Big Brother Australia – Is It Aiming At Juveniles?

Big Brother is evil as he told Josh he was going to be sent into the captain’s quarters to have lunch with the new intruder Ava, however this won’t happen until tomorrow night on screen.

It was lucky she had a spa so Josh was able to ogle her in her bikini.

It was obvious Ava was put in the house because of her looks, how many gratuitous shots could they give the viewer of her in a bikini?

However lucky for her she was out of the inanity that was the latest challenge. It was a David Attenborough documentary challenge where each housemate had to role play an animal. It must have been aimed at the 12 years old watching the show as it was childish, banal, and about as interesting as seeing the guys being dressed up by Stacey in drag.

And keeping with the child friendly theme, after the show you were able to tweet with Surly via Twitter and Facebook. Maybe they think it is compensation for not giving the viewer any adult content. It is not.

In other Big Brother news Angie was upset about being nominated but was trying not to show it as she had a private sob in the bathroom. Her and Estelle are now best buddies again because they now have their nominations in common.

The two guys, George and Josh, who are getting action in the house are the ones mooching over exes on the outside. Go figure.

Ben, Stacey, Josh and Michael continued to bitch this time talking about Ray having short man syndrome.

However Ray does seem a bit irritating. He is a bit nuts as he seems to think he will be popular with viewers because he is a vet. Though 50 per cent of the voters saved him so maybe his theory is correct.

The under 12s I reckon RR .. it’s so juvenile it’s not worth watching. I’m sure they must be given alcohol so it would be interesting to see how they interact after some of that.

There’s an interview with Ryan in the DailyTel today – he’s just got his degree, apparently same one as Michael, but he’s going to continue with his modelling!

The fascination with hair continues – why doesn’t Michael just put it in a crunchie so that it doesn’t bother him so much, but I think it goes deeper than that – I think his hair (which would be so beautiful on a girl!) is his security blanket! Perhaps they are all missing their mobiles so much that they need something to do with their hands!

My 14 and 18 years were excited for BB, and yet after watching one or two eps have walked away completely. They don’t like Sonia Kruger
( because they think she’s too old and trying to be hip with the kids), but mainly because there is no live stream to watch when they want to. This generation does not respond to being given a timeslot to adhere to. I saw the housemates wearing silly hats when I was channel flicking last night and it looked pretty terrible.

I was actually cringing watching the animal task.Judging by the look on some of the housemates so were they…I just flipped channels..honestly talk about Play School !
Re the “Bollywood Beauty”..well a bit dissappointed..was expecting someone REALLY stunning to shake things up..will be confusing her with Layla..interesting that the guys miss their girlfriends in real life..there is hope yet for the male species!

4 A.P { 09.12.12 at 8:13 am }

It was kind of humiliating for the housemates, especially making Angie smash banana all over her face and hair, was that just for the pleasure of the hidden camera crew? I don’t think she wanted to do it and it all looked so childish.
For heavens sake just get Ava in the house instead of dragging it out all week to get viewers to watch! We won’t be watching it live anyway so it will be edited and not the same at all.
It would be good if the producers took note of our comments or there won’t be another season of BB next year.
As for Ben and his little posse, they are just saying bad things against Ray because they want the viewers to turn against him and evict him. Ben would be better off trying to make friends with Ray because I think he’s more popular than Estelle and Angie.

Agree about Sonia – not that she’s too old, but she’s so wooden. She seems to be reading from a teleprompter all the time, there’s nothing impromptu about her presentation at all – bring back Gretel!

Ben is a bitch – did his eyes light up when Bradley came out in drag? Angie is two faced as well – all over Estelle to whom she gave 3 or 4 points!

6 Suziekue { 09.12.12 at 9:38 am }

Oooo – the scenes of Josh being encouraged to perve on Ava in secret were very icky in the extreme, and had me cringing. It’s like BB serving up fresh meat to the blokes – what is this, some sort of BB backroom boys voyeurism club? If this show is aimed at younger people, then what a lousy message to send to them. Methinks the producers (and they must be mostly blokes to serve up this crap), must have been getting their ideas from “Puberty Blues” about the value of young women, because BB is sure as hell taking us back in time. Very very yucky stuff indeed.

7 Sandy { 09.12.12 at 9:41 am }

I don’t think Ava will be much competition for the other girls. I don’t think she is a krystal or Katie from previous seasons. I think she might be as boring as the rest

8 brain dead dave { 09.12.12 at 10:53 am }

How predictable to send the uber bore Josh into see the “trudie”? Whenever that happens, it’s being painfully dragged out. We’ve seen Ava without make up now. Yawn.

When Ch 10 was doing BB , the upper viewer demographic aimed at was 49 years. It must be closer to 4.9 this year.

The jungle challenge is strictly kid’s stuff.

BB could send a successful, intelligent, hot trudie in – but that kind of person would never audition for this load of rubbish. It ‘s not pleasant viewing.

Fakes like Ben and Angie are just stinking the joint up now, making it hard to watch .

9 Kelsta { 09.12.12 at 11:18 am }

To be honest, I fell asleep on the couch through last nights ep – all of the animal stuff was cringe-worthy.

I think Angie is fake and will go on Sunday.

Ray’s isn’t that bad a bloke – a bit on the arrogant side, but at least he’s more interesting than BORING George and Josh.

Lucky for George that he’ s got money to keep the fake chicks interested, but what has Josh got to offer other than the fantastic ability to wash his pants in hot water and shrink them?

I wonder what their quasi-girlfriends on the outside think of them cuddling up to other chicks on the inside?

I think the girls will love the new chick at first, but will become bitchy behind their back (Estelle excluded), but if the guys get interested, there will be some tears and fireworks.

10 Sioux Denim { 09.12.12 at 1:15 pm }

Kelsta – LMAO with your comment on Josh’s pants!!!! Aren’t they hideous?

Loving that Ray is getting food again over the HM’s – that will piss off Ben no end.

The new challenge is just plain embarrassing.. thankfully am taping it now so dont have to sit through all the BS.

11 Calliegirl { 09.12.12 at 2:32 pm }

Suzieque – you totally summed it up to perfection. Couldn’t agree more.

12 brain dead dave { 09.12.12 at 2:40 pm }

Suziekue got it right. The tacky focus on housemates as meat is making this show more like Big Brothel.

13 Bolders { 09.12.12 at 4:12 pm }

BDD agree with you on the tackiness of this show and the fakeness of Ben (cannot stand him inside and out). The ONLY redeeming feature is there not being an uplate episode – the less soft porn we have on free to air TV the better. I mean come on, what sort of desperados need to see that for titilation.

I think there have been some highly questionable actions taken by the producers which to my mind were unethical. Chief of these was putting Bradley on the spot with regards to him agreeing to having his first kiss on TV to win some bullshit weekly game. Was he given warning that this could be done to him? And even if the argument was that he could have refused – I wonder whether he really could’ve have made that decision freely when refusing would have meant losing the task. And Bradley isnt the sort of character that can stand up for himself very well.

Also what about the bullying he is being subjected to repeatedly by that moron Ben? Ben last week described Bradley’s body as “hideous” in front of the other housemates this follows him throwing a glass of water in his face. And Ben is the one that is nominating people for not taking guidance from him because he is older and has more “life experience”.

Honestly, the stupidity and hubris is breathtaking.

Still waiting for George to be able to complete a full sentence.

14 Mahlia { 09.12.12 at 4:27 pm }

I agree – the childish challenge is boring.
The producers really need to take a leaf out of UK BB. They’re gold for teasing the housemates and getting them out of their comfort zone.

The casting is all over the place…Sonia is too old, trying to be young. The tweets on air most often from teen girls. (the name Bieber features in many)

Ava is not seductive enough to really cause a storm. I predict she wont have too much of an impact.

15 A.P { 09.12.12 at 4:29 pm }

BDD, I’m not that keen on Ben either as I feel he likes to cause trouble between different housemates but do you think the show might get even more boring than it already is if he goes?
They always try to keep the most interesting housemates in whether they are nice or not.
The wrong mix of people are in the house in my opinion, no one is real, all playing the game.
I saw an old picture of George in TV Week today without his dreadlocks and he looked so much better! I read that he gets them redone every six months and they take 8 hours to do! Why would you bother? Does he have a slight eye problem too like they mentioned that Estelle has which I’ve never noticed? Sorry to pick on any imperfections they might have.

16 Suziekue { 09.12.12 at 5:22 pm }

I agree Bolders, the forced participation of housemates in tasks that may compromise their personal mores is unethical. We saw it again last night when BB told Estelle to roll in the mud and make cosy with the other two male housemates. All three looked embarrassed, clearly not comfortable with BB’s request.

Having said that though, the sexual posturing of Ava in the captain’s quarter prior to entry to the house got me wondering whether she was specifically coached beforehand to put on a soft-porn show. Either that or in real life she’s a soft-porn star and was recruited by BB.

17 brain dead dave { 09.12.12 at 6:21 pm }

I doubt that George will ever complete a full sentence- unless he goes to prison. Re his eyes, I think his right eye is cross eyed, at last it looks that way in the nomination booth….but it’s no excuse for not having a personality or for the beige cadaver having infantile reasons for nominating people.

A. P, Ben is such a sly bitch and Bolders has correctly pointed out his bullying of Bradley, so I hope he goes…but a few more weeks of his massively annoying qualities will keep viewers awake, if nothing else.

Ava may have come from an agency-an escort agency.

18 Eliza { 09.13.12 at 12:01 am }

My thoughts exactly, Bolders. Doesn’t make it any better, but I am hoping that it wasn’t really his first kiss! You never know.. Even though I have not been an avid watcher of BB over the years, from what I have seen (and given that most do seem to be in the entertainment industry of some sort/have aspirations to be), this years bunch are very bland.

Also, what ever happened to the Friday night games that ch10 did?! Now that might bring back some excitement *pictures them smashing each other with foam batons gladiator style*

19 SomeoneSensible { 09.13.12 at 1:22 pm }

@ The Oracle : where was Ava ever called a ‘Bollywood beauty’? I dont think she looks like anyone in Bollywood?

20 Dazzle PP { 09.13.12 at 11:48 pm }

The Big Brother FB page is banning people from supporting the anti-bullying message on R U OK day. If its aimed at juveniles then its showing them that bullying is ok. Channel 9 has a lot to answer for.

21 John { 09.14.12 at 11:44 am }

How are the ratings holding up one wonders,with cringe-inducing schtick like the animal task being served up!!!!
