The Amazing Race Australia Looks Like It Is In Hiatus

Channel Seven are yet to deny they are not going ahead with third season of The Amazing Race Australia next year, however it starting to not look good for the show that has been nominated for an International Emmy award.

On Tuesday SEVEN announced their line up for 2013 and The Amazing Race Australia was not on the list. They did announce three new reality shows Celebrity Splash, The Mole and House Rules.

Even thought a casting call for applications was held it looks like the show is dumped. It did not rate as well this year as they would have hoped not helped by scheduling. However it was a damn fine reality show and considering SEVEN are continuing with shows like Dancing With The Stars and Australia’s Got Talent which are stale rather then going with a show that really is better than the US version of the show.

It must come down to cost as both Dancing With The Stars and Australia’s Got Talent are filmed in a studio whereas The Amazing Race Australia is out on a continually moving location, and in these tough times of television this is the priority.

It is extremely disappointing.

Wot should I watch tonight?
Amazing Race or Celebrity Splash?
*scratchs head, looks in fridge*
Damn.
No beer.
How the fuck can I self-lobotomize meself with at least a dozen beers so I can happily sit back and watch a bunch of D-list celebs try their hand at high-diving?
Oh well. At least Hillbilly Handfishing’s on pay tv. That’ll fire up me neurons.

Very disappointing was one of my fave reality shows :(

it’s gonna be cheaper for Ch7 to produce Dlist Celebrity Splash than TAR so it’s a no brainer really in the current TV production world.

also RR, i wouldn’t say that the Australian version of TAR is better, just a little more relatable sometimes, but most of the time cringeworthy but still entertaining.

Another cheap RTV possiblity could be ‘Polly Takes a Dive’ – where politicians try to walk on grass in high heels. I’d love to see Tony give it a go, in high heals and his licorice allsort dick stickers.

[…] There is also a rumour circulating that Seven may still be pulling the pin on Australia’s Got Talent. Even though it was mention in the SEVEN’s 2013 schedule it still may not be going ahead. The Amazing Race Australia was not mentioned so it looks like it had been axed. […]

Oh wow! So it looks like we were very lucky to be part of the later of only two seasons then! Sad if they don’t make another series after ours as it really was so much fun & amazing to do… Hopefully we can secure that Emmy Award though!! :)

Sad news if it’s true. I loved the series, more fun than the original in the last seasons.
The Mole, hasn’t that already been done in Australia, with a certain presenter? Why revive it? The Netherlands are the only country still showing it, the Belgians ditched it after 2 seasons.
Having seen the original Celebrity Splash on Dutch TV it amazes me it’s such a huge succes. There’s not much happening and the little action there is takes only seconds. Less than a minute for the whole show.
