Masterchef All Stars – Two Favourites Eliminated
When Marion, Poh and Kate were announced bottom three it was obvious who was going home, as Kate as winner of Season Three was always going to be safe.
How Callum with his powdery prawns managed to avoid the bottom two was astonishing as well.
A cynical part of me thinks that the final will be Julie versus Kate if there is two in it, and add Callum in if it is three person final.
This would mean one person from each “team”, and the highest ranked person from each series. It is a tad ironic the team from the most popular second season only has one left in it.
Tonight was a mystery box with difference they had to use the box as fuel for an outdoor bbq to cook their dish on. A bit like Masterchef meets Survivor. However they did not have to kill the chicken or prawns found in the box.
Chris immediately got into beer mode however he did not do ‘big Kev’s’ chicken on a beer can technique he braised the leeks in it. The judges liked it but were not as effusive about it as some of the other dishes.
Kate made a BBQ chicken with potatoes the big criticism for her was she served it on a board so the chicken juices soaked into it. Chris served his the same way but it did not attract that criticism.
The judges loved Julie’s garlic chicken skewers with flat bread and a tomato salad and yoghurt dressing and it did look delicious.
Justine made Tunisian Salad made of roasted capsicums with BBQ Prawns. George thought the salad was too chunky however after tasting it he said “Another idea I will steal”.
Poh made Tumeric chicken with a relish. The chicken was thought to be nice but the George thought the relish was inspiring, George had never eaten anything like it.
Marion’s made Lemongrass skewers with prawn and chicken. It looked amazing but George thought it needed a little bit of tweaking, and Gary said there needed to be more flavour.
Flavour was not lacking from Dani’s Chicken Tostada’s with chargrilled corn. “You’ve just won us right now” said George. This dish with Julie’s was awarded the top two positions.
The bottom three were Poh, Marion and Kate, with the two fan favourites Poh and Marion eliminated. It is interesting that in the three week format there were no eliminations in the first five episodes so eliminations have had to be squashed into the following two weeks. There are now six contestants left if one is eliminated each night this week this will leave two for Sunday night’s finale.

Thanks again for the recap RR, I missed all but the last two minutes due to forgetting it was starting an hour earlier because of Everybody Dance Now. Poh and Marion were the only reason I was watching All Stars, and now that they’re gone, I have no reason to watch this bullshit. I’ll just be sticking to your recaps where in a weeks time I’ll be reading that Dani Venn wins MasterChef All Stars.
Poor Poh and Marion, their reputations have been tainted. Bring on MKR4!
Indeed I was expecting Callum in the final 2. It is a final 3, next Sunday.
I agree Morgan, bring on MKR. And thank God TAR is back on tonight, 3 nights in a row, yay.
Really disappointed. Poh and Marion were the best there, they were my favourites!
I also hate the format how they left eliminations for so long and now they’re doing it in two’s.
Last nights episode was infuriating. Kate’s dish was heavily criticised and Pohs was praises. Yet Poh goes home. I think I’ll find a new show to watch.
Are those boxes made from plywood?
You shouldn’t even burn plywood, let alone eat food cooked on it – that stuff releases toxins from the glue and chemicals used to manufacture it.
Georgie – if that is the case that is a OH&S breach!
Haha like Morgan I tuned in a bit late. Quite pleased to see those two leave though as I’ve never pictured them as “winners”. Then again, Dani is still there so…
Would like to see Chris B. get revenge on Julie but given its a dessert tonight, he’s probably in trouble.
Why does beginning of the episode that they make it so obvious of who will be going home? They showed a lot of Marion/Poh in the episode which was good to watch but to watch them get eliminated, I got a bit sad because I’ll miss their happy faces. Luckily for dani she cooked a dish that the judges liked, hence she is STILL THERE!!!!
The low number of comments on this blog during this series compared to MC4 probably tells the story of how much interest there is. I must admit to just having it as background filler as I did something else – the show just feels completely contrived. Maybe its time that reality shows had to make a disclosure statement at the end of the credits as to how real they are!
RR: You appear not to have tagged this post under “Masterchef Australia” as the CWA challenge is still coming up as the most recent MA post when that category is selected.
Sad to say but with Poh & Marion gone I won’t be watching anymore. It’s a shame they seem to be playing this “winners’ of previous seasons game that has them sending those into the finals. If you look at the format of Survivor or the Amazing Race Allstars seasons, its good to sometimes see a earlier eliminated team or individual player get the chance to shine. All that’s left are over rated “cooks” Julie, Kate & Julia VS boring personalities Chris & Callum…..oh and the terribly annoying Dani.
Georgie, I was wondering the same thing.
Thanks Chris W will go in and change tags.
Chasingvegas – I hope the whole premise of All Stars is not to make it look like the right person had won each series. I suppose what is always the case is we get peeved when our faves get eliminated.
Though have to confess I had not rated Callum when he came back in but I like his focus and attitude and am now hoping he wins.
JK – Only have to ensure you don’t have the worst dishes to stay in. Luck goes a long way in this show. You can cook a dud dish in a non-elimination round with no impact on your standing. I wish they had eliminated one contestants every second ep I think different outcomes would have occurred.
Joseph Skyrim – when they showcase someone in the preview it is normally a sign they are safe!
TV Addict – what about Callum’s powerdery prawns and he did not make bottom three. The prawn heads must have got him over the line.
What a disappointment this is, and I suspect it’s the first and last of MCAllStars.
The longer it continues the more I’m off Julie and Kate – and I can’t believe I’m writing this but I’m almost hoping for a Chris win! He’s come a long way …
am i allowed to post a “possible” spoiler for all-stars?
Go ahead bron, it was spoilt days ago
Must be rancid by now
Couldn’t stand Dani the first time, can’t stand her now. Im on the ‘Anyone but Dani’ team.
I’m with you, Lebay – I was surprised Dani was back for All Stars and even more surprised she is still there now. Must be “friends” with the someone on the show!
Spoilers are always good!
i missed the begin of last nite epo, i thought it started @7.30… sad to see my fav Poh & Marion gone ….and wat !? Julie is still here … T_T….
I wouldn’t mind a spoiler, bron. I’m not watching anymore of All Stars, may as well just break the news that Julie and Dani are the Final 2.
Callum should have been in the bottom three with his chalky prawns and the heads were only good as he was shown how to do them.
Chris still hasn’t won any money and he’s put up some very good dishes.
callum posted a picture of him and andy at a photoshoot a couple of weeks ago, so i’m assuming, since andy was the winner of season four, callum wins all-stars and they had some photoshoot for this.
just speculation but it’s possible
As above , I just don’t think it’s possible to spoil this frump favouring farce any more.
How many times does Gary bleat “Ma$terchef kitchin” in his opening salvo to the amatas? The show has gone belly up so badly , this is the sort of stuff that’s left to reflect on. Then George steps in to keep the ” Ma$terchef ” word count ticking over when Gazza’a exhausted and needs an uber mouthful of amata food to revive him and get him back on the gravy train.
This is $hine being effortlessly dull.
You know, I really liked the first episode of All Stars. But, a couple weeks in…I have to agree with everyone else: it’s just not a good show. It could have been great. But the format is kind of, well…stupid. All that “revisiting past challenges” stuff…urgh. Maybe it would have worked better if it had been a full-length series and they had more time.
bron, I suspect Andy makes some sort of appearance in All Stars given that there was a statement about him shooting for the series just after he won. Which is not to say Callum didn’t win of course. Always possible. To be fair to Julie and Dani, their dishes did look pretty damn good last night.
I’m over the Masterchef ‘kitchin’ too. And everything being ‘wanderful’.
Can someone tell me how it is possible fifteen minutes into the challenge to have the mystery boxes chopped up, lit and burnt down to coals and some sort of brickettes also put into the fire and sufficiently burnt down to start so as to start putting on the sacrificial offerings.
I would never be able to achieve that but then I am neither a Masterchef nor a TV editor.
Chunks, Julie’s dish did look pretty good last night but I’m always conflicted with how much sweat has possibly been added and wouldn’t risk it. RR said it looked delicious , too ,but I can’t get the serial sweating out of my mind
Georgie and Polly B, from what I’ve read this morning it’s probably a pretty big stuff up on $hine’s part to be burning Mystery Boxes, especially with an unsuspecting amata standing right over it like poor Callum trying to drop those kafir (sic?) leaves onto the coals of toxicity.
I had a closer look at the footage online this morning and it sure looks like ply. All the contestants were getting a hefty dose of the smoke too. Have you read something about it elsewhere bdd?
Yes Georgie. I also learned that burning ocean driftwood is a no no as well.
http://www.epa.gov/burnwise/bestburn.html
Jowl$y: ” It’s the explosion of formaldehyde on the palate and the silkiness of the dioxin that makes this dish one to die for”
Thanks bdd. Interesting about driftwood.
Lol – Jowlsy is lucky he’s not on MCAS.
“It all comes down to you and the wood that you burned and the toxins you inhaled today.”
Don’t blame MP not sticking around for All Stars. I wonder if he’s done with the show for good?
Couldn’t agree more RR. Callum deserved to have been eliminated tonight particularly after the judges told both Poh and Marion that the “hero” of the dish was what was barbecued. So Callum cooks powdery prawns but his prawn heads (which weren’t the “hero” of the dish) somehow keeps him safe from the bottom three. But once again, Masta Shef is rigged to ensure their boy wonder makes it through. And yes RR, it is a another finale with three people in it. Callum and Poh should have gone home based solely on the judging criteria that George & Gary used.
I noticed Dani was shocked that Kate was in the bottom three. Not sure how using the wrong material to plate up was a hangable offence. And Kate’s epilogue about Marion and Poh being two of the strongest contestants ever on Masta Shef was spot on. I noticed everyone (particularly Justine) was stunned when it was announced that those two were leaving. Everyone seemed quite upset as well.
I’m not minding the series. I quite like seeing that most contestants (and yes, groan, even Dani) have not really put a step wrong in the challenges. But the truncated feel of the series and the interruption from the Olympics have made it hard for me to feel so emotionally invested. Plus since the last two eliminations have come down to nit-picking, Gary & George’s favourtism of certain people over others really stick out this time around. I’ll still stick with the series till the end and hope the former non-smiling Chris or the delightful Justine get redemption. And Poh and Marion better do some pop-up restaurants around the country soon!
JStar – When Kate said that Poh and Marion were the two strongest cooks to ever be on the show I said out loud to the TV “You got that right! They’re way better than you!”
If a second All Star season ever happens (if MasterChef is even still around then), they shouldn’t bring back winners. It just creates silly agendas to keep them till the end otherwise they look bad if they get eliminated early on.
Touche Morgan. Kate isn’t bad (and she does learn from her mistakes) but as pointed out in some many previous posts, the strongest contestants don’t normally win. There have been so many dessert challenges which suit Kate, Callum, and Julie. And tonight is another dessert challenge/elimination.
Don’t know why I even bother to watch Masterchef anymore. If a Julia/ Kate final does happen, that’s it for me. There’s only so much bullshit I can handle. Stick it up your arse Shine.
I’m eagerly waiting for Masterchef US Season 3 to return after the friggin’ Olympics are over. At least their series is actually about cooking and is thrilling to watch and unpredictable (as it should be because nothing is rigged or contrived). It took them a while but the Yanks have really hit their stride now and got the formula right. Frankly our version is an embarrassment and it should be euthanised before it really gets pathetic. Oh wait…
RR – I think your hope that Callum Calombaris will win, will come true. On paper, he should have always been in a good position because after all, he did have that famous 3 months culinary scholarship at gorgeous George’s restaurant empire and should have learnt a thing or two, albeit in series 2 he did seem to have a serious problem taking instructions.
Still, he was very lucky last night to get that “coaching” from Gary
to effectively redo the prawn heads and that advice definitely “saved his bacon”.
It’s a shame that for whatever reason, Michael from series 3 did not get a gig on the All Stars, as after all didn’t he have a 3 months culinary sholarship at Gary’s shop? That way we, the poor viewers, that put ourselves through watching this “tripe” could have had a bit of a sideshow to see who was the best out of Callum and Michael. However, maybe there was only room for one culinary scholar on the All Stars as we wouldn’t want one of George or Gary’s egos to be bruised if their boy came up second best.
Anyway, as I said the other day, Chris and Callum are still safe as even with Po and Marion now sadly gone, there’s still too many birds left.
I just love Bron’s conspiracy theory (fact or fiction?) that Callum must be the winner because of the Callum and Andy photo shoot.
Baz, I feel the same, it needs to be put out of its misery asap. They have ruined a good show.
I tried to watch a bit of it but just can’t be bothered anymore, besides, it needs to go to make way for new shows such as X.Factor, Big Brother, Puberty Blues, House Husbands.
We just can’t watch everything …..Sigh!
Why is Legohead still in this show? She coasted through season 3 “remaking” the burger over and over again and clearly can’t cook. Same goes for Julie, she just gets in a mess and her food rarely looks appetising
I guess I don’t mind Callum getting through as I like him and he’s been doing well outside of last night. His dishes look yummy and like something you’d see in a restaurant. Also hoping Christ gets through.
There is a minor spoiler in this week’s Navy News, one of this week’s challenges is on a Navy ship and the accompanying photo gives away one of the top 4.
Yes Cheryl and you can clearly see another contestant in the background of the picture. So we know two of the four.
Here’s a bigger spoiler…. Callum and Chirs and in the final…. they have shot two endings with Chris winning one and Callum winning the other one but we all know that Callum has won it as he tweeted he is doing media on Sunday
Master Chef Australia is one of my favorite reality TV programme, unfortunately we are just seeing season 2 in Sweden. George, Gary and Matt makes the programme very interesting and I love the Master Class.
