Celebrity Splash – A Contestant Has Pulled Out

Celebrity Splash has not even started and a contestant has withdrawn from the show. It appears an injury is the likely cause of the withdrawel as the Herald Sun says they were forced to pull out of the show.

The show both here and internationally has seen quite a few injuries to the cast as it is a difficult sport and hitting the water is like hitting concrete.  Of course they are making us tune in to find out who is gone. It could be Josh Thomas as he was injured last week, as was Laura Csortan. Hopefully it is not Denise Drysdale who is rumoured to be getting paid $10,000 per episode. That should bumper up her superannuation nicely.

Derek Boyer is coming in to replace them. Yes I know who is that? Clearly they were having trouble finding someone who could fill in with limited rehearsal time. Derek is a former powerlifter as well as being a Gladiator so he should not baulk at the top of the ten metre tower.

Here is a picture if that helps.

With both Celebrity Splash and Celebrity Apprentice starting in the same week there Colin Vickery from the Herald Sun questioned which of the cast of these shows were celebrities. I was quoted in the article.

Also Greg Louganis who is a judge on the show told SMH that Australia should make same sex marriage legal, as does The Voice coach Ricky Martin. Can reality TV assist in bringing a change in the law? One of the good things about reality TV is that it does not matter if you are gay, well except perhaps if you are on a dating show. Also it is great the stigma around HIV is now over with Greg being positive. There have been few out HIV people on reality TV, one person was Jack Mackenroth on Project Runway.

Also it appears Celebrity Splash will only be running for three weeks if what I heard on the promo tonight is true.

At the moment it is scheduled for two episodes a week.

Celebrity Splash starts Monday 29 April on Seven at 7.30pm it continues Tuesday at the same time.

This should interesting. If ever a show was a shoe-in for injuries this will be it. Who remembers that iceskating with celebrities? There was at least one broken bone there.

And Derek Boyer states that he is terrified of heights:

“I’m absolutely petrified of heights,” said Boyer. “Because of my body weight I can’t jump off the spring boards and I’ve got no flexibility. In fact I’m not that good looking either so my only possibility to get through to the next round is to immediately ascend up to the 10 metre platform and jump off that.

I’m really crapping myself – my fear of heights is something I have to control and harness.”

I won’t be watching this one.

Ruby I don’t think there should be as many injuries as the Ice Skating one but I could be wrong. For those who don’t remember it:

Prolly still won’t watch this one though. 😛

The many expressions of Derek Boyer, all point to one thing…

…herniated testicle or chronic constipation?

I am looking forward to hearing your take on this show tonight guys. Will it be so bad that we can’t miss it, or just really pointless?

I tuned in for the first five minutes, just to see if it was as bad as I suspected it would be.

Spoiler alert!

It was. I immediately switched the TV off, and went and caught up on my reading/emails/gaming/buying things on eBay.

It’ll be gone within three episodes, and shunted over to 7mate. I can see it happening.

Seven’s first big bellyflop here we come!
Next week can we see Tim Worner off the 10 metre platform?
I’d almost forgotten this lot inflict that glacial-paced mediocrity, Dancing with the Stars, on us.

Oh come on guys, it isn’t too bad for a light family entertainment show. Seems fun enough and only going for 4 episodes

Who signed off on this garbage? On what planet did this seem like a good idea?

Dancing with the stars, celebrity splash; celebrity bikini wax.

I actually really enjoyed the show. It was so ridiculous that it was funny. At least everyone looked like they were having fun.

Although who is that Derek guy and why was he dressed like Fred Flintstone?

Celebrity Splash was fun, brainless, car crash TV. It was like a disco ball on steroids! Loved seeing the absolutely adorable Greg Louganis on my tv & Alisa Camplin was just charming as a judge. Matthew Mitcham showed why he’s such a star & role model – so likeable. The diving was crap, but the contestants were brave to take it on.

This show really is the definition of harmless fun. Pretty sure it will rate it’s socks off, too. Will be interested to see if it can maintain the audience.

If you’re on Twitter follow the #CelebritySplash rather than the official #CelebSplash. The former # is just hysterical – I was crying laughing at some of the tweets. Wish Ch 7 would run some of those!

It sounds better than the appalling episode of The Voice I watched.

Mitcham lost me about the time he admitted to his prior meth use some years back. Role model? Hell no. And spare me, “Well I doubt you’ve never taken any illicit substances!” because no, I actually haven’t. They’re stupid, dangerous and illegal and thusly I avoid them. “But he’s gay and he’s had a tough life!” and so am I. And yet, still no drug habits (and using that as an excuse bothers me more than anything else).

I am glad some of you are enjoying the show. I like it too. Also it is only 6 episodes, I think. Just great to see them having a go and give their best performance. You can’t expect the dive to be perfect but with only 6 weeks of training and fear of height for some, I think they did pretty well.

18 daisy { 04.30.13 at 12:07 am }

Did they have to high dive?
Littlepetal &Stacey, if you say you enjoyed it, I’ll join you init when I get back.
Who here can dive?

19 Littlepetal { 04.30.13 at 12:12 am }

Don’t talk about diving, Ms Daisy. I can’t even swim properly!!! I almost drown when I was about 10. Since then I have a phobia for water.

Tamsyn Lewis and Andrew Symonds did the 10m dive.

I love, love, love swimming, but can’t high dive.
I love the water.

“celebrity bikini wax”

This I would watch.
Minge it on!

“who is that Derek guy and why was he dressed like Fred Flintstone?”

He’s a Fijian-Australian powerlifter and like all Aussie TV station production crews will tell you, them Fijians wear the pelts of prehistoric mammals they have brought down with their own spears. Oh. Hang on. That’s ‘The Croods’, isn’t it? Must talk to costume about racial stereotyping. Derek to wear his nappy next dive – http://www.aussiepower.biz/images/Derek%20Boyer%20-%20Sumo%20Picture.jpg

Thanks CB. I realised my error when I skimmed the article above. I just came straight to comment. I loved the outfit. He had the funniest dive too.

Impressed with Brynne. She was great! She should be very proud of herself and she is looking very fit. Her legs looked really long!
