My Kitchen Rules – Sophia And Ashlee Gone – But Are They?
Other teams appeared to have been relived that Sophia and Ashlee were eliminated last night but not because they are nasty but because they were seen by them to be the favourites to win the competition.
However like any good dramality show, and really that is what MKR has been this year, we know that this may not be the end of the road for the girls. What a better plot line then the other teams thinking the villains are “dead” but to see them remerge again in finals week?
In one way I hope I am right, as Dad & Dave duo Matt and Mick, and the Italian girls have not delivered in the cooking stakes as much as these girls have. Nor with the one liners.
Sophia and Ashlee after winning the food truck challenge had picked to cook off against Sam and Chris and Dan and Steph for a spot in the finals. They also had the advantage of picking who would cook with what ingredient. There was the choice of kidney, walnuts, and apple.
Like Sophia’s idol Charlie “It’s all about winning” Sheen, the girls made a bad life choice and chose to cook kidneys themselves. Why they did not give “vanilla” team Chris and Sam this ingredient which they would have had no idea what to do with was a bad strategic error. What is the use of having power if you don’t know how to weild it? They gave them walnuts and Dan and Steph apples. Basically they let both teams off the hook.
They made Kidney’s with Red Wine sauce and they over cooked the kidneys by 10 to 15 seconds. The boys made a Sticky Date Pudding with a butterscotch sauce which was cooked well but not a huge stretch of cooking skills. Dan and Steph made veal shanks with Apple and they were the first team to be made safe.
The second challenge for Sam and Chris and the NSW girls was to make a dish that was them on a plate. Sophia and Ashlee made Pork Belly with Caramel Sauce with Steamed Buns and Chris and Sam still cooking from the 1980 Women’s Weekly Cookbook made Salmon with Celeriac Purree and Dill Beurre Blanc Sauce. Was it them on a plate or was it just what they were capable of cooking?
The girls were having an issue with their steamed buns, Ashlee did not realise the water from wok had evaporated and they served up dough underdone buns. Again a poor decision when they should have dished it up with the rice they had cooked as well.
The judges were wheeled out for a blind tasting. Liz thought flavours of pork exceptional, however Colin thought the sauce was too sweet. Also Pete said pork was remarkable. However the buns were a dud.
Guy Grossi like the Salmon as did Karen, however Colin thought it was too rich.
The boys scored 44 getting eights from Pete, Manu and Guy. Colin liked the girls dish better saying it was the one he would remember in the morning and gave them a seven, however it was Manu who gave the casting vote scoring them one less then the Victorian boys and with that they were eliminated. They were thanked the judges saying they had learnt so much and Ashlee was in tears but love or hate them these girls certainly made series four of My Kitchen Rules memorable.
