My Kitchen Rules – Another Team Eliminated
So many questions and none of them relate to this elimination challenge. First of all what is the drama with Kerrie and Craig? Is it another hyped promo or will it be a cheating scandal of substance? So My Kitchen Rules is not on next week but finals week starts the following Easter Monday? Considering there are still eight teams left in the competition, plus Mick and Matt are meant to rejoin are there going to be mass eliminations until they get down to the final four? Do Sophia and Ashlee have a mega meltdown and does Joanna and Jenna bitchslap the NSW girls as well?
I am so used to drama that having to wait to find out how Jake and Elle’s dessert was tonight was a bit of a non-event. It was Jake and Elle versus Melina and Angela. Jake kindly described their menu tonight to the Vic Real Housewives as “good Italian cooking” – which said a lot of what he thought of theirs.
However Melina and Angela were stepping outside of their comfort zone “to show they can do something different to beautiful, authentic Italian cooking”. Clearly they had forgotten that it had been some time since they had actually done a good dish.
Jake and Elle’s menu was Vitello Tonnato for entree, John Dory with Fennel Salad for main and a Chocolate Molten Cake with Poached figs for dessert. They were keeping it simple which was a good strategy.
Melina and Angela made a Mediterranean Octopus and Potato Salad, for main a Roast Duck with wild rice and honey carrots, and dessert was Poach Pears stuffed with Fig and Walnut.
Why didn’t the girls put the potatoes on the boil straight away? They did not peel them, as in the end they were cutting it fine and both of them were unable to leave the ice cream or duck preparation.
The girls were not getting any statehood solidarity from Kerrie and Craig as they were barracking for Jake and Elle.
The preparation of their entree went smoothly except when it came to getting the tuna/caper mayonnaise out of the bottle they ended up having to smear it on the veal.
However none of the judges mentioned the presentation and Liz Egan thought Jake and Elle nailed it with their Vitello Tonnato.
The judges were quite positive about the Octopus Salad. Guy thought it was a classic combination. Karen thought the octopus was perfectly cooked.
When it came to the main, Melina and Angela had their duck cooked too early. They were concerned they would be serving it cold but put it under alfoil to rest.
For Jake and Elle their issue was the artichokes that were meant to go in the fennel salad in the end they ditched them.
Jake had cooked the John Dory perfectly, and Guy thought it was simple but well executed. Melina and Angela’s roast duck also got a positve reveiew and Liz liked the flavours on the duck skin. Karen Martini and Manu did not like the raw garlic in the rice.
Sophia and Ashlee thought the duck tasted like a Christmas ham.
The producers were trying to create tension with the dessert by not showing if Jake and Elle had over cooked their chocolate fondants. We already knew the pears were going to be undercooked as they were still skinning them with 30 minutes left on the clock.
Melina and Angela scored six from each of the judges except for Guy Grossi who gave a generous seven. This was a total of 37 out of 60. Last time they scored 34 on some very average cooking whereas this time the entree and main looked good.
However Jake and Elle scored eight and nines to get a grand total of 50 out of 60 and yes this meant the judges loved dessert and Melina and Angela were eliminated. It is unclear whether Ashlee and Sophia hugged them good bye. They probably did as the Italian mums said all the sniping was done behind their back not to their face. But if Sophia and Ashlee were snarking behind their backs how did they find out about it? Were the producers telling them to create conflict?
