Guest Post: Big Brother Australia Launch Night – The Rundown On The Show And Housemates
Big Brother Australia is going to be huge, there is much excitement about the new series of this show which will start on Channel NINE tonight at 7pm.
And lucky for Reality Ravings readers we have a guest post from someone who was at the taping last night at the Dreamworld Big Brother compound.
Megsy and Mira give us the insider gossip as on all that happened at the first show to be seen on our screens tonight. If you want tonight to be a total surprise read no further as has some minor spoilers about housemates.
Here is their take on it all:
WILL Big Brother 2012 see a geeky boy from the bush get his first kiss, a British bombshell snag an Aussie surfer and our first impromptu rockerbilly reality performance?
From 20,000 Big Brother hopefuls, producers have done a fine job putting together a diverse mix housemates who entered the Dreamworld-based house last night.
We met 10 housemates – seven girls and three boys, with promises of four more boys tomorrow night.
From a towering country girl to a feisty skater girl with a humanitarian heart and a shaggy haired hipster the housemates will be sure to provide plenty of entertainment for fans of the fly on the wall style reality show.
The booming voice of Big Brother echoed through the house again last night, after a four-year absence, as the seven excitable, squawking girls were given a task.
Every housemate has a secret to protect. No surprise there, after the constant Channel Nine promos during the Olympics.
The girls’ task over the next week is to match the seven secrets with the seven boys.
Who is a multi millionaire? Who has the IQ of a genius? Who was a juvenile delinquent? And who has a fear of birds after an unfortunate emu incident?
The house itself provided plenty of secrets, with the girls stowed away with a tray of champagne in the pretty in pink parlour. The kitchen is decked out in 50s theme down to the refrigerator, while the lounge room boasts a Opera House inspired look (and as first housemate in the house Michael would say “there’s so much room for activities”). The sleeping arrangements are somewhat communal, with the 14 beds split into blocks of two or three.
Now on the Nine network four years after Channel 10 retired the long-running reality series, new host Sonia Kruger is at the helms.
Kruger has a lot riding on the success of the rebooted series risking it all to switch networks from Seven to Nine to host Big Brother.
Dressed in neon pink heels and shiny silver pants the svelte host was all smiles and confidence as she met the housemates for the first time.
Her smile didn’t falter even during a filming mishap when a firework became wedged in the roof and started a small fire. Fire extinguishes were on hand and the show went on.
A good omen according to BB narrator Mike Goldman who said the 2012 season was on “FIRE”.
Being part of the BB launch audience wasn’t without its duties, with plenty of re-takes, applause shots and shuffling. The gift shop till was ringing, with BB fans jumping on the latest merchandise, a god-send probably for Dreamworld and BB bosses.
Oh yes, shuffling. BB producers have taken the LMFAO hit and run with it, literally. Look out for the BB promo today, with the entire audience “shuffling” as Sonia gets the hype going.
Spotted at the launch night filming was former 2008 Big Brother winner Terri Munro who was nicknamed the ‘naughty nanna’ of the house. She tried to go incognito in the lineup, but diehard fans could see behind the jacket and sunglasses and Terri once again embraced her 15 minutes of fame and took some fan photos.
Clearly Australia is still watching, nine seasons on.
Big Brother is on tonight at 7pm and continues tomorrow with the first live show at 7pm on Channel Nine.
