Reality Ravings Wants Your Feedback

I have decided to give Reality Ravings a bit of a razzle as it has been a few years since the layout has been refreshed.

I would appreciate if you could tell me what you do and don’t like about the layout. What things irritate you about the design, and if you find it easy to navigate.

I would also like to know if you there are any features you would like added or taken away.

Obviously I have a few ideas of my own but would really like you the reader likes and dislikes. You can also post links in the comment box of sites you like the look of and/or find easy to use.

Thanks for your input and don’t expect the changes to occur instantly.

Hi RR, I love your site, think it is fantastic!
One thing I often think I would like on it though is a little like button we could click.
If someone makes a comment we agree with, we could hit the like button. So many times I would just like to say a simple YES, I agree. Some sites have the don’t like as well, but you don’t have to have that one.
Anyway it is just a thought. Other than that, how can you improve on perfection!
Keep up the good work.

Gabby – That is a good idea I will see what I can do. I know Mama Mia has that and it is handy.

Great site.

The one thing I would change is the amount of text from each individual entry that is displayed on the main page. A single entry can take up almost the entire main page (e.g. some of the Survivor recaps). It would be great if just the first paragraph or two (or a short “summary”) of each individual entry were viewed on the main page and then you simply clicked the story if you wanted to read the entire thing.

A mini TV guide that is solely devoted to reality TV shows covered by this blog at the top of the right or left column would also be great to act as a “reminder” for what reality TV is on each evening.

I agree that with long recaps a tab that could get you to the end of the latest blog would be helpful.
Maybe increase your recent comments list from 4 to 6 or 8.
And a LOL button so we could respond to funny remarks.
But actually this is such an easy blog/forum. I took someone’s advice and put it on my home page … easy.

Hey Gabby I think the “like” button is a good idea! I’m with you, lots of times I like a comment but then feel I need to make a comment just so the person who commented knows I agreed with them! Which takes lots of time like this entry just did!!

Other than that RR, love your site, read it multiple times a day, and my husbands favourite words to me are, “what you lookin at? Ravings again?” ……

Izobel2, I would have just liked you!!
Daisy I don’t understand what you mean with “Maybe increase your recent comments list from 4 to 6 or 8.” Could you please explain to this thick person?

7 Gabby { 01.08.13 at 1:37 pm }

RR, that’s where I got the idea from MamaMia, I was going to mention the site, but thought I had better not, not sure why, silly really. But yes, I think it operates really well on that site and I have gone to hit it a thousand times on this site and then realised it aint there! I suppose too the commenter’s get some kind of feedback as to whether other readers agree with them or not. Actually speaking of not, do you think you would do a not like button?

I think its pretty good as it is RR.
Maybe for the newer people you could explain occasionally how to find things such as looking through the archives if they want to look at comments on Masterchef perhaps from previous seasons? It does take time to look through older comments.
Explain maybe that there is a”recent posts” section on left of screen as well as a “recent comments” on the right of screen?
Anyway its up to you but I can figure it out and like it as it is although maybe anonymous comments shouldn’t be accepted as well.

I think that a great addition to the website would be the ability to search for comments from a particular blog member and have the results displayed chronologically, newest first.

10 Daisy { 01.08.13 at 9:08 pm }

Gabby, at the moment on the right there are 4 “recent comments”. That’s OK when I am not away and can check the blog often but when I have been busy for awhile I want to see what I have missed and so if that was increased to between 6-8 comments I would have more chance to catch up. I check by recent comments more than by category. Tell me if I still haven’t explained myself properly.

11 Gabby { 01.08.13 at 9:14 pm }

I sort of get it, sort of. Do you just check the recent comments instead of going to the individual pages. I never really noticed the recent comments until today! I just wait until I get emails saying there are new comments. I thought that’s what everyone did. Isn’t it?

12 Daisy { 01.08.13 at 9:15 pm }

I don’t know if I would like the thumbs down idea. I think when people disagree I would prefer to hear there differing viewpoint. But I often DO laugh out loud when some peeople make a comment a I feel I have to let them know how much their humour is being enjoyed. That’s why I’d like a cheer button, or a laugh button but not a “boo” button. BDD must get sick of us responding to his jokes by saying he is funny.
But really RR are you pretty much getting it right. I have viewed a few forums and blogs and none were as accessible, user friendly or as friendly. I think you are also lucky that you have a great fan base.

13 Daisy { 01.08.13 at 9:35 pm }

Yes Gabby that’s what I do. I don’t get the emails because I don’t tick the notify box except occasionally by accident. If I have been busy or away I also check previous entries and I check my favourite categories.

14 A.P { 01.08.13 at 10:26 pm }

I do that too Gabby, I check the recent comments first on the right and then look at recent posts on the left of screen situated underneath the latest polls that RR runs.
If there’s been nothing about Survivor for instance, then I just scroll down the categories column on the left to find it , click on it and all comments relating to Survivor will come up. You can click on any show you like under categories and all comments come up.
It took me a while to work it out.
Scroll down to the end of categories and you will see Archives listed by years, its interesting to look when you have time.

15 Gabby { 01.08.13 at 11:16 pm }

Well AP and Daisy you have shown me a whole new way of navigating myself around this site. I have never, ever used either of those two columns before, as I said I just rely on the emails I am sent. That is probably why I am always late with my replies. You live and learn.

16 Daisy { 01.13.13 at 12:25 am }

RR here’s a thought….you know how sometimes some of get onto a topic and then off topic and want ot keep going until someone tells us off because it’s suppposed to be about whatever show and we’ve gotten on to washing powder and socks? What about putttingsomething like a blaah blaaah category or a chat room for us to move to so we don’t annoy the people that want to stay on topic. And maybe you could include the B and B because some of think that’s real too.
Just ignore these ideas if they’re dumb.

17 Gabby { 01.13.13 at 10:24 am }

RR if you had a like button I would like what Daisy @ 16 said. Good idea but I can understand if you want to keep your site just for your Reality shows. Cheers.

18 Izobel2 { 01.13.13 at 11:01 am }

I like your comment too Daisy & Gabby!
But I’d probably have to get a divorce as I spend so much time on here already if I had a spot to chat more I’d never talk to my own family!!
Woo hoo not long til all the cool shows start…. !!!

19 Gabby { 01.13.13 at 11:46 am }

Haha Izobel2, know where you are coming from.

20 Daisy { 01.16.13 at 9:50 pm }

Yay Emma! Just saw you on ACA. Well done. You looked good and it was like seeing a friend on telly.

21 A.P { 01.17.13 at 12:01 am }

She’s probably in USA by now lucky thing!

22 sarnias { 07.11.13 at 11:49 pm }

Have been following you for a couple of years now, and I really dig it. If possible, but if not, all good, a like icon thingy for people’s comments would be cool. Otherwise, keep up the great work – love your stuff.
