My Kitchen Rules – Jenna Crys And Curses

The My Kitchen Rules producers were a tad naughty to try and increase the tension between Ashlee and Sophia and Joanna and Jenna by making them cook side by side tonight.

Everyone knows reality TV is manipulated  but the problem is in this series you can see the puppet pulling the strings in most of the episodes.

Five teams were battling to stay out of the elimination episode. The first challenge was to cook something with “death and layers” said Manu. Was this a kill your own beast episode? Oh he meant “depth and layers”. They had to cook a warming winter meal in thirty minutes.

Just as they got their ingredients the teams were told to stop and that it was going to be a team challenge

Of course there was a twist to make it even less likely that an edible meal will be produced.

After they had collected the ingredients they told to stop the clocks and that the teams were  to be split in two.

Ashlee and Sophia were hoping they were not going to have to  cook with Joanna and Jenna saying “We don’t work well with children”. They may go too far at times but by God they come out with some great one liners with perfect comedic timing.  Their comment on Jenna always crying was true too. She sobbed three times this episode.

Joanna and Jenna were in trouble as they were trying to make risotto in 30 minutes. Joanna immediately took charge and told Jenna to start chopping.

Chris and Sam again showed they were not a force in this competition making Salmon with an Asian Broth but putting in cornflour to thicken it. As you can guess their dish was judged a miss.

Dan and Stef cooked Spicy Prawn Wonton Soup and at one stage they were adding in  a lot of sugar. However this sweetness even passed the Pete Evans test who thought the balance of flavours was perfect.

Ashlee were making Cauliflower Soup and they added in mustard instead have chilli to make it non-asian. They said it was the first non-asian dish they had made in the competition. I thought in the zoo challenge they made meatball subs. The judges liked the addition of the mustard.

The Bondi Boys made a Seafood Broth. I wish the editing suite would refrain from adding the lecture about what nutrients were in the food they were using. We get it, and if this is what the show SEVEN has signed Luke up for it will get irritating fast. He might be a nice guy, well they are getting a good edit, but not seeing much charisma from either Luke or Scott.

Smiley Sam and Dan have more camera presence as does Ashlee in my opinion.

Manu likes salt so even though Joanna thought the rissotto was over salted he thought it was fine.

Dan and Stef were declared safe and the other four teams had to duke it out in chocolate challenge.

Luke and Scott were freaking and decided to go the full enchilada making a Chocolate Chilli Mousse. Probably adding the chilli because it increases metabolism and boosts the immune system.

Joanne and Jenna were concerned that they did not work much with chocolate. What happened to Jenna’s dessert queen mantle?Doesn’t she work in a patisserie? They decided to make a Chocolate Eton Mess which meant making chocolate creme pastissier and sprinkling cocoa over it.

Ashlee and Sophia were making a Brownie and Salted Caramel layered cake with a chocolate truffle. They were having a disaster, as it took them awhile to work out why the brownie was not cooking as Ashlee forgot to put the flour in it. It had to be redone and Sophia was not happy and told her she was angry.

She was not the only one after Ashlee and Sophia told Jenna to stop opening their shared freezer, Jenna responded with a “F**k off”. Ashlee later said to camera “that was not very princess like”.

The problem for Ashlee and Sophia was they were just happy to have plated a dessert but the others had all cooked well.  Chris and Sam were told their dessert was “quite perfect”. As was the Bondi Boys.

Jenna and Joanna were told theirs was great but did it fit the chocolate brief. However the standard rule in cooking shows if you break or stretch the rules if you cook a good dish it should get you through and it did. Ashlee and Sophia were put in the elimination challenge tonight against Andi and Josh. SEVEN have guaranteed that this episode will be high rating as people will be tuning it to see if the NSW team will be eliminated.

So it was confirmed that Andi and Josh were going to leave the show after the sudden death cook off as Andi has been quite unwell for a while. Thus the judges knew about this and need to bump up the scores for the girls.

This is why we didn’t see them in the challenge for eliminated contestants.

“What people don’t realise is it’s 12 to 15-hour days almost seven days a week,” he said.
“That’s pretty full on for your body. To put her (Andi) under that stress just wasn’t worth it.”
But they still wanted to go out on a high note, which is why they chose to cook in Kitchen HQ one last time.

The mains from A&S were so basic but the judges said they can be good if everything is cooked to perfection. But the sauce was not and Manu being a French tried to defend the sauce. What a joke. As usual Pete did the same.

Layla-We can see that A&S can do no wrong in the judges eyes (Pete and Manu). Same with the Bondi Boys. Can do no wrong

God I hate modern technology but I now have figured it out. Lol

I am extremely glad that racism did not prevail in the MKR kitchen last night, much to your guy’s chagrin.

Shame on the rest of the contestants for not congratulating A&S on their win. If that did not scream “racism,” then what does? The pack mentality among the white teams on this show is absolutely appalling. I hope they all lose.

Josh and Andi having baby? Well, let us hope that the baby does not inherit Josh’s face, which looks like it was thrown into a blender and viciously pulverised.

Shame on u golo totally fed up with your racist bs. Pls for all our sakes pull your head in. I’m jewish and if it’s one thing I know it’s REAL racism. Wake up and smell the coffee A&S are lousy cooks and horrible people. Have been watching junior masterchef and those kids are better cooks than A&S

I’m going to guess the solitary clap when A&S won was the product of an edit. The other guys may or may not like them, but I can’t see the other teams not clapping to congratulate on their victory

As I watch this show solely for entertainment rather than either culinary or life lessons, I reckon A&S (along with Manu’s mangled anglish) are easily the best thing about the show. Sure they’re obnoxious, but at least many of the bitchy things they say are funny. The fact that they remind me of the memorable Japanese twins from Goldmember, Fook Mi and Fook Yu, also helps to tickle me funny-bone whenever they are on screen. Here’s hoping they win… and keep destroying Colin Fassnidge’s* palette.

* Not only is Colin looking more and more like Neil from The Young Ones, but he was acting as glum as Neil last night.

For you young ones –

Colin cheers up (ever so slightly) when he finds out MKR production have replaced the chili sambal challenge with a Cornish pastie challenge:

Loved this write up of last night in particular this line:

“Suddenly, disaster strikes as Sophia’s fish begins to curl up in the pan! Turns out even slabs of dead fish can only tolerate Sophia’s personality for so long.”

Cb have recently introduced my 20+ year old sons to the joy of the Young Ones and Red Dwarf they both agree with you about Colin and Neil. Especially as Neil was always the cook.

12 Culinary Boner { 04.04.13 at 10:09 am }

Very true Techhater, Neil was one who did the cooking which was always lentil surprise if I recall correctly. To be fair Colin would probably do black pudding surprise instead.

Before I get slammed for misspelling, I must’ve been channeling the idea that Colin is some form of artist when I referred to his palette. (Should have written palate).

Good to see you corrupting your kids with some quality old Brit comedy Techhater. The first three or so seasons of Red Dwarf were great, but I can’t abide the later series.

13 Techhater { 04.04.13 at 10:19 am }

Quite agree about red dwarf and from memory quite often lentil suprise was NO lentils

Again, surprised that there is no responce to Sophia’s derrogatory jibe when Ashlee was chopping fast, “You look like an impoort. Does that mean that Sophia disassociates herself from new arrivals and considers them all kitchen hands. Doesn’t that bother you Golo. Or are some people allowed to be racist.
BTW Golo, I absolutley don’t mind your arguments. But make them logical if you can, fair and based on fact.

CB, Agree on the Neil. Both look like they need a wash, and a haircut, or at least a hairbrush. But I’m liking Neil for his 5 😉

I too read that Andi and Josh were planning on leaving regardless so whether the producers were informed before this elimination challenge or not, we don’t know. If they did know, then obviously Ashlee and Sophia’s win was supposed to happen but I still believe they were going to keep A&S in the competition for longer anyway despite Andi’s request to leave.

Yeah littlepetal@101 Pete’s love for Bondi Boys is just as obvious, but it doesn’t annoy me as much because at least they’re not rude and smug people unlike Ashlee and Sophia. Manu isn’t as favourable towards them but he’ll go along with what Pete says regardless. It’s inevitable they’ll all face an elimination cook off at some point so we’ll see what biased comments they throw their way when the time comes.

Golo u Idiot – no wonder you like A&S so much, you have a lot in common. Like them, every time you open your mouth crap comes out.

CB Colin is very much the young ones!

Daisy, thanks for the heads up on the steam mop, I have been so tempted to buy one but have managed not to give into the temptation
Sooooo scripted it’s not funny – Pete told the other judges about curry juices being tipped out, the food is supposed to be judged on the taste not the preparation. Manu’s defending of A&S was wrong re the chilli. Most of A&S meals have looked really basic to me and their sauces are made with the same ingrediants – boring. Most of the time their food has not looked very appetising.

You’re welcome, picnic. It’s kind of handy to pass on the word here, isn’t it.
