The Logies Nominations Are Out – But There Should Be More Reality Show Categories

Congratulations to all the reality shows and stars who received a Logie nomination this morning, however considering the genre is one of the highest rating on TV for the last few years and has created the most media chatter it would be good see it given a few more recognition by receiving a few more categories.

Currently the categories it receives are Most Popular Reality Program, Most Popular Light Entertainment Program, Most Popular Lifestyle Program, and Most Outstanding Light Entertainment Program. Also  there is Most Popular Factual Program, and Most Outstanding Factual Program.

The most popular categories are voted by the public, the most Outstanding are voted by peers. They need to add a Most Outstanding Reality Program into the roster. As well as a Most Popular Reality TV Host, currently they can only be nominated in the Best New Talent Categories which is for everyone on TV or Most Popular Presenter.

Another category I would like to see is Most Popular Reality TV Contestant, this would acknowledge the integral part of these shows are the contestants, as they are the ones the audience love to talk about.

In fact maybe it is time for there to be a stand alone reality awards show.

This years nominations are:

MOST POPULAR REALITY PROGRAM
Beauty and the Geek Australia (Channel Seven)
Big Brother (Nine Network)
MasterChef Australia (Network Ten)
My Kitchen Rules (Channel Seven)

Hamish & Andy’s Euro Gap Year (Nine Network)

I’d like to add my own couple of categories, “Best Reality TV Blog” and “Best commentators on Reality TV Blogs” with RR and everyone who posts here. Don’t often comment but I read this blog every single day (sometimes several times a day to catch up on new comments) and it never fails to make me laugh or think of things in ways I wouldn’t have before.
RR, you and the regulars on here are brilliant – thanks to you all for your posts and contributions. Looking forward to MKR tonight

Onya Blair.

Now, the Ch9 coverage of the London Olympics was appalling.

Chrissie Swan. Fail. By and large, these awards are now a joke.

Puberty Blues was great. Miss Fisher’s Murder Mysteries ditto. Asher Keddie.

The Logies themselves are just unwatchable.

BDD – watch this, brilliant (sent it to RR also) –

Not sure if you’re a fan of their work or not

Is there any doubt that MKR is going to take the most popular title? (or is it based on last year… it’ll probably still win)

How is Robert Irwin a popular new talent? Beuller? Beuller? Anyone? Anyone? His best public appearance was as crocodile bait many years ago, I don’t think he’s topped that since.

I’m hoping Annabel Crabb takes something home, she’s brilliant. I think the Hamster Wheel will unfortunately get trounced by the Voice…

It’s interesting that the News doesn’t cop a mention in the most outstanding factual program category…

Hi Dr T it is hilarious I am just trying to work out if I can embed it.

5 brain dead dave { 03.11.13 at 1:12 pm }

Thanks Dr T. I’m a fan from way back.

Blair – thank you the commenters are fab and thanks for the nice words about Reality Ravings

7 Stacey { 03.11.13 at 3:42 pm }

Fingers crossed for Gruen Planet. Doesn’t get anywhere near enough hype as it should.

8 Littlepetal { 03.11.13 at 4:05 pm }

Finally there is something hubby is a fan of. We all love Clarke and Dawe.

Yes, agree that Amazing Race Australia definitely should have been on the list. As well as winning the International Emmy it also just took out an AACTA award (the new AFI’s). The logistics of that show must be incredible! But with so many reality shows on air lately can sort of understand it’s a hotly contested category. They almost need a cooking how category in itself…

The Logies are an absolute joke. All it is is a a bunch of actors patting themselves on the back for reaching the pinnacle of the “world famous” Australian TV industry, LOL.

I still remember when Channel 7 won a Logie for their awful and biased coverage of the Beijing Olympics! Whoever thought of that brilliant idea must have either been intoxicated or brain damaged.

Apart from some select ABC shows, Australian TV is in the gutter and everybody knows it.

11 Goło i Wesolo { 03.11.13 at 6:00 pm }

Oh, and a win for Big Brother or My Kitchen Rules will cement the collective acceptance of bullying or racism (respectively) once and for all in Australian society.

12 Daisy { 03.11.13 at 7:22 pm }

RR I like your suggestions, and valid reason for the RTV logie categories.

13 brain dead dave { 03.11.13 at 7:52 pm }

Trolls #10 and #11 ~You don’t speak for “everybody”, Trollo, just yourself and your mindless bullying, homophobia,racism and trolling here. Loser.

14 Carole { 03.11.13 at 8:04 pm }

The Voice & X Factor are reality shows and should be in that category. I don’t know why The Amazing Race Au or Celebrity Apprentice weren’t nominated, but Beauty & The Geek was. WTF

Overall I’m quite happy with the nominations. I just hope that bloody MKR doesn’t win.

It’s ironic that ch 7 always dominates in the ratings, yet ch 10 never does, but it has more nominations than 7.

15 Helen { 03.25.13 at 3:33 pm }

I am with Brain Dead Dave, the logies are unwatchable and as for Chrissie Swan – can’t believe her name was even mentioned above. I’ve never sat and watched the logies and now I never will.

16 Daisy { 03.25.13 at 3:43 pm }

I don’t get Chrissie Swan being on TV. She’s not funny, interesting or easy on the eyes. Zzzzzzzzz.
