillian! I was assured that my “test” post couldn’t be viewed by other posters. God knows why that one showed up when my other posts today have been swallowed up by Matt Preston. Grrrr.

From a marketing perspective Andy is the best choice of winner (since he and Ben can’t win as a duo) and I’m pretty sure his cook book would sell best but as He Who Must Not Be Named says every year about this time, cookbook sales are small bickies for the Ma$terchef juggernaut.

Now I’ll be very unhappy and throw a tantrum if this post gets devoured by Matt Preston as well.

51 Gillian { 07.20.12 at 12:55 pm }

@ BDD – I can’t imagine an apprenticeship are that easy to come by at the best restaurants especially in these hard economic times. For me personally, I don’t see that people lose credibility because they use reality TV as a platform to achieve their dreams. For example, a great singer is a great singer to me whether they have spent years singing in pubs or hopped on a reality TV show to be discovered.

@Chunks – Good to have you back on board :-)

52 Paul { 07.20.12 at 1:01 pm }

Firstly, the old 4 year apprenticeship is a bit of a myth in reality – Heston Blumenthal never did an apprenticeship, neither did Christine Manfield, neither have heaps of others.

Secondly Kylie was signed up to work at Matt Moran’s restaurant IIRC just before Masterchef started.

Thirdly, its just not practical to do an apprenticeship for some people – especially those who want a career change later in life.

53 brain dead dave { 07.20.12 at 1:04 pm }

EH~ both are acceptable. Like “smelled” or “‘smelt” etc. Learned , learnt and so on.

Yes ,Gillian , I see and understand your points. I differentiate between qualified chefs and the home cooks on Ma$terchef, knowing that there are many home cooks out there that will never go on Ma$terchef who would give Gary and George a real caning.

It is a pity that food cannot be auto tuned , however, like the hopefuls on The Voice, X Factor etc.

54 Gillian { 07.20.12 at 1:06 pm }

@ Paul – I do think it’s good for them to do apprenticeships and learn basic skills but it’s not always economically viable. At 23 however, I think Kylie could easily work in a commercial kitchen as an apprentice not so much if you’re 43 and you don’t have a partner to support you.

The knifemanship (and I’m being nice here haha) of ben’s was attrocious! It does irk me that they do not learn basic techniques before going on the show. After so many series, they should have a list like tempering chocolate for example or making icecream whether they prefer to cook sweet or savoury dishes!

@BDD – Yes, there would be so many great home chefs who could show the hosts a thing or two! Auto tune hahaha!

55 Paul { 07.20.12 at 1:10 pm }

Most of their knife skills would stand up alongside the average pub or local restaurant chef I would have thought.

And I hear what youo’re saying about learning different skills but in reality you need to find the time and money to priactice these things.

For example when would someone like Audra get the 3-4 hours a day to practice these things with a couple of young children on the go plus a job.

Personally I get about 2 hours a week (if that) to try anything creative in the kitchen. There’s just not enough time in the world these days.

56 J { 07.20.12 at 1:11 pm }

I agree with Gillian about not being able to win. Humility is false and silent confidence makes one an ice queen. Stand out and you will be shot down. Oh well.

I don’t find Audra irritating in anyway but perhaps like EH, I am used to it. If anyone was underhanded and came across as fake, it was Kylie (whom everyone else finds very genuine) when she kissed and licked six arses as if they were coated with sugar.

Also, in regards to the recent put down of Fred’s commentaries, I have to say that I look forwards to them as they are hilarious and will make the time for them no matter how long. :)

57 planb { 07.20.12 at 1:13 pm }

“Also Kylie is very under-rated and is probably the most imaginative dessert cook we’ve seen.”

Kylie’s done quite a few dud desserts in the season, and some remarkable flops these last few nights alone. (Alana from last year was far better at desserts, and where is she now?)

I can’t recall anything I’d call imaginative in the dessert realm by Kylie, though there may have been something a ways back I’ve forgotten – but Andy’s rosemary bavaroise attempt, that was something outside of the clumsy millefeuille, etc dished up by Kylie this week.

In terms of desserts, both Mindy and Audra have outclassed our Kyles several times. But perhaps prettiness cancels all that out?

58 EH { 07.20.12 at 1:14 pm }

Paul – re Kylie, Matt Moran or Jamie Oliver or is it Matt Moran & Jamie Oliver? Wow she did get some pretty big offers then. There goes Gillian’s theory of the difficulties in getting apprenticeship in hard economy.

59 planb { 07.20.12 at 1:17 pm }

It was one of Jamie Oliver’s restaurants, the Sydney one?, where she’d got a place and turned it down to go on the show.

Oh, and Billy. Billy was the dessert queen. All these blondes are just pretenders.

60 Paul { 07.20.12 at 1:17 pm }

Gillian did say (and I agree with her) that its difficult. That does not mean its impossible.

And I think it was Jamie Oliver too. Thanks.

61 brain dead dave { 07.20.12 at 1:19 pm }

Matt Moran will show Kylie his bacon torpedo before too long.

62 Gillian { 07.20.12 at 1:19 pm }

EH – Yes, there goes my theory. And honestly, if I had to choose between an apprenticeship and going on the show, I would have chosen the apprenticeship. But then, it made me wonder whether she was encouraged by Matt Moran to go on the show as they would always be on the lookout for interesting people?

63 J { 07.20.12 at 1:20 pm }

Planb, agreed… I’m still hungry for Audra’s corkscrew pear dessert from two nights ago. Much more tempting than the opera and the Mille feuille. I have to say that Callum’s crown jewel macarons still lingers in my mind so maybe I’m not the best judge.

64 Ari { 07.20.12 at 1:22 pm }

Speaking of dessert queens, does anyone remember Kate from season 1? I always thought her desserts were killer and imaginative. Shame she came off as a really annoying and teary contestant though.

65 bron { 07.20.12 at 1:23 pm }

jeez, don’t speak too soon, chunks. the bendy cookbook doesn’t sound too farfetched.

66 Chunks { 07.20.12 at 1:25 pm }

I dunno Paul. I’m a big Ben fan and nearly fell out of my chair when I saw him slicing onions in the Keep Up With Kylie challenge.

It’s interesting that after three previous seasons, so many of them came into the competition without a broad range of skills and basic recipes. Surely they realise that you have to be able to produce great savoury AND sweet dishes to win, and if you didn’t have the experience in both before you got into the house, you should be spending every spare moment practising.

I agree Bron, assuming neither of them takes out the prize, they would be crazy not to do a Bendy cookbook.

67 EH { 07.20.12 at 1:26 pm }

Planb – Duds: Dog turd dessert (someone else named it, not me); some tuiles with failed white chocolate ganache; fake millefeuille; whistling lungs.
Champs: Her version of snow egg/floating island during the one egg challenge; doughnuts with marshmallow, bacon, something with mayo; blue cheese ice cream cone.

To me, her duds triumph over champs.

68 Paul { 07.20.12 at 1:29 pm }

@Chunks – probably a case where the show or the contestants can’t win.

If someone started chopping away like Jamie Oliver then they would most likely be accused of being a professional.
And if someone nominated they had cooked with abalone before or had lots of experience with caviar or done everything under the sun then they would be accused of being rich or up themselves.

Personally I like the little flaws.

It’s been awful to see the ham fisted attempts at filleting fish.

Yes. More cougars next year , please Shine!

71 EH { 07.20.12 at 1:33 pm }

Gillian – I think ultimately Kylie wanted an apprenticeship with a pastry chef instead of the work experience in a restaurant. BTW, she is living her dream now working/do work experience/apprenticeshipping in a well known pattiserie in Melbourne. So, good on her.

72 Chunks { 07.20.12 at 1:34 pm }

BDD, I believe Matt M is more likely to show his bacon torpedo to one of the lads ;-)

73 Andy Pandy { 07.20.12 at 1:35 pm }

Going back to magazines I will have to admit that I have been buying New Idea for years and years, its my guilty pleasure and I really enjoy it so I guess I’m one of the people keeping someone in a job. My friend buys Woman’s Day so we just swap over, at least this way its not wasting too much money as I agree they are becoming too expensive.

74 brain dead dave { 07.20.12 at 1:40 pm }

Thanks Chunks, my first job was in a restaurant and yeah, stuff is coming back to me now. I should have covered all the bases.

When a chef suggests “chowing down” doesn’t mean he’s talking about food.

75 EH { 07.20.12 at 1:45 pm }

In my opinion, the ultimate MC dessert queen is S2 Skye.

Paul #60 – I did say difficult, not impossible. But nevermind.

BDD #61 – Matt Moran did offer S1 Justine appreanticeship in his restaurant after the series wrapped. Hint hint.

According to what I read she plays “Sam” – no doubt a bikini clad banker from WA with a penchant for bbq? *scratches head*

* No that’s not his name. Just my sound effect.

J – Those violet macarons were so pretty, but he got a lot of help from George (I can’t believe actual footage unspooled in my brain of that challenge and George telling Callum no, do the macarons again, and they were spectacular in the end; prettiest things ever), and he did do surprisingly well with the Peter Gilmore snow egg.

82 Gillian { 07.20.12 at 2:14 pm }

@EH – ‘ I am proud to be one of the many that has supported the trash industry.’ If you’re so proud of it, you shouldn’t be so offended by my opinion! I have already said in post #21 ‘And I would never deliberately insult anyone on this forum least of all you EH.’ Can we possibly move on from this … 50 posts onwards :-)

83 EH { 07.20.12 at 2:21 pm }

Gillian – The journos trashing bloggers war has lasted longer than I can remember. As I said before, I am cool. I am just voicing my opinion as you did (70 posts earlier).

Yes, I was the one who misspelt Andy Pandy as Andy Panty as I thought she changed her screen name from Andrea to Andy Panty because of Andy. It is a genuine mistake. Laugh all you want.

84 Gillian { 07.20.12 at 2:24 pm }

@EH – And I responded to your comments several times. I never mentioned anything about journos and bloggers if that comment is directed at me. You can continue this without me. Have a good day everyone :-)

85 Marepoppin { 07.20.12 at 2:57 pm }

All these ‘misunderstandings’ to read and me without my popcorn!

O frabjous day! Callooh! Callay!
1st Alanna. Now Ajay doing a naughty striptease as she slides seductively into her mumblers*…. I kid you not – http://findingmymojo.com/laughter-best-medicine/

what drugs is this mad woman on

88 Chunks { 07.20.12 at 3:32 pm }

Dear god CB, that was uncalled for. I’m going to need a stiff drink to recover!

89 EH { 07.20.12 at 3:32 pm }

@Gillian – I have added the para after I have posted my comment. You might not have read it if you read it from your email feed:

“Yes, I was the one who misspelt Andy Pandy as Andy Panty as I thought she changed her screen name from Andrea to Andy Panty because of Andy. It is a genuine mistake. Laugh all you want.”

I have said cool and stopped & you restarted it again with your comment #78 re Andy Panty vs Andy Pandy.

I have used the journos vs bloggers as an analogy to compare the opinions of people who think reading Vogue is less trashier than people who read WD.

I have nothing against you. In fact, I find you a lovely lady (and you mum is adorable) but I don’t get why you have started it with your comments #3 & #6. especially with your back paddling after you have posted your remark about your opinion on people who supported the trash industry on #6.

I don’t care if I outranked someone else as the most hated commenter on this blog but I am going to tell you as strict face as Julia has said it to her hubby, “We don’t eat cake with ice cream at home.”

That is all. I won’t touch on this topic ever again.

90 Andy Pandy { 07.20.12 at 4:01 pm }

Hi everyone! Just thought I’d weigh in here ,
I don’t mind what you call me, I take it all in good fun, don’t worry EH or Gillian, you are both nice people!
I was thinking of going back to Andrea but someone else is using that now, but I like the idea of A.P that BDD has started calling me. Its easier for everyone so let me know what you think and I could change it.
My mum used to call me Andy Pandy as a little girl after a tv show that I used to watch called “Andy Pandy”, used to have a teddy in it, flowerpot men and a talking weed! Sounds silly but I used to love it, so that’s why I went with that name.
BDD, why did you chose your name? I noticed on the SMH site someone there goes by the name Saintly Dave and I thought it might have been you incognito?

91 Baz { 07.20.12 at 4:01 pm }

I have no idea what’s going on and can’t keep up with the comments. But then again I just had a couple of beers and no lunch so I may be out of it.

So who’s misunderstanding who now?

92 brain dead dave { 07.20.12 at 4:21 pm }

Well AP, a blogger ($luggah of Bowral as I recall ) at the Daily Telegraph in 2007 suggested that people who watch Big Brother are brain dead. Now, we know that’s not true. From an anthropological, psychological and sociological point of view, it can be quite interesting.

So I prefixed my Christian name with that and made my first blog. I’ve been called every name under the Sun and have had people wish me to get cancer. Paul is small potatoes.

I prefer to dwell on the declarations of love and marriage proposals received.

I didn’t know at the time there was also a brain dead dave in Fri$co but he’s dead now, anyway, God rest his soul. Fellow muso,too.

Not long back I read an absolutely scathing online review of Altijan Juric’s one and only album and people thought I wrote it. It wasn’t me…I would have gone in a lot harder.

Reality tv contestants are the bane of the Earth. I ain’t done yet, as they say in porno movies.

93 littlepetal { 07.20.12 at 4:30 pm }

CB-Please stop watching Ajay !!!!!

94 Andy Pandy { 07.20.12 at 4:35 pm }

BDD, I must be Brain Dead Andrea then because I’ve watched all seasons of Big Brother too and I love it love it love it!The Merlin moment was the best! Can’t wait for it to start ( and on my birthday too- bonus!)

95 Culinary Boner { 07.20.12 at 4:45 pm }

littlepetal, just like the scenes in Clockwork Orange where Alex is subjected to reel-upon-reel of ultraviolence footage, so have I been strapped down, unable to blink, whilst watching Ajay flaunt her ample charms (and massive exercise tights) on a continuous repeat loop.

Just a pity about the soundtrack.

96 brain dead dave { 07.20.12 at 4:45 pm }

I’m wary of Boner’s links from experience.

As the police say, once you’ve seen something , you can’t really un-see it.

Fav Big Brother moment…Farmer Dave telling a besotted Camilla he’s gay.

97 annajjj { 07.20.12 at 4:47 pm }

AP – hello fellow Leo! I’m a bdd fan from way back. I don’t think I’ve ever proposed marriage to him but I’ve thought about it and there have definitely been declarations of love…

98 EH { 07.20.12 at 4:48 pm }

Thanks AP. I think the list of my blunders is as long as the “I’ve never” list.

99 brain dead dave { 07.20.12 at 4:53 pm }

See…and people say you catch more flies with honey than vinegar.

Thanks,annajjj

Have two close Leo friends and one sister all Aug 6 birthday.

100 littlepetal { 07.20.12 at 4:53 pm }

Oh no, now we may have a proposal soon. BDD, are you up for it?

101 A.P { 07.20.12 at 5:03 pm }

Hi Annajjj, yeah Leos are the best!
BDD is growing on me and he’s given me a new name which I like!
E.H, you’re welcome!
BDD, what about Farmer Dave having the big melt down and demanding to be let out of the house and who could forget the twins?

102 littlepetal { 07.20.12 at 5:11 pm }

Annajjj and AP-I have to agree on this one – Leos are the best :)

103 brain dead dave { 07.20.12 at 5:16 pm }

I forget the twins….or are you talking about Kry$tal’s fake puppies?

There were a couple of twins on The Biggest Loser and I spotted them buying a $***load of junk food and confectionery at a We$tfield not long after the show finished.

Not sure, littlepetal.

104 JLo (formerly known as EH) { 07.20.12 at 5:17 pm }

I think I am going to reconsider AP’s earlier suggestion (she loves both EH & JLo), JLo is a more appropriate screen name for me. A little trashier but colourful. I have always wanted to join the J trend on this blog.

105 Chunks { 07.20.12 at 5:26 pm }

The twins were the Logans who actually won their series. Well the nice Beta twin won it and the nasty Alpha one tagged along because they were treated as a single person after they failed to fool the housemates when they kept swapping places overnight at the start.

106 A.P { 07.20.12 at 5:37 pm }

Yep, the Logans BDD! Two brothers from BL, can’t remember their names, live in my home town and they’ve put weight back on too!
Hi Littlepetal Leo!
JLo, yes we both need a change so thanks to you and BDD for starting it, and Gillian! Makes it more interesting!

107 littlepetal { 07.20.12 at 5:40 pm }

EH-Please don’t change your screen name to JLo. I am having difficulty keep tracking of who is who and there are too many Js here.

BDD-What do you mean not sure? Yes, Leos are the best

108 JLo { 07.20.12 at 5:49 pm }

Sorry to disappoint you, Littlepetal. Already made up my mind.

Actually I do look like her in this picture but with a pair of glasses (frameless & not as huge as Alice). I often tie my hair in a bun at home lol.

Have a great weekend :)

109 brain dead dave { 07.20.12 at 7:03 pm }

The twin Losers I saw at Westfield were females from I think the year JJ (a pie demolishing truckie Adelaide contestant, he escaped from Camp Biggest Loser) was on the show.

I do remember Farmer Dave’s meltdown in BB. He just wasn’t ready for shallow city types that stab your back as soon as look at you.

The name Logan sure rings a bell, too, but from Bold And The Beautiful..

110 Morgan { 07.20.12 at 7:42 pm }

With all the talk of the dessert queens, perhaps next year’s Masterchef special spinoff will feature past contestants who were known for their desserts. Lik Top Chef: Just Desserts. The cast could feature:

Kate (S1)
Skye
Kate (S3) – although I’m not sure they’d bring her back for a third season.
Alana
Billy
Kylie
Julia
Emma

111 Angry of Mayfair { 07.21.12 at 1:02 am }

Bring back Kantong Kate, or Beanie Douche

112 littlepetal { 07.21.12 at 10:12 am }

Emma doesn’t fall into the above

113 Morgan { 07.21.12 at 2:19 pm }

I thought she was a dessert specialist, littlepetal.

114 brain dead dave { 07.21.12 at 2:49 pm }

Desert specialist. People taste Emma’s food, then they desert her.

Don’t know how her dream business is going in Adelaide. I’ve heard nothing at all.

Emma did say desserts were her thang. Then ,she would say that…in between the tears.

115 Anna { 07.21.12 at 2:51 pm }

Matt Preston, how could you? That baked bean soup (Tuscan Soup, my foot) was a travesty, and yes I made it. Call it an experiment. Reminded me of the tomato soup with milk that we used to have as kids. I thought that Audra was very diplomatic when tasting it.

Will future contestants get away with using baked beans and coke? I think not.

116 Dunbi { 07.21.12 at 4:01 pm }

I didn’t fancy the baked bean soup, served cold (?) with oil on top. Did laugh though when baked beans were used after our comments on them yesterday.
Wouldn’t mind giving the chicken wings a go. I thought the Masterclass was a bit of lighthearted fun and quite enjoyed it.

117 A.P { 07.21.12 at 4:08 pm }

Yes I was wondering how those dishes would taste, would be worth giving it a try. I wonder if that is the limit of Matt Preston’s cooking skills? Don’t you have to be a pretty good cook yourself to be an expert taste tester and food critic like him? Just wondering what his qualifications are?

118 Dunbi { 07.21.12 at 4:55 pm }

I have a few of Matt’s recipes. Apparently he makes very good jam.

119 brain dead dave { 07.21.12 at 5:06 pm }

Jowl$y makes a jam every time he sits next to someone.

Hi there just wanted to give you a quick heads up. The text in
your article seem to be running off the screen in Firefox.
I’m not sure if this is a format issue or something to do with internet browser compatibility but I thought I’d post to let you know.
The design look great though! Hope you get the issue solved soon.
Many thanks
