The X Factor Australia – Mel B Does Gangnam Style And Another One Gone

When Paul Keating described Australia as a part of Asia in the ’90’s it is unclear whether he envisaged the culmination of this vision would be a Korean dude on stage doing some weird dance moves.

To be fair Psy has gone beyond Asia and is international, though in Australia I suspect he will be the ultimate one hit wonder. He was  a lot of fun.

Mel B also managed to do a few gangnam moves in her mega high stilettos with nary a wobble.

Bottom two tonight was Angel Tupai and Samantha-Jade and both girls were upset by it. After their “sing for their lives” performance Guy Sebastian gushed that their performances were world class. Quite frankly they were a tad dull, the girls can sing but are finding it hard to connect with an audience.

After Guy and Nat B voted for their own singers, Ronan voted for Angel to go and Mel Be voted for Samantha Jade to leave it was deadlock. It was then over to the viewer vote and Angel was eliminated.

Next Monday they will be singing the biggest hits right now. This will be a relief to the young ‘uns as a lot of them have not heard of the majority of the songs they have been singing.

I SO agree with you about those two not connecting with the audience. I don’t doubt their voices but I get up and do something else whenever they’re singing, they don’t keep me watching. It is XFactor, not just a singing competition. None of these comps are on singing alone.

Mrs Boner called me to the tele to see the Psy guy performance.

I rated it as reasonable fun, electro-pop confection ramped up by the incongruity of performer’s deadpan persona doing manically funny dance moves*.

The problem being I thereby got my arse stuck on the couch to see some of the other musical shite on offer. *shudders*

* (But brought down by the lack of hot Korean chicks in the dance ensemble).

Psy made for an entertaining change from X factor’s usual standard…..Gag-nam style.

Good on Mel for doing it. I thought she was going to stand her ground about the contract after the previous night’s reaction. She certainly is easy to get a rise out of.

I don’t think they’ve even managed to summon up a ‘D Factor’ performer this year. Nathanial may be a possibility but who can tell. Between the banshees wailing and the digital enhancements, I haven’t manged to actually hear anyone’s voice yet.

Psy = OHW
