Survivor Caramoan – Interview With Michael Snow
Michael Snow one of the fans on this season of Survivor went from being in a strong alliance to being on the outer when the tribe switch occurred. It was a testament to his skills that he managed to cling on for a few more weeks, but in the end he was voted out in a confusing tribal council when it appeared one of the alpha males was to go.
In this interview we talk about strategy, Phillip and Shamar and which former players he liked.
Reality Ravings (RR): The tribal council where you were eliminated was quite confusing did you know you were eliminated?
Michael Snow: No I didn’t know they were going to vote for me that night. I was very surprised my name started coming up but within moments of having my torch snubbed I was not surprised. I had hoped Andrea was going to go home and there was a slim chance of that. What I thought was going to happen was Eddie or Reynold was going to go home I thought they were going to split the vote for them. When my name started popping up I was quite irritated and a little bit in shock.
RR: I like a guy who goes out with a bit of a statement. You flipped the bird – Why was that?
MS: That’s just me, I was not really pissed off or anything like that I was just like to mix it up. I live in New York City and we give it back to people immediately. I am a little bit of a foul mouth and I just like to give it back to people. It was not aimed at anyone. That was how I treated people out there, if they were going to give me a hard time they were going to get a hard time back, but it was always in the spirit of “You guys, you jerks”.
RR: In your original tribe you had an alliance with Sherri when the merge came did you think about working with her again?
MS: Oh of course and we immediately tried to connect. I think what happened was I had worked so hard for a week to get in with Corrinne, Dawn, Cochrane and even Phillip a little bit which meant I got in trouble with Sherri and I was not totally forthright about that. I just should have said to her I am working with these guys come with me, come with me and I did not do that as I did not know where she was coming from or what she had been doing for the past week.
RR: Were you ever part of the Stealth R Us alliance? Did Phillip ever annoint you out there?
MS: No he did not. It was really my big regret of the game is not being able to get into his alliance. [laughs]
RR: So no special name?
MS: No maybe I got one later on but I did not get one while we were in the game.
RR: When you went on Survivor did you have any strategy before you hit the island?
MS: I am a big fan of the game so I put a lot of thought into how I was going to play and one of the things I kept on trying to keep in mind was I had one tool out there and that is yourself, just be yourself. That was someone who would be able to be helpful in the challenges but not a threat, someone that would work hard around camp and someone that would get on with everybody and make them laugh and make them relax and be a good listener. At the same time I never wanted to be a threat in any of those ways. Socially in my alliances I wanted to just have a strong alliance and making decisions but not putting it out there but letting other people be the target in that way. I think it worked until I should not have been playing that way anymore.
RR: So why did you go on Survivor? Was it the first time you had applied?
MS: I had applied a few times before. I wanted to go on because I put in my mind that this was something I could do. I saw myself doing it. I do a lot of challenges I run marathons and stuff like that and I like to challenge myself. I saw this as a big challenge and I got in my head that this was something that was going to happen for me and doing and it actually happened. It was great and amazing.
RR: How is Sherri placed in her new alliance. Sherri played really hard in your original alliance on the fans tribe, she was dominating there. Then she went quiet once her tribe disintergrated, and now she is starting to make a few moves. Do you think she is well placed to stick around or do you think her position is as fragile as yours considering she is a fan?
MS: She’s getting in there, she is trying to get into that alliance. She is with the vote. She was meant to go home that night Corrine went home but she was pulled in and she was voting with them and now she is voting with them again by voting for me. She is in a good spot she is doing what she needs to do.
RR: Who was more irritating Shamar or Phillip? Who was harder to live with in camp?
MS: I would say for me personally I think it was more difficult to live with Phillip as he was trying to mess with me. He was trying to test and manipulate me. But living with Shamar was harder for everyone around, so in general I would have to say Shamar as it just drove everyone else crazy.
RR: Would you go on a reality TV show again and if so which one?
MS: I don’t watch a lot of reality TV, I would do The Amazing Race. That is not one I was dying to play but if someone wanted me to put me on it with someone fun I would do it. Survivor is really the only reality show I watch.
RR: You’ve watched all the seasons? Who’s your favourite player of all time?
MS: There is a few. There is a guy Rob Cestorino he did not win but he was a great player and he was fun to watch. I always enjoyed watching Cherie and I liked Sandra.
