Survivor Caramoan: Brandon Hantz Was Not At Ponderosa With Other Eliminated Contestants

The most recent contestant eliminated from Survivor Caramoan, Julia Landauer, today revealed to Reality Ravings that Brandon Hantz was not at Ponderosa with the other eliminated contestants. Fans watching Survivor Caramoan: Fans V Favourites will remember Brandon Hantz’s unbalanced behaviour and subsequent meltdown at camp  which resulted in an impromptu tribal council where he was voted off.

These relevations occurred after she was asked how she felt about meeting Brandon after seeing his flipout and she said ” I was actually prepared for it, [pauses] and he actually was not there.”

It is usual for all eliminated contestants to go to Ponderosa. The players that don’t make the jury are then taken off together to stay elsewhere this is to limit spoilers from the jury. Obviously if a player is injured and needs medical attention they won’t be there.

It would be unusual for this policy to change as they like to keep the players sequestered from the outside world with no contact so spoilers on who has been eliminated do not occur.

However what adds to the mystery is that Brandon reckons he was there.

Brandon in his interview with Reality Ravings  on whether he went there said “I went straight to Ponderosa, nothing special happened. People think the doctors surrounded me and saying are you OK. No I just got angry, when you get angry you calm down and you go home.”

However Jeff Probst in an interview with EW said:

The key is as you said — all contestants have access to psychological counseling after the show.  That starts the moment they are voted out. Our psychologist is the first person they see after leaving tribal council. Brandon is no different. Our psychologist is there for any contestant who needs care whenever they need it. If necessary we find a psychologist or therapist for a contestant in their home town. I can’t speak about Brandon specifically due to confidentiality, but we are in constant communication with him and will be for as long as he needs it.

He also told Reality Wanted in an interview that he had had a lot of fun on Ponderosa. However by the time Julia got there which would have been no more than four to five days later he was not there. It is unclear whether he was there and left before Julia arrived,  but as she is not part of the jury normal policy would be they would still be kept together.

However was he treated like everyone else after his elimination? It is unclear whether he was there and left or if he returned to join the other contestants at a later date.

Survivor has faced some criticism for bringing back Brandon as a return player even before his meltdown as in his first season he appeared emotionally vulnerable, irrational and erratic. They have insisted he passed psychological evaluations all contestants are put through.

If he had to be treated or the producers decided he needed some time away from fellow contestants or it would be better for him to be back with his family,  it might indicate that he should not have been cast on the show that second time because of his state of mind.

The full interview with Julia will be up shortly.

Survivor Caramoan on GO Channel fast tracked from the USA is on Thursday nights at 7.30pm.

You astound me Raver. I thought Ponderosa was a southern rock band – http://www.newwestrecords.com/ponderosa

Interesting to know what happened. Are there any clips of Ponderosa? They had them for the last season but I haven’t been able to find any for this one.

Carole, clips from Ponderosa usually only include the jury. We don’t usually get to see where pre-jury Survivors get taken too :(

Only the jury get ponderosa clips. Crazy Kathy from Micronesia (the original FvF season) was sent home after her quit/evacuation. She talks about it in her survivor oz interview.

Hey RR. It sounds like Brandon did go straight to Ponderosa after this meltdown but it appears he neglected to say that he most likely elected to go home before all the pre-jury boots are shipped off on an all-expenses trip for the remaining 20+ days. Producers would have had it planned when the jury would start and I assume letting Brandon go home (or go on a solo vacation – which would be unlikely) a few days before Julia came to Ponderosa would have been deemed necessary for his mental health.

But hey, what would I know? Quasi-Cochran can always get a few things wrong! :) Still you have to wonder how tough that psychological evaluation is given that the producers should have tightened the screening process after Crazy Kathy from the original Fans vs Favourites apparently threatened to injure herself with the machete if she wasn’t allowed to quit 11 seasons ago. Brandon had so many meltdowns the first time he played yet he was deemed “adjusted” enough to play for the second time? I don’t think the producers could risk Brandon injuring one of the pre-jury boots so they probably allowed him to go on his separate ways. Given that the pre-jury boots were stacked up with hot, young and single females, being cooped up with those “tempting trollops” at Losers Lodge would have sent Brandon over the edge!

‘Tempting trollops at loser’s lodge’. Ha ha, JStar, love it!!!!!!

Thanks Erin & Fiona, so we should get them from tomorrow’s show then. Wonder who the first member of the jury will be.

@ Carole Thats if the jury starts from the first boot after the merge. On Survivorsucks in the spoiler section there has been alot of speculation on when the jury will start given the spoilers that are available there and so far most have been accurate.

JStar – The difference is Kath was open about it, whereas Brandon has not been nor have the producers about what went down afterwards. I don’t think anyone would have thought it was wrong if he elected to go home to family. He has admitted he was missing them badly.BTW yesterday I read just about every Hantz interview and the EW podcast to see if I could shed more light on the issue but could not come up with anything.

The real drama is on Survivor…

People that watch MKR Had Ashlee and Sophia’s fizzer of a fight that was highly advertised and 2 Million people anxiousley waited weeks to see come on our screens for all of 15 seconds.

Brandons Meltdown was reality and tv gold, i have friends that refuse to watch Survivor that LOVE My Kitchen Rules that clearly has no idea what they are missing out on.
I know it takes all different types of people and opinions but i just think its a shame Survivor doesn’t rate as high as some other shows that i would consider far inferior

Yeah, I was disappointed Corrinne wasn’t made part of the Jury. Reading all the different articles on the show, no one seems to know when the jury will start & everyone is disappointed Corrine isn’t on it.

She must be cursing her mistake of telling Dawn her plan! It was silly to do so, when she really didn’t need to until the next vote….doh! Hope Malcolm can survive this. Am just disappointed he isn’t in an alliance with Cochran as I’d love one of them to win!
