Eight Memorable On Air Reality TV Marriage Proposals

On Wednesday night during the Big Brother finale, winner Benjamin Norris proposed to his boyfriend Ben, not only was it the first gay Big Brother winner, it could be the first same sex proposal on a reality show on TV here in Australia and overseas.

However it is not the first marriage proposal on a reality TV show. Marriage proposals on TV are always a little cheesy but they always are enjoyable to watch.

Here are a eight other memorable marriage proposal moments:

1. Josh Proposing To Jenner On The Block:

On auction day on The Block in 2011, Josh got down on his bended knee Tiffany box in hand and proposed to his long time partner Jenna. The Block favourites did not end up winning at the auction but they did win each other.  They are now married. Go to their cast mate Katrina’s blog to see some great pictures of the wedding.

2. Trevor Proposing to His Girlfriend At The Big Brother Finale on Series Four.

After winning $1 million on the show he dropped to one knee and proposed to his girlfriend Breea she of course accepted. They went on to marry and have two children.

3. Boston Rob proposing to Amber at Survivor finale.

Amber and Boston Rob hooked up in an Survivor All Stars series and both made it to the final two. At the finale before the winner was announced he proposed to Amber and she accepted. Lucky for him as she was the one who won the $1 million. They went onto to more reality shows, including their wedding, and have children together. Boston Rob finally won on Survivor after his fourth time on the show. It should be noted because of this hook up Survivor contestants are quick to bust up any potential relationships at camp.

4. Ben Flajnik was turned down by The Bachelorette’s Ashley.

A truly cringeworthy TV moment. Ben Flajnik who was a contestant on  The Bachelorette proposed to Ashley and she turned him down. Happily this public humiliation did not stop him from becoming The Bachelor. Go to 3.00 minute mark to see the proposal.

5. The Bachelor Ben Flajnik proposes to Courtney

Ben Flajnik had better luck when he was The Bachelor he proposed to his girl Courtney and she accepted, however it was no surprise to fans of the show that they ended up breaking up and yes she had to return her $80,000 ring. (Source: Huffington Post)

6. David Murphy Proposes To Former Survivor contestant Carolina.

This proposal could only be classified as awkward. Survivor contestant David proposed to his girlfriend, Carolina who had been on a previous season of the show and she did not look happy about it and said she had been “blindsided” in the end she said yes. Examiner outlines how the proposal went down. I can’t seem to find out if they ended up walking down the aisle.

7. American Idol’s Ace Young proposes to Diana De Garmo on American Idol

On the 2012 American Idol season finale series four American Idol contestant Ace Young proposed to season three contestant Diana De Garmo. This was the first American Idol engagement. What was interesting was apparently some of the audience had no idea who they were.

8. Kris Humphries Proposes To Kim Kardashian

In what was probably not such a spontaneous proposal was Kris Humphries proposal to Kim Kardashian on Keeping Up With The Kardashians. However the news went international, as did the television event that was their wedding. However the wedding had barely aired and the marriage was over. He now maintains the engagement was planned.

Can you think of any other on air marriage proposals?

I really like how Ben proposed to Ben, by getting down on one knee.. and that was it. He then remembered to ask the question! I thought it was sweet.

Ah, you bring back memories…

Hey Raver, can you follow this up with the 8 most indecent proposals on reality TV.
Oh hang on. Wedding proposal #8 probably fits that category.

“It should be noted because of this hook up Survivor contestants are quick to bust up any potential relationships at camp.”

And yet some are happy to sacrifice big $$ to do it.

Great review RR.

Hopefully you’ll all do better than me.
I can only come up with indecent behaviour as opposed to indecent proposals* –

* I’m presuming Manu didn’t ask first.

6 Nathan 1 { 11.09.12 at 1:03 pm }

i found it incredibly cheesy… sorry.

7 Culinary Boner { 11.09.12 at 2:24 pm }

Seems I’m still playing with…oops, I mean by myself.
Dum di dum di dum…
Here’s another idea for a list, Raver.
What about the top 8 reality TV divorces?
Again, wedding proposal #8 above makes this list as well.
I’ll get the ball rolling:

8 Golo i Wesolo { 11.09.12 at 2:32 pm }

I thought Benjamin was looking for his “boyfriend” to ride his bologna pony down the dirt road when he got down on one knee. Guess not.

Wouldn’t be surprised if he said yes for the money.

Re #6 – “In 2012, Eastwood called the engagement with Murphy off, due to the latter’s alleged cheating incident with Survivor: One World contestant, Alicia Rosa”

Thanks for that update Cheryl.
Thinking deeply about this I believe this link explains the reason why more succinctly than any words could:

11 Anonymous { 11.10.12 at 2:23 pm }

The Bachelorette season where Ryan proposed to Trina. Then had televised wedding. He was gorgeous!

CB I think it just says that RC from the current season will be the next Survivor Murphy sets his sights on, he seems to have a “type” and she more than overfills that cup.

14 bella vita { 11.10.12 at 5:19 pm }

and who could forget Chez and Brenton from The Block, when she looked at the box brand first before she opened it up….so very classy…lol
