Big Brother Australia – If It is Family Friendly Why All The Hooking Up Story Lines

Is it only me finding it a bit ironic that they keep on putting people in the house who are happy to hook up when they keep on talking about the family friendly format? This seems to go against the family friendly ethos of the show as we see some kissing but that is about it.

The Daily Telegraph wrote today that Josh and Ava indulged in kissing and light petting. I must have missed the petting when I was yawning.

If it is family friendly not sure why they are pushing on the “romance” storylines. Should they just put someone in the house who can hold a conversation?

At this stage no on knows that Sam is in the Captain’s Quarters except for Bradley who was sent in there with pictures of the girls and told to discuss them with him. Of course he thought Layla and Estelle were the two hotties. Stacey “looked like a lot of fun” which is code for he won’t want to shag her and also he thought he would have a lot in common with Zoe as they are both from the country.

Clearly the Gold Coast is not as small as we thought with Sam who is a similar age to Angie appeared to not know her.

By Big Brother showing him the photos of the girls does that imply his role in the house is to try and hook up with one. Considering Sam appears to be more into the body beautiful, Michael will also be underwhelmed by the new intruder.

In other Big Brother news Estelle was very upset about being nominated again. Zoe has decided to take a stand against Angie’s bitching and try and get to know Estelle better.

She told Big Brother that Angie’s gossiping was getting her down. Funny that her friend Ben’s bitching doesn’t have the same effect on her.

Josh and Ava have definitely hooked up but she appeared to be more affectionate to Estelle one morning than Josh. Those girls do appear to have some chemistry together.

Angie is hoping the new guy will turn Ava’s head so Josh will know what it feels like to be rejected.

Josh does appear to be quite into Ava but did mention he was hoping Angie wasn’t too angry with him.

The challenge this week was a radio task met very enthusiastically by the housemates as most will be hoping for a job in that medium when they get out.

Stacey showed she was indeed the funniest person in the house when her and Benjamin were doing a fashion show on the radio. However being seen to bitch with Benjamin all the time is not going to help her win.

Big Brother Australia on weeknights on NINE at 7pm.

There are those who may think Sam has a great body, but I think he has the perfect head for radio.

Sam’s a cross between a male escort and the Son of Frankenstein.

3 Isabel { 09.19.12 at 11:46 am }

BDD, I think we are on the same wave length here!

4 Jason { 09.19.12 at 12:02 pm }

I was wondering if Sam has had a motorcycle accident at some stage. Either that or he had to have a lobotomy prior to entering the house!

5 Stacey { 09.19.12 at 12:17 pm }

Line of the night goes to Stacey:
“I can just stay home and water the garden while wearing a low and sensible heel.”

Sneak peek at latest BB ‘intruder’…

* Oh. Hang on. Senator Cory Bernardi will not approve.

Ahhh the BB meat market, down down, prices are down….BB lines up photos of the women in the house for Sam to salivate over. It’s a wonder they weren’t labelled: Layla and Estelle – a couple slices of rib fillet – easily done over on the BBQ; Stacey – suitable for a bit of braising fun but only if there’s nothing quicker in the fridge; Zoe – lamb chops in a self-denigrating marinade; and finally Ava ..ahh Ava – an infusion of T-Bone and fish taco for Sunday brunch when you just can’t decide which way the weather will turn.

Jason – probably the latter appears to be a requirement to get into the house.

Susiekue – Could not stop laughing.

Sam doesn’t appeal to me either. Why was Bradley told to mention only the girls and discuss them, what about the guys, its not a meat market BB for your pleasure!
As RR said, what about the family friendly show, they seem to say one thing and do another.
Zoe is being nice to Estelle now for the same reason as Ben, she’s realized Estelle has support outside and doesn’t want to be seen as a bully and of course she is a follower and not a leader.
Why do they drag out the intruder entering the house over three nights, just let him in for god’s sake!
Angie should have nominated that player Josh for eviction after he dumped her for Ava, wish the popular group would get nominated instead of picking on the same people.
If I were Estelle, I’d tell BB I’m leaving the house, this would be good for ratings as she is never going to win and people will always remember her for walking out!

Stacey’s other top line of the radio show came about when responding to Ben’s comment that Angie was a little bit like our Kylie…
“Yeah but she’s more of a Kylie ‘when she still shopped at Supre’ Minogue.
She’ll get a radio gig for sure.

Stacey is pure entertainment, bitchy? more sarcastic and totes hilarious – she is my pick to win and deservedly so…Sam sucks, though not in the same way as Ava…who clearly can’t wait to…

12 Stacey { 09.19.12 at 9:35 pm }

If it weren’t for Micheal and Stacey there would not be much comic relief in the house. Stacey would actually be perfect for radio or presenting. Something where she can show her personality. She’s a walking catch-phrase!

Trouble is when BB is running the romantic theme of love and lust and lost love and so on ad nauseum, it has to force feed the narrative to keep the show on the road. So in goes Ava to stir up the angst and the love juices (and conveniently seems to swing both ways), closely followed by Sam who conveniently seems strangely struck by the awkward and unloved Estelle. Cue a new and unlikely romance, and hence the narrative continues. Why am I feeling this is all a slick trick BB? Sheesh BB, you’re not really even that subtle about it. Sam’s response in the Diary Room about why he liked Estelle had that oh so The Shire script about it.

Ah well, if nothing else, I am enjoying deconstructing BB’s confected reality, and looking for the the splash each time it jumps the shark.

Agree with with everything you said suzoekue! You hit the nail on the head! However, I still do not get the infatuation with Estelle. She just has too many personalities to keep track of. BB is following the tried and true method instead of what they advertised this year.

15 Diogenes { 09.20.12 at 7:08 am }

Allthough it was family friendly I felt “dirty” watching bits of last night’s ep.

New stud bull in the paddock, all the heifers racing to be serviced and the angst of who is going to be chosen first.

I am still not sure who Sheik Hilaly’s “rotten meat” is. Sam (picked to get the girls salivating) or the girls (metaphorically presented to Sam on a platter ).

16 Suziekue { 09.20.12 at 9:26 am }

Stacey, I think Sam’s attraction to Estelle is scripted. Her multiple personalities in the house are TV gold. BB would be getting nervous that she might be evicted next Sunday. So in goes Sam to hook up with her, creating a new love interest that might influence voters to keep her in the house.

And well said Diogenes, it does feel ‘dirty’ and not in a good ‘dirty’ sense either. But i’m thinking that the blokey BB producers are so locked into their own time warped notions of gender relations, that if we talked about the objectification of women, they would not have a clue what we were talking about.

17 Mahlia { 09.20.12 at 11:52 am }

The theme of love that BB is pushing is turning me off the show.
It’s got to happen naturally BB! It’s better TV that way.
