Andy Allen Wins Masterchef Series Four

There must be something in the culinary waters of NSW as it yet again produced the Masterchef winner. Andy Allen the electrician from Maitland has won series four.

At the beginning of the episode he declared “he could not cook” before he came on the show. Maybe Masterchef Australia is an express pass apprenticeship as he appears to have learnt or “grown” a lot.

Tonight he was in the final with Audra and Julia. The first challenge of the evening was to cook a hot entree for thirty five Masterchef fans. Andy cooked Tuna with Squid Ink and Cauliflower Puree, Julia cooked her take on roast beef, and Audra did Ma Hor.

Gary and George queried whether Julia’s dish was going to be an entree or a main, also Audra’s dish was more a salad than a hot dish.

The contestants got to pick two of the former contestants to help them plate up. Julia picked Mindy and Kylie, Audra selected TK and Amina, and Andy picked Ben and Beau. Interestingly Mindy was yelling down from the balcony to assist Audra.

Julia’s entree scored the highest points so she was safe, and it was Audra who was sent to the balcony. A few points must have been knocked off for her dish not fitting the brief, and also it was chilli hot and that never goes down well with George.

The second challenge was to invent a new Australian dish. Andy re-invented the seafood platter and Julia made smoke lamb with lemon myrtle potatoes. Again Julia was asked whether she was being inventive enough, something they did not ask Andy.

Unfortunately for her the lamb was raw and inedible. She was lucky to get a seven from each judge to keep her in touch with the now leading Andy. Matt Preston loved Andy’s modern seafood platter so much he gave it a ten.

The dessert was Christine Mansfield take on a Golden Gaytime. Unfortunately for Julia she did not deliver on it and again Andy won and therefore was anointed the winner.

He wins $100,000 and a cookbook deal, but apparently he has a deal with Ben to give him half the prize money.

Julia was given $15,000 to help set up her shop, and also Adriano Zumbo offered her a paid apprenticeship. She did accept it, however it will be interesting to see how that goes in the future.

Andy will be a popular winner, but did the best cook win, I don’t think so. But in Masterchef you are only as good as your last dish.

Great to see you rr and looking forward to tonight. Had to laugh at the footage of Audra jumping so high into someones arms she wraps her legs around his chest-

2 annajjj { 07.25.12 at 7:09 pm }

Expect to see lots of tears and emotional recaps tonight too

3 Reality Raver { 07.25.12 at 7:11 pm }

LOL the Audra jump she needs to trademark it. I am enjoying seeing the evolution of Andy’s hairstyles. He has turned much more heterosexual.

4 Carls { 07.25.12 at 7:13 pm }

Why must these recaps take sooooo long?! and Yes RR he sure said he’s cooking was disgraceful! Amazing he made it to the top 24 :)

5 Reality Raver { 07.25.12 at 7:14 pm }

Carls Ok so he has “grown” and he has been “transformed” but agree he should not win.

6 Carls { 07.25.12 at 7:16 pm }

I still entirely agree with you that my eyes want him to win though.

7 Reality Raver { 07.25.12 at 7:16 pm }

Don’t usually spruik non-reality on blog but Puberty Blues looks good and also nostalgic.

8 Isabel { 07.25.12 at 7:17 pm }

And Andy said his Mum can’t cook!

9 Reality Raver { 07.25.12 at 7:18 pm }

Carls – LOL – he has been the hottest MC contestant in four seasons.

Also should clarify last comment – the nostalgia was not because of panel vans was thinking more phones hooked to walls, and tape recorders. Also Passion Pop!

10 littlepetal { 07.25.12 at 7:18 pm }

Still no cooking? I need to get a cuppa. It’s a long night

11 Reality Raver { 07.25.12 at 7:18 pm }

Isabel – Maybe it is genetic.

12 annajjj { 07.25.12 at 7:18 pm }

Chock full of ads which is only to be expected but still annoying. If only we didn’t have to recap the last two minutes after every ad break. I’m impressed that Julia didn’t break down and cry even under all that pressure but I think her coolness is the reason she doesn’t have as many fans. I think shes great

13 Baz { 07.25.12 at 7:19 pm }

I miss Sam and his arms.

14 Reality Raver { 07.25.12 at 7:20 pm }

Little Petal – I reckon another 10 minutes before we see a knife. What do you think the first challenge will be?

15 Carls { 07.25.12 at 7:20 pm }

Wonder if they’ll have lots of emotional pans to Ben’s face for Andy, maybe he even might bang his head on the wall, just like Andy did for him. #Bandy is still well and truly alive.

16 Baz { 07.25.12 at 7:21 pm }

21 minutes in and counting…

The real winner tonight will be Christine Manfield’s Gaytime Goes Nuts. And me, once they put the recipe up :)

17 Reality Raver { 07.25.12 at 7:22 pm }

Baz – It was the year of the guns this year. Sam, Andy, Wade, and Beau.

Annajjj- oh yes and on the foxtel recording you had to record two shows as they had the winner announced.

18 annajjj { 07.25.12 at 7:22 pm }

Today they are feeding masterchef fans but did any of us get invited????

19 Maz { 07.25.12 at 7:22 pm }

Feeding Masterchef fans? How were they choosen? Would have love to see BDD & Georgie swapping commentary on that:)

20 Cherkin { 07.25.12 at 7:23 pm }

All the blondes together. A recipe for disaster?

21 A.P { 07.25.12 at 7:23 pm }

Audra just jumped aMINA

22 Maz { 07.25.12 at 7:24 pm }

Big shock Andy picks Ben!

That shade of pink really suits Amina.

23 Baz { 07.25.12 at 7:24 pm }

The Boys vs The Blondes vs The Asian Sistas

24 Carls { 07.25.12 at 7:25 pm }

Three blondes, three Asians & three boys! HMMMMMMMMMM

25 Cherkin { 07.25.12 at 7:25 pm }

Audra does Asian. Boring.

26 annajjj { 07.25.12 at 7:25 pm }

So we will get rid of the first one pretty quickly then. Surprising that Julia picked Mindy.

27 A.P { 07.25.12 at 7:25 pm }

Asian cooking Audra, what else is new?

28 Baz { 07.25.12 at 7:26 pm }

The way Ben and Andy looks at each other…

They’re more romantic than my boy and I :\

29 Calliegirl { 07.25.12 at 7:26 pm }

Loving this live blogging – thanks RR…xx

30 Reality Raver { 07.25.12 at 7:26 pm }

I think TK was the shock pick by Audra she did not put up a god dish. But she is going to pick Asian which obviously TK knows well.

31 Carls { 07.25.12 at 7:27 pm }

It’s like Romeo and Juliet from the balcony for #Bandy

32 brain dead dave { 07.25.12 at 7:27 pm }

I’m shattered that I didn’t get an invite. Have fun, it’s just about to start here. I’m confused, ‘cos last night was garbage night.

I’ll be back.

33 Reality Raver { 07.25.12 at 7:27 pm }

Calliegirl – I am enjoying it as well. xxx

34 A.P { 07.25.12 at 7:28 pm }

Why is squid ink so popular?

35 Cherkin { 07.25.12 at 7:28 pm }

Ooh, that cauliflower and squid ink mess looks awful.

36 Carls { 07.25.12 at 7:29 pm }

Has anyone ever tried squid ink? What’s it like? Anything it can compare to?

37 Baz { 07.25.12 at 7:29 pm }

RR – 2012 was definitely a good year for the ladies ;)

38 annajjj { 07.25.12 at 7:29 pm }

Where can you buy squid ink in a jar! Cole’s? Mindy offers support to audra hmmmmmm. Maybe a bad choice by Julia picking her?

39 Isabel { 07.25.12 at 7:30 pm }

They are having a go at Julia again

40 A.P { 07.25.12 at 7:30 pm }

Picking on Julia’s entree as usual, just saw you on Current Affair RR, its on the same time here as Masterchef so had to switch over for a bit.

41 Daze { 07.25.12 at 7:30 pm }

once again G&G being Prats to Julia, aaarrrgghh

42 littlepetal { 07.25.12 at 7:31 pm }

Can’t I get squid ink from Coles?

43 Georgie { 07.25.12 at 7:31 pm }

George stop f*****g with Julia’s head you moron!

Yes annajjj my thoughts exactly re. Mindy helping Audra.

44 Cherkin { 07.25.12 at 7:32 pm }

Poor Julia. They’re so mean to her but she handles it really well.

45 Reality Raver { 07.25.12 at 7:32 pm }

Carls – Squid Ink is salty – I ahve had it a couple of times. Not sure why they are so obsessed about it.

What was the dish called that Audra is making?

46 Isabel { 07.25.12 at 7:32 pm }

George has got a gra-er for his bu-er!

47 littlepetal { 07.25.12 at 7:32 pm }

Miss RR again!!!

RR can you let us know that you are going to be on tele

48 Suziekue { 07.25.12 at 7:32 pm }

Bully boys with Julia again!!!!

49 Reality Raver { 07.25.12 at 7:33 pm }

AP – Agree they love picking on her. I think her dish sound delicious. Much better than Andy’s cauliflower.
So they just get help plating up from the other two contestants.

50 Maz { 07.25.12 at 7:34 pm }

@littlepetal #42 Well it is where the masterchef shops :)

51 A.P { 07.25.12 at 7:35 pm }

Why is Mindy cheering on Audra?

52 Reality Raver { 07.25.12 at 7:35 pm }

Wowl got to pay Audra’s egg net.

Why the f**k is Mindy yelling out for Audra. Also why are they allowed to yell out at all in the final?

53 Carls { 07.25.12 at 7:35 pm }

Awww I miss Andrew. Loved his dry comment re: egg net

54 Cherkin { 07.25.12 at 7:35 pm }

Yet another “I haven’t done xyz before”.

55 bron { 07.25.12 at 7:36 pm }

mindy, FFS.

56 Reality Raver { 07.25.12 at 7:36 pm }

Little Petal – I missed it myself. I will put up link. I need to spend more than 2 mintues on eye make up.

57 annajjj { 07.25.12 at 7:36 pm }

Hopefully not facebook fans

58 Georgie { 07.25.12 at 7:36 pm }

That balcony’s going to collapse.

59 Maz { 07.25.12 at 7:37 pm }

Did Julia just say that she has never cooked with a thermal circulator before? Is that list worthy JLo?

60 Reality Raver { 07.25.12 at 7:38 pm }

Maz – no because what is a thermal circulator? Is that the sous vide.

BTW Mindy did yell out to Julia as well.

61 Baz { 07.25.12 at 7:38 pm }

I hope Ben washed his hands after licking his finger…

LOL Andy likes to tell me what to do. Sounds hot Ben.

62 Reality Raver { 07.25.12 at 7:39 pm }

Great piece of Tuna not sure about about the rest of it. ANdy could be in trouble.

63 Carls { 07.25.12 at 7:39 pm }

Soooo many jokes to be made with Ben’s camera piece about Andy telling him what to do. None of them clean.

64 annajjj { 07.25.12 at 7:39 pm }

3hours of missin plus is up yells Matt. How come they all have problems with pronounciation?

65 Reality Raver { 07.25.12 at 7:39 pm }

Baz – yeah I noticed the lick

66 A.P { 07.25.12 at 7:40 pm }

Andy’s and Julie’s looks great!

67 Jas { 07.25.12 at 7:40 pm }

How does 3bits of apple and 3 bits of radish make an “apple and radish salad?”

68 Cherkin { 07.25.12 at 7:40 pm }

Julia’s dish looks great.

69 Reality Raver { 07.25.12 at 7:40 pm }

Audra’s entree looks large

70 A.P { 07.25.12 at 7:41 pm }

Audra is losing it!

71 anon { 07.25.12 at 7:41 pm }

what’s with the OTT pep of Mindy and Kylie???

72 annajjj { 07.25.12 at 7:41 pm }

Audra and egg nets crack under pressure

73 Brad { 07.25.12 at 7:43 pm }

what is wrong with audra cooking asian? If she cooked italian or french all the time, no one would think twice. ANd btw “Asian” is not a single cuisine.

74 littlepetal { 07.25.12 at 7:43 pm }

Audra can’t cope with pressure. Egg net is a risky thing to do. It’s get soggy after a while.

75 annajjj { 07.25.12 at 7:44 pm }

Anon @71 maybe Andy’s mum told them they were there to add the salt and pep

76 Daze { 07.25.12 at 7:44 pm }

Audra is dropping the bundle again – if it’s too hot in the kitchen………….. get out ! lol

77 Dunbi { 07.25.12 at 7:44 pm }

Love the look of Julia’s. Not so keen on Andy’s squid ink cauliflower. Audra’s offering looks enormous – maybe it’s the salad.

78 Daze { 07.25.12 at 7:45 pm }

It’s great to see Amina and TK again

Julia’s presentation looks fantastic

79 Baz { 07.25.12 at 7:47 pm }

Brad @ 73. Agreed. It’s no different to Julia making dessert or Andy doing seafood all the time. There’s nothing wrong with specialising in one cuisine. They have all proven that they could cook different things so I don’t see the problem.

80 A.P { 07.25.12 at 7:47 pm }

They like Julia’s WINNER! Yeah, be quiet Gary!

81 annajjj { 07.25.12 at 7:47 pm }

I don’t think id be as trusting of Mindy as Julia is. Why do the judges reserve their compliments for when Julia is not around. George be nice to the girl! George as usual wants more seasoning

82 brain dead dave { 07.25.12 at 7:48 pm }

I’m getting pumped that Julia is doing well over here.

83 Reality Raver { 07.25.12 at 7:48 pm }

Oh that seasoning has tricked Julia up.

84 Jazzcat { 07.25.12 at 7:49 pm }

Julia’s dish looked amazing – so up yours G&G

85 annajjj { 07.25.12 at 7:49 pm }

More salt and pep George?

86 Reality Raver { 07.25.12 at 7:49 pm }

Oh the judge liked Andy’s puree. Maybe he will be safe.

87 Baz { 07.25.12 at 7:51 pm }

Looks like they liked hers best. Noooooooo

88 A.P { 07.25.12 at 7:51 pm }

Gary is salivating again!

89 Reality Raver { 07.25.12 at 7:52 pm }

Quick question – Audra did not really follow the brief should that see her eliminated?

90 annajjj { 07.25.12 at 7:53 pm }

Its making Gary salivate (and sweat by the looks of it) I wonder how the fans are lking it? Thats it the fans have been scuttled out the back door so we can watch the first elim…look away bdd

91 bron { 07.25.12 at 7:53 pm }

someone told me that if andy wins, he’s splitting the money with ben because they made a pact. confirm/deny??

92 Cherkin { 07.25.12 at 7:55 pm }

Yay Julia.

93 A.P { 07.25.12 at 7:55 pm }

Gary, just put your own salt on! Matt and George loved it!

94 brain dead dave { 07.25.12 at 7:56 pm }

If Audra’s the first cull, I’m not looking away.The amatas are still getting stuff out of the pantry here.

95 Baz { 07.25.12 at 7:56 pm }

FIREBALL

96 Culinary Boner { 07.25.12 at 7:56 pm }

George’s score for Julia reinforces my theory that deep down he wants to play Frodo to her Galadriel

97 littlepetal { 07.25.12 at 7:56 pm }

Emma is going to cry

98 A.P { 07.25.12 at 7:57 pm }

Bron, yes, Ben said that on The Project tonight. Agree Audra didn’t listen to the brief.

99 Reality Raver { 07.25.12 at 7:58 pm }

CB – LOL.

I bet George knocked off Audra a few points because her dish had chilli in it. It must be frustrating for her.

100 littlepetal { 07.25.12 at 7:58 pm }

Julia’s dish got to be good. If not, George would not have given such a high score.

101 A.P { 07.25.12 at 7:58 pm }

BDD, its a shame you are half an hour behind!

102 littlepetal { 07.25.12 at 7:59 pm }

Julia is on track to lead in the scoreboard

103 Daze { 07.25.12 at 7:59 pm }

Looks like Audra’s gone……. waiting for Andy’s score (beat Audra by 1 point?)

104 annajjj { 07.25.12 at 7:59 pm }

Andy I scored your dish…..a flaming masterchef and ads.
Really enjoying everyones comments tonight.
recap again when we return to draw this out because we have to fill three hours and who wants to see cooking after all

105 Reality Raver { 07.25.12 at 7:59 pm }

AP and Bron – Ben got the best end of that deal. If Andy wins that could be the end of the bromance if money is involved.

106 Baz { 07.25.12 at 7:59 pm }

CB – for a game of Hide The Golden Ring?

107 Jazzcat { 07.25.12 at 8:00 pm }

Happy now! Julia deserves to be in the top 2 Go Julia

108 Daze { 07.25.12 at 8:00 pm }

Andy got an 8 from Matt P, he’s thru!

109 A.P { 07.25.12 at 8:00 pm }

Fantastic!

110 Daze { 07.25.12 at 8:01 pm }

Bye Bye Audra; loved watching your passion – good luck!

111 Culinary Boner { 07.25.12 at 8:01 pm }

Yeah under the Pillow of Doom

112 Buzzy { 07.25.12 at 8:02 pm }

how could they send Audra home?

113 A.P { 07.25.12 at 8:02 pm }

Audra jumped Matt!

114 Calliegirl { 07.25.12 at 8:02 pm }

Yuk of course Audra had to wrap herself around Matt – don’t think he was very happy about it…

115 Maz { 07.25.12 at 8:02 pm }

Only Matt P got the wrap around leg hug.

Still think Audra will get a cookbook out of this.

116 Reality Raver { 07.25.12 at 8:02 pm }

Wow maybe ANdy might win.

117 Suziekue { 07.25.12 at 8:03 pm }

Whaaaaa? raw fish is not a hot dish either!!!

118 Carls { 07.25.12 at 8:03 pm }

Trademark leap onto Matt! I almost expected her to slowly slide down due to lack of grip around his large waist.

119 annajjj { 07.25.12 at 8:03 pm }

Audra throws herself at Matt and he just manages to close his legs and avoid being nutted at the last second

120 brain dead dave { 07.25.12 at 8:03 pm }

Go for home, Julia. Put a gap in ‘em!

121 Reality Raver { 07.25.12 at 8:04 pm }

Buzzy – her dish was more a salad I think they all probably knocked a point off for that. Also George is NOT a fan of chilli.

122 Culinary Boner { 07.25.12 at 8:04 pm }

Do they get to cook a Drop Bear?

123 annajjj { 07.25.12 at 8:04 pm }

Maybe Julia will.make a pav?

124 Carls { 07.25.12 at 8:06 pm }

Someone yells out: What are you making Andy?
Ben: Leave him alone!
Ouch.

125 Cherkin { 07.25.12 at 8:06 pm }

If in doubt, add more butter!

126 A.P { 07.25.12 at 8:07 pm }

I think Andy could win the main. Picking on Julia again, is it inventive enough?

127 Maz { 07.25.12 at 8:07 pm }

What no witchetty grubs???Would love to see the judges gag on that?

128 annajjj { 07.25.12 at 8:07 pm }

Lol! CB

129 Reality Rantings { 07.25.12 at 8:07 pm }

You might recall that I gave as a spoiler over a week ago that a “friend of a friend” disclosed to me that the filming had occurred and Julia and Andy were the final two. Seems my source was on the money. Boom!

130 brain dead dave { 07.25.12 at 8:08 pm }

We call them “Yowies ” in SA , Boner. My mate used to take USA tourists looking for “Yowies” for a lark.

131 Calliegirl { 07.25.12 at 8:08 pm }

Matt was so mean to Julia just then – I’m not sure Lamb is an Australian Dish – Hello!!

132 Reality Raver { 07.25.12 at 8:09 pm }

I note Matt Preston didn’t ask Andy whether it was inventive enough. He is making a seafood basket.

133 Reality Raver { 07.25.12 at 8:09 pm }

Reality Rantings – can you text your mate and find out who wins?

134 Anonymous { 07.25.12 at 8:09 pm }

Why does Masterchef not want the best cook to win

135 Suziekue { 07.25.12 at 8:10 pm }

Why don’t they leave Julia alone!!! Fair suck of the sav!

136 Culinary Boner { 07.25.12 at 8:10 pm }

If I recall correctly in an earlier episode someone’s already done a plate of Bondi Cigars

137 Reality Raver { 07.25.12 at 8:10 pm }

Susiekue #117 – good point

138 planb { 07.25.12 at 8:11 pm }

WHOOOOOO-HOOOOOOOO!

AND Audra pulled out my fantasized Matt P frog hump!

WHOOOOOO-HOOOOOO!!!

139 annajjj { 07.25.12 at 8:12 pm }

AP I agree. The constant picking on julia is tedious. It always seems to be a bit of a red herring as she gets through everytime. I love that there is nothing negative on the blogc tonight but I do have to hate tregans tights

140 Picnic { 07.25.12 at 8:13 pm }

Matt was a bit curt with Julia, they all have a go, enjoying this heaps

141 Reality Raver { 07.25.12 at 8:13 pm }

She is smoking meat for the first time in the finale. Bold

142 A.P { 07.25.12 at 8:14 pm }

Never smoked lamb before? At least she’s trying. ben giving advice to Andy and stressing!

143 Culinary Boner { 07.25.12 at 8:15 pm }

So julia’s trying to get the smoke flavour of a pissy Sunday arvo barbie but is glamorising it as bringing back all them wonderful memories we have about bushfires?

144 Reality Raver { 07.25.12 at 8:15 pm }

There should be no yelling out from the balcony at this stage on the competition.
If Andy wins for shucking oysters…..

145 JLo { 07.25.12 at 8:15 pm }

I was there (one of the lucky MC fans). That’s all I can say. Enjoyed the season. Thanks RR for your great blog. See you all next year :)

146 annajjj { 07.25.12 at 8:15 pm }

Love Andrew making comments and stressing for Julia. Both he and ben look so nervous

147 Baz { 07.25.12 at 8:15 pm }

So what would Audra make in this challenge?

148 Reality Raver { 07.25.12 at 8:16 pm }

What is Andy doing with the flathead.
Tregan looks bored.

149 A.P { 07.25.12 at 8:16 pm }

Hard looking at the tv and doing this at the same time but its fun, we shoulkd do this all the time!

150 Carls { 07.25.12 at 8:16 pm }

Is anyone else annoyed at Mindy’s constant yammering from the balcony to Julia?

151 dmc { 07.25.12 at 8:17 pm }

Two left handers in the final two.

152 annajjj { 07.25.12 at 8:17 pm }

Really JLo? That’s great news. What did you get to eat and how was it?

153 Culinary Boner { 07.25.12 at 8:18 pm }

Andy’s serving skink tails

154 Von { 07.25.12 at 8:18 pm }

Hi RR and all!

Have been lurking here for weeks, and almost at the end of the show, wanted to make 1 comment myself! :)
I reallly just want to thank you for your amazing blog and comments!
I have been watching MC Uk for years, and have seen the previous series of MC Australia. This year I was watching the show over the Internet, as is has not been broadcasted here in The Netherlands.
MC Uk is about food. Great food and amzing chefs. I feel Mc Australia has lots more show, emotions and fun it. I loved it the past years!
But I must say, after the episode when Mindy got her Immunity pin for sliced fruit, I couldn’t watch anymore! Also the behaviour of the judges ( G and G) was/is awfull.
And then I discovered this blog and so I still now what’s going on without having to sit in front of my tv with grinding teeth! :)
So for that: THANKS RR!
Hoping to “see” you for the next MC show!
Greetings from The Netherlands!

Von.

155 A.P { 07.25.12 at 8:19 pm }

JLo, how did you get to be there? You never said. So you know the winner?

156 Wannabecook { 07.25.12 at 8:19 pm }

How come they can get help from the gallery during finale aka Ben telling Andy how to get abalone out.

157 Jazzcat { 07.25.12 at 8:19 pm }

I think I’d rather eat Julias dish

158 Reality Raver { 07.25.12 at 8:19 pm }

Andy’s dish looks dry

159 Reality Raver { 07.25.12 at 8:19 pm }

I reckon that they will give Andy the win on the main so there is some tension for the dessert

160 A.P { 07.25.12 at 8:21 pm }

JLo, I hope you are going to comment on All stars and we hear from you before next year!

161 Reality Raver { 07.25.12 at 8:21 pm }

Hi Von – I love The Netherlands and very chuffed to have had a reader living there.

162 Jazzcat { 07.25.12 at 8:24 pm }

RR thanks for the blog – if shine do mc next year I’ll be reading your blog and not putting myself thru the agony of watching

163 Carls { 07.25.12 at 8:24 pm }

That lamb looks awfully raw to me…and I do like my meat rare…

164 Maz { 07.25.12 at 8:25 pm }

JLo-you have to spill your guts (once confidentiality agreement lapses)

165 brain dead dave { 07.25.12 at 8:26 pm }

Cheers to you,Von.

Julia’s just cracked her 9/10 here. Running o/time here anyway.Back later .

166 A.P { 07.25.12 at 8:28 pm }

Judges not too impressed with Julia’s dish, Andy will win this one, his dish is plated well

167 annajjj { 07.25.12 at 8:29 pm }

Not impressed with using roof tiles as plates. Went to a degustation restaurant a few weeks ago and every course was served on tiles. Scratchy nasty things to eat off.

168 Georgie { 07.25.12 at 8:29 pm }

Why do the stooges persist in asking such dumb-arsed questions? Sheesh!

169 Reality Raver { 07.25.12 at 8:30 pm }

Jazzcat – Will you be sticking around for all stars?

Agree the lamb is raw.

170 Baz { 07.25.12 at 8:31 pm }

Lol Georgie, for once I just want to see them eat with their mouths open and lick their knives. There’s only so much of their yabbering I can take.

171 librarygirl { 07.25.12 at 8:32 pm }

those tiles do look scratchy. Knives and forks on them would be like fingernails on a blackboard.

172 Carls { 07.25.12 at 8:32 pm }

So my prediction = Andy will catch up on the main (even go in the lead by a point or tie it up) and Julia will win off the back of dessert.

173 Reality Raver { 07.25.12 at 8:33 pm }

annajjj – it is a trend the tiles, like the wooden board.

Actually Andy’s doesn’t look too bad on reflection.

174 Culinary Boner { 07.25.12 at 8:33 pm }

Audra could have done sweet and sour pork

175 littlepetal { 07.25.12 at 8:33 pm }

JLo was right. Where is Paul? Maybe curfew time

176 Dunbi { 07.25.12 at 8:33 pm }

Andy’s got this for sure. He did well.

177 brain dead dave { 07.25.12 at 8:35 pm }

Time to hit the mute button~ that peanut gallery is doing my head in.

178 planb { 07.25.12 at 8:35 pm }

I’ve been sulking all day because I believed the Andy doesn’t make the final two pseudo-spoilers I accidentally spoiled myself with… Even if he doesn’t win, hooray!

Boy it’s Julia-heavy over here tonight. I think they ask her questions for the great shots of her fuses blowing afterwards, while Andy just casually said they do it to make you second-guess yourself and carried on.

179 Adrian { 07.25.12 at 8:35 pm }

What’s with all the radish from Andy? And seafood basket? Not particularly inventive.

180 Reality Raver { 07.25.12 at 8:38 pm }

Adrian – Does Andy have a radish fetish?

181 A.P { 07.25.12 at 8:38 pm }

Poor Julia, happy with a seven. Good work Andy!

182 lulu { 07.25.12 at 8:39 pm }

Bye Julia

183 Dr T { 07.25.12 at 8:40 pm }

Just managed to tear myself away from the patients and get in front of a TV… is Emma on the balcony without a beanie???

184 Baz { 07.25.12 at 8:40 pm }

Matt – Do you think you’ve done it?
Andy – Just tell me. Just tell me and get it over and done with.

That’s what we’ve been yelling at the tv for the past couple of months.

185 A.P { 07.25.12 at 8:44 pm }

Littlepetal, JLo had a secret all this time, wish we were all invited! Christine Mansfield looks scary! Fireball!

186 annajjj { 07.25.12 at 8:44 pm }

Happy with either of these two winning really. Chopping boards, tiles, personally I like my dinnner served on a cookbook.

187 Jazzcat { 07.25.12 at 8:45 pm }

RR – I will have a taste of the All Stars! Will you be blogging?

188 Georgie { 07.25.12 at 8:48 pm }

How phallic is that!

189 brain dead dave { 07.25.12 at 8:53 pm }

You mean the fatheads plonked for the flathead?

Male winner this year for $hine? Good for business.

190 Daze { 07.25.12 at 8:53 pm }

JLo for your list Andy; haven’t made ice cream, haven’t made honeycomb
Wow, Andy smashed his main!
The dessert looks frightening and frightfully penis-y

191 Fred { 07.25.12 at 8:53 pm }

https://twitter.com/dombrett/status/228038342737031169

looks like Andy’s getting absolutely laid tonight. BY A WOMAN. Woah. (remember THIS chick from Top 50)?

192 Reality Raver { 07.25.12 at 8:54 pm }

Jazzcat – sure will be.

Christ the site just crashed you should have heard the phone call I just made……

193 A.P { 07.25.12 at 8:54 pm }

Poor Andy, so many things he hasn’t done before! that gaytime looks awesome!

194 Reality Raver { 07.25.12 at 8:55 pm }

Both are having gelatine issues.

195 annajjj { 07.25.12 at 8:56 pm }

Did we crash the site with all thpostings? Or did bdd pull the plug do we dont spoil it …..loved Andy’s comment its a gaytime on steroids! The mind boggles!

196 A.P { 07.25.12 at 8:57 pm }

I thought my computer had blown up!

197 Culinary Boner { 07.25.12 at 8:57 pm }

was andy’s masculinity threatened by the *ahem* homo-geneous paste

198 brain dead dave { 07.25.12 at 8:57 pm }

Yes, site crashed for me here about 8.30 EST.OK now.

199 Reality Raver { 07.25.12 at 8:58 pm }

Hey Fred, she looks cute but what is more interesting is that Kylie is openly barracking for Andy on Twitter

200 Cherkin { 07.25.12 at 8:59 pm }

That desert looks sooooooo yummy

201 Maz { 07.25.12 at 8:59 pm }

Fancypants???

202 A.P { 07.25.12 at 9:00 pm }

Keep quiet peanut gallery, Julia is flustered!

203 Reality Raver { 07.25.12 at 9:00 pm }

Julia is stuffed.

204 anonymouse { 07.25.12 at 9:00 pm }

Come on Julia. Didn’t blame her nearly getting snappy at the idiots on the balcony, how the hell is she supposed to be ‘zen’???

205 Fred { 07.25.12 at 9:00 pm }

RR, so are we getting Kylie vs. Dom? Andy basically admitted to a magazine that he wants to stuff Dom and he had all that time with Kylie and yet nothing happened.

Dom doesn’t seem nearly as pretty as Kylie, but I think Andy likes his girls dumpy and drunk. So good on him. He’ll have plenty more when he wins.

206 Reality Raver { 07.25.12 at 9:01 pm }

Um where is the dessert?

207 Maz { 07.25.12 at 9:01 pm }

Daze #189-think caramel is another that needs to be added to that list.

208 Carls { 07.25.12 at 9:02 pm }

Longest Coles ad in the world!

209 Dr T { 07.25.12 at 9:03 pm }

This Coles spot would have cost a bit…

210 littlepetal { 07.25.12 at 9:03 pm }

Who is this Dom? I can’t remember her being in the Top 50? She is in Sydney at the moment

211 lulu { 07.25.12 at 9:03 pm }

Bye Julia …. shattered.

212 annajjj { 07.25.12 at 9:03 pm }

Would have loved to see Julia turn to the peanut gallery and tell them to stfu already! George gets in on the screaming just to helpfully remind them they have ten seconds left.

213 Culinary Boner { 07.25.12 at 9:04 pm }

Can golfers out there borrow the peanut gallery this weekend to put their competition off their game?

214 Socs { 07.25.12 at 9:05 pm }

Is it wrong to ask the peanut gallery to ‘shut the f up’? I’m nervous for the both of them.

215 brain dead dave { 07.25.12 at 9:05 pm }

So glad I’ve muted the idiots on the balcony. Andy getting advice on how to shuck an oyster etc. Just stfu if this is now an individual comp.

We must be soul mates ,Socs. Same thought ,same time. Ditto, Boner.

The balcony sucks.

216 Maz { 07.25.12 at 9:07 pm }

World’s longest Coles ad. Are we going to be subject to Woolies’ next break?

217 A.P { 07.25.12 at 9:07 pm }

Good comments on Julia’s dessert!

218 Fred { 07.25.12 at 9:09 pm }

God, how much longer is this fucking finale? Can I go now?

219 missdt { 07.25.12 at 9:09 pm }

i like your recaps, so was a bit disappointed at what you thought was ‘liveblogging’

220 A.P { 07.25.12 at 9:10 pm }

Andy did well!

221 JStar { 07.25.12 at 9:10 pm }

Guys, I’m trying to secretly read this blog as I’m at work. Who was the peanut gallery barracking for overall?

222 Carls { 07.25.12 at 9:11 pm }

Andy looks to have this in the bag. As well as above mentioned chick in the sack. win win for him.

223 Reality Raver { 07.25.12 at 9:11 pm }

Can’t see Andy losing.

LOL Fred.
Anonymouse agree I was hoping Julia was going to scream at the balcony

224 alicia { 07.25.12 at 9:11 pm }

Gosh when is this going to end

225 littlepetal { 07.25.12 at 9:12 pm }

LOL. JLO has been gagged. Can’t blog until the fat lady sings

226 A.P { 07.25.12 at 9:12 pm }

Dr T, you finished work? Can’t wait to find out the winner.

227 Socs { 07.25.12 at 9:13 pm }

Oh BDD, if only I was so lucky to be your soul mate, I would be privy to good music and witty comments! You’ve already had a marriage proposal, so I shan’t give you another one. XD

228 Reality Raver { 07.25.12 at 9:13 pm }

Missdt – Sorry I am having fun chatting not something I get to do much.

Tomorrow morning there will be a blog post analysing series 4, and it will be recaps on masterchef All-Stars tomorrow night.

BTW are all the challenges on All-stars be ones that have already occurred in previous seasons?

229 Fred { 07.25.12 at 9:14 pm }

Above mentioned chick was in the Top 50 but didn’t really do much beyond look (Sort of) pretty…and she’s a total Andy fangirl. She’ll be the first of all the 10000s of girls he bangs after he wins Masterchef.

Which is obvious by this point.

230 littlepetal { 07.25.12 at 9:14 pm }

Andy to win.

231 Georgie { 07.25.12 at 9:14 pm }

Yep all over bar the shouting (shut up peanuts). Andy is Australia’s next MC – doh!

232 Culinary Boner { 07.25.12 at 9:15 pm }

please, please, no draw

233 anonymouse { 07.25.12 at 9:15 pm }

Well, I reckon it’s Andy definitely and that’s a shame cos I probably won’t buy his cookbook, and though he’s pretty he’s no rocket scientist. Hope Julia does well for herself though, self assured blondes FTW!

234 Harry High Pants { 07.25.12 at 9:17 pm }

It was pre-ordained weeks ago that Andy, despite his very ordinary skills should win because it is a popularity contest and realtionless girls determine the winners of all these shows. Could the judges have been any more overtly biased? They made sure that Andy had a big enough lead to win the Melbourne Cup before the desert challenge.mno credibility whatsoever.

235 Harry High Pants { 07.25.12 at 9:19 pm }

Andy a Masterchef …. You must be joking.

236 Culinary Boner { 07.25.12 at 9:20 pm }

the Cleo Bachelor of the Year mag-skanks are wetting ‘emselves with Andy’s impending victory

237 Ari { 07.25.12 at 9:21 pm }

The show just started in Perth. And I checked wikipedia. I know the winner. I hate myself.

238 Harry High Pants { 07.25.12 at 9:21 pm }

Get new judges for the next series . These ones are a joke.

239 Georgie { 07.25.12 at 9:25 pm }

Man oh man they drag this out to the last flaming breath.

240 Reality Raver { 07.25.12 at 9:26 pm }

Before it ends I just want to thank you all who participated tonight it has been a lot of fun, and a nice way to end the Masterchef series.

If you are only MC fans and don’t watch other reality TV hopefully I will see you again next year. If you have only discovered the blog and you are reality fans please continue reading as there is still a lot of reality on this year. And of course thank you to all my regular readers.

241 Baz { 07.25.12 at 9:29 pm }

Thanks for everything RR!

242 Suziekue { 07.25.12 at 9:30 pm }

What a nonsense confected outcome!

243 Maz { 07.25.12 at 9:31 pm }

No wonder Maitland Mercury was bragging about their interview tomorrow.

244 Carls { 07.25.12 at 9:31 pm }

Thanks for the blog tonight RR! Lots of fun, can’t wait for All Stars!

245 A.P { 07.25.12 at 9:31 pm }

Congratulations Andy, boys turn to win this year. Bad luck Julia!

246 Socs { 07.25.12 at 9:32 pm }

I just realised that this is my first Masterchef finale as I’ve been abroad for the past 3 years at this time.
I do like Andy though, he’s really quite genuine, and really quite funny.

247 Dr T { 07.25.12 at 9:33 pm }

No, working nights… been a good night so far…

Very happy with the result tonight, and with what Julia got as well

248 Reality Raver { 07.25.12 at 9:34 pm }

Wow Andy won – maybe it is an apprenticeship as he admitted he could not cook prior to coming into it.

249 annajjj { 07.25.12 at 9:34 pm }

Thank you rr I really enjoyed tonight

250 A.P { 07.25.12 at 9:34 pm }

Fantastic news for Julia for getting an apprenticeship with Zumbo! Very pleased with the outcome!

251 Maz { 07.25.12 at 9:35 pm }

Julia was very gracious. Wishing her all the best in the future.

Thanks RR for doing the heavy MC slog again this year.

252 Dr T { 07.25.12 at 9:36 pm }

Thanks for the blog RR

253 Fi { 07.25.12 at 9:36 pm }

Rarely comment but read all the recaps.. Thanks rr for the fantastic recaps and thanks to the regular commentators for an amusing read.
So glad Andy won!

254 Fred { 07.25.12 at 9:37 pm }

Andy wins! WOOH! And now a night of booze and sex for Australia’s sexiest Masterchef winner!

255 Culinary Boner { 07.25.12 at 9:39 pm }

Good luck Andy.
Tough luck Julia.
Now bring on Badenoch!

256 alicia { 07.25.12 at 9:41 pm }

Julia and her sister were so cute. The way she was with her sister and the way she accepted the result really increased my respect for her. Hope she does well whatever it is she ends up doing.

257 Gillian { 07.25.12 at 9:41 pm }

Thanks RR and the other talented posters from BDD to Paul! I got home late and caught up with you all. But c’mon, I could tell Julia hadn’t won from her recaps throughout the show. They have to stop filming them after the show or at least give the contestants time to calm down. It’s a dead giveaway.

258 littlepetal { 07.25.12 at 9:41 pm }

At least Zumbo offered a paid apprenticeship to Julia.

RR-Thanks for the blog and a place for us to debate about the show.

259 planb { 07.25.12 at 9:41 pm }

Hooray! My other comment got eaten. That was the best finale since season one. So happy for Andy and his mum.

260 Georgie { 07.25.12 at 9:42 pm }

Some may remember I predicted Zumbo would offer Julia a job after the Marie-Antoine Careme challenge. See comment #17 on:

http://www.realityravings.com/2012/07/19/masterchef-australia-the-zumbo-challenge/#comments

261 littlepetal { 07.25.12 at 9:42 pm }

Miss JLo, you can come out now and play !!!!!

262 JaniceG { 07.25.12 at 9:45 pm }

Sorry to be late – even for the finale, couldn’t bring myself to watch this in real time so I just finished the recording. I was actually proud of the judges for knocking favorite Audra out because she didn’t make the brief and frankly, I thought the plating was messy, too.

Seriously, I think of previous years and just weep. I bet the “Australian National Dish” challenge was deliberately picked due to the (lack of) skill level of the finalists – lamb and veg? Really? When you don’t even know enough to sear the lamb to carmelize the fat before putting on the crumb? And a fisherman’s basket with no side dishes?

The dessert also wasn’t as challenging as past years: ice creams, mousse, and twills. Woo hoo. Credit to Andy for getting through it but wouldn’t you think if you were going to be on Masterchef that you would at least try to make ice cream or caramel knowing that you’d probably be faced with dessert?

I don’t think these guys hold a candle to past years. Couldn’t bring myself to care which one won.

263 littlepetal { 07.25.12 at 9:48 pm }

JaniceG – I do agree that the calibre this year is not that great

264 Von { 07.25.12 at 9:49 pm }

Andy this year’s Winner, did’tn see that one coming at the beginning off this serie! :) And I think Julia is going to do great at Zumbo!

Thanks again, RR and I will be back for the All-Stars! ByE!

265 brain dead dave { 07.25.12 at 9:49 pm }

Wow! A black rhino.

266 Maz { 07.25.12 at 9:50 pm }

Okay-is it a conspiracy that both the winners of the Block 2012 and MC 2012 come from East Maitland??

267 lulu { 07.25.12 at 9:51 pm }

Rubbish outcome, but never in doubt – he’s been groomed and prodded for some time. Nevertheless, congrats to him.
How adorable was Julia with her sister … brought a tear. She was more deserving, and I hope she goes far.
Thanks RR, it’s been a fun ride.

268 A.P { 07.25.12 at 9:52 pm }

You were right Georgie! She deserved it, they are both winners, even Audra got something.

269 Reality Raver { 07.25.12 at 9:52 pm }

Maybe if Andy should put out a calendar instead of a cookbook.

270 littlepetal { 07.25.12 at 9:54 pm }

RR-Like a peek a boo calender? Peel and you get a recipe?

271 JStar { 07.25.12 at 9:54 pm }

RR! I distinctly remember you saying you have a no ogling of under-26 years policy!

272 Suziekue { 07.25.12 at 9:55 pm }

Thanks RR for your wonderful MC blog. It has always been my *first go to site* each morning following MC. And thanks also to the other contributors, even Paul/Troll/Turbulence, I have loved following the lot of you.

273 littlepetal { 07.25.12 at 9:57 pm }

Finally the contestants can come out and tweet.

274 JaniceG { 07.25.12 at 10:00 pm }

Forgot to mention that I was happy that Julie is basically getting her dream as well: paid apprenticeship with Zumbo and $15,000, not a bad deal, plus, of course, the national exposure. i’m betting she has a longer career than Andy in the field.

275 Reality Raver { 07.25.12 at 10:08 pm }

JaniceG and Georgie – Is there a Zumbo store in Brisbane or whereever Julia is from? As that would mean she would have to move to Sydney. I don’t think she will take up the offer in the long term. Just a hunch.

276 Troll { 07.25.12 at 10:09 pm }

Thanks Suziekue for your kind words (also on behalf of Paul).
It is good to see that there is a place on here for those that do not appreciate the never ending verbal diarrhea delivered to us from Adelaide.

277 brain dead dave { 07.25.12 at 10:12 pm }

You can get fucked ,Dutch Courage.

278 Troll { 07.25.12 at 10:34 pm }

Now, now…what kinda language is that on a family friendly site like this?

279 Paul { 07.25.12 at 10:41 pm }

Yes RR. I remember that policy too!!!

280 JaniceG { 07.25.12 at 10:45 pm }

RR: No, Zumbo isn’t in Brisbane but I would have thought that Julia’s family would work it out so she could take up the offer of a lifetime!

I giggled at the calendar line – however, if you want some real eye candy, check this out on the eve of the Olympics: http://25.media.tumblr.com/tumblr_m7l6m264cD1qzab45o1_500.png

BTW, I join with others in thanking you for providing this site for us to vent and share our thoughts throughout MCs past and present.

281 littlepetal { 07.25.12 at 10:48 pm }

JaniceG-Now RR can’t sleep tonight !!!!!!!!!

282 Reality Raver { 07.25.12 at 10:53 pm }

Hey guys I did not say I would actually buy the calendar….

283 domjr { 07.25.12 at 10:55 pm }
284 JLo { 07.25.12 at 11:00 pm }

Hey troll #128 – Don’t copy my signature ‘Boom!’ J-Lo ain so low to hand out spoiler like you did.

285 Jess { 07.25.12 at 11:07 pm }

This finale was a lot less interesting that previous ones. (I kind of get the feeling they rushed it for the Olympics, hence the Wednesday night). And despite it being the finale, I found myself zoning out to play computer games on half the screen. The challenges were far too simple for a finale. The whole of finals week was too simple, actually. Meh, I say. Make them more difficult next season, please.

But speaking of next season, please don’t bring back George. His palate is tremendously limited, and he isn’t qualified to judge non-European cuisines. Try something spicy in a while, George!

I hope everyone sticks around for All Stars, though. It’s sad to see everyone say goodbye!

286 Reality Raver { 07.25.12 at 11:14 pm }

JaniceG – holy toledo batman they are smoking. Are they the swim team?

287 hess { 07.25.12 at 11:15 pm }

O god they just announced that Andy’s in All Stars…..

288 Chris W { 07.25.12 at 11:20 pm }

Apparently he and Ben have turned down an offer by Matt P to produce a Mexican travelogue:
http://www.news.com.au/entertainment/television/andy-allen-is-masterchefs-last-man-standing/story-e6frfmyi-1226434211298

As much as Andy has been pushed and prodded to get him to the final, he deserved the win tonight, but I would think it best for him to take advantage of his popularity and presence while he’s still “hot”.

289 sofi { 07.25.12 at 11:21 pm }

RR
thx for the MC blog ~~~~~~~looking forward to watching MC all stars tomo…

290 Gwen { 07.25.12 at 11:42 pm }

I am happy Julia didn,t win. But I am not sure Andy deserved to win either. I hope Julia takes the paid apprenticeship offered to her. She needs all the help she can get.

291 alicia { 07.25.12 at 11:47 pm }

IS Andy really in All stars

292 Dunbi { 07.25.12 at 11:47 pm }

I think the real winner tonight was Julia’s sister with her “Matt Meringue” :)

293 Chunks { 07.25.12 at 11:50 pm }

Well at last the west coast can join in on this carry on. The right person won and the runner up has her dream come true as well, fantastic. I think people getting excited about the future of Bendy may be disappointed. Life has a funny way of taking you in different directions, but we shall see. Where’s this story about Andy sharing the cash with Ben? And Fred, with whom do you think Andy is going to be enjoying this night of booze and sex?

294 Chunks { 07.25.12 at 11:56 pm }

Maz, don’t know if you’ve ever noticed Andy’s trousers but they are a rather fancy selection of reds and yellows and terracottas, so I think that’s where “fancypants” comes from.

295 Fred { 07.26.12 at 12:15 am }

Chunks, either Kylie or professional barfly Dom Brett or both.

I actually agree wrt bendy. Fame changes things.

296 Ari { 07.26.12 at 12:15 am }

So proud of Andy. Loved him from the start. Did not expect him to actually win at all! But someone needs to grab my shoulders, stare at me in the eye and slap me in the face and tell me that Andy and I will never happen and I need to snap back into reality because he’s straight, 6 years older than me, lives on the other side of the country, and probably shagging Dom.

But so proud of him. I hope he and Ben will stay together. And so happy for Julia too.

297 Chunks { 07.26.12 at 12:20 am }

Ari, your dreams of sailing off into the sunset with Andy’s spectacular arms around you are probably never going to happen. But there’s plenty of other seafood in the sea ;-)

298 Dunbi { 07.26.12 at 12:31 am }

I loved that Julia gave the two crappy desserts to George and Gary.
Where, oh where was Jamie Oliver?
I wonder if the Masterchef fans were only fed an entree?

299 Sioux Denim { 07.26.12 at 12:36 am }

Here, here Chunks – WA is with you now! Yes, what is all this rubbish about sharing the winners prize and who is this woman????

Neither here nor there with winner and agree with JaniceG – all of what she said…. previous finales have certainly had more finesse and professionalism.

Thanks RR for a great site to read and chat on all things MChef… look forwrd to All Stars now!

300 Fred { 07.26.12 at 12:50 am }

Confimed on tumblr that Andy and dom Brett are shagging tho they aren’t officially together anymore. Hope Andy loves the smell of booze and sick while he’s fucking.

Anyway glad this is done. Andy did not deserve to win and I’m tired of him already butgood on him.

301 Ari { 07.26.12 at 12:59 am }

@Fred you don’t happen to be beee-leigh right? Haha yeah Andy will be partying for a while. I understand his taste in girls though. Dom’s gorgeous but a tad bimboish.

Love and admire him but did he deserve to win? Honestly, probably not. He has peaked at the right time and he will grow. I would have loved either Mindy or Audra to win. But judging by their lack of love it was a safer option to crown the one everyone was fond of I guess. I would have rather seen Julia win (even though I love Andy but I really want him to stick with Ben) but if Julia won the backlash and hate she would have gotten would have pained me to be honest. She really doesn’t deserve that treatment.

302 bron { 07.26.12 at 1:03 am }

ARI! haha i’m beee-leigh, hi!

303 Ari { 07.26.12 at 1:06 am }

Aaah I knew it was you bron but I got a little confused with what Fred said. I was also confused because I thought you probably wouldn’t say anything bad about Andy haha. Really love Andy! Hope he doesn’t lose his ways. DAMMIT DOM.

304 Fred { 07.26.12 at 2:17 am }

Dom is pretty much a bimbo, sorry to say. I didn’t want to believe it but then I actually read up on her and learned more about her and…yeah. Bimbo, Class A.

Honestly, going back and watching the auditions for Masterchef I wasn’t that impressed with her. She didn’t seem particularly talented and she apparently spent most of her time sprawled out on club floors drunk then actually practicing at what she came there to do. But then apparently Andy’s spent many a night drunk and plastered on the pristine floors of nightclubs, so I guess it’s a match made in heaven? But then once the fame thing kicks in he’ll have plenty of trashy girls to bang so she’s got competition if she wants to stay his number one bar-skank.

Ew. His taste is as classless as she is but I’m glad this came out because now the rose tinted glasses are off and I’m officially over his Holy Andy-ness. Nice guy bullshit aside, he was tossed a softball grandma-style and won the competition by appealing to a demographic. He was NOT the best cook in the competition, just the most marketable. I have no doubt that he’s grown and that he’s a genuine guy, but he is not the kind of guy I’d waste anymore time ‘admiring.’ Now that he’s going to be in Masterchef All Stars I wonder how he’s going to fair when they’re not obviously trying to hand him the win?

(lol sorry just getting all this off my chest so I can move on).

Furthermore, fame changes people. I’d love to think that he and Ben are going to be ~friends forever~ but I mean, WHY did he decide to start a Mexican restaurant in the first place when he’s expressed NO particular affection for Mexican food? Plus running a business is hard. So many things can throw a wrench in TV’s greatest bromance or whatever. I wish them well, but I’m not going to be a swoony doe-eyed school girl about it. Shit happens.

Anyway, congrats, and I’ll be watching out for whatever Amina does because in my mind she truly deserved this more.

305 EJ { 07.26.12 at 2:37 am }

Checking in from Canada, been following this blog for the past two seasons. Chuffed to see Andy win, he seems like a genuine guy, and his improvement over the series has been clear. Great season, and it’s been fun reading it all here.

306 J { 07.26.12 at 3:07 am }

It’s embarrasing that George is unable to palate spicy food. So that means he’s unfit to judge south east asian, indian, mexican, middle eastern and some italian food. I don’t think I want to eat in his restaurant…

It’s funny how Julia and Kylie failed to deliver on desserts when it mattered. In fact, they have collectively lost dessert challenges to Audra, Mindy and Andy. Dessert queens? More like dessert squires.

As usual, Audra is unable to follow instructions and to work under pressure. Judging from her getting a stint at Bar H, I suspect that she has practically won by getting to showcase all of her winning dishes.

I feel bad for Julia. Was rooting for her. If I knew her in real life, we’d be bffs.

I think Andy did deserve to win but not by his own merit but just because the other competitors decided to start producing shit. Decidedly he’s improved (“grown”… some part of him probably grew a lot tonight if what some of you are saying is true. :P ) but he got a lot of help and instruction throughout that the others did not get and somehow, tossing a few pieces of seafood on a plate is modern and creative. Clearly, rigged to win.

I don’t get why people are so gaga over Andy either. I find his “I”s very grating and in terms of looks, I find Ben more attractive. (Or Ben’s brother *swoon*) (And Alice’s bf… he needs to make a second appearance on the show.)

Ari, if there’s a hot gay contestant next season, I have a feeling I know who we’ll both be rooting for… ;) (I want Julia as a fag hag.)

RR, will you be doing commentary and reviews on I Will Survive? It looks amazing. The men are hot and reasonably good at flaunting social convention. If you’re covering it, I’ll read it.

307 J { 07.26.12 at 3:09 am }

*flouting social convention

308 J { 07.26.12 at 3:24 am }

Oh and don’t forget Matt Howell. He goes to uni in Vic. Wonder if he goes to mine…

309 Fred { 07.26.12 at 4:14 am }

J I think that’s part of the reason I’m over him. Andy’s win just doesn’t seem genuine. He’s been working hard, but he’s gotten the most help in these past few days- it was clear they wanted him to win sometime before final’s week or during. There’s giving suggestions and there’s literally telling him to change his idea and then giving him a blueprint of what to cook.

And TEN out of TEN. For a seafood basket? Did any of the professional chefs get TEN out of TEN during any of the immunity challenges? Modern and innovative? A Farce.

Andy’s a sweet guy with terrible taste in women and he was given the win though he didn’t deserve it, but now that he has it, good on him.

310 brain dead dave { 07.26.12 at 4:22 am }

Thanks fellow bloggers. This website is no longer fun for me.

I wish you well dealing with bullies and trolls. Even legends get tired of it.

311 Georgie { 07.26.12 at 6:46 am }

bdd I hope you’re just over tired.

312 Joseph Skyrim { 07.26.12 at 7:59 am }

Whoa, 310 posts already I think I’m late! :P Good on Andy for beating the Khaleesi at her own strength, totally earned the win. Happy ending for Julia too as I think working with Zumbo (who was impressed with her sugar box) is exactly the thing she wanted to do. 15k ain’t bad either.

BDD – come baaaaaaaaack, all-stars starts tonight! :P

313 Lesley { 07.26.12 at 8:35 am }

Thanks to Reality Raving for delivering this blog each day have thoroughly enjoyed most of the comments from the participants but what a pity most of us knew who won before it ended. Next year
NEW JUDGES except for Matt P and also blind judging……..

314 Angelo Fortnuo { 07.26.12 at 8:49 am }

what a joke – such favouritism for Andy, right the way through. I honestly didn’t want Julia to win, but after seeing a straight 10 given for a plate of bloody seafood, I just felt robbed and empty inside. This whole series was a jest and simply set up to highlight anyone who you desperate women find attractive.

I for one, will continue to support those that have shown they can actually produce quality food – i.e.: Audra, Mindy and Kylie in their future endeavours.

Robbed, I tell you…robbed

315 Reality Raver { 07.26.12 at 8:59 am }

BDD – That is really upsetting even more so than Andy beating Julia.
As you know things always get heated on this blog when Masterchef is on, and then it settles down to its more plodding pace after the show finishes. Anyway have a break but you are always welcome back, and you will be missed.

316 Reality Raver { 07.26.12 at 8:59 am }

Also I am interviewing Julia – does anyone have any questions for her?

317 JKo { 07.26.12 at 9:01 am }

Thanks for your blog RR, I have followed your recaps for a while and didn’t discover the comments section until not long ago.

318 Fred { 07.26.12 at 9:18 am }

I love Julia. RR, I would like to know how she feels about the editing she got and the backlash (much like Deb and Alice). And whether or not she’s going to move to Brisbane to work with Zumbo? (wait, is he in Brisbane?).

What got her into baking, if she’s still going to be a concert pianist, and her true feelings about how the judges may have treated her.

Anyway, I very much agree that there was too much favouritism towards Andy. It cheapens his win and when I think of him being Masterchef all I can do is snerk at this point. Like, seriously???? Um, okay. He’s a nice bloke, but lol with him standing there getting crowned with like a dozen better cooks standing behind him clapping.

319 Paul { 07.26.12 at 9:18 am }

RR,
Is JLo going to give an update on her experience yesterday?

As for last nights result, whilst Andy wasn’t the best cook throughout he rarely put up a bad dish and then peaked when it counted. That is the key to winning MC.

He seems like a great guy to have a beer with and hopefully this doesn’t change him too much.

320 Angelo Fortnuo { 07.26.12 at 9:19 am }

RR – I’d like to know if Julia feels that she was treated more harshly than the other competitors during the course of the show?

I’d also be very interested to hear if she plans on sticking to desserts or will be trying her hand at more savoury dishes?

321 Paul { 07.26.12 at 9:31 am }

RR,
A couple of questions from me.

1. When did Julia decide to audition for Masterchef? What made her go on the show?
2. Who were her room-mates? (this is something that’s always intrigued me – ie how do they decide who their room-mates are???)

322 Suziekue { 07.26.12 at 9:33 am }

@ bdd – if you leave, then the dead hands of the trolls and bullies win. Stay and enjoy AllStars nonsense with us please!!

323 Culinary Boner { 07.26.12 at 9:35 am }

Oh joy, so looking forward cheering up me day being bludgeoned by the witty and incisive comments of Paul, Troll plus some of the other irrelevant and unfunny political comments of the random anti-Juliar* trolls that this site has picked up like fleas since Raver decided lie down with the news ltd dogs.
Oh happy, happy, joy, joy.

324 Joseph Skyrim { 07.26.12 at 9:39 am }

RR – I have a request! Can you ask her (Julia) nicely to upload a youtube vid of her playing piano pretty please? Hehe yeah I know it’s not cooking related… :P

Uh, also is she taking up Zumbo on his offer?

325 Dunbi { 07.26.12 at 9:39 am }

I too would like to know her thoughts on the way she was spoken to by the judges – George in particular.

326 Georgie { 07.26.12 at 9:45 am }

Hear, hear Suziekue and CB. There’s less and less to laugh about every day in this politically correct crock we find ourselves living in.

Imagine a blog full of Pauls:

I am totally in awe of MCA. It has to be the best produced, most believable and genuine cooking competition I’ve ever watched.

The judges are the most natural, helpful and spontaneous hosts you could ever hope for and because they are so natural and spontaneous, nothing they do on the show could ever be seen as contrived or manipulated for entertainment or drama sake. They are totally supportive of all the contestants equally and would never display favouritism in any form.

All the contestants are wonderful, clever, well adjusted and jolly people, who are such talented cooks, any one of them could be a master chef in real life. Like the judges, I would never favour one contestant over another because they all deserve my blind adoration and I want them all to win. Nothing they do ever annoys me because I am from Stepford.

This is my opinion of MCA throughout the entire competition and I’ll copy and paste it into the blog every day.

327 Culinary Boner { 07.26.12 at 9:46 am }

Raver, I have an entirely vacuous question about her glasses.
We now know that Alice has a stash of 20? 70s/early 80s style Tootsie glasses*, but does Julia have just one pair or a stash of identical D&G glasses?

*Which almost make her as hot as Hillary was back in them days –

328 Paul { 07.26.12 at 9:54 am }

Yes, I’m sure we will all miss the witticisms of BDD.

Who can forget S2 and his charming commentary on Claire – I’m sure most females appreciate publicly being called ‘sl*t’ from an anonymous character on line.

And Julie and Kate will also miss his lovely commentary on their body shapes. And I’m sure Kate will also miss his poignant commentary on her religious beliefs.

In S3, Dani was the lucky recipient of BDD’s attention and without doubt she looks back fondly on all his name calling from cowards castle. Luckily Mindy was here this year to take up Dani’s spoot – maybe they can compare notes at the All Star series ?

Yes, all these girls (funny isn’t it, they’re all female) have really had their lives enriched by BDD.

What a role model for society this charmer is?

329 PollyB { 07.26.12 at 9:55 am }

Have read barely anything here yet, but, was Andy’s seafood basket so much better than lamb? I ffwd almost all comments on the dishes last night cos I’m so over Gary. Anyhoo, easy to setup the win from there, especially with Julia botching the dessert by the tiniest bit. This finale had no real excitement around it. It was really quite dull.
I didn’t care who won really but so glad Julia didn’t succumb to the theatrics. I can’t wait to read your interview RR.
If this goes ahead next year we really need to see, & hear, new judges. In the bigger scheme of things, Jowl$y ain’t too bad, he just needs to remember he is not auditioning for the local theatre. On the other hand, the vocabulary of G & G is so limited and predictable. Would any other chef with a grain of self-respect want to take it on?
Thanks to RR and to everyone in this community for a great forum.

330 Chunks { 07.26.12 at 9:56 am }

Every year it’s the same story. My favourite didn’t win so it must have been rigged. Here’s the truth:

Ben blew it by not starting out with a clear vision and serving up a well-cooked mess.

Kylie blew it splitting her custard dessert with Guilliam.

Mindy blew it on her uncooked barramundi.

Audra blew it on her cold entree with lots of ingredients but not much in the way of technique.

Julia blew it on uncooked lamb in a dish that wasn’t really an “invention” and then failed to out-cook Andy with a recipe in her own specialist area.

Andy won by being the most consistent, the most improved, the most creative and the most determined. Putting in the same performance, he would have wiped the floor with Julie in season one and Kate in season three, but probably not Adam in season two.

331 JLo { 07.26.12 at 9:57 am }

No. Paul. No. #318.

9:18am. Very prompt to log in as soon as you reached your office. You know that you & your troll friends have taken the fun out of this blog.

1. I have never nicknamed any contestants including the judges. That’s a principle I always follow. I always address them with their proper names. You have accused me of everything I have not done.
2. Comparing my opinion about using Italing sausages as moaning in porn. What else should I or should I not say? Who set the rules here?
3. It all started because I voiced my opinions to disagree with you odds? Why publish your odds when it is not up for discussions or criticisms?
4. I do not agree with your bullish behavior towards a lot of the friendly regular commenters here as soon as we said something you don’t like to hear. When you started your menopausal rants, we are told to ignore you. When we started to fight back, we are being told off as baiting you. You can do no wrong and everything we say or do is wrong. The favouritism is as obvious as MC grooming Andy as the winner.
5. A lot of us won’t forget you accusing many of us as being homophobic & racist which was totally untrue and unfounded. If your kind of bahavior is allowed, why pick on someone who used the F word?
6. You are behaving well now doesn’t erase our memory of how you have mistreated a lot of us in previous threads.
6. You can camp on this site and troll with your troll friends all you want. It is a goodbye for me.

I could go back put up all the links to support everything I have said above but I have better way to spend my time.

332 A.P { 07.26.12 at 10:00 am }

RR, please ask Julia more about her sister, they seem to have a lovely relationship, and if shes prepared to move to Sydney to take up the Zumbo offer. Did she think the judges picked on her more than the others?
I truly think Andy was groomed to win from the start, he was kept in the background for ages, was never in the top or bottom three, just coasted through and then given lots of hints and help along the way. I did think they wanted a guy to win this year and I have nothing against him.
BDD, I will say the same thing to you that you said to me once — $TAY!

333 Suziekue { 07.26.12 at 10:03 am }

See Paul you just don’t get it do you? We would rather read the often un-PC remarks of bdd and filter them in our own vacuous little female heads, than read the boring twaddle that you pump out from MC HQ every chance you get.

334 planb { 07.26.12 at 10:05 am }

Oh, Chunks 329. Every single word the truth.

PollyB – “Have read barely anything here yet, but, was Andy’s seafood basket so much better than lamb? ”

Her lamb with a lemon myrtle crust was nondescript in terms of invention, the fat unrendered, and much of it inedibly undercooked; it sat on theplate largely untouched. Andy’s deconstructed fisherman’s basket had every ingredient wellcooked, and ‘delicious’ fried slithers of abalone, was clever and inventive in an inventions test and the judges enjoyed eating it.

Stop lamenting others, bdd will be back, if going to usual form, in under 24 hours. (He only makes it to the end of the block with his hanky tied to a stick.)

Paul, Troll, whoever, etc, has as much right to post here as any of the rest of us knobheads, imo.

335 Georgie { 07.26.12 at 10:05 am }

Paul has a classic abuser personality. He will attack and bully a commenter (not always bdd) and next thing he’s speaking to them like he didn’t even make the previous comment.

Abusers intimidate and bully emotionally as well as physically and after delivering a ‘bashing’ they then suck up with the sweet talk, leaving victims wondering WTF is going on.

F**k off Paul, you make me sick.

336 Culinary Boner { 07.26.12 at 10:06 am }

Paul, rather than reminding us hourly that BDD is, in your opinion, a vile sexist misogynist pig, why don’t you nominate him for a Gold Ernie – http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ernie_Awards
and then we can all sit back and leave in the hands of “experts”.

There is such a thing as being sexist by presuming that women can’t look after themselves and need a man to protect them, you know.

I’m now adopting the “talk to the hand” stratagem.

337 Bolders { 07.26.12 at 10:07 am }

Chunks agree with you 100%.

I enjoyed last night’s show – even more so when the over interactive Audra was eliminated. Also was worried that it was going to turn into the Mindy cheer fest at the begining.

Glad Andy won- he did very well.

338 Cupcake Boy { 07.26.12 at 10:07 am }

@Fred #303: That’s really harsh. Not only do you not know these people personally but you’re so blinded by anger that you decide to attack someone. I thought most of us were adults here. Good luck to Andy. x

339 Buzzy { 07.26.12 at 10:08 am }

Hi everyone the comments are more fun than the show.

Blind judging, the chefs who present the challenge to judge and at least rotate G G and M their egos are too big, their table manners so gross and let’s get some judges who don’t mangle language and give directions (oh sorry hints or tips) at producer’s directions.

340 Georgie { 07.26.12 at 10:08 am }

A.P – well said. Let’s start a blog ‘bring bdd back’ campaign.

bdd $TAY.

341 Reality Raver { 07.26.12 at 10:08 am }

Paul – Have to say I thought the last comment is probably not going to make you very popular. You and BDD had your stoushes in fact readers had to put up with them, in hindsight maybe I should have just deleted I for one am not happy he has gone. Yes sometimes he pushed boundaries but sometimes he comments were spot on and his puns quite funny and he pissed some readers off but he also had a lot of fans. This blog is a community and everyone should be welcome.

342 Suziekue { 07.26.12 at 10:10 am }

OMG!! I just realised I fed the troll again. *facepalm*

343 Ari { 07.26.12 at 10:14 am }

Still happy that Andy won. Like I keep saying, he peaked at the right time. Mindy and Audra put up good dishes in the middle but started to droop down during the top 10. I would have expected fantastic dishes from them during the signature dish challenge but was left disappointed. Andy is probably the best when it comes to working in the kitchen, very focused and on task. Glad Julia is doing well too. She’s putting a cookbook as well. Will buy both. Peace.

344 Ralphie { 07.26.12 at 10:14 am }

If last nights show was a live telecast, then why was it broad daylight outside? Also there was too much editing for it to be live. Does N.S.W. have extended daylight saving?!!!!!

345 Paul { 07.26.12 at 10:16 am }

RR,
No problem with commentary of the show but there is a line and that line is crossed too often IMO.

Simple rule – don’t post online what you wouldn’t say in person.

Its sad that people think calling women ‘sl**s’, ‘fat’, ‘legohead’ and other crap, is regarded as funny.

Its offensive, disgusting and in most cases, criminal.

He can post whatever dribble he wants to post otherwise.

346 Culinary Boner { 07.26.12 at 10:17 am }

Hey Channel 10, don’t we deserve a night off?

347 A.P { 07.26.12 at 10:17 am }

JLo, you stay too, we need to hear about your experiences at Masterchef, don’t worry about you know who.

348 Joseph Skyrim { 07.26.12 at 10:24 am }

Hehe that’s because it wasn’t broadcast live Ralphie. ;) The first 2 hours were done last week and the announcing bit was filmed during the day before it was televised?

@CB – No MC on Friday I think so you can have an early night if you were planning on waking up to watch the opening ceremony for the olympics.

Thanks A.P, I didn’t realise JLo was leaving too. I just went back and read her last comment.

JLo STAY
bdd $TAY

Don’t hand these cretins a victory. If they’re unbearable now, imagine how much worse when puffed up FGS.

351 A.P { 07.26.12 at 10:39 am }

I agree Georgie, I’ve had my little fight with BDD, but we made up and I think I understand him a lot more now and if he and JLo leave this blog will not be the same. I’m a bit like JLo, don’t know whether to ignore or respond to Paul, we can’t seem to win.
Paul, I’ve said before, anyone is welcome on here IMO and I don’t like name calling or the F Word and so I don’t use them but not everyone is the same as me and I accept that. Some of your points I have agreed with and I’ve tried to converse with you nicely but you are like dog with a bone and just won’t let it go with your fight with BDD. Can’t you both just ignore each other and state your points? Let him have his opinion and you have yours?
It would be a shame if RR shuts down this blog, a lot of people would be disappointed.
$TAY BDD AND JLO!
RALPHIE, it wasn’t live, it was filmed earlier in the day.

352 Dr T { 07.26.12 at 10:40 am }

Paul – if you think his actions are criminal, then report him to someone… when are you going to let up?

I don’t enjoy seeing your odds posted, because I think gambling is a terrible scourge on society, and costs alot more to people then some offhanded witty comments. Far worse things are said by standup comics…

I have asked you several times to outline what you think you are trying to achieve, and what you think your goals are, but you fail to respond. Clearly getting rid of bdd was one of them, but there will be others that will come in his place. And what will you do then?

Because you can’t be happy, you can’t allow anyone else to be either. Because it upsets you, you have to make it upset everyone else. No one forces you to come to the site to read. You’ve cost this site more people then you’ve dragged in.

I have no idea what you do in the real world, but I hope it brings some worth.

353 Reality Raver { 07.26.12 at 10:48 am }

CB – The fighting was not between any new commenters so don’t know how you can point the finger at any new readers I may have got in the last two weeks. Love the Ernies, not sure BDD would make the grade on that one. Anyway as you know things always settle down post MC on this blog.

354 JLo { 07.26.12 at 10:49 am }

A.P – You are the sweetest person and the ultimate peacemaker. It is more of the principle issue about favourtism as outlined in point 4 on comment #330.

355 Ari { 07.26.12 at 11:01 am }

For Julia’s interview, could you ask how she feels about beating Jonathan Daddia’s record for the most eliminations? (Has she beaten him with the most bottom 2′s? I’m not sure)

Also would LOVE to know about her cookbook and her ability to stay in front of the camera without being a gushy girl. And whether she ever felt like she was having it tough by how George treats her.

Would also like to know about Andy and whether she truly believes he was a dark horse and improved a lot. Will be looking forward to the interview! :3

356 Reality Raver { 07.26.12 at 11:01 am }

JLo – I don’t take favourites on this blog I try and stay as neutral as possible particularly with long standing readers and commenters. I have been told many times over the years that BDD was one of my favourites. So I can’t really win on that one. Also if I was to take sides then it might make people who did have a different opinion from myself feel uncomfortable about commenting.

357 Daze { 07.26.12 at 11:07 am }

Whatever you are doing RR, it must be right, hence such a popular site. It’s a hard road, writing and then moderating but I think you know your recipe, which is working and why we all love it.

358 Georgie { 07.26.12 at 11:10 am }

Good questions Ari.

Also RR – could you ask her if she intends taking up the apprenticeship?

Not sure if anyone has already put that one down as I haven’t read all the comments this morning.

359 Jon { 07.26.12 at 11:14 am }

Wondering if the arbitrary decisions along the way that kept the final two in the competition has that smell about it for anyone else or if it’s just me. Julia was in the eliminations so often but never quite eliminated, Andy not put into an elimination by an arbitrary decision to select a better dish and a 50/50 of not being eliminated when the judges decided not to eliminate anyone at all in Tasmania.

Pressure Test 2 – Julia bottom 3
Elimination 3 – Julia second last, TK booted for being “Uninspiring”
Pressure Test 3 – Andy and Ben’s table of 3 arbitrarily saved from the botarga, and ergo, the pressure test, by the judges choosing a second dish from their table after Andy’s dish was deemed too bad to bother with, thus sealing Dalvinder’s elimination.
Elimination 4 – arbitrary decision not to eliminate either Sam or Andy in Tasmanian week
Elimination 5 – Julia second last, saved by her “Innovative use of time”
Elimination 7 – Julia again in bottom 3
Elimination 8 – Andy last saved in a double elimination
Elimination 9 – Julia second last again, only beating the stuck pig (not Deb, her dish)
Elimination 11 – Julia second last again, beating Alice
Final week Elimination 2 – Julia second last again, saved because Ben’s dish tasted great, but had a “Lack of Direction” Maybe an arrow shaped tile to serve it on would have saved him.

In the end, Andy performed really well the last couple of weeks, but possibly lucky to be there after Tasmania. Maybe it’s just a really bad format if they actually do want to find the best overall cook.

360 Reality Raver { 07.26.12 at 11:18 am }

Jon – Love your analysis. I think these things always come down to luck. Each year there is a discussion about a better scoring system like MC junior where it is a points thing. However maybe if that was implemented the dramatic tension would go.

By the way Andy is live blogging on the http://www.thetelegraph.com.au site right now if any of you are interested.

361 Paul { 07.26.12 at 11:19 am }

Hi Dr T,
The point is to make people think that what they post about others is hurtful and some comments are bordering on (or are) criminal.

Alice herself said she was concerned about cyber-bullying in her interview with RR. She is a real life contestant and FWIW she appears to be one of the stronger ones, so you can only imagine the torment some of the other contestants might potentially be going through.

I have reiterated 1000 times that I could not care less otherwise what is posted about MC – just leave the nasty comments about individuals appearances and or background alone. I’m not asking anyone to cure cancer here. This should not be a difficult request for any reasonable human being. If you find this impossible then I would suggest professional help may be needed.

You know what – this thread had over 300 comments last night and all of it was about cooking or the show itself. There was no nastiness and it was a pleasure to read for a change.

Thanks to all those commentators last night and for the overwhelming majority throughout this season who genuinely love cooking or the show itself.

362 Paul { 07.26.12 at 11:22 am }

Jon,
I think the format needs a twist.

1. To change up a tiring concept.
2. To make it fairer for cooks who are consistently good but have one brain fade that costs them.

Not sure how it can be done though……Thats the problem.

363 Georgie { 07.26.12 at 11:22 am }

You’re right Jon and the formats they use (different in each series), means they will never find the best cook. If this was a true cooking ‘competition’, the challenges would be a fair and level playing field and they rarely are. The team cooking in a suburban home was a prime example of that.

364 Bruiser Brody { 07.26.12 at 11:26 am }

What’s wrong with legohead, you legohead?
There is no name on this blog that I have posted in regards to contestants that I would not happily describe them to others in real life…
When you go on a reality show, there is an implicit contract signed that you are going to be judged – not just for the context of the prize on offer – but on every single aspect of your character… its a double-edged sword, but after 15+ years of the genre NO-ONE can say they are going in eyes wide shut!
People can read into people’s mannerisms however they want – Alice’s OTT annoyed me, Dani annoyed me, Julia cooking puddle-pie to knock out the best chef Chris annoyed me – i don’t give a crap if its performance-based or character-based, forums like these are an opportunity to express and vent those opinions, and contestants are willing participants who will have to accept life’s great maxim – not everyone will like you!

After 15 years of dedicated following of the genre has enabled me to be at peace with every stupid result – Andy won because he satisfied the requirements of the FORMAT the best! May not be the best cook, but its a reality show – and he won the contests at the correct times…
Its never about who’s more deserving (Marion, Chris, Ricki-Lee, Dan from BB, anyone except that dumb blonde big-dkked dude Jamie from BB, Russell from Survivor, etc, etc) – its about who the show formats to win!

Be at peace!

365 Jon { 07.26.12 at 11:30 am }

Thanks for the compliment RR.
For the record, most of my info came from Wikipedia, so “might” not be 100% accurate. The rest was from my head, so may be even less accurate (especially the Rick Stein/Dalvinder part – but think I got it mostly right).

On Paul’s comment #360, I probably said some hurtful things on twitter about some of the contestants, but have also said that in real life, without creative editing, most of them are probably pretty decent people and would be hard to hate as much as the persona that’s portrayed on the show. It’s easy to hide behind a keyboard and sling mud and hatred, but at the very least, my twitter name is my real name.

366 Dooba { 07.26.12 at 11:39 am }

Sigh Audra Audra.. follow the brief.

The last two cooks failed to impress. Andy’s seafood thingie looked all over the place. But he’s probably going to be the most marketable winner so far. Congrats to him anyway!

367 Jon { 07.26.12 at 11:39 am }

I can’t go to the Telegraph. I have an aversion to anything of Rupert’s unless I have no choice. If it payed my bills, I’d probably think differently though.

368 Culinary Boner { 07.26.12 at 11:42 am }

Raver, at the risk of ‘doing a Paul’ in terms of self-justification my comments related to a very small number of posts by a poster whose name starts with F (not the funny and insightful Fred) and some trolling types using variations on your name.

Not that their comments are really offensive or the like, but rather they were the dumb sloganeering and semi-literate commentary that I believe infects Murdoch Empire blogs in general (except of course Ask Bossy, which is Australia’s answer to the Jerry Springer Show).

During last night’s live blog I did a quick cyber-scoot across to the so-called live blogs on the SMH and Daily Telegraph only to leave quickly, shaking my head.

This blog in comparison offers a proper dialogue, a fair few laughs and adult level (if in my case entirely immature) commentary.

May it remain so.

369 planb { 07.26.12 at 11:43 am }

From a rather longwinded but pertinent article on RT by Aaron Darc – this part re Big Brother:

“And so, for a decade, we crowned strapping, young, white, straight, Aussie lads, and pretty, young, white, straight, Aussie bimbos – and, best of all, their crowning came off the back of months of hammering those horrible Others. There have been more studies of ex reality show contestants than you can poke a hidden camera at, and what they tend to have in common is Post Traumatic Stress Disorder, and a far too long list of once ordinary lives these contestants find unable to piece back together, after being hung on the neon cross and crucified. You might not be able to find my involvement with the genre online, but their abuse – the psychological violence these poor buggers endured for our “entertainment” – will probably outlive them. Having become a kind of public spokesman for them (one of the only people speaking up about just how vile it all was), I eventually was contacted by many, and their distress was always obvious – whether it was there to be seen in little ways, or whether they cried to me for hours (for some, years after their appearances). And go figure. Quite frankly, you’d be messed up by it, too.”

370 Georgie { 07.26.12 at 11:44 am }

#360 – “I have reiterated 1000 times that I could not care less otherwise what is posted about MC”…

Here’s Paul’s “I could not care less otherwise” bullying from yesterday’s thread:

● Baz,
I’m pretty sure Matt P knows how to pronounce Mr Reymond’s name correctly given that he has most probably met him hundreds of time.
Can you clarify that you have confirmed the correct pronunciation of his name with him?
Simple yes or no should suffice.

● Yeah, we should put him before the firing squad for that BDD – what do you reckon?
Disgraceful behavior – I don’t know how he sleeps at night.

● Anything else Baz and BDD.
Did George wear blue colored socks on a Wednesday when he should have worn red ones?
Was Matt’s cravat tied 1 cm’s incorrectly further to the left than what is required for Mondays?
I mean, where would we be without these thrilling observations.

There’s plenty more of these examples on other MC threads, of Paul bullying commenters about what they said that had nothing to do with personal attacks on contestants.

371 Dr T { 07.26.12 at 11:46 am }

Yes Paul, but the problem is that these people have chosen to be public figures. No one forced them to go on MC. They seek a quick route to fame, and part of the price of being a public figure is comments on them as characters, because that is what they have become. Part of their character includes dress sense and mannerisms, behaviour towards others on the show, and reactions. If the show was solely about cooking, they wouldn’t be running all over the countryside, so I think arguments to the effect that cooking is the only thing that is fair game are debunked quickly.

372 Chunks { 07.26.12 at 11:46 am }

I went to the Telegraph live blog but couldn’t really think of anything I desperately needed to know. Plus, so many gushing girls.

373 Dr T { 07.26.12 at 11:54 am }

More to the point, the reason there were 300 comments about food was that the show actually made a decent fist of being about food last night, unlike many of the prior episodes. No contestants wetting themselves about meeting a celebrity chef, or screaming at each other and throwing hissy fits.

374 Reality Raver { 07.26.12 at 11:56 am }

CB – And you provide a lot of the laughs too.

Plan B – thanks for that I must go and read the whole article it looks interesting.

Interestingly MC and probably other reality show contestants are told not to read the blogs and other cyberspace sites, and obviously they do, I mean who could resist. Contestants these days must realise the cyber discussion is what has made reality TV as popular as it it. However the down side is they read people saying negative things about them, but also the plus side they read comments that show how admired and loved they are, and they are the ones they should take notice of.

The BB contestants this year will particularly be discussed and psychologists working on these shows should prepare them for this. Not sure about about BB contestants in Australia, but I have met and talked to a fair few MC contestants and they only have positive things to say about their experiences on the show and how it has changed their lives.

But in a sense it is unfair of production houses and networks to point the finger when negative things are read about their charges.

Look at The Shire cast they must have known what they signed up for, but they probably realise the benefits will out way the negatives.

I will end with a cut and paste from another comment stream when I thought Georgie absolutely nailed it with this comment to a person who worked in the industry when a fierce debate was going on in a Celeb App blog post:

“Remember that thing that person said to you in high school? That thing that even now years later when you think about it makes your cheeks burn a bit or makes you feel sick, and you know you’ll never forget it the rest of your life? Now imagine that you’ll read twenty of those a day, or fifty, or a hundred.” They always nod, they always say they won’t read blogs, they always do anyway, and they’re always devastated by what they read.”

While I think this is very commendable, you could maybe paint a more accurate picture for them by preceding your advice with something along these lines:

“Now, we’re going to start filming this show and we’re going to edit the footage in a way that will exploit and humiliate you by focussing everyone’s attention on your flaws and frailties. We’re going to milk your weaknesses and sad stories for all they’re worth in the name of entertainment and you may come out looking really bad. So you’ll need to ….”

And then come in with the rest of your spiel.

375 Jon { 07.26.12 at 11:56 am }

Paul #361 & Georgie, comment #362. I’ve not watched the previous seasons, apart from the very end of season 1, where it seemed that no matter how uncooked or not even on the plate Julie’s food was, she was going to win anyway (“I have an idea of a cookbook where you need to write the last chapter, because I’m leavin’ it blank”), but watched pretty much all of this year and agree the format sucked the big one and needs to be changed, unless it is just dramatic tension they’re after.
Team challenges where it’s a bit of Amazing Race at first to run around unfamiliar surrounds trying to find things – really silly
Team challenges where they find out on the morning they have to build a restaurant, cook in it and pull it all down again – really silly. Even if I were to do the same, I’d definitely be planning it for more than a morning.
Team challenges where you can be dragged into the mire through no fault of your own – not as bad, but a bit silly.
Team challenges where each team cooks something completely different and is then judged on what course a village preferred – also somewhat silly.
They should push people out of their cooking comfort zones a lot more. I could assign one or two words to most of the dishes each one of them cooked
Andy – fish, confit
Julia – dessert
Audra – SE Asian
Mindy – SE Asian
Ben – Mexican
Kylie – dessert (but a little less absolute than Julia)
Amina – North African (a lot better than her final position, btw)

376 Chunks { 07.26.12 at 11:57 am }

planb, do you have the link to that piece by Aaron Darc? I’d like to read it all. Fortunately the Masterchef contestants are not subjected to the awfulness of Big Brother, although I’m sure some still find it hard to settle back into ordinary lives when it turns out they just don’t have what it takes to succeed in the culinary field. I’m still a bit haunted by the turkey slap drama and what happened to those two guys, and they’re just the tip of the iceberg.

377 Ari { 07.26.12 at 11:58 am }

Julia’s interview on popsugar:
http://www.popsugar.com.au/Interview-MasterChef-2012-Runner-Up-Julia-Taylor-Confidence-TV-Portrayal-Dessert-Pop-Up-Bar-24158497

Apparently the reveal was done during the day yesterday which explains the establishing shot of daylight outside which confused me. They got to hang out all day so I guess it was sweet having them watch the show together.

378 Reality Raver { 07.26.12 at 11:59 am }

Chunks – LOL – I did not even bother requesting an interview with Andy as I really could not think of anything to ask him. Also will put links up to his interviews on a blog post I am writing now but keep on being distracted by this post.

379 Paul { 07.26.12 at 11:59 am }

Georgie – If you think that’s offensive but calling someone a ‘sl*t’ or ‘fat’ isn’t, then well I don’t really think I can help you anymore.

planb – great excerpt.

Dr T – Look there is nothing wrong with a bit of banter but as I said before there is a line and most normal people know where that line is drawn – calling someone a sl*t or fat would be over that line I would have thought.

Agree?

380 Reality Raver { 07.26.12 at 12:07 pm }

Paul – What some people find offensive and others don’t are two different things. Same with political views there will never be agreement. Bruno Bouchet found out the hard way with some ill-timed and inappropriate tweets, he ended up getting the sack from his job. There may have been some people out there that found them amusing.

I think what Georgie is saying that none of live in silos on this one and yes BDD may have offended some readers, but she is also saying that you may have also done so. Now if I have to go through each comment and weed out comments that might be taken the wrong way or fit with peoples senses of humour that is going to be difficult.

Some people may find CB’s comments on Ajay offensive and others find it hilarious.

BTW CB Game of Thrones ad was at the bottom of my site for a few minutes.

381 planb { 07.26.12 at 12:07 pm }

382 Georgie { 07.26.12 at 12:08 pm }

Just pointing out that you’re a liar Paul. You don’t limit your criticism of other bloggers to things they say about contestants.

I find your bullying offensive and your attempt to be the censor of this blog.

383 Chunks { 07.26.12 at 12:11 pm }

Excerpt from Andy’s live blog. LOL.

Comment From jason vane : ]
why did everyone cry so much? are youse soft!?
Thursday July 26, 2012 11:51 jason vane

11:52 Jason. You have no idea what masterchef does to you. The environment that your placed in for such a long period of time makes everyone so emotional. We are not soft at all. Its not easy giving up your life to pursue a dream that my not come true

384 Paul { 07.26.12 at 12:16 pm }

Georgie – please.
Read the preceding comments by both BDD and whoever it was and get back to me. Something about Matt being a fat pompous prat IIRC. And its wasn’t in any way written in a jocular manner. It was written with hate.

385 Culinary Boner { 07.26.12 at 12:17 pm }

Raver, damn, all I can see is an ad for hot Filipino 18 year old babes. Maybe I should be chivalrous and rescue one of them from grinding Third World poverty?

Hmmmm….Must think of good argument to try to convince Mrs Boner.

386 Paul { 07.26.12 at 12:19 pm }

Hmmm – RR.
I’ll agree to disagree with you there.

Whilst some comments are open to interpretation and judgement, there are other comments that are just flat out wrong.

Calling a black person a ‘n**ger’ for example is not acceptable. But the argument I’m getting here is that if one person finds that acceptable , then we should all sit back and cop it.

387 Georgie { 07.26.12 at 12:26 pm }

#383 – “And its wasn’t in any way written in a jocular manner. It was written with hate.”

So now you’re the Great Interpretor too – judge, jury and executioner. You really are Paul of God aren’t you – the omniscient one.

388 nibehlung { 07.26.12 at 12:26 pm }

As a new reader, I’m sort of appalled at some of the comments written here. I know it’s the cool thing to make fun of people on TV but they are real people and some of the comments I’ve read here are downright mean and tasteless. I know everyone is entitled to their opinion but at the same time, I’m pretty sure that if the situation is reversed and you are on the receiving end of those comments, you wouldn’t like it either. I find that most if not all contestants in this year’s MC are actually pleasant people. So to see them being name-called is a bit cringe-worthy.

389 A.P { 07.26.12 at 12:33 pm }

I think everyone on here may have done a bit of bullying ( even me, I’m not that perfect, and even you Paul picking on everyone’s comments, even down to criticising what commentators say about accents, dress, glasses etc).
Even the producers and judges of Masterchef do their share by being rude to some contestants, remember how they treated Andrew and Fillipo, remember Deb being on the outer from everyone? Survivor is the worst for bullying, so is Big Brother. Can’t you see Paul, these shows are full of bullying also, which causes commentators to comment on it! If we only talked about the cooking it would be boring, some people here make funny comments to make the site enjoyable. I bagged Alice about the glasses, then I grew to love her, I bagged Emma’s beanies, JStar wrote a musical about her, JLo made a list about everyone, Fred made funny points about everything, yes we are all guilty, does it make us bad people in your eyes Paul? Yes, BDD and CB go overboard sometimes but they also make nice and amusing remarks as well, they are good people too I’m sure. None of us are perfect, even you Paul. You are just driving people away from the site and you don’t have the right to do that. You always want to have the last word, just let it go please!

390 Dr T { 07.26.12 at 12:55 pm }

Paul, it’s all about where each of us set the line, and you’ve set it pretty tight, and you’re trying to hold everyone to your standard.

Where the line is in my public life, and where it is with my friends are two very different things. Fat is a word I do use, slut is a word I don’t, but that is my choice. I do use other vulgar language, it’s a form of expression.

There is room for some self censorship as you have said, and I do agree that overt racism (and even covert) is inappropriate, but you have to allow for some grey room in the middle.

One would assume that you’ve had some unpleasant experiences in life that temper your stand against the comments of others. The fact is we all have those kind of experiences, and we steer away from them.

391 JLo { 07.26.12 at 1:03 pm }

That’s all I have to say RR. Sorry if I am too direct and can be seen as rude. I am moving to another school.

392 Ari { 07.26.12 at 1:07 pm }

I’m still surprised that people use the “they signed a contract, they deserve to be criticised” excuse when bullying contestants. They may be open to criticism, bit it is YOU as a person who can tell yourself that just because they are open to criticism does not mean you have to be a critic. It’s one thing I have learned in my life so far. Treat others as yourself. People may get annoyed by things like Alice’s glasses, or Andy’s possible grooming, or Mindy’s favouritism but it is up to you to tell yourself where you should draw a line.

393 Paul { 07.26.12 at 1:10 pm }

A.P and Dr T – you are both nice posters and I will take your points on board.

JLo – you make me laugh. Please stay.

394 Culinary Boner { 07.26.12 at 1:10 pm }

Groan…
in this grey, grey, grey world…
heaven help us in our struggle against those zealots who think it’s all black and white and that they have all the answers.

Can we please let Dr T @391 be the last word on this?

Otherwise I’ll be forced to use some logic to show Paul why he’s even got the wrong end of the stick on why (and in which contexts) the racist derogative – nigger – is offensive.

395 Dr T { 07.26.12 at 1:13 pm }

Apologies CB… have requested deletion of 396, just saw your comment at 395

396 JStar { 07.26.12 at 1:19 pm }

@A.P. – To be fair, I didn’t actually write a musical. More like misappropriated the title song from a Sidney Poitier film. So I like to think of myself more as a thief than a bully. :P

397 Joseph Skyrim { 07.26.12 at 1:22 pm }

Good thing there are no niggers, faggots, or offensive religious fuckers in MC all-stars.

Sorry, couldn’t help it. I’ll stop pressing buttons now (and I don’t mean keyboard buttons). =P

Love you JStar, in my mind you are the greatest musical composer in the world! Now hurry up and do your Survivor final recap!

402 Georgie { 07.26.12 at 1:33 pm }

Paul, #386 – “Calling a black person a ‘n**ger’ for example is not acceptable. But the argument I’m getting here is that if one person finds that acceptable , then we should all sit back and cop it.”

Yes the term ‘n**ger’ is offensive, however it’s okay for dark skinned people to use it.

You used the term ‘retarded’ in one of your posts the other day – if that’s okay then I assume you’re retarded!

If comments made on this blog are ‘criminal’ as you put it, then the law should be alerted. If there’s an avenue available to deal with this sort of behaviour on the Internet, why haven’t you initiated action yet instead of dripping away like Chinese water torture? (Is it okay to use the word Chinese there? Not sure…)

403 Reality Raver { 07.26.12 at 1:37 pm }

joseph – tang and oreos – gross

404 JLo { 07.26.12 at 1:39 pm }

No, RR. It is more that I strongly feel there is a different standard on what we can or cannot say or what we can or cannot do on this blog.

1. We have told us to repect Paul on his guest post but in return he shows us no respect to us at all but you did not say a word about him.

2. We were having fun using google translator during one of the Saturday but we were being told off. But the same was not applied to Paul with his repeated offensive behavior.

3. Whenever Paul is picking a fight, we were told to ignore him. Whenever we try to defend ourselves, we were told not to bait.

4. At the end, I do not know what I should write, how I should behave. So it is best I back off.

As always, I love you blog and I have always supported you and will always continue to be.

405 JLo { 07.26.12 at 1:40 pm }

OK everyone lets move on have fun with Masterchef All-Stars which starts tonight! Hopefully BDD you will stay.

411 Culinary Boner { 07.26.12 at 2:51 pm }

Raver, can you do us a quick preview post on All Stars naming the teams and the contestants (better leave out the nicknames).

It will help me know who I’m rooting for other than Badenoch.

Welcome back, bdd.

412 lulu { 07.26.12 at 3:02 pm }

Omg.
Like the Austrian ‘roid said, ‘I’ll be barrck.’ bdd just needs a little cajoling – has only temporarily succumbed to this war of attrition. Just like the contestants ‘ signed up for it’ … with all the ensuing compliments and insults … so did we, effectively. If we choose to post on a blog, we have to expect views contrary to ours – even an insult or two. This stuff is not for the faint-hearted.
Unless it’s AP, Daze or Ari, Ari, adorable as ever.

Georgie #335, agree re the passive-aggressive, giveth with one hand, taketh .. etc mentality. Quite clever, really and a standard attention-seeker’s tactic.
JLo – you’re fabulous, a mine of info.; really enjoyed your (&the ‘brains trust’) account of holidaying in China, the food etc….yes, I actually read it! Very interesting.
Bruiser Brody – hear, hear. And I love ‘Legohead!’ One of the funniest ever – who coined that?

So bdd, forze! Show some Anzac spirit … ‘You’re a better man than …Gunga Din’ … ‘We shall fight them on the beaches …’
ok, enough with the military references.

btw Paul, he didn’t only have a go at women … he had a go at you too, right? ….. unless ..

413 lulu { 07.26.12 at 3:04 pm }

Oh, just saw bdd’s back already – and after all the effort I went to.
Haha, my bad.

If I recall correctly it was segments of the official media, more so than blogs or thems that posts on blog forums, that when commenting on Claire W-B’s somewhat interesting love life gave her the official title of “homewrecker”
http://www.popsugar.com.au/Controversial-MasterChef-contestant-Claire-Winton-Burn-engageddiscuss-9721162

Guess these are the same people calling out Liesel Jones for having the audacity to masquerade the body of a Saturday morning swimming lesson mother’s group member as an elite, high-performance athlete. Bloody criminals.

Yeh Daze, ‘the beaches’ was Churchill, Gunga Din is Kipling, Anzac spirit is just oft’ quoted. And to you, a pleasure.

I hope Julia’s having a good day.

Thanks LULU, I’m not all that adorable really, I’ve said things on here too that I wish I hadn’t just like all of us, but like Daze said, we are like a family who fights and breaks up and hopefully kiss and make up!
$TAY BDD and JLO!

@JLo – RE post 390. If possible, I would not like to be brought into your discussions. I try and be fair to everyone and speak my mind.

I’m sorry if you have a problem with that but it’s your problem, not mine. I don’t like to be told that I have ‘bullish manners’ or like to have words put into my mouth.

I don’t always appreciate what you have written but I choose not to comment and ignore what you have posted. I’ll ask you politely to do the same so there are no further ‘misunderstandings’.

RR: Sorry, was offline for a while. Yes, the beefcake photo was the Australian men’s swim team. I was already planning to watch the Olympics swimming competitions but now I’m definitely going to make it a point to do so :->

Hi RR,

Thanks so much for the recaps of Masterchef.

QUESTION FOR JULIA
Sorry, needed caps in case you’re over reading comments on this post.

I’m intrigued by her studies. She spent 8 years at uni. She was going to pursue a PhD (as someone with a PhD, I’m interested in people’s studies). What exactly did she study? Did she get a music/languages degree (plus honours) and then pursue other subjects that she didn’t graduate in? Or did she do a masters as well?

I really wanted Julia to win, but knew that it was destined for Andy. I did love how she gave the least impressive versions of her dessert to G and G. Haha, no love lost there.

427 lulu { 07.26.12 at 6:59 pm }

Is dd prefaced by a ‘b?’ If so, :)

428 dd { 07.26.12 at 7:20 pm }

lulu, I think not. We have very different tones!

429 Marepoppin { 07.26.12 at 8:18 pm }

That was exhausting.
Paul, get off your high horse. No one hates you, we just don’t like being policed.
BDD, don’t take your ball and go home, that’s a bit childish even for you.
JLo needs to stay, if only to spill the beans on the finale feed she attended
Alright. MCA. Julia should have won.

430 Chris W { 07.27.12 at 12:10 am }

Don’t know if anyone’ll read this at #430, but for what its worth I’ll add my two bits on BDD vs Paul.

I found this blog a little after the start of Season 4 and was immediately noted that the one-liners that got most laughs were by BDD. Occasionally he went over the top to the point of being offensive, but I just ignored those ones. Heck, even Fawlty Towers, the greatest sit-com ever made, has the odd tasteless joke.

In the “Audra Was Very Lucky Thread” I included a non-serious suggestion that there should be a separate thread for Paul and the Troll that perhaps should have had more of an explanation. My observation is that when BDD gets cheesed off, the ratio of trash to gems becomes very high. A classic example was “The fake orange zit farm failed to cook a barra. Game over, moll.” (#37 on “Audra Was Very Lucky”), which is the sort of thing one might hear in a school yard.

Then we have one of Paul’s responses including the word “retard” which I doubt that I’ve heard much of since school years either.

Paul’s expectation that people shouldn’t say things to people that they wouldn’t say to their faces is unrealistic. Letter pages in newspapers have always been full of criticism of people in the public eye saying things that are impolite. Having said that, nasty comments such as previously mentioned aren’t acceptable.

Reality television pretty much requires leaving the brain at the door before switching on, and MC/MKR are my only guilty pleasures in that vein. I don’t expect blog posts on these shows to be particularly heavy, but mostly irreverent, adult, non-PC fun (without lots of swear words), which this site has produced for the overwhelming majority of the season. I rarely make more than one post a day (if that), but enjoy reading the back and forth commentary between the regular posters, with BDD being a standout for quick wit.

As much as I agree with Paul that there is no place for out and out personal nastiness, the way he has gone about making his point has made things worse and this blog unpleasant reading over the past few days. I would much rather have the blog back the way it was and I’ll just shake my head when BDD goes OTT. Who knows, perhaps if we NICELY say that we find a particular comment seriously offensive, we may get an apology. Few of us haven’t sent emails or posts that couldn’t, in hindsight, have been more appropriately written.

P.S. It’s hard not to notice that most of BDD’s defenders are female despite Paul’s insistence of his abusive attitude towards women.

431 Moonstruck { 07.27.12 at 12:32 am }

Well said Chris W.

432 brain dead dave { 07.27.12 at 1:07 am }

It was well listened to as well, thanks, Chris W.

Your assessment of the quality of the quote included is very fair. Thanks for taking the time.

I will, however ,insist that the phrase “Game over, moll’ is derived from the reality show Big Brother as a variation of the well known “Game on, moll” rather than a schoolyard. Since Ma$terchef an MKR are your only reality tv squeezes, it might not be apparent that it’s a play on a BB chestnut~if indeed there is such a thing..

I’m quite familiar with the nature of material in Fawlty Towers , having played Manuel for some time in a theatre restaurant production of the show ie The Germans , Hotel Inspector. Not very PC at all.

433 Baz { 07.27.12 at 1:54 am }

As I’ve stated in another post, it is the ugly side of human nature to be critical, judgemental, opinionated and a little insulting especially about people we see on tv. We’ve ALL said unpleasant things about people behind their backs. We’ve all called people nasty names. Anybody who says they haven’t is a liar. Don’t bitch things that you wouldn’t say to their faces? Puh-lease, as if Paul has never bitched about anybody behind their backs at some point in his mundane life. Again I reiterate, it isn’t nice and we really shouldn’t do it but guess what, THAT’S LIFE. Get over it or don’t bother checking in back here.

The thing that pisses me off is it has come to the point that people can’t even criticise the show, the format, the rules, the challenges, the favouritism (and nobody can deny that it was happening) without receiving one of Paul’s trademark tongue lashings. As Georgie mentioned before, I made an observation about the judges’ pronunciation of chef names which I believed to be fair. But lo and behold, Paul was having none of it.

It’s effing free speech you halfwit. Frankly I find your attacks and attempt to belittle others for voicing their honest thoughts to be disgusting, nasty and lot more offensive than anything bdd or anybody else has said. But of course being so deluded and self-righteous, you no doubt would still want to burn me at the stake for daring to add in my 2 cents. You are a crazy, nasty, spiteful bully. A majority of commenters here doesn’t give a toss about you. Take a hint. Crawl back to your gutter you troll.

434 A.P { 07.27.12 at 8:44 am }

Well said Baz and Chris W ! I’m away for the weekend, having a break from the computer, hopefully things will get back to normal, don’t really feel like commenting at the moment.
$tay BDD.

435 Mike { 07.27.12 at 10:00 am }

Surprised at how many people didn’t think Andy should have won. My wife have been “team Andy” since that elimination where they kept both of them. His dishes are so much more sophisticated than many of the other contestants and he isn’t stuck in a narrow range like some who are great at “Asian flavours” — Surprised Julia was a fave for so many. I was hoping for her to be eliminated for a long time and only just started warming to her in the past few weeks. Good result. Glad she got 15k and her Zumbo.

436 Culinary Boner { 07.27.12 at 10:43 am }

Comments #430 (Chris W), #433 (Baz) and #390 (Dr T) – amongst many others – are a clarion call for sanity and getting things into proper perspective on this site’s excellent posting section and the often clever and funny input provided by BDD.

Back in in the 1930s in the disadvantaged New York precinct of Harleem the Apollo Theater began allowing the talented and untalented to strut their stuff on stage at its weekly Amateur Night.

In the much the same way as today’s reality TV wannabees, these musical or vaudeville performing wannabees in their pursuit of fame and attention took on their own heads to risk the boos, hisses and ridicule of the audience should they be nowhere near as good as they imagined when singing in the shower.

For every James Brown – http://www.apollotheater.org/images/left/the-sixties.jpg
or Ella Fitzgerald
there’d be thousands more who’d, if lucky, would be greeted with indifference (that’s spelt ‘meh’ if you is Gen Y or addicted to Twitter).

While others would cop the full torrent of crowd abuse for the well-deserved sin of being really, really awful. As in these recent cases –
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XWTZWH7S-Yk
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8ynjbJGcOY8 (this one is actually funny for the fact that this wannbee comedian even gets booed backstage)

Perhaps the problem for some reality TV wannabees is that they get to be booed or ridiculed for a lot longer than one 3-5 minute performance*.

But then again, they signed up for it.

* This is starting to sound like my sex life.

Yes ditto – well said CW, Baz, Marepoppin and CB. In fact ‘well said’ anyone who tries to bring some common sense back to this blog.

If there are hate campaigns and death threats going on elsewhere then go there to fix it – it’s not happening here.

Andy was a worthy winner, he peaked at the right time and delivered great food. Was rooting for Julia to win but her undercooked lamb did her in. This year’s finale was kinda underwhelming though, maybe because finals week was kinda rushed.

442 Reality Raver { 07.27.12 at 8:56 pm }

Kingfisher – that comment gave me one of the best laughs all week

443 Morgan { 08.30.12 at 8:15 pm }

I’m still not sure why so many people on here thought Julia deserved to win in the Final 2. She had undercooked lamb, and she did stuff up the dessert. Don’t get me wrong, I love her as well and would have been just as happy of she had won instead of Andy, but all in all Andy was the better cook on the night, and I think most people are just bitter that she lost. If she had won, with her mistakes, would people be kicking up such a fuss?

444 Nick { 08.30.12 at 8:26 pm }

Spot on, Morgan. Goes to show it’s not just the judges who play favourites.
