My Kitchen Rules – A Tight Elimination Contest

The good news was there was some tension in this elimination episode with the viewer having no clue who was going to be sent home, but the downside was the cooking was still pretty average, with both teams only plating up one decent course out of the three.

In fact Liz Egan was wondering whether she was being paid enough to eat it.

It was Ali and Samuel versus Melina and Angela in the three course meal elimination challenge.

Samuel was being lead chef whilst Ali was being a sous, and he was taking charge of the first two courses with Ali doing dessert. The work load was a tad uneven with Josh and Andi noting it looked like she was on a Sunday drive.

Their entree was Polenta with Flathead and Salsa. There were problems with the polenta which at first he was not admitting. However Ali kept on hinting that it was grainy which he did not pick up on until she told him directly to make another batch.

Melina and Angela’s entree was Barramundi with Salsa Verde however in the hour and half of prep time until service of the first course they were doing anything but cooking the entree. In the end they had to rush the cooking of the barramundi with Angela freaking out and not realising she did not have the oven up high enough.

She was under the pump saying she felt she was in the third phase of childbirth and she just had to get through it! They have also picked up the habit of calling each other babe.

The other “babes” Sophia and Ashlee were on their best behaviour, in fact Sophia was acting all coy sitting opposite the Bondi boys.

Both entrees looked pretty ordinary and this was confirmed by the judges, with Pete Evans saying about the Tassie teams dish “the Polenta and salsa were a real let down”. Which meant two of the three elements in the dish were duds.

The Italian Housewives fared milder criticism with Colin Fassnidge saying they should have made the proscuitto crisper and Guy Grossi thought the salsa verde was the highlight of the dish. Pete thought his fish was over cooked.

Angela and Melina had to switch the ragu off that was in the pressure cooker as it smelt like it was burning. Even though they got good reviews for their mains no one commented on whether the ox tail was still tough.

However it was much better than Sam and Ali’s Masterstock Lamb with Brussel Sprouts. They did not get it into the pressure cooker until 45 minutes before they were required to serve and it was not enough time. They served up grey meat. Their steam buns did not rise either and they had to ditch them.

Colin wondered if the lamb was joke and Liz thought it was ruined meat.

Colin also was being dramatic and said his time was valuable and he did not have the time to eat this. Suck it up sunshine that is why you are paid the big bucks.

Maybe at this point of the episode he was wondering why he had quit Masterchef.

Jake said the Tassie team really needed to bedazzle with their dessert and they did. Ali’s Pistachio and Almond Tart with Orange Icecream looked delicious.  Guy thought the ice cream was sensational and Karen Martini was just relieved to see a great dish from team one.  Colin would have liked a smaller portion but he ate it all.

The Italian girls Lemon Custard with Biscotti and Amaretto Granita as thought to be good but not great, Karen liked the lemon in the custard, however Colin could not taste it. Guy would have liked more amaretto in the granita.

Melina and Angela scored a low 34 out of 60, with Guy, Liz, Pete and Manu giving them six with Colin and Karen dishing out a five.

However Ali and Samuel could not even get a pass mark and received only 26 out of 60. Colin giving a lowly three whilst Liz, Pete and Manu gave them a five with Guy and Karen scoring them a 4.  They were eliminated. The second Tassie team to go as well as the second team who topped the scoreboard in the instant restaurant round.

Samuel has revealed to Adelaide Now that he would like to work in media, just like the other Tassie team of Matt and Mick. At this rate most of Tassie radio will be filled with MKR contestants.

Little Petal I find her hard to look at after her behaviour. I don’t care if it’s real or acted. It has just put me off.

Can’t blame you, Daisy. Beauty comes from within.

I’ve just looked in the Mar 18 edition of Who and couldn’t find any MKR gossip material at all,sorry.

Rhatt’s total hasn’t budged overnight. Readers must have seen that Jowl$y only had one mouthful of Rhatt’s swordfish.

Dave, I cheered for Rhett but voted for Rhys. Because he did a good job of being the ‘underdog’ Aussie’s love an underdog.
And I noticed during the comp, he pulled the old “I didn’t study for this test” trick. Sneaky, sneaky.
I like stern Sarah more than Golden girl Sarah.

On Who Magazine:

MY KITCHEN RULES EXCLUSIVE: ASHLEE’S HUSBAND HITS BACK
She’s one half of the spicy MKR team we love to hate, but off-camera there’s a softer side to Ashlee Pham, according to her husband, Matthew Laird. The man she calls “my rock” tells WHO his wife’s feisty jibes and fierce determination are typical of her, “but Ashlee’s someone who’s deeper than the surface, and she’s actually a really sweet person.”

9 Daisy { 03.16.13 at 12:40 pm }

Oh, so she DOES talk like that then.

More damage control from the producers of MKR…

Her rock??? Would have thought that she wears the pants in the family & controls him like Lisa does Toy boy

12 layla { 03.16.13 at 1:35 pm }

@64…. WOW. No surprise there that you’re a A&S fan with an attitude like that.

Regarding the WHO article, I knew Ashlee was married as it states in her bio on the MKR website. She doesn’t bother me as much as Sophia. Sophia is the evil one and Ashlee is more like her little puppet.

13 layla { 03.16.13 at 1:40 pm }

Also, I haven’t seen the ad you guys are talking about yet (I’m intrigued now), but I remember reading in TV Week a few weeks ago that there was a “shock illness” bought on during filming. I can’t recall if it meant a team was leaving but this could possibly be in relation to it? We know Andi discovered she was pregnant during filming but surely you wouldn’t leave the competition because of it.

14 brain dead dave { 03.16.13 at 1:52 pm }

Kerrie faints in the Outback somewhere during a challenge. It looks a lot like her on the stretcher.

The contestants are way out of their depth on that Melbourne Cup menu.

15 Littlepetal { 03.16.13 at 2:00 pm }

The ad I saw while watching Better Homes and Gardens said the latest scandal on MKR and will be shown on Wed Sunrise. So it will be something that happened after the Tues episode which is the Rapid cook off.

Sorry guys, I think Ashlee and Sophia will hang around for a bit longer.

16 layla { 03.16.13 at 2:06 pm }

I looked on Youtube and found the long promo ad many of us had been talking about. In a way it’s good to see whats coming up in the competition but damn do they give it away with who stays in the competition. They really should just stick to showing weekly previews. Kerrie fainting was the biggest giveaway and it looks like Luke and Scott are calling out to her so they’re safe for another week.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=p97erDh4_rA

And at the 20 sec mark…. Defo proof Mick and Matt are coming back. Sorry haters. 😉

17 Daisy { 03.16.13 at 2:08 pm }

Observant Anna@111 “His Rock” does imply she’s the backbone of the family and might keep his rocks in her pocket.

If Kerrie fainted I’m guessing there was no lamb at Coles that day.

18 Littlepetal { 03.16.13 at 2:20 pm }

The desert episode was filmed in Broome. No lamb will survive there. They should be serving camel meat.

19 brain dead dave { 03.16.13 at 2:21 pm }

“His Rock”….a millstone around his neck.

Been to Broome a couple of times. A friend’s daughter looks after those camels that take tourists along Cable Beach.

20 layla { 03.16.13 at 2:31 pm }

I read many Arabians serve whole stuffed camels at weddings during their banquet. Apparently its one of the most expensive foods you can have.

21 suziekue-on-hols { 03.16.13 at 3:06 pm }

Sorry I’m a bit late with my menu entry -jazzing round NZ is messing up my RR catchups :(

Entree: Twice cooked party pies
Mains: Fish fingers done 3 ways – deep fried, roasted and grilled served snuggling on a beach of rice-bubble sand for that extra crunch
Dessert: Deconstructed rainbow icecream – a puddle of culinary dream

One foody thing I have noticed in NZ is the much bigger range and variety of food, both fresh and processed, in NZ supermarkets. The Coles and Woolworths duolopy in Australia has a lot to answer for in reducing our food choices.

22 nanaliz { 03.16.13 at 3:17 pm }

Had camel in Darwin at a Chinese Rest. It was so tender and not as strong as I thought it would be. Yum!

23 Christina { 03.16.13 at 4:19 pm }

What is with the greasy burger in front of Ashlee and her hubby (from that cover picture)? And I didn’t think she liked bacon…

24 Daisy { 03.16.13 at 4:35 pm }

I think the burger might have been left there by Dan, Dan the sausage Man. (From the last promo shoot).

25 A.P { 03.16.13 at 4:38 pm }

So Layla@116, does this mean that A&S did quit as I didn’t see them in the clip and maybe they were replaced by the Tassie boys?

26 layla { 03.17.13 at 1:57 am }

A.P@125 It would be way too convient to have A&S leave so suddenly like that even though myself and 98% of the viewers would be doing cartwheels around our lounge rooms in excitement. I remember seeing a quick glimpse of them in one of those ads I linked where it looks like they’re having their food judged by Colin so I’m guessing they’re here to stay for a while. Some fans are saying they heard they won the series but where they’re getting this info from I don’t know and rigged or not there is NO way they’d allow those girls to win the series. No way. Cause I haven’t seen the ad I don’t know what to say. Does it seem like a team is leaving or something? Usually the previews they show end up being a storm in a teacup when you watch the actual episode. (ie. Stop ze clock, and Ali and Samuel’s “cheating” scandal.)

27 layla { 03.17.13 at 2:01 am }

Ugh I meant to say convenient before. My apologies for my grade 4 spelling. I am on my phone and the spell check/auto corrector is stuffed.

28 Anna { 03.17.13 at 8:09 am }

Collin did say in the mag interview that he made one team cry & someone told him that he needs therapy … My guess is that he made Jenna cry (not that hard to do as he cries all the time) & only Bratz would tell him that he needs therapy …,

No other team is as arrogant as those two

29 Littlepetal { 03.17.13 at 12:16 pm }

Anna- I think Colin said there were 2 teams that can’t accept his criticisms and one team finally come around to see where he was coming from. The team couldn’t see his point and he said they need therapy not him.

30 brain dead dave { 03.17.13 at 12:33 pm }

It’ll be Braces and Tatts for sure and they”ll hiss it to cowards camera.

31 Daisy { 03.17.13 at 12:42 pm }

When someone ‘walks’ before the end without a good, clear reason (like Brandon who knew he was doomed anyway) it does put some doubt of the authenticity of the presence int he comp.

Bach fans may recall a ‘vampire’ girl in one season. She wore fangs. She removed herself half way through saying she couldn’t take the place of someone who wanted to win more than she did. I saw her later in a small part on LA LAW or CSI. She was obviously an aspiring actress giving her carreer a boost with some Bach exposure.

It remains to be seen who goes or under what circumstances. This year we have MKR -revolving door, given the whole gate-crashers scenario. Is it really going to get worse?

32 brain dead dave { 03.17.13 at 12:54 pm }

I’m saying in #130 just that it’ll be B&T the ones telling Colin Fassridge that he needs therapy.

33 Anna { 03.17.13 at 6:42 pm }

Littlepetal thank you :-) I saw bits of the story .. Don’t buy mags :-)

BDD, I agree! Only one team is arrogant enough to oppose Collin. Personally I wouldn’t argue with him.

Lisa argued with Pete, she though her palate was good LOL

34 Littlepetal { 03.17.13 at 7:13 pm }

Anna-I don’t but those mags. I just read them at Coles. Only mags I buy are food magazines.

Hopefully Colin will put A&S in their places.

Read in the WHO mag-Ashlee would like to open a patisserie. LOL. We have yet to see some decent baking.

35 Littlepetal { 03.18.13 at 11:38 am }

Look out for Jake’s hair at the Melbourne Cup.

36 layla { 03.18.13 at 11:45 am }

In that ad I saw it looked like Ashlee was wiping her eyes so I have a feeling it wasn’t her. Maybe Sophia could have but she seems more the type to bitch behind the cameras. Angela and Melina are pretty confrontational so maybe it was one of them?

Ashlee wants to open a patisserie?? LOL. Well love you better start cooking something other than Asian cuisine then. Your chocolate berry tarts were a flop so I don’t think I’ll be buying any cakes or pastries from you anytime soon.
