My Kitchen Rules – Dan and Steph Put Dude Food On Steroids
Pete Evans must have needed a Xanax before he tasted the Queensland teams meal tonight. In fact he looked like he was hyperventilating over the menu and not in a good way. He was about to get his yearly dose of fat and sugar all in the one meal.
For entree it was confit of Salmon with Pea Salad, Cherry Cola Pork with a Cherry Sauce, and Brownies with Cookie Dough Ice cream, Salted Caramel and Popcorn.
It was like Dan and Steph took the dude food trend and put it on steroids.
In fact even the Bondi boys were looking a bit nervous about putting it in their mouth particularly the pork as cola has artificial substances in it.
Which then reminded me of this clip by the Bondi Hipsters called The Life Organic.
First up was the confit of salmon and the judges liked it but Pete thought the salad was under seasoned. The “salad” consisted of three ingredients which were peas, preserved lemons and mascarpone.
However Manu thought it was great.
It was not surprising the Busselton Beauties did not, with Candice thinking it tasted fishy. Funny that. And of course Lisa thought she could have made it.
Is Candice trying to come across as quirky with her metaphysical interests. Tonight she busted out her numerology to tell the other contestants the age of their souls. Don’t expect to see her on the next series of The One.
The main was a fat fiesta. There was the fatty bacon, the deep fried pork fat added to the mash that was a dish that needed a crisp salad to accompany it.
Manu made everyone keel over in shock when he said the dish would have done better without the sauce.
Pete said the bacon was tough, It would be interesting to know if Pete took more than one mouthful of this dish. Or of the dessert.
The festival of fat continued with dessert, was Steph making brownies for 50 people as she bought four kilos of flour, one and half kilos of chocolate and dozens of eggs.
The dessert appeared to be based on how many elements that were culinary fashionable could fit on a plate. First there was the cookie dough icecream, then popcorn, and salted caramel. The ice cream did not set which meant the cookie dough could not be folded in so they improvised with a slice of the dough on the side.
The judges did not like it Pete said “Did you taste it together. It is just sweet, sweet, sweet”. However Ali from Tassie did and I suspect a lot of people with a sweet tooth would have loved it.
Candice sensing an opportunity to put the boot in said she did not think popcorn should be on the plate.
The amateur teams liked it better than the judges with Tasmania giving the meal a seven. South Australiana and NSW gave a six, Victoria gave an apologetic five and the Western Australian pair gave a four.
The only joy in the scores from the judges came from the entree.
Pete Evans savaged them. He gave the entree a nine for entree, then a two for main and a three for dessert.
Manu gave a nine for entree, a three for main, and dessert a four.
This gave them 58 points, which was one point ahead of Lisa and Candice. This pair must have been kicking themselves for not scoring them a two or lower as then they would have been still in the game.
