A&E Channel Punching Above Its Weight In Ratings
A Foxtel channel is busting the myth that reality TV is for females only. Since new reality channel, A&E, in February this year it has been very much been a staple on the top 20 subscriptions show rating charts.
I am not a slave to the daily ratings that come through as other sites do it so much better. I prefer to focus on content of reality shows, but almost daily shows on A&E are up there and for a new channel that is focusing on reality TV for the male viewer this is pretty impressive.
Just today in the ratings they were number two and number four, with Pawn Star attracting 65,000 viewers and Storage Wars, 59,000.
They are not showing hot tottie of either sex to draw the viewers in, so don’t expect to turn on the channel and see Lingerie Football or men showing off their six packs. In fact your more likely to see mega guts with mega trucks.
In just over six months A&E has quickly risen to become the number one factual channel and now the fastest growing ‘non Sport’ Launch Channel ever.
The channel is reaching 1.1 million Australian viewers weekly, with 74% of their viewers between 18-54 with the average age of their viewer being 39. Fifty seven percent of these viewers are male.
For a pay tv channel kicking so many goals regarding viewers it looks like they are going to commission some local productions.
Jim Buchan, Head of Factual channels at Foxtel said “Our viewers should stay tuned in 2013 for the launch of a very Aussie rendition of one of A&E’s most popular series franchises.”
Unfortunately they would not tell me which one but I am hoping Storage Wars. Which show would you like to see an Australian version of?
