My Kitchen Rules – A Tight Elimination Contest
The good news was there was some tension in this elimination episode with the viewer having no clue who was going to be sent home, but the downside was the cooking was still pretty average, with both teams only plating up one decent course out of the three.
In fact Liz Egan was wondering whether she was being paid enough to eat it.
It was Ali and Samuel versus Melina and Angela in the three course meal elimination challenge.
Samuel was being lead chef whilst Ali was being a sous, and he was taking charge of the first two courses with Ali doing dessert. The work load was a tad uneven with Josh and Andi noting it looked like she was on a Sunday drive.
Their entree was Polenta with Flathead and Salsa. There were problems with the polenta which at first he was not admitting. However Ali kept on hinting that it was grainy which he did not pick up on until she told him directly to make another batch.
Melina and Angela’s entree was Barramundi with Salsa Verde however in the hour and half of prep time until service of the first course they were doing anything but cooking the entree. In the end they had to rush the cooking of the barramundi with Angela freaking out and not realising she did not have the oven up high enough.
She was under the pump saying she felt she was in the third phase of childbirth and she just had to get through it! They have also picked up the habit of calling each other babe.
The other “babes” Sophia and Ashlee were on their best behaviour, in fact Sophia was acting all coy sitting opposite the Bondi boys.
Both entrees looked pretty ordinary and this was confirmed by the judges, with Pete Evans saying about the Tassie teams dish “the Polenta and salsa were a real let down”. Which meant two of the three elements in the dish were duds.
The Italian Housewives fared milder criticism with Colin Fassnidge saying they should have made the proscuitto crisper and Guy Grossi thought the salsa verde was the highlight of the dish. Pete thought his fish was over cooked.
Angela and Melina had to switch the ragu off that was in the pressure cooker as it smelt like it was burning. Even though they got good reviews for their mains no one commented on whether the ox tail was still tough.
However it was much better than Sam and Ali’s Masterstock Lamb with Brussel Sprouts. They did not get it into the pressure cooker until 45 minutes before they were required to serve and it was not enough time. They served up grey meat. Their steam buns did not rise either and they had to ditch them.
Colin wondered if the lamb was joke and Liz thought it was ruined meat.
Colin also was being dramatic and said his time was valuable and he did not have the time to eat this. Suck it up sunshine that is why you are paid the big bucks.
Maybe at this point of the episode he was wondering why he had quit Masterchef.
Jake said the Tassie team really needed to bedazzle with their dessert and they did. Ali’s Pistachio and Almond Tart with Orange Icecream looked delicious. Guy thought the ice cream was sensational and Karen Martini was just relieved to see a great dish from team one. Colin would have liked a smaller portion but he ate it all.
The Italian girls Lemon Custard with Biscotti and Amaretto Granita as thought to be good but not great, Karen liked the lemon in the custard, however Colin could not taste it. Guy would have liked more amaretto in the granita.
Melina and Angela scored a low 34 out of 60, with Guy, Liz, Pete and Manu giving them six with Colin and Karen dishing out a five.
However Ali and Samuel could not even get a pass mark and received only 26 out of 60. Colin giving a lowly three whilst Liz, Pete and Manu gave them a five with Guy and Karen scoring them a 4. They were eliminated. The second Tassie team to go as well as the second team who topped the scoreboard in the instant restaurant round.
Samuel has revealed to Adelaide Now that he would like to work in media, just like the other Tassie team of Matt and Mick. At this rate most of Tassie radio will be filled with MKR contestants.
